Mick Wall is one of rock music's greatest writers. From Kerrang! to Classic Rock and publications all around the world, Mick has been telling stories about the rock musicians we all love for decades and has written more than 20 books on legendary acts like Jimi Hendrixx, Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Guns N Roses, Iron Maiden & more. Recently he decided to take on the task of one of the most successful US rock bands in history, the Eagles. The band have always been portrayed as country/rock superstars who were victims of great success, excess and infighting. Mick has a way of moving past all that to distill the real story of the band in the times in which they were formed, rose to the top and disintegrated in Life In The Fast Lane. The book is a great read and Mick offers some context of the Los Angeles the guys came out of - a post 60s, post Manson time where the American Dream was hanging on by a thread. Mick also spoke with us about some of the other superstars he's written about over the years like James Hetfield & Lars Ulrich (Metallica), Axl Rose (Guns N Roses), Steve Clark (Def Leppard) and more. Though some have found his take on certain artists to be harsh, Mick approaches his work not as a fan but as a writer whose only concern is that of the voyage of the reader. Mick Wall is one of the world's best-known rock writers and the author of over 25 internationally bestselling biographies and ghosted memoirs, including definitive titles on Led Zeppelin (When Giants Walked the Earth), Metallica (Enter Night), AC/DC (Hell Ain't a Bad Place to Be), Black Sabbath (Symptom of the Universe), Lou Reed, The Doors (Love Becomes a Funeral Pyre), Foo Fighters, Lemmy and Guns N' Roses (Last of the Giants). During his long career in the music business, Mick worked with Dire Straits, Thin Lizzy, Journey, REO Speedwagon, Black Sabbath, The Damned, Willie Nelson, The Band, Kris Kristofferson, Motörhead, and many more. WE ARE THE PODS! WE ARE THE PODS.....What's your most loved and least favorite song on the Jam's Compact Snap?! For the third of our four-episode series of Greatest Hits episodes, Jim chose the shorter, 21 song version of the Jam's Snap, still resulting in our longest episode to date. Not just the most songs we've ever talked about but no less than four guest rankers weighed with their favorite Jams! Vino Martinez from the San Diego Weller-influenced band the Bassics, Bay Area teen Mod and worldwide favorite Bart Davenport, actual British person Richie Merrett from Airhead and Modernation plus Style Council percussionist Gary Wallis all chime in with opinions. A rare non-Adam production edited by Sam! Listen at WeWillRankYouPod.com, Apple, Spotify or your local tube station. It's a huge honour to be able to bring you this podcast chat as I'm joined by The Jam legend, Bruce Foxton. A man whose bass lines, and style of playing, are amongst some of the most recognisable on the planet. Often identifiable after just a few notes. Down at the Tube Station at Midnight, In The Crowd, The Eton Rifles, Funeral Pyre, Pretty Green, Going Underground... I could easily go on... We hear how he joined the band - a line up of Paul Weller, Rick Buckler and Steve Brookes in 1974 and his viewpoint on the band's incredible journey through live gigs and studio recordings to their huge success and, quite rightly, a whole heap of moments that he is massively proud of. We also get the story of the band's split in 1982 from his point of view and the subsequent recording and release of his first solo album - Touch Sensitive - in 1984. I was lucky enough to be in the audience when Bruce joined Paul Weller's solo show in 2010 for a very special night at London's Royal Albert Hall so hearing the story of the reconnection of their friendship after so many years of no communication was fascinating. We also chat about From The Jam and the new Bruce Foxton and Russell Hastings album The Butterfly Effect which is set for release on Friday October 28th. तोपर्यंत, शिकत रहा, माहिती करून घ्या कारण इतिहासाला कालमर्यादा नसते!While Indra is considered the pivot of Vedic Mythology, then Agni is the pivot of Vedic rituals. In this episode host Saniya Mane speaks to our guest Bipin Kulkarni on stories surrounding Agni in detail. If Indra is the pivot of Vedic Mythology, then Agni is the pivot of Vedic rituals. Agni is perhaps most closely associated with sacrificial fires where he is thought to carry the offerings of humans to the gods. Over time, Agni's importance as a god diminishes, due to his overindulgence in consuming too many offerings, a fact explained in the Mahabharata. In today's episode of Akhanda Bharat; Saniya tells us interesting stories about Agni, who apart from being on sculptures is also seen on some ancient coins. Agni was important in other ancient religions too and not limited to India and the Vedic religion.Follow our host Saniya Mane on Instagramhttps://www.instagram.com/saniyamane/?hl=enYou can listen to this show and other awesome shows on the IVM Podcasts app on Android: IVM Podcasts - Apps on Google Play or iOS: IVM Podcasts, or any other podcast app.You can check out our website at https://shows.ivmpodcasts.com/
