Lee Brockney is currently the Manager of Financial Planning and Analysis Manager at IC System. After 19 years with the company, he wears many hats today. He's in charge of general project pricing, financial forecasting, cost analysis, budget, and other ad-hoc reporting. He's also an active Chairman of the Innovation Committee. He's poised to discuss the innovation within IC System and how they encourage employees to make small changes to optimize their processes. As a collection agency, they work in an incredibly competitive field. “When you combine the pricing pressure with the regulation, it's ripe for innovation. If you're not figuring out ways to do things cheaper, smarter, not harder, you're going to be in a tough spot,” said Brockney. In 2018 IC Systems launched the Innovation Committee. It's an effort to support employees to feel ownership over processes and company changes. “We're always pushing process improvement. How can I be better tomorrow with simple changes?” said Brockney. Five to ten members meet quarterly to review every idea submitted. Employees can add their suggestions to a portal. Each quarter the committee selects the idea that is beneficial to all. IC System announces the winner and presents them with a $500 gift card and IC Innovation branded swag. The four winners are invited to the Annual President's Club Award Ceremony, honoring peer-nominated outstanding employees. “The peer aspect gives credence to the recognition,” noted host Tyler Kern.In 2019 the innovations we're focused on ecological changes. The company installed water bottle refill stations, evaluated and upgraded current energy processes and lightbulbs, and invested in solar energy. There was a company-wide consensus to improve the company's relationship with the environment. In 2020, when employees began working remotely, the innovation team was inundated with new submissions. Employees were eager to find ways to connect and maintain the IC System Culture. “One idea that came out was ‘IC Clubs,'” explained Brockney. It connected people outside of work again. Today, there are still active members of clubs, including “a Movie Club, Book Club, Cooking Club, Golf Club,” said Brockney.Primarily, collectors make up about 60% of the IC System workforce. The innovations are little changes. “We're dealing with ideas around ways we can make our collections systems better, little tweaks and ideas to make their jobs better,” said Brockney. “Everything we do, we try to do it in a way that's best for those we interact with.”IC System has over 85 years of experience in medical and dental debt collection, rent recovery and other business collections. Set in Bombay during the Quit India movement, the book is about three children—Sakina, Zenobia and Mehul—who are eager to be a part of Indian freedom struggle. When Sakina realises that there's an underground radio network and her Bela aunty is a part of it and that she might be ousted to the British Government, she and her friends help the Underground People's Radio in their mission to evade the British police—while their mothers are just running a cooking club. Read it for a glimpse of 1942 Bombay and the role the underground radio (and Usha Mehta!) played in the freedom struggle. Join the author in a conversation with the host Ayushi Mona as they discuss multiple facets of the book and the author's journey.

Lee Brockney is currently the Manager of Financial Planning and Analysis Manager at IC Systems. After 19 years with the company, he wears many hats today. He's in charge of general project pricing, financial forecasting, cost analysis, budget, and other ad-hoc reporting. He's also an active Chairman of the Innovation Committee. He's poised to discuss the innovation within IC Systems and how they encourage employees to make small changes to optimize their processes. IC Systems announces the winner and presents them with a $500 gift card and IC Innovation branded swag. Employees were eager to find ways to connect and maintain the IC Systems Culture. “One idea that came out was ‘IC Clubs,'” explained Brockney. It connected people outside of work again. Today, there are still active members of clubs, including “a Movie Club, Book Club, Cooking Club, Golf Club,” said Brockney.Primarily, collectors make up about 60% of the IC Systems workforce. The innovations are little changes. “We're dealing with ideas around ways we can make our collections systems better, little tweaks and ideas to make their jobs better,” said Brockney. “Everything we do, we try to do it in a way that's best for those we interact with.”

Ewa Jozefkowicz's latest book is simply delicious. The Cooking Club Detectives covers some serious territory such as food poverty and adult depression, but it deals with the subjects lightly in a story full of hope, where children have agency and take positive action. And as you will gather from the title, there's a mystery to be solved too. I invited Ewa In The Reading Corner to help me sort out the ingredients in this culinary delight.About The Cooking Club DetectivesMeet Erin, her puppy Sausage and friends as they swap recipes and pots for clues and culprits and try to solve the mystery of why their cookery club is closing and save it for everyone. The fourth middle-grade book from author Ewa Jozefkowicz about family, friendship and self-discovery, touching on themes of food poverty and online bullying. Skipton House Community Centre may look ramshackle, but it is soon at the heart of Erin's life - especially the cooking club. When the building is suddenly threatened with closure, Erin and her new friends, Tanya, Frixos, and Sam, form The Cooking Club Detectives. Can they, and their four-legged assistant, Sausage, uncover who the mystery culprit is and save Skipton?A beautifully observed story about the power of food and the importance of community.

