In this enlightening episode, our host Jennifer Aube is joined by Mariah Frisella, a seasoned healthcare professional specializing in hormonal health. Mariah shares her expert insights into the complexities of managing hormonal imbalances in both men and women, emphasizing the personalized and often overlooked approach required in contemporary healthcare. In this episode: Hormonal Health in Perimenopause: Mariah begins by discussing the critical role of hormones like progesterone and testosterone in alleviating perimenopausal symptoms in women. She highlights how these treatments can complement the body's natural hormone production, providing relief and enhancing overall well-being. Men's Hormonal Health: Transitioning to men's health, Mariah notes that while men are generally simpler to treat hormonally than women, they still require a nuanced approach. She discusses the importance of testosterone replacement therapy in addressing symptoms such as brain fog, fatigue, weight gain, and decreased libido, which are often exacerbated by age-related decreases in testosterone. Mariah also points out lifestyle factors, such as high-impact sports and heavy marijuana use, that can negatively impact testosterone production. Systemic Benefits of Hormone Optimization: Further, Mariah elucidates the broader benefits of proper testosterone levels in men, including protection against heart disease and improved insulin sensitivity, which can stave off type 2 diabetes. The Impact of Legalized Marijuana: The conversation also covers contemporary issues like the impact of legalized marijuana on hormonal health. With increasing usage following legalization, Mariah stresses the importance of awareness regarding marijuana's potential to reduce testosterone levels, a topic she feels needs more visibility, especially among younger demographics. Challenges and Rewards of a Personalized Practice: Reflecting on her career shift from traditional nursing to founding her own practice, Mariah shares the challenges and rewards of creating a space where both clients and healthcare providers feel empowered. She emphasizes the satisfaction derived from providing care that truly listens to and addresses individual needs, which was often constrained in the corporate healthcare setting. Don't miss the profound insights and actionable advice in this episode that could be the key to unlocking better health and well-being.

Whether we are talking business, or life in general, putting genuine and real connections with people as a top priority above all else is the key to success. That doesn't mean being a people pleaser and always saying “yes”, but it means operating out of a mentality of always being ethical and expressing gratitude for the people in your life. Knowing when to say "no" and set boundaries is important, so finding that balance between love for others and love for yourself is an important skill to have. In this episode, Alison sits down with Emily Frisella to discuss the wisdom she imparts in her book, “Relationships First.”Emily Frisella is a multi-passionate entrepreneur, business coach, speaker, and author of three best-selling books. She started her first business at just 20 years old, and since then she has built successful businesses by prioritizing relationships and operating from her core values. Emily's mission is to help women reach their potential and empower them to lead in their personal and professional lives through self-development, awareness, and learning to brand their passions and talents. Emily has a message that is especially important for young people to hear early on, and that is people who will criticize you have a problem with themselves, so always stay true to yourself. This is an episode you will want to share with people of all ages as Emily empowers you to love people fiercely while being authentically you.Emily gets real and honest about how she manages to get everything done and how she has been able to reach the success she has accomplished. She shares how she manages stress and how she got comfortable saying no while continuing to operate from a place of gratitude and integrity. It is important to protect your peace and energy, so knowing how to audit the circle of those around you will help you keep a healthy balance of pouring into others while not neglecting to pour into yourself. Too many people are operating out of a mentality of transactional relationships and only caring what other people can offer them, but Emily encourages us all to be genuine in our relationships and the rest will fall into place.Key highlights:Emily's childhood growing up as a shy and very introverted childLessons Emily learned growing up and her message for young people to not pay attention to those that criticize and learn to love yourselfHow people treat you is a “them” problem, not a “you” problem Build a community that is for you and not against you Gradually working people out of your lifeHow Emily got comfortable saying "no"The trouble with social media and people not being honestHow Emily manages stressPeople, passion, and profits: Treating people right will get you profitsTime is love, and the power of handwritten lettersEpisode resources:Get a copy of Emily's book: Relationships First Connect with Emily: Instagram: @emilyfrisellaWebsite: emilyfrisella.comConnect with Alison:Instagram: @alisonanswers | @lagercounselingWebsite: LagerCounseling.comYouTube: Alison AnswersFacebook: Alison Lager Lcsw Casac

How did you learn the value of a dollar? For Emily, her parents taught her early just how hard it is to earn money on your own. She credits her work ethic to this lesson, and has brought it with her every day--ever since she took her first jobs (yes, jobs) at age 14.  Emily Frisella is the founder of the business Fit Home & Health. She launched her first business at age 20, wrote two bestselling cookbooks, hosted a podcast, and founded the Women in Business Workshop, among many other things. She's here today to walk us through how she plans and executes her days to be the most effective bad*ss she can be.  On this episode of Direct AF, Lisa interviews Emily about her experience launching and running Fit Home & Health. She's learned a lot over the years: what the difference is between good busy and bad busy, the importance of finding a community on your wavelength, and the role of work ethic in your daily life. Tune in today to hear stories, advice, and banter that will help you revitalize your entrepreneurial energy and take the next step in your journey.    What You'll Learn:  How playing volleyball taught Emily the value of losing, competition, and working for your win What Emily does in a day to keep herself effectively busy and avoid overexerting herself Why part of Emily's mantra is “humble yourself,” and how being humble will help you as an entrepreneur And so much more!   Favorite Quote:  “Through everything, I learned how important it is to ask for help. We are all surrounded by people who are waiting to help. You can do your own thing and provide for yourself and help will only make you stronger.” Emily Frisella   How To Get Involved:  You can learn more about Emily Frisella on Fit Home & Health's website.