Hello Skaters, Are you feeling remotely human? We hope so, but we understand if your sense of humanness is off-kilter. Rather than talking about world-collapsing forces like the unchecked advance of razor-toothed, bloodthirsty capitalists or a pretty good Antihero video, we at Vent City thought our time with you would be better spent conceptualizing a utopia. Yes, Professor—and man I once described on the Thrasher site as “firebrand novelist”—Kyle Beachy leads a discussion with Kristin Ebeling, Ted Barrow and Ted Schmitz about THE PERFECT SKATE SPOT. And if you are reading this before listening, I encourage you to take a moment to think of your immaculate plaza or parking lot or whatever. And then answer this question: Why are you reading the show notes before listening? You’re weird. Though the panel differs slightly on what ideal sessions would look like and what players would constitute the perfect crew, one thing emerges as absolutely true—you must do a frontside noseslide for the trick challenge. Do it, or die trying. Actually, it’s not not worth dying over…maybe not even worth getting sweaty over. But it might be fun and we hope to share that experience of fun. Nothing gets set ablaze on that beautiful future-banning bonfire which we have come to know and love as the Funeral Pyre segment, because this is a rare exercise in building up a brightly reimagined skateboarding. As always, whatever I, the latter Ted, said on the show is probably wrong but I get to write the notes so I’ll leave you with the answer to the perfect spot. It’s that 20 stair in DC that Bobby tried to ollie. As always! Intro Music by Roar Credits Music by Ilana Bryne (naivetrax.bandcamp.com) Logo and Graphic Design by Michael Worful (@worful) Support the show at patreon.com/ventcity And yes, I did buy the whole squad Taco Bell for $6.56. Skaters, what is up? We are here with a half-cast on Vent City episode number 1-5. On the show, Ted Barrow, Kyle Beachy, and Ted Schmitz are talking: The best nolliers other than Matt Miller and Ryan Lay—obviously Paulo Diaz What two Teds were separately doing in San Francisco Why Kyle likes that one parking lot so goddamn much How Ted S. and Kyle deal with losing their dear canine companions A slightly broader conversation about skating and mourning The new Bronze video that most of us liked but one out-of-touch guy wishes it was a little weirder The new Kyle Walker and Ishod part We don't talk about Chief Keef because, somehow, none of us knew his music before googling it after the show We have a short Funeral Pyre for boring all black grip jobs courtesy of Ted S., but Ted B. doesn't mind it so maybe it's a tie or something. Whatever, I write the show notes, so I'll just say once and for all, fuck boring grip jobs. Spice it up like Snot Rag—who is a good friend of mine. You know, the guy with pink hair and baggy pants and colored rails? Yeah that's him in the slip-ons. Kyle needs to be two places at once and that's our whole show. Thank you to everyone who supports the show. We've got more coming soon. Hello and what's up, skaters! What we've got here is another episode of Vent City, where we talk skateboarding and some other bullshit. On this show we've got Kristin Ebeling, Alex White, Ted Schmitz and Ryan Lay, who are all also skaters. We talk about what's good in skateboarding like Pat Burke and Danny Dicola being awesome skaters in the Slave video, Radio Silence. Also Ryan Lay likes the Cafe video, Sonata, which you can find a link to right after this sentence is over. https://www.freeskatemag.com/2019/12/12/cafe/ Ryan also skated a demo for Bernie Sanders and Skate After School, along with Cowtown skateboards, gave out hundreds of skateboards to kids in AZ! Kristin and Skate Like A Girl delivered skateboards for Christmas to kids around Seattle with help from both 35th shops and we can all agree that's what's good. She also helped premiere the videos for Scene Attack in Seattle which is a sick street video contest that we might have a link to after I text Northwest people to get the link since googling "scene attack seattle" has delivered some truly horrifying results that aren't skate related at fucking all. Alex White is digging Maité Steenhoudt's eponymous part by Element and we have a nice little discussion talking about different parts of the video we liked that are all good and just reasons to get hyped on it. Oh, you want a link? Shit, you already saw it cause it was like three weeks ago? Well, fuck you, here's the link anyway so you watch it again, goddamnit! