In this episode, Chris Cochrane guest-hosts for his brother Ray and devotes the whole show to one event: Disney’s D23 2026 fan convention in Anaheim. Friday night delivered Marvel’s new X-Men cast, Adam Driver as Mister Sinister, a fresh Avengers: Doomsday trailer, and a release date for Frozen 3. Saturday turned to the parks, with Villains Land, an Indiana Jones dark ride, the long-awaited Expedition Everest yeti repair, and a Monsters Inc land opening in 2027. – Want to start a podcast? Support my Show Sponsor: Best Godaddy Promo Codes Get 1Password Full Summary Chris Cochrane opens the show and explains why this episode breaks the usual format. Instead of six or eight unrelated stories, the entire episode covers Disney’s D23 convention, which he compares to Apple’s WWDC. For newcomers, he notes that D23 is Disney’s official fan club, named for the company’s founding year of 1923. This year’s event ran two nights at the Honda Center: Friday for movies and television, Saturday for the theme parks. Marvel Finally Casts the X-Men Friday’s headline was the X-Men. The Associated Press put the crowd near 12,000, and Marvel Studios used that stage to name its rebooted team. Christopher Abbott plays Professor Charles Xavier, Inde Navarrette plays Rogue, and Maya Boyd plays Storm. Adam Driver rounds out the group as the villain Mister Sinister. Meanwhile, Samara Weaving, Kit Connor, and Sadie Sink were already known as Emma Frost, Cyclops, and Jean Grey. Jake Schreier directs, and the film arrives May 5, 2028. Chris calls the lineup spot-on casting. He singles out Weaving as a perfect match for the comics, and he points out that Sink already appeared as Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Navarrette is the least established name, coming off a breakout role in an indie horror film. Boyd, meanwhile, was the name he knew least, with what he believes is a Broadway background. Above all, Chris hopes Marvel does the team justice, and he recommends the animated revival X-Men ’97 on Disney+ as the best place to start. Frozen 3 Gets a Date and a Chaotic Reveal Frozen 3 lands November 24, 2027. That is the Wednesday of Thanksgiving week, the same slot the first two films used. The story centers on Anna and Kristoff’s wedding, which a new villain, an evil Ice Queen, disrupts. Jennifer Lee returns to direct with Trent Correy, and the full voice cast is back. However, the reveal itself fell apart. Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel performed a darker arrangement of “Frozen Heart.” Meanwhile, the audio failed, the video failed, and a set of doors never opened. Menzel asked the crowd whether they should try it again, and Bell simply narrated everything that was supposed to happen. Afterward, Josh Gad sang “Oooh, Samantha,” a new love song for Olaf. Chris is here for it, since Olaf is one of the franchise’s best comic characters. Pixar, Disney Animation, and the Rest of Friday Night Pixar chief Pete Docter laid out a packed slate. Incredibles 3 hits summer 2028 and follows Violet and Dash sneaking out at night to fight crime. Chris hopes that finally shows a grown-up Jack-Jack. Coco 2 follows in November 2029 with Benjamin Bratt returning as Ernesto de la Cruz. That has fans puzzling over how a villain already in the Land of the Dead comes back. Additionally, Pixar showed an original called Ghost Market and a Venice-set cat film called Gatto. On the Disney Animation side, Zootopia 3 is confirmed. The live-action Tangled arrives March 31, 2028 with Kathryn Hahn as Mother Gothel. Chris considers that casting perfect after her turn in Agatha All Along. A live-action Lilo & Stitch sequel, a new Simpsons movie, a Bluey movie, and a Kingdom Hearts anime series round out the list. For Star Wars fans, Ahsoka returns January 20, 2027. Chris also offers a hot take: he prefers Rogue One to the entire sequel trilogy. Consequently, he welcomes original stories like Ryan Gosling’s upcoming Starfighter. Adam Driver Is Mister Sinister Driver appeared by video rather than in person. He told the crowd that he and Kevin Feige had talked for years about joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Then he announced he would play Magneto. After a long pause, he corrected himself to Nathaniel Milbury, which is Mister Sinister’s human alias. The gag landed because fans had floated Driver for Magneto for years. For anyone new to the comics, Chris explains that Mister Sinister is a geneticist obsessed with mutant DNA, a manipulator rather than a brawler. The cast met backstage only minutes earlier, so Chris is curious how their chemistry develops. Notably, Christopher Abbott