Ren Wednesday and Adam Whybray are back with their discussion of part two of the Goosebumps TV series from 2023, and they won't be satisfied until they get their puppet carnival! This is a Slappy-centric set of episodes, covering the territiory of Night of the Living Dummy, Night of the Living Dummy Two, the lesser known mud-monster episode You Can't Scare Me, and purportedly Welcome to Horrorland, though Ren and Adam were unconvinced. Digressions include teaching Shakespeare with puppets, robot wars and the suitability of an angsty teen listening to The Proclaimers. This is the one you have all been waiting for! The one where Tyler is scared out of his brain watching a horror movie. We also review the first episode of Goosebumps TV series.
One of the briefest and strangest sublabels in Full Moon's history, Filmonsters was trying to capitalize on a very specific niche, namely the success of the GOOSEBUMPS TV series and it's subsequent VHS spin-offs. These two family-friendly riffs on classic Universal Monsters were intended to be part of a longer series, but petered out after only two simultaneously-released entries. Actor, writer, and artist John Gholson joins us to discuss this weird footnote and share his love of Frankenstein tales. So, Slappy haunted my dreams as a kid, that's no surprise. I'll talk about that forever. I'll talk about how the Goosebumps TV show haunted me as a kid. That's fine. Curse me, if you will. But maybe it is all rose-tinted shades from here on out or really, what are a couple of 30-year old men doing reading Goosebumps anyway? Are we really that far out of the recommended audience to glean anything from these narratives? Yes. Yes, I think we honestly are. Does that mean we're going to stop reading them? Of course not. It's too funny to stop now. Plus, Mr. Skellybones and I are having one hell of a time doing so. Just pals pallin' around, you know. Taking a dip in the cold lake together. Skinny dipping, as it were. And let me tell you, we're not the only boners in this lake, either. Just another reason not to send your kids away to camp, right? How many episodes revolve around this, I mean - never mind. R.L. Stine, in conversation with Richard Wolinsky and Richard A. Lupoff, recorded in the KPFA studios on September 22, 1995 during the book tour for the adult novel, “Superstitious.” On September 22, 1995, Richard Wolinsky and Richard A. Lupoff had the chance to interview R.L. Stine in the KPFA studio about his first adult novel, Superstitious. At the time, both the first series of Fear Street and Goosebumps were still being written, and a 1990s Goosebumps TV series was yet to make its debut. R.L. Stine, who recently turned 80 years old, is often called the Stephen King of young adult and children's horror. With nearly 500 books under his belt alongside several film and TV adaptations, he is best known for two series and their later iterations, Fear Street and Goosebumps A new Goosebumps series recently completed its run on Disney+ and Hulu, and the film Zombie Town debuted in theaters in September 2023 and is now available on Hulu. He doesn't go into it in the interview, but along with his books written as R.L. Stine, he also write dozens of humor books for kids under the name Jovial Bob Stine. What he does talk about here is his writing process, his thoughts about the work he does, and how it appears his various children and young adult books have created lifelong readers and improved test scores in elementary and high schools across the country. To date, “Superstitious” is only one of four adult novels written by R.L. Stine. This interview was digitized, remastered and re-edited in November 2023 and has not been heard in over twenty five years. The post From the Archive: R.L. Stine, Goosebumps, 1995 appeared first on KPFA.