80s pop icon, Tiffany, is all grown up and still making music! She’s just no longer performing in shopping malls! The super talented singer is talking about her new acoustic album, her new Cooking Club, and explaining why “I Think We’re Alone Now” is still her favorite song! She’s also sharing stories about getting started when she was 15, graduating from live shows at malls to real venues, and eating bugs and other gross stuff on the reality TV show “I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here!” Plus, she recalls doing Hulk Hogan’s “Celebrity Championship Wrestling,” and makes a case for being invited to do “The Masked Singer!”
'80s pop star Tiffany is probably best known for her breakout hit "I Think We're Alone Now," but this dynamic musician has been making music non-stop for decades. Now she's poised to release two new projects, an acoustic EP plus a new rockin' album. She's also about to launch her new food club, 'Let's Food With Tiffany.' We caught up with this energetic performer and it was a blast! Find out more at tiffanytunes.comhttps://americansongwriter.com/american-songwriter-podcast-network/she-rocks-podcast/

Hello, friends! Normally we would be releasing a new episode today. But a certain pandemic, of which we will not name, has complicated things a bit. We are still working on making new episodes, because we believe it's important to take a break from the news and spend 30 minutes talking about Lucky Charms or Banoffee Pie or Chicken Katsu, but it's just coming along a bit more slowly. In the meantime, follow along on Instagram to join in on this weekend's Your Last Meal Quarantine Cooking Club!

Getting dinner on the table every night can be a struggle. We're busy all day and then it never fails--the family needs to eat. Again. ;) That's where freezer meals come in and save the day. For this episode, I sat down with my friend Karyn. Karyn also homeschools her kids and we're in the same homeschool group together. I heard about Karyn's Freezer Meal Cooking Club and I (politely) invited myself. Her group needed a sub and I was happy to step in! We're chatting about how to set up your own club, why it's a good ideas and plenty of other ideas if the club idea isn't possible for you. Head over to the show notes for video coverage of Cooking Club, a list of tools to make freezer cooking much easier and best of all, a TON of recipes from Karyn's arsenal! THANK YOU, Karyn! They’ve received recognition from magazines like Sunset, Better Homes and Gardens, In Style, Everyday with Rachel Ray, Oprah and Martha Stewart. Their latest project: Cooking Club is an innovative and convenient meal planning, shopping, and prepping tool. When Sara isn’t busy raising her two young kids and working on Cooking Club, she’s probably working freelance or as a personal chef. In episode 29 we talked about making time for our spouse and now in today's episode, we are talking about making time for your friends. I used to think that friendships should form organically and would grow if they were meant to, but I was wrong. While a handful of relationships do form naturally, longevity and depth are marked by intention. But what does that really mean? We are here today to discuss ways to incorporate intentional friendship into your everyday. Mentioned in the Show: Practical ideas to foster friendship Schedule it! Email: feedback@kitchencounterpodcast.com Leave me voice mail feedback at: 971-208-5493 Fall is officially here! This excites me because at least here in Oregon, the weather begins to change from long hot days to shorter and cooler ones. That means it's time to bring on the "one pot" dinners. That's a term I use collectively for soups, stews, chili, casseroles, and basically anything where most of the meal is done in one pot, kettle, or baking dish. One of my favorite meals of this type is shepherd's pie. A little Irish pub in Newport Oregon, Nana's Irish Pub, makes one of my all-time favorite versions of this dish. If you ever find yourself in the Nye Beach neighborhood of Newport, do yourself a favor and get into Nana's. You get bonus points if it's a stormy day (it makes the food and atmosphere all the better)! I rounded up a few shepherd's pie recipes for you to take a look at, my favorite to make being the Gordon Ramsey version linked below. It's relatively easy, and is packed full of rich flavors. Gordon Ramsey's Shepherd's Pie Mario Batali takes shepherd's pie up a level Alton Brown's Shepherd's Pie Shepherd's pie recipe from Allrecipes.com I also had an opportunity to have a short conversation with my brother Randy about a cooking club that he and his wife and another couple started a few years back. He mentioned that it might be a good topic for the show, and I agreed! We talk about why cooking clubs are a great way to grow your skills in the kitchen and how to get one started. Randy also shared an amazing coleslaw recipe! Randy's Blue Cheese Coleslaw Recipe! Connect with The Kitchen Counter Podcast!