previously worked with Driver on HBO’s Girls. The script comes from Beef creator Lee Sung Jin and The Bear co-showrunner Joanna Calo, two prestige-television names that have Chris excited. Why the X-Men Took Thirty Years to Reach the MCU A business story underlies the casting. In the 1990s, a financially struggling Marvel sold film rights to raise cash. Fox ended up with the X-Men and the Fantastic Four, and Sony took Spider-Man. As a result, Marvel Studios built its connected universe from 2008 onward without some of its most famous characters. The Hugh Jackman era of X-Men films belonged to Fox, with a separate continuity and no crossovers. That changed in 2019, when Disney closed its $71 billion purchase of 21st Century Fox’s film and television studio. Most coverage framed the deal as a streaming play, but it also brought the X-Men home. Chris sums it up neatly: Disney signed the paperwork in 2019, cast the film in 2026, and audiences see it in 2028. Ryan Gosling’s Starfighter, Ghost Rider, and VisionQuest Lucasfilm dated Star Wars: Starfighter for May 28, 2027. Gosling plays Kade Auberon, a pilot from the wrong side of the galaxy tied to the fastest starfighter ever built. Before he walked out, Disney played clips of him as a kid on The Mickey Mouse Club. Gosling said the company changed his life then and is changing it again now. He is also playing Ghost Rider in the Marvel universe. That thrills Chris, since Nicolas Cage last carried the character on the big screen. Meanwhile, the Disney+ series VisionQuest arrives October 14. Paul Bettany returns as Vision and James Spader as Ultron, and the trailer drops the two androids into oddly mundane human situations. Bettany joked that Vision has “rather inconveniently died several times.” Chris agrees the character has been through the wringer since WandaVision. The Avengers: Doomsday Trailer Avengers: Doomsday opens December 18, with Joe and Anthony Russo directing. Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Hayley Atwell introduced the new footage. It offers the clearest look yet at Downey as Doctor Doom, who fights off Thor and takes his hammer. Evans appears as Captain America holding a baby, and Ian McKellen shows up as a haggard, long-haired Magneto. One quieter shot has Doom staring at a portrait of a lost wife and child. That frames him as a grieving avenger rather than a world-ender. He also commands an army of comic-accurate Sentinels. The cast pulls from the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, and the legacy Fox X-Men, including Patrick Stewart. Hugh Jackman also appeared on screen to say he is willing to return as Wolverine, though that was not a confirmation. Chris, a self-described Marvel nerd, closes with a theory. He suspects the MCU’s Tony Stark was actually Victor von Doom, adopted by the Starks, which would explain the Downey casting. He also predicts the Fox-era X-Men die off in this film and that Thor may be the major casualty. If it happens, he wants credit for calling it. Disney Parks Around the World Saturday’s Disney Experiences showcase covered parks, resorts, and cruise ships, with Neil Patrick Harris hosting. Hong Kong Disneyland gets an Avengers pavilion that reshapes its Stark Expo skyline. Shanghai Disneyland is building the first land devoted entirely to Spider-Man, complete with a new coaster. Since Spider-Man is his favorite hero, Chris hopes to visit once it opens. Closer to home, Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure is doubling in size with two rides opening in 2028. Avengers: Infinity Defense brings back Jeremy Renner, Anthony Mackie, Chris Hemsworth, and Downey, while Stark Flight Lab adds Brie Larson. A Coco boat ride into the Land of the Dead is also coming, with no height requirement. Chris admits he prefers California Adventure to Disneyland because the rides are better. Overseas, Disneyland Paris will retire its Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain overlay at the end of 2027 and restore the original Jules Verne theme. Paris also gets the first ride ever based on The Lion King. Tokyo Disneyland adds Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue, the first Wreck-It Ralph ride, plus a Space Mountain launch sequence designed with YouTuber Mark Rober. Finally, Disney Cruise Line announced three more ships, including the Disney Believe in 2027 and an entirely new class in 2029. Back in Anaheim, Tomorrowland is getting reimagined, which Chris welcomes because the land badly needs an update. The Magic Happens parade and the Remember Dreams Come True fireworks are both returning. For the tech crowd, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run