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VpFRepAzKJ0&feature=youtu.be Also, who knew that Element had a Youtube channel? After the good stuff we get into more good stuff by talking about Women's Battle at the Berrics where both Alex and Kristin handled some business refereeing and broadcasting the action. After that contest discussion we get into a deeper talk about women's contests more broadly and whether or not all contests should be done away with. The answer to that question is in the show but if you're reading this, I'll just tell you: most of us are fine with contests existing except Ryan Lay who just wants pros to be out in the streets and in the community skating together. Then we get into our usual Funeral Pyre segment where we say farewell and goodbye to things in skating that no longer giving us any functional value. I, Ted, think that the front blunt with a crail grab shouldn't be performed anymore and also that it should definitely never be written or spoken of because the name it was given is just kinda ew. Ryan says something about contests and we just end up throwing him on the pyre instead. Goodbye, old friend, you are an amazing skater and dude but you don't know what should be skating worthy of the story and what is for the feed. Kristin throws being a "cool guy" onto the gorgeous pillar of flaming corpses. Just, like, say what's up to people and be mellow about it when you see familiar faces at the park. And especially don't purposely ignore people. That's super weird. Alex says teen pregnancy is quite passé so let's drop it. Also, we back planned parenthood where you can get lots of reproductive health services and access to contraceptives! Want a link to that as well? What's that? You know how Google works? Well, fuck you again, here it is! https://www.plannedparenthood.org/ And that's it for the shows main product. Music by Ilana Bryne (@ilana.bryne or naivetrax.bandcamp.com) Logo and Graphic Design by Michael Worful (@worful) Also check out this cool shit he designed for Skate After School and Pyramid Country https://www.pyramidcountry.com/product/pyramid-country-x-skate-after-school-tee-white After you see all that, feel free to listen to a truly cringey jam I made for our Pro Flow members who give to our patreon! And yeah, I'm gonna link it. https://www.patreon.com/ventcity Sincerely though, we thank each an every one of you for listening. We love you a lot.
Fellow Skaters, it is with the utmost pride and sincerity that we present this recording, as a living testament and recollection of history in the making during our generation. Allow us to re-introduce ourselves, our name is Vent City. V to the E-N-T-C-I-T-Y. On this episode you will hear Kristin Ebeling, Ted Barrow, Kyle Beachy, and Ted Schmitz say many words about our current skate of affairs...or maybe state of the skation? Skate of the skation? This week we have a discussion about many things we think are good in skating which are listed below with the corresponding links. We also have a discussion about Kristin's recent trip to Vancouver to talk with other folks working with social skate projects. Then we go into the topic of mental health and give some insight to our personal experiences and struggles. We also sort of talk about Milton Martinez for a second and also the Primitive video in the Funeral Pyre segment. No trick challenge this week cause we forgot. Maybe we'll have two next week. Here's what we think is good in skating. Buy these, read these if you want to enjoy some non-video-part skate radness. We talk new music from Sun Worship, Abyssal Vacuum, Child Abuse, and Ancient Emblem, along with Keanu Reeves drinking orphan blood, Marvel "cinema," yelling @ communist Tom Morello, the perfect album length, which NYC mayor is hiding children, Rupert Murdoch death incantations, and some unhinged rants. Last week we waffle stomped our way through some killer death/doom/noise and talked about why Spotify hates Blood Incantation. New Music Featured This Week: Ancient Emblem - 'Farewell' from Funeral Pyre (out now) Sun Worship - 'Devoured' from Emanations Of Desolation (out now) Abyssal Vacuum - 'VIII' from MMXIX (out 1/12) Child Abuse - 'www.nyc.gov/site/finance/pay-now/pay/' from Imaginary Enemy (out now)

Welcome Back, Skaters, to another episode of Vent City. On this show we have Kristin Ebeling, Alex White, Ted Barrow, and Ted Schmitz having a conversation about the Sk8 Rats video by Shane Aukland which has full parts from Kristin and Shari White from the Skate Witches and more. Shane steps in to set Ted S. straight on some of the music used throughout the video. The panel discusses Kristin’s part at length after a lengthy discussion of bath balms and the necessity of self-care in your 30s. They also discuss Cory Kennedy’s new part and how the prison system in America is a fucking joke. At some point they talk about the uses of a Theragun during foreplay so there’s that. Alex also tells a show-stopping about how the ASR Tradeshow saved her life. To prep the interview with Keegan Guizard at the College Skateboarding Educational Foundation (CSEF), the panel talks a little about each of their college experiences and what Ted B. gives an inside look at what is actually entailed by a Ph.D program—time, so much time. After Ted Schmitz (me) sits down with Keegan the group goes on to talk about the New York Times article about the events that happened in San Francisco earlier this year between skaters and a security guard. Then there’s the Funeral Pyre segment: Alex White