This one was recorded in bits as we drove ourselves separately to Beaumont and Brenham, intercut with clips from a performance of "Suspicious Minds" filmed with Turbo's 360 camera. Patrick first shares a conspiracy theory about the donut incident from last week's episode (https://youtu.be/KChkUuC4vKw?si=cic7RrrNlVemIjBF&t=163) We then catch Chad having "a moment" while driving home from Beaumont, trying to articulate what an amazing reception we got from the audience at Logon Cafe that night. Then we see Turbo's killer drum solo in the middle of "Suspicious Minds" from our show at HSF Biergarten in Brenham, followed by an adlib from Patrick that apparently some people there thought was rehearsed. When Jesus commanded us to "turn the other cheek", He was not asking us to just senselessly take a beating, to be walked on by anyone and everyone. He was calling us to a greater strength, to a peaceful defiance of retaliation and a composure of meekness and grace. So what does "turn the other cheek" mean? Watch and learn. :)
Oh! What a beautiful doormat! I can see it from here! It looks like it has some really beautiful colors, really warm and inviting. *peering closer* Let me get a little closer look here... hmmm.. oh, yeah.. it's actually pretty worn. Up close, I can see that it's been used quite a bit, but still holding out its warm welcome. I can see there's some dirt left in some of the grooves.. it's still very pretty, but it's definitely been walked on a lot. It just so happens, I have some cleaner right here in my backpack! Wasn't that lucky!

Didn't Jesus tell us to "turn the other cheek?" Yes, he did. But in his own life and ministry even a casual reading of the gospels reveals a person who is feisty, who regularly defended himself from verbal attacks, who seemed to prefer to turn other people's cheeks rather than his own, who was verbally assertive and even aggressive with people who opposed him, and who on one occasion used physical violence against those who were hurting other people. How do we sort all of this out? I offer one way.

The Good News: Luke 6:27-38 Jesus said, “Here: I say to you that listen, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. If anyone strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also; and from anyone who takes away your coat do not withhold even your shirt. Give to everyone who begs from you; and if anyone takes away your goods, do not ask for them again. Do to others as you would have them do to you. “If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. If you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. If you lend to those from whom you hope to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to receive as much again. But love your enemies, do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return. Your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High; for he is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. “Do not judge, and you will not be judged; do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven; give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap; for the measure you give will be the measure you get back.”
Dorothy is a lifelong habitual people-pleaser, which has turned out to be a problem more often than you might. While being nice and accommodating to friends and colleagues is one thing, it doesn’t help anyone if your boundaries are so minimal that you end up selflessly bending over backwards for people who prefer to walk all over you. Boundaries reflect our own values, and setting them respectfully can completely transform our lives and boost our self-esteem. In this minisode, Dorothy discusses how to set boundaries in a kind and non-judgmental manner and how she’s consequently been able to restructure her personal and professional interactions for the better. Show Notes: How boundary-setting was a game-changer for Dorothy in 2018. Why it’s important to set conversation limits with overly negative friends. The Supreme Court dismissed a plea seeking a probe into the Sahara and Birla diary entries, and Madhu Trehan has the mother of all conspiracy theories about them. Why didn't the apex court find these diaries worth investigating? Speaking of investigations, Tej Bahadur Yadav, a Border Security Force’s (BSF) jawan put up a video showing how badly jawans are treated, and it's led to an enquiry into the matter. Similar videos have been popping up all week and we discuss why some news channels picked up Yadav's story while others didn't. Anand Ranganathan has some strong thoughts on Sushma Swaraj’s threat to Amazon as well as the demand that the ban on Jallikattu be lifted. Donald Trump’s first press conference took place this week, which made Deepanjana Pal wonder about where the American media is headed and Abhinandan Sekhri has a song that Rahul Gandhi can dedicate to Mulayam Singh Yadav. We also have some important announcements about the paywall, so listen closely and enjoy!