now has a Fortnite crossover, where in-game missions unlock content on the real ride. Every New Walt Disney World Ride and Land Chris ranks the Florida parks Hollywood Studios first, then Epcot, Animal Kingdom, and Magic Kingdom. Magic Kingdom leads the announcements with Villains Land, now the official name. It features a Maleficent coaster through an enchanted briar and a boat ride through the Evil Queen’s catacombs. Reporting puts its scale near Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, and Glenn Close appeared in character as Cruella to announce it. Piston Peak, the Cars area replacing Tom Sawyer Island, adds two more rides, though their exact names remain unsettled. Additionally, the Carousel of Progress gets new scenes and a recast. Jamie Lee Curtis and Bryan Cranston will voice Mom and Dad starting late spring 2027. Chris, invoking Heisenberg, calls Cranston the GOAT. At Animal Kingdom, the Indiana Jones ride now has a name: Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent. It tells an original 1950 story inside a Maya temple, and Harrison Ford personally served as the physical model for the animatronic. Nearby, the Tropical Americas land brings Antonio’s Fiesta de Encanto, with more than fifty animal animatronics and no height requirement. Then comes the fix park regulars have wanted for years. The Expedition Everest yeti broke soon after the ride opened. Rather than fix it, Disney lit it with a strobe for over a decade, earning the nickname disco yeti. Now it is being repaired and returned to full motion. Chris rates Everest among his top five rides anywhere, and he suggests riding it before the fix so you can compare. Over at Epcot, Spaceship Earth gets its first major story rewrite in nearly twenty years, shifting from communication history to human connection. Dreamfinder also returns to Journey Into Imagination, and Disney Experiences chairman Thomas Mazloum introduced that news with two words: “we heard you.” Mazloum added that Disney has more projects underway than at any point in its history. After this rundown, Chris believes him. Monsters Inc Land Opens in 2027 Monstropolis begins opening at Hollywood Studios in early 2027, but in stages. The headline door coaster will not be ready on day one. It is the first suspended coaster in any Disney park. It also uses Disney’s first vertical lift, hauling riders about forty feet straight up before launching them into the door vault. Instead, the land opens with the Glob Theater’s “Welcome to Monstropolis” show and Harryhausen’s, a working sushi restaurant lifted from the first film. The stage show features an original song by Randy Newman, his first ever written for a theme park attraction. Chris also notes that the restaurant name honors stop-motion legend Ray Harryhausen. Wrapping up, Chris names the X-Men casting and the Doomsday trailer as his favorite moments of the weekend. He hopes to cover more movie news on future shows, and he plugs Dune: Part Three, which also opens December 18. Chris signs off with the usual mentions: GNC Insider at geeknewscentral.com/insider, email at geeknews@gmail.com, the newsletter, and modern podcast apps at podcastapps.com. He also thanks GoDaddy for over twenty years of support. The post Huge Announcements From D23!! #1873 appeared first on Geek News Central.
Daarover hoor je alles in deze Mini-Game Round-Up van All in the Game. Vragen? Mail ons! Op allinthegame@bnr.nl Over All in the GameAll in the Game is de podcast over games voor iedereen. Het komt allemaal aan bod in All in the Game. This week, we are officially "Tint Boys" broadcasting straight from a transformed warehouse in Glendale, California, for the global Tinter Battles window tinting championships. We immerse ourselves into the intense, WWE-style subculture of competitive window tinting, complete with pre-competition online trash-talking, NASCAR-style matching team jerseys, and heavyweight champion belts. We hit the competition floor to interview Cody from Tex Window Tinting about his mid-competition broken squeegee, lending his toolbelt to a friend whose luggage was lost, and his high-tech "Tint Buster" backpack. We also catch up with Carlos, the CEO of Tinter Battles, who explains how he combined his musical performance background with his tinting career to give these hardworking professionals the rockstar platform they deserve. After watching the intense flat glass and Paint Protective Film (PPF) heats, we officially give ourselves tinting nicknames: "Squeege.E" and "Mikey No Bubbles," and definitively declare that window tinting is a sport that belongs on ESPN. Taking