throws in the practice of Go Funding Yourself to get to contests. The platform could probably be used to more necessary things. Kristin lights ablaze the practice of having companies being run and operated mostly by men who are shutting down opportunities for women in skating and don’t know how to advance equity in skating. Boy’s club shit needs to go. Ted Barrow can see, somewhere off in the distance a glowing orange strobe that seems to get more intense the closer he gets. It’s a giant temple of flames and everyone is standing around it honoring a memory while the heat keeps them at a distance. That giant flame is fueled by EMB footy in 2019 and the kept ablaze by the thick oil of nostalgia that soaks each clip. The historian stays toward the back of crowd, taking in the last flickers of light as the crowd starts to dissipate while he mutters to himself—or maybe an imagined historically minded crowd member—“all I see is an absence, not a presence.” Ted Schmitz on a petty note takes issue with the constantly reinventing instagram move of archiving the grid so skaters only have one post up, making it impossible to find the funny heel flip board slide of yesterday. Welcome back to Vent City. Our tagline is something like “a place to talk about skateboarding and all its bullshit,” which pretty much covers what goes on in this episode. First up, we are excited to announce that we have launched a Patreon for fans of the show to support the show and access some exclusive content (www.patreon.com/ventcity). This will help us work on the show more and take a few shifts off a month to focus on the production and editing. We’ll make some stickers too and get those to you if you sign up. We have two tiers: Rep Flow ($5/month) will get you extra Patreon-only content and some bragging rights; Pro Flow ($20/month) for the die-hards out there who are maybe too down for the show. Pro flow will get you a shoutout on every episode as well as access to the sweet extra content and hell, if we see you out in the real world, we’ll buy you a drink (coffee, beer, tea, soda, water or even a Red Bull) As for the discussion in this episode: Kristin Ebeling, Ted Barrow, Kyle Beachy, Ted Schmitz and Ryan Lay talk Nike’s Gizmo and a bunch of other cool stuff. Kristin conducted and wrote the Gizmo interviews is this month’s Thrasher, so do yourself a favor and pick that up. The feature of this episode is an interview Ryan Lay with some of the key players at Skate Pal (Charlie Davis, Aram Sabbah and Theo Krish), an NGO doing incredible work in the West Bank in Palestine. They talk their mission to support young people in Palestine through skateboarding by building skateparks and growing the skate scene in the region. To learn more about or to support Skate Pal with their amazing work go to http://www.skatepal.co.uk Volunteer, donate, spread the word. Following the interview, the panel discusses Ryan’s conversation and then casts a few things out of skateboarding in the Funeral Pyre segment. Kyle thinks we could do with less of the travel-based skateboarding that feels disconnected from the skaters’ deep relationship with the place or its history—Shanghai’s marble landscape comes to mind. Ryan is over long back smiths that are just like funky 5050s. Kristin invites people to find some more inclusive vocabulary to address non-male skaters by casting off the term “female skateboarding.” Ted Barrow thinks we could do better by not confusing the world of skateboarding with the act of skateboarding—hear him out! Ted Schmitz’s insecurities about his own output in skating make him throw Jacob Elliott Harris of Atlantic Drift onto the pyre—Harris is just too good at everything and is making people look bad. This one is a doozie, coming in around three hours. Enjoy the discussion and let us know what you think of the show or if we fucked up in some way by sending us an email at ventcitypod@gmail.com Music in this episode was provided by the amazing Ilana Bryne (naivetrax.bandcamp.com & @ilana.bryne on Instragram) Logo Design by Michael Worful (@worful)
What's up, skaters. Welcome back to another episode of Vent City—a place to talk about skating and all its bullshit. Full original cast on the show this episode: Kristin Ebeling, Ryan Lay, Ted Schmitz, Kyle Beachy and Ted Barrow. We talk about the tenth Wheels of Fortune event in Seattle put on by Kristin, Skate Like a Girl and their partners. We also discuss the Actions Realized board by Real Skateboards and Unity Skateboarding. More things are talked about, like, what's up with that last Birdhouse video? The Funeral Pyre segment this week reduces to ash the practices of filming cops do kickflips and dehumanizing people experiencing homelessness. In a bankshot, Kyle Beachy throws in skaters not buying things print—buy the print mags and zines and donate them to Lookback Library when you need space. Ted Barrow casts off his switch varial heels in front of a camera and the other Ted says skaters turning into bikers (both kinds) are out. Listen, tell us nice thing or ways we fucked up at ventcitypod@gmail.com. Thank you.
