Norman Buckley is a prolific director whose work spans various networks, genres, and styles. Most recently, he executive produced and edited the short film STORAGE FEES. He is currently the co-executive producer/producing director on the Netflix show SWEET MAGNOLIAS. His previous credits include NCIS: HAWAII, PRETTY LITTLE LIARS, CHARMED, IN THE DARK, ZOO, QUANTICO, RIZZOLI AND ISLES, CHUCK, GOSSIP GIRL, AND THE OC. He was co-executive producer/producing director on PRETTY LITTLE LIARS: THE PERFECTIONISTS.After editing the pilot episode of THE OC in 2003, he began his directing career by helming six episodes of that series. He has gone on to direct over 140 episodes of television since then. His television movie THE PREGNANCY PROJECT won Best Primetime Program (Special or Movie of the Week) and Best Actress (Alexa Vega) at the 2012 Imagen Awards. His episode of THE OC “The Metamorphosis” was chosen by Entertainment Weekly magazine as one of the five best episodes of the series. His episode of GOSSIP GIRL “The Handmaiden's Tale” was chosen by Newsweek Magazine as one of the top ten television episodes of 2007.Buckley began working in the industry as an assistant editor on the Oscar-nominated films TENDER MERCIES, SILKWOOD, and PLACES IN THE HEART. He continued editing for a number of years on many films, television series, and TV movies. He worked with many outstanding directors, including Bruce Beresford, Robert Benton, Mike Nichols, Rob Reiner, Michael Lindsay-Hogg, Richard Donner, J.S. Cardone, McG, Doug Liman, and Robert M. Young. He also learned the editing craft from some of the best film editors in the business, including Carol Littleton, Sam O'Steen, William Anderson, and Bob Leighton.He worked as an editor on many independent films at the Sundance, Toronto, and Telluride film festivals, including HAPPY, TEXAS, which he also associate-produced. Beginning in 2000, Buckley edited several television pilots, all of which were picked up to series, which led to his regular work in television.He has been nominated twice for an American Cinema Editors award: in 2003 for JOE AND MAX, for best-edited motion picture for non-commercial television, and he won the award in 2008 for the pilot of CHUCK, for best-edited one-hour series for commercial television.Buckley grew up in Fort Worth, Texas and studied history at the University of Texas at Arlington, before moving to Los Angeles where he would later graduate from the University of Southern California with a degree in Cinema/Television.He was an adjunct professor at the University of California Los Angeles film school, teaching both graduates and undergraduates.Norman Buckley was married to the late artist Davyd Whaley and he established The Davyd Whaley Foundation (davydwhaleyfoundation.org) to carry on Davyd's legacy by supporting emerging artists with annual grants. Most recently the Foundation has funded scholarships at the Art Students League in New York and the film school at UCLA, as well as providing funding for Art Division, Art of Elysium, and the Brentwood Art Center in Los Angeles.

It's just released a bunch of shocking statistics in its annual report – including the fact that in 2023, an average of two of the UK's live music venues were shutting their doors every WEEK.Amongst the venues that Music Venue Trust represents are what it calls Grassroots Music Venues, or GMVs. It surveyed 835 of these GMVs for its 2023 annual report.These venues have an average capacity of 309 people, though that can range to a capacity over 650 people.  As mentioned, the Music Venue Trust's latest report shows that two GMVs are shutting down per week in the UK. But perhaps the most shocking data point in the new report is that 38.5% of GMVs reported an annual financial loss in 2023. To repeat that: Over a third of ‘club'-sized music venues in the UK are currently operating at a loss.On this podcast, Tim Ingham is joined by Mark Davyd, founder and CEO of the Music Venue Trust. In this After Corona episode, we're returning to look at the music industry, which has had an incredibly tumultuous year, and building on our past conversations with Norman Cook, Amy Lamé and Fiona Bevan who all referred to the work of the man you are about to hear. Mark Davyd is the founder and CEO of Music Venue Trust, the charity that represents hundreds of small and medium-sized venues in the UK. He is the co-owner of Tunbridge Wells Forum, a venue he founded in a toilet over 20 years ago and was the former CEO of Rhythmix, for two decades the multi-award winning music and mental health organisation that worked with young people in challenging circumstances. Mark's past commercial music career has also seen him work as an artist manager, label owner and promoter. There is very little about the music industry that is not understood by my guest this episode. Mark, and the Music Venues Trust, have been hailed as heroes by many in the UK for running some very hard-hitting campaigns that put small and medium pubs and gig venues at the forefront of cultural recovery funding. Veteran radio DJ Steve Lamacq is just one of the voices calling for Mark Davyd and his team to receive an official honour - because since March 2020, an estimated £1.2million has been raised, preventing 556 music venues from having to close. Indoor theaters and music venues opened back up in England on August 15th with social distance rules in place. Founder of Music Venues Trust, Mark Davyd, talks about what these reopenings will look like.  “Venues are operating at roughly 30% capacity. Everybody has to be seated. Drinks are only brought to the table. There are massive additional costs in meeting the health and safety demands of managing the virus. And frankly the kind of music you can program is also very limited. We’re not going to see any hardcore punk gigs. It’s going to be a lot of folk and jazz and singer/songwriters with acoustic guitars,” Davyd says.   Davyd adds that operating at 30% capacity will not be a financial benefit to music venues. In the US, the National Park Service is leading a project to bring a little hush back to the wild. Cathy FitzGerald hears more on a hike with soundscape specialist, Davyd Betchkal, in Denali National Park, Alaska – a 6,000,000 acre wilderness bisected by a single road. Davyd is part of the Natural Sounds Division, a special team within the National Park Service, tasked with preserving the soundscapes of natural habitats.

Emma Farrell is the graphic designer, marketing and operations manager for Archetype Events. She has over fifteen years experience in events and marketing in both the UK and the Middle East, having worked for many well known brands including Ministry Of Sound, Hamleys Toy Store, Oscar de La Renta and David Morris. Emma has had an interest in the development of the mind since a young age and has practiced meditation for many years. This interest has led her to studying 'Master's In The Preservation Of Wisdom Culture & The Art Of Liberation' (Tibetan Buddhism) in Italy, a course organised between the Lama Tsong Khapa Institute and Scuola Sant'Anna Superiore University in Pisa.