a break from the competition, we did some LA exploring, starting with a trip to Ace Hardware for the last pack of Pokémon cards before finally experiencing the famous grocery store, Erewhon. Despite expecting $20 grapes, we were surprised to find the produce prices pretty normal—though the $165 branded hoodies and $100 lotions definitely lived up to the hype. After consulting with the in-store sommelier for some wine, we proudly embraced our new status as "Erewhon girlies". Later, we retreated to the hotel to order some Panda Express and had a gaming session where Mike quickly grasped the mechanics of Fortnite, even while Erin got targeted and eliminated twice in a single round. To round out our West Coast trip, we engaged in some "business business" by visiting the studio of the GroupChat podcast. We recap the incredibly pristine bathrooms and share what it was like to sit in and watch the two brothers record their tech and finance show. While Erin felt a little out of her depth listening to the highly educated business banter, we loved getting a behind-the-scenes look at how another successful podcast operates.
Vragen? Mail ons! Op allinthegame@bnr.nl Over All in the GameAll in the Game is de podcast over games voor iedereen. Het komt allemaal aan bod in All in the Game. WSTR Galactic Public Access: Queen Jamilla, Star Wars News, and Convention Rants This episode starts with a deep look at Queen Jamilla, a brief but meaningful Naboo leader in Attack of the Clones, and uses her to explore Naboo politics, democracy, and how Star Wars makes even tiny characters feel important. Todd also covers a few Star Wars news items, then wraps with personal updates on Fortnite, Fan Expo Chicago, and the challenges of crowded convention venues. Key topics Todd explains who Queen Jamilla is A Naboo monarch with less than two minutes of screen time, but enough presence to spark a long character discussion. He walks through her role as Queen Amidala's successor and her place in the prequel-era timeline. Why Queen Jamilla matters despite limited screen time Todd argues that even minor political figures help Star Wars feel like a lived-in galaxy. He connects Jamilla's short appearance to the larger sense of Naboo continuity and political realism. Naboo politics and democratic idealism Jamilla's line about keeping faith in the Republic becomes the core theme of the segment. Todd contrasts her trust in institutions with Amidala's more experienced, harder-earned political perspective. Jamilla's relationship to Padmé Amidala Todd reads Jamilla as someone seeking advice and guidance from a respected predecessor. Their interaction is framed as mutual trust, with Padmé representing experience and Jamilla representing idealism. The threat of war in the background The discussion touches on the growing separatist crisis and the early signs of the Clone Wars. Todd views Jamilla as somewhat sheltered from the galaxy's larger collapse, which shapes her optimism. Naboo's social structure and leadership Todd questions the age and selection of Naboo's queens, noting the youth of both Padmé and Jamilla. He suggests Naboo could have benefited from more integration, especially between humans and Gungans. Why Star Wars includes brief political characters Todd says these characters show that life continues outside the main heroes. He connects this to how the franchise builds scale, realism, and background texture. News of the week: Star Wars: Starfighter Todd covers reporting that the new film was inspired by The Outsiders. He highlights the gritty, loyalty-driven tone and the pairing of a rugged older lead with a younger companion. News of the week: canceled Mandalorian versus Jedi game He reacts to the leaked gameplay and fan disappointment over another canceled Star Wars title. Todd compares it to other scrapped projects and laments how often promising games never release. News of the week: Ewan McGregor wants back in Todd discusses McGregor pitching ideas for more Obi-Wan content while on the set of Ahsoka. He suggests flashback storytelling could be a smart way to bring Obi-Wan into future projects. Cantina Chat: Fortnite and Fan Expo Chicago Todd talks about collecting 118 sprites in Fortnite and enjoying the new season called Override. He also shares a strong opinion that the Rosemont Convention Center is overcrowded and not as good as C2E2. A Mediocre Time with Tom and Dan — Episode Notes Episode: 888 - "Nuttin's Gon' Change, No One Does S***" (Friday free show) Hosts: Dan, Tom | Guest: comedian Ross McCoy Sponsors / Ad Reads My Eternal Vitality (Dr. Powers) — opening segment, interview with Andrea Dennis