On this edition of Parallax Views, in 2016 a little regional horror movie called The Barn became and underground hit. Set on Halloween, the movie told the story of a group of teenage pranksters and their encounter with a trio of local legend monsters known as The Boogeyman, Hollow Jack, and the Candy Corn Scarecrow. Featuring guest starring roles from horror icons Linnea Quigley (Return of the Living Dead, Night of the Demons) and Ari Lehman (the first Jason from Friday the 13th), the movie evoked the nostalgia of the old Goosebumps TV series and direct-to-video horror movies you would see in mom 'n' pop video stores in the halcyon days of the early/mid 1990's. Director Justin M. Seaman ended up getting a sequel off the ground that was released in 2022 called The Barn Part II that amped up the gore quotient and featured guest appearances by Doug Bradley (Pinhead from the Hellraiser movie franchise), TV horror host Joe Bob Briggs, Diana Prince (Darcy the Mail Girl from The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs), Troma's Lloyd Kaufman, and returning performances from "Scream Queen" Linnea Quigley and "First Jason" Ari Lehman. Together, these two movie make for the perfect Halloween double feature this spooky season and Parallax Views is joined by director Justin Seaman and cinematographer Zane Hershberger to discuss this spook-tacular double feature! THE BARN duology has it all: chainsaws, blood, zombies, curses, 90s nostalgia, creepy monsters, practical special effects, Halloween season atmosphere, and much, much more! Stine was born on October 8, 1943[2] in Columbus, Ohio,[3] the son of Lewis Stine, a shipping clerk, and Anne Feinstein. He grew up in Bexley, Ohio.[4][5][6] He comes from a Jewish family. Stine began writing at age nine, when he found a typewriter in his attic, subsequently beginning to type stories and joke books.[7] According to the documentary Tales from the Crypt: From Comic Books to Television, R.L. Stine said that he remembered reading the popular/infamous Tales from the Crypt comic books when he was young and credited them as one of his inspirations. He graduated from Ohio State University in 1965 with a Bachelor of Arts in English.[8] While at OSU, R. L. Stine edited the OSU humor magazine The Sundial for three out of his four years there.[2] He later moved to New York City to pursue his career as a writer.[4] Stine wrote dozens of humor books for kids under the name Jovial Bob Stine and created the humor magazine Bananas.[4] Bananas was written for teenagers and published by Scholastic Press for 72 issues between 1975 and 1984, plus various "Yearbooks" and paperback books. Stine was editor and responsible for much of the writing (other contributors included writers Robert Leighton, Suzanne Lord and Jane Samuels and artists Sam Viviano, Samuel B. Whitehead, Bob K. Taylor, Bryan Hendrix, Bill Basso, and Howard Cruse). Recurring features included "Hey – Lighten Up!", "It Never Fails!", "Phone Calls", "Joe" (a comic strip by John Holmstrom), "Phil Fly", "Don't You Wish...", "Doctor Duck", "The Teens of Ferret High", "First Date" (a comic strip by Alyse Newman), and "Ask Doctor Si N. Tific". In 1986, Stine wrote his first horror novel, called Blind Date.[9] He followed with many other novels, including The Babysitter, Beach House, Hit and Run, and The Girlfriend.[4] He was also the co-creator and head writer for the Nickelodeon children's television series Eureeka's Castle,[10] original episodes of which aired as part of the Nick Jr. programming block during the 1989–1995 seasons. In 1989, Stine started writing Fear Street books.[11] Before launching the Goosebumps series, Stine authored three humorous science fiction books in the Space Cadets series titled Jerks in Training, Bozos on Patrol, and Losers in Space.[12] In 1992, Stine and Parachute Press went on to launch Goosebumps.[4] Also produced was a Goosebumps TV series that ran for four seasons from 1995 to 1998[13] and three video games; Escape from HorrorLand, Attack of the Mutant[14] and Goosebumps HorrorLand.[15] In 1995, Stine's first novel targeted at adults, called Superstitious, was published.[16] He has since published three other adult-oriented novels: The Sitter, Eye Candy,[8] and Red Rain. There is no point in living anymore I want to take my life, I have no personality no hobby. Who am I. I want to die. I truly want to kill myself. $champagnesaucin --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

Bet you guys thought this episode was never coming, huh? Well surprise, bitches! We made the mistake of trying to record this through Zoom, and it blew up in our faces. This episode was a mess and took a LOT of clean up. The audio still isn't great, but it's definitely not the worst sounding show we've put out! :D Ring the damn bell! It's time for Ready to Rumble: Round Two! For the second time, we're watching two horror movies centering around professional wrestling. Today's double main event features one of the all time greatest feuds. No, not Michaels vs. Janetty. Not Triple H vs. The Rock. Not even Austin vs. McMahon. I'm talking about Pro Wrestlers vs. Zombies. We then send the episode crashing through a table with a massive Powerbomb. First up, though, we've got the fabulous undercard known as Horror Business. In Real World Horror, we talk about Indonesia's creative way to keep people inside during the COVID-19 pandemic; locking quarantine violators in haunted houses! We also talk about a brand new Goosebumps TV show, an HBO series based on Hellraiser, and a new Netflix program from the director of Train to Busan. We also discuss a new Quibi series and a stay-at-home edition of the Evil Dead 2 escape room from our friends over at Hourglass Escapes. Hear about the details and conspiracy theories surrounding the mysterious explosion of TWA Flight 800 in 1996. Also covered is the terrifying, and probably untrue legend of Pan Am Flight 914, which supposedly disappeared in 1955 only to reappear 37 years later. Other subjects covered include crush-worthy pro wrestlers and swamp photo shoots. Recommendations: Toddy recommends The Flight Channel on YouTube, the 2015 punk thriller Green Room, and the Goosebumps TV series. Scholastic book fairs + Fox Kids = GOOSEBUMPS!! This episode pays a small tribute to the stories of R.L. Stine and the fears he invoked through his books and adapted tv series. In this episode, I answer the most serious of questions: What are the 10 best episodes of the Goosebumps TV series?

The gang is joined by Daniel Erenberg from The Franchise Podcast to talk Welcome to Horrorland from the Goosebumps TV show. Will a doomed family vacation make its way into the scare park as a haunt, scare zone, show or maybe even a ride? The only way to find out is to listen!
Set down the book, Goosebuddies because this time we're turning on the boob tube. Dom, Paul, and Chad watch two "classic" episodes of the Goosebumps TV series. First, "Don't Wake Mummy", a pretty mundane tale of a scaredy boy and his sister whose archaeologist mother commits mail fraud and brings a real ancient pharaoh into their basement. And worst of all; he may become a real, living murderer! As opposed to a zombie one. Up next is the show-exclusive "Click" which so clearly inspired the Adam Sandler emotional comedy. Watch as a boring kid buys a magic remote and only uses it to get the newspaper. Also the boys discover a secondary background TV show that is way more interesting than the episode we're watching. We hope you enjoy our occasional dips into the silver screen of spooks!
