Send us a textThe New York Yankees' recent relaxation of half-century-old rules about facial hair got Joe to thinking about dress and codes generally. Why do they exist? Where do they come from? Mark takes Joe on a historical tour of dress codes, from ancient Rome and China through medieval Europe and Tudor England, ending in the modern era of school uniforms and casual Fridays. As our heroes discover, attire-related restrictions are less about affirming people than about keeping them in place, serving as effective instruments of social or class control—and sometimes symbols of resistance. If you've been to a Taiwanese wedding this century, it was likely a much toned-down version of what these boisterous events could once be like. John (who apologizes for having a cold) recounts watching a wedding and a funeral 20 meters apart held at the same "auspicious" hour. John and Eryk explore the development of Taiwan's seemingly Western but actually home-grown modern wedding culture. And they recall the days when it was considered normal that a wedding (or sometimes a religious ceremony) would feature performances from lightly-clothed women. Enjoy this walk down the aisle of memory lane. Pics, links and more at FORMOSAFILES.COM For books about Taiwan and East Asia, visit Plum Rain Press.

Tonight on Necronomicast, it is my pleasure to welcome back to the program documentary filmmaker Rob Caprilozzi to discuss his newest film “Dressing Up Halloween: The Story of Ben Cooper, Inc.” The company Ben Cooper, Inc. is one of the biggest game-changers in the history of the Halloween holiday, responsible for mass producing the very first licensed Halloween costumes that children in America ever had at their disposal. With the plastic masks and the vinyl smocks, Ben Cooper's costumes have truly become as iconic as the characters they transformed us into. The documentary shines the light on how Ben Cooper Inc. went from a vaudeville costume company to a powerhouse that dominated the Halloween costume market for decades. For over 60 years, Ben Cooper helped children everywhere evolve into Skeletor, Darth Vader, Superman and more, in celebration of one of the most beloved holidays of the year. "Dressing Up Halloween: The Story of Ben Cooper, Inc" is availale everywhere on your favorite VOD service. Official Trailer for "Dressing Up Halloween"

Join Erik and Tage this week as they are joined by Shannon and Ryan as they discuss times they overracted to a change in the parks, times they have had the oppertunity to dress up in the parks, what they think Disney should do to make Star Wars and Marvel like they were before, and Disney things they think are a bargain. Support the podcast by going to https://www.thehubcrawl.com/support. Question 1: When were you overreacting and afraid of change? Think of the prequel Star Wars trilogy. Think of the change to Splash Mountain. Think of anything else that changed in a park anywhere. Question 2: Have you ever been able to dress up while in the park? And what did you dress as? Think Disney bounding, Halloween, RunDisney. Question 3: What do you think Disney should do to make Marvel and Star Wars like it was before? Question 4: Everyone is always worried about how much Disney costs. Which, to be fair, isn't entirely unfair. However, I think there are some slept on “bang for buck” things. Whats something disney related that you think is a “bargin”? Could be an experience, a piece of merch, etc. Bonus Question: Reverse bucket list item: what is a Disney attraction, show, food, event, or park you have never experienced and don't want to?

Should you dress up in fancy clothes or a semi formal outfit at Walt Disney World? What should you wear to a Signature Dining restaurant at Disney World? Dressing up in upscale resort wear is definitely doable at Walt Disney World. Here's what you need to know. What does Fancy Style Look Like on a Disney vacation? While a Walt Disney World vacation is most often comprised of hot sunny weather and theme park days, there are occasions where you may want to dress up just a little bit for a night out, or dinner and drinks at a Signature Disney restaurant. In most cases, you don't need to bring formal wear or even a jacket and tie, unless you really want to. It is rare to see guests dressed up to that degree, unless they are part of a wedding party or heading to Victoria & Albert's for dinner.Still, it is nice to get a little more dressed up in the evenings, especially if you are heading out for dinner, drinks or to stroll through Disney Springs or see a show. For women, dressing up at Disney World could include a nice breezy dress, or skirt and blouse combination is a great way to get upscale style while still staying in the spirit of your Disney vacation. For men, casual pants or casual shorts (think business casual at work), along with a button-up shirt and casual shoes is the perfect way to go.Dressing up for Dinner at Walt Disney WorldFor Disney Signature Restaurants, there is no singular dress code that applies to all. Victoria & Albert's has the most stringent dress codes, while for the other Signature Dining Restaurants it really depends on the location.Disney World Signature Dining restaurants located inside Disney Parks (such as Le Cellier, Tiffins, Takumi-Tei and the Hollywood Brown Derby) tend to be a little more casual and less formal, since most guests are having a theme park day.For Disney World Signature Dining restaurants located inside Disney Resort Hotels or in Disney Springs the expectation is that guests will respect the restaurant's ambiance and aesthetic with a little bit more attention. No swimwear or ratty torn clothing, but rather neat and tidy resort wear at the very least. You will find the specific dress code for each Disney Signature Dining Restaurant on the restaurant's page at DisneyWorld.com. Disney Signature Dining Dress CodeThe Dress Code on the restaurant page is the same for virtually all Disney Signature Restaurants. It states:This restaurant is a Disney Signature Dining experience offering fine dining with a distinctly magical flair. Guests are expected to dress accordingly in attire that respects the restaurant's sophisticated and upscale aesthetic. Clothing should be clean, neat and in good condition. Please no swimwear.Victoria & Albert's Dress CodeThe Dress Code for Victoria & Albert's is unique as Walt Disney World. It states:Victoria & Albert's is an exquisite and intimate upscale dining experience and the culinary crown jewel of Walt Disney World Resort. Guests are expected to dress accordingly in semi-formal/formal attire that respects the restaurant's elegant and opulent aesthetic.Disney Bounding and Dapper DaysBeyond bringing nicer clothes to dress up at Walt Disney World, guests may also take part in Disney Bounding and the occasional Dapper Days.Disney Bounding is where you create an outfit that is inspired by a Disney character. It's not a character costume, but rather an outfit that takes elements of a character's style that you craft with your own clothes.Dapper Days are specific days (not Disney official) where guests dress to the nines in vintage style clothing and outfits. You'll definitely notice guests dressed up on Dapper Days at Disney, a true celebration of style.Thank You for Listening to the Disney Travel Style PodcastThank you very much for listening to this episode, we that you enjoyed it.