about her weight loss (down ~30 of a 40-lb goal), hormone replacement therapy, and microdosing GLP-1s since March; plans to stop in Sept/Oct. Jeff's Bagel Run — plugging the new limited-edition cucumber dill cream cheese; free bagel for downloading the app. Hollerbach's German Restaurant (Sanford) — pitched as a venue for fantasy football drafts ($30/person: beer, pretzels, charcuterie, dedicated draft TV); also books their "Night's Hall" for parties/events. Bearcat (promo code BDM420) — cannabis product ad. Segment Rundown Cold open / ad — Andrea Dennis interview on HRT and GLP-1 microdosing (see above). Show open — Ross McCoy intro'd as guest; bit about Ross shaving/mowing the lawn in the heat. Business/announcements — Studio "pinball meet and greet" event coming up (very limited tickets, announced last-minute); Andrew (the "pinball dude") adding more machines; Pizza Bruno sponsoring food, White Claw sponsoring drinks; framed as a fundraiser for a new app/website they're building. Tangent: lambskin condoms — Riff sparked by mishearing "chic" as a brand name; potted history of the "Sheik" condom brand (named after the 1921 Valentino film, marketed for disease prevention since birth-control marketing was illegal), plus a long bit about what lambskin condoms are actually made from. Voicemail: cousin Gary (from Texas) — Dale's older brother; called in after hearing Dale had called the show. Reminisced about Dan's late father and uncle Doug ("the funniest fuckers ever"), said Dan looks/sounds more like Uncle Doug than his own dad. Dan reflects on losing touch with Virginia family after his dad died, and on reconnecting now. Gary left a callback number and invited a visit/get-together. Health aside — Dan discusses recent heart workup: calcium score of zero, clean echo, no chamber enlargement — good news after some health scares that have him "rethinking a lot of relationships." News: Amelia Earhart — Discussion of the Nikumaroro Island "castaway theory" (a freckle-cream jar and heat-damaged glass found near an old campfire site); Purdue University's Legacy Institute sending an expedition to the island October 7, chasing a satellite anomaly thought to be her Lockheed Electra. Tangent: unsolved mysteries — MH370, giant rich-guy experimental planes that vanish, Alcatraz escapees (the "Escape from Alcatraz" pair), Billy the Kid death theories, ancient/pyramid conspiracy stuff, DB Cooper, and a long detour into Jeffrey Epstein death conspiracy theories — including the viral story about an Epstein-linked email tied to a Fortnite account ("Little St. Jeff1") that resurfaced in released files. Coal-mining oddities — Time-Life "Mysteries of the Unknown" book bit (frog found inside a lump of coal, petrified tree stump found underground); Centralia, PA mine fire mentioned as a real, "solved" phenomenon (not a mystery, just still burning). News: cemetery "niche" robberies — Three Central Florida suspects at large for breaking into cemetery niches (small mausoleum lockers holding cremains) and stealing ~$30,000 in jewelry/valuables. Long bit ranking this on a "scale of crimes" (near the bottom, close to victimless). Reddit story tangent — A woman discovered her late mother's belongings (rare rock-photography prints of Skynyrd, Tom Petty, etc.) being resold at Orlando's Thrift Con after her storage unit was auctioned off; she's trying to track down the buyer. Break plug — Ross McCoy's comedy show, "What Do You Want From Us" Moe Comedy Jam at the Funny Bone, October 17; tickets on sale "early next month." Caller: "Concrete Mike" — Grave-robbing story from his younger days selling magazines with a traveling group; friends back home (while he was on the road) robbed cemetery mausoleums for jewelry to fund LSD, made national news, several went to prison. Segues into a long string of acid-trip stories (Twister movie premiere, Walmart at 2:30am, etc.). Discussion: leaving Florida — Sparked by a BDM (fan community) thread; framed around Jordan Foley's farewell show that night at Will's Pub (moving to a small town near Nashville). Debate over whether people who don't actually use Florida's beaches/outdoors amenities should just move somewhere cheaper; examples cited include Dan's niece Daisy moving to Georgia, and general "normal American" suburban living not being tied to location once remote work is factored in. House-demolition story — Dan describes watching a neighboring house get fully demolished by an excavator crew in 58 minutes; tangent into the "McMansion" trend replacing old Florida houses on his street, and permit rules requiring a percentage of original walls to remain standing. Wrap-up / plugs — Teased "big" announcements (a possible at-sea event and a land-based event) to be revealed on Monday's BDM show (fan membership show, sign up at tomandan.com). Sign-off. Key Dates / Plugs Mentioned Tonight: Jordan Foley's farewell show, Will's Pub (~6:30–7:30pm), before his move near Nashville, TN. Tomorrow: Real Radio poker tournament (Dan playing). October 7: Purdue-led expedition departs for Nikumaroro Island (Amelia Earhart search). October 17: Ross McCoy's "What Do You Want From Us" comedy show at the Funny Bone (tickets on sale early Sept). Monday: BDM (fan club) show — event announcements plus continued "Mysteries of the Unknown" book bit. Upcoming ("next week" as of recording): Studio pinball meet-and-greet, sponsored by Pizza Bruno and White Claw. Notable Guests/Callers Andrea Dennis — on-couch interview guest (weight loss/HRT segment). Ross McCoy — in-studio guest, Orlando comedian. Gary (cousin from Texas, Dale's older brother) — voicemail. "Concrete Mike" — phone-in caller with the grave-robbing/acid story. ### Website: https://tomanddan.com/ App: https://tomanddan.com/app Become a BDM: https://tomanddan.com/registration Merch: https://tomanddan.myshopify.com/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@TomandDanLive Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/tomanddanlive Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/AMediocreTime Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/tomanddanlive/ X: https://x.com/TomAndDanLive TikTok: https://tiktok.com/@tomanddanlive Reddit: https://reddit.com/r/tomanddan ACT RSS: https://feeds.libsyn.com/61976/rss AMT RSS: https://feeds.libsyn.com/18904/rss
Welcome to The Chopping Block, where crypto insiders Haseeb Qureshi, Tom Schmidt, Tarun Chitra, and Robert Leshner chop it up about the latest in crypto. This week, crypto streamer and trading/markets influencer threadguy joins the crew to translate what is happening in the trenches, from market-open streams and social trading apps to public PnL and Gen Z's appetite for risk. The conversation starts with a challenge to crypto's old guard: today's lowest-cap markets look less like clicking a few ICOs and more like playing Fortnite with token scanners, wallet trackers, and social feeds all firing at once. From there, threadguy breaks down the fight between FOMO and Pump.fun, why the winner may be whoever owns the trader graph, and how one visible winning trade can turn an unknown wallet into a market-moving celebrity. Haseeb questions whether Robinhood has actually brought new money onchain, Tarun and Robert revisit the hidden counterparty risks of early crypto, and the group imagines a future in which AI agents launch protocols, raise capital, and transact without a human-facing interface. This week we return to a popular episode, originally published in Jan 2025, where Dr. Delaney dives into the world of Roblox and examines how in-game purchases impact young people, featuring insights from two young Roblox players and Mark Edwards, a therapist specializing in excessive video game use among teens. The episode explores the challenges of spending real money on virtual items in games like Roblox and Fortnite — think Robux or V-Bucks — and delves into key issues such as personal values, impulse control, financial literacy, and addiction. Suitable for both adults and teens, this episode also provides practical advice for parents on fostering conversations about digital spending and guiding their kids toward making more thoughtful financial decisions in the gaming world Guest: Mark Edwards, MS, MFT Additional Resources: Screenagers Website Bring Screenagers to Your Community Time Codes: 00:00 Introduction 01:04 Interview with Teen Roblox Players 04:35 Therapist's Perspective on Virtual Spending 06:35 Understanding Loot Boxes 10:19 Parental Guidance and Financial Literacy 15:55 Practical Tips for Parents 25:11 Conclusion and Resources

Welcome to Dev Game Club, where this week we begin a short mini-series on casual games, beginning with PopCap's Plants vs Zombies. We spend a lot of time setting these lower-challenge games both in their time and against other genres before talking a bit about the game itself. Dev Game Club looks at classic video games and plays through them over several episodes, providing commentary. Sections played: Through 2-1 Issues covered: setting the game in 2009, PopCap's fortunes, repackaging a genre, puzzly games in Java, appealing to core games and casual, being good at rewards, walled gardens, starting on desktops and moving to phones, phone fragmentation, A/B design testing, hidden objects, translating well to mobile, the history of EA's acquisitions, the early tower defense games, coining the term, automated elements, the stress of the RTS, MOBAs, removing the dev hurdles from a genre, modders doing something they could do, autochess, recognizing it, a simple concept that reads quickly, the impenetrable defense, turtling: the video game, the way zombie movies build, design ideas can come from anywhere, easily visualizing new things, archetypes, easily reading how much health is left, having a moment of joy in a reveal, seeing the zombie affordances, locking into strategies. Games, people, and influences mentioned or discussed: Batman: Arkham Asylum, Uncharted 2, Demons's Souls, Ratchet & Clank, Brutal Legend, Assassin's Creed II/series, Borderlands, Infamous, Dragon Age: Origins, Left 4 Dead 2, New Super Mario Bros Wii, Bayonetta, PS3/Xbox 360/Wii, EA, Peggle (series), Bejewelled, Blizzard, Zuma, Alchemy, Drop 7, Threes, Diner Dash, Resident Evil 4, Fortnite, Facebook, Farmville, Zynga, Kongregate, Ultima, Westwood, Bioware, Mass Effect, Crystal Dynamics, Morgan Gray, Desktop Defense, Atari, Rampart, Defense of the Agents, Warcraft III, Starcraft, League of Legends, Riot, Valve, George Fan, Diablo, PixelJunk Monsters, Orcs Must Die!!, Vermintide, Tower of Goo, The Birds, Tippi Hedren, Portal, Kirk Hamilton, Aaron Evers, Mark Garcia. d4vd has a music video where his character drags a body into a car. Prosecutors are now alleging he did that, for real, to a fourteen-year-old girl. We put the fictional version and the criminal allegation side by side. Before any of this, David Burke was a homeschooled kid recording songs on an iPhone in his sister's closet, building a following inside Fortnite lobbies. Prosecutors say that's also where he met Celeste Rivas Hernandez, when both were still teenagers, years before his career took off. Signed to Darkroom and Interscope at seventeen, Burke created an alter ego, Itami, meaning pain, an agent of chaos he described wearing a blindfold, a concept pulled from a manga about a detective whose alter ego commits the murders he solves. The comparison he used himself was Tyler Durden. His videos showed the character with a bloody knife and, in another, taking a woman's arm. The forensic case built during the preliminary hearing doesn't rely on any of that. A trace analyst matched cuts on a garage pool to fragments recovered on Celeste's leggings. DNA tied both the Tesla and the home to her. A criminalist described real blood scrubbed from the garage floor, feet from containers of fake blood. Cell tower records placed Burke's Tesla in Santa Barbara County three times after Celeste allegedly died. She was fourteen, went to his home on April 23, 2025, and was never heard from again. Her remains were found in the Tesla months later. Burke has pleaded not guilty to murder, illegal acts involving a minor, and mutilation of human remains. We walk through what the physical evidence actually shows. There's a music video where d4vd drags a body across the floor and loads it into a car. Prosecutors now allege he did the same thing his character did, to a fourteen-year-old girl, and that overlap is the thread running through everything else in this case. Before the fame, David Burke was a homeschooled teenager recording songs on an iPhone in his sister's closet, building an audience inside Fortnite lobbies. Prosecutors say that's also where he met Celeste Rivas Hernandez, years before either of them were adults, and the relationship kept going while no adult around either of them intervened. At seventeen, signed to Darkroom and Interscope, Burke created an alter ego called Itami, pain in Japanese, an agent of chaos wearing a blindfold, a concept he traced to a manga about a detective whose alter ego commits the murders he then has to solve. He compared it to Tyler Durden. The videos put a bloody knife and a severed arm on screen. Then the forensic testimony from the preliminary hearing. A trace analyst matched cuts on a garage pool to fragments on Celeste's clothing. DNA tied the Tesla and the home to her. A criminalist described blood scrubbed from the garage floor, steps from containers of fake blood. Cell tower records tracked Burke's Tesla to Santa Barbara County three separate times after she allegedly died. Celeste went to Burke's Hollywood Hills home on April 23, 2025. She was fourteen. Her remains were found in his Tesla months later. Burke has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder, illegal acts involving a minor, and mutilation of human remains. We go through the persona, the industry that profited from it, and the physical evidence now on the record.
