Is Christian life growing around you? In this podcast, Fr. Peter Armenio invites us to reflect upon the apostolate of attraction as the means by which we are to fulfill the Great Commission and lead others into a relationship with Christ. This type of apostolate, as old as the Gospel itself and encouraged by Pope Francis, begins by our faithful witness to the love of Christ: people need to see us as an oasis of joy and peace. It is our witness, only later accompanied by doctrine, that will prove the presence of Our Lord. ––––– Transcript: https://stjosemaria.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Apostolate-of-Attraction-Transcript.pdf ––––– THANK YOU FOR LISTENING! At the height of Adolf Hitler's reign, German theologian, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, created an underground seminary for Jesus followers who opposed the church's complicity with Nazi control. It was within this distressing context that Bonhoeffer penned these words in his book, Life Together: “The greatest threat to Christian community is our expectation of some wishful idealized version of it… Those who love their dream of a Christian community more than the Christian community itself become destroyers of that Christian community.” In the United States today, we do not live under fascist control or in the thick of genocide, but our country appears to be more polarized and divided than ever. Do the words of Bonhoeffer deliver any hope for the American church today? And what does the book of Acts have to say about unity among believers? Is Christian unity even possible in our divided country? (Spoiler: we believe it absolutely is. Listen to this week of Acts Verse by Verse to discover how.)
Is Christian "over dependence" a sin? In 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12 Paul tells us that we as Christians are to "...work with your hands as we instructed you, so that you may walk properly before outsiders and be dependent on no one". Paul made tents to support himself and took support from the church as secondary. We as Christians are called to be dependent on God first and foremost and when we really and truly need it, to be dependent on the body of Christ for the essentials in life. Tune in with Host Steven Garofalo to hear more about over dependence being a SIN in the body of Christ. Please consider a 5-START Review in iTunes and SUBSCRIBE-that would be greatly apprecaited.
Is there a better way to celebrate Valentine's Day than by watching a movie about a toxic relationship trying to survive a cult and their ritualistic practices? Probably notIt is very hard to describe Midsommar. Unsettling, frightening, unusual, maybe even funny at points. Is there a Swedish word for all those things? We discussed the following: 1. Is Christian the worst movie boyfriend of all time? 2. How much would you pay for the iconic May Queen Dress? 3. Hereditary or Midsommar, which film do you prefer? 4. In the beginning of part 2 of "Is The Prodigal Woke" Michael and Tyler lead off the discussion with the question "Is Christian freedom slipping away from American culture?" The Bible says that those "who desire to live a godly live will be persecuted" and it seems like we are moving that direction in America now. Culture is changing and with it, people are more openly oppressing Christian's here in the States! Is this what we have to look forward to in the coming years? Joshua Sherman then takes the wheel and we examine true discipleship. We begin with what it means to bear "good fruit" in evangelism and whether one should focus on themselves primarily and their own progress or other's. In other words, do we remove the speck from our eye first or neglect ourselves to help other's remove their own log? Tyler then reads Psalm 51 and the guys wrap up this episode with humility. We see our need for a Savior in the "low" times and when we feel broken. Yet, this is the time we NEED to look toward Christ, this is the time we NEED God. You are not to "dirty" to go to the Lord! Like the prodigal...come back to our Father! Practical humility and discipleship are the focus of this discussion over all so please, join us in this final part of our two part episode "Is The Prodigal Woke?" God bless!
Greetings All,This is a difficult question to think about, a harder question to raise publicly and, of course, a painful question to try and answer. However, it is also a vital question that we believe we all need to wrestle with as the Church stands at a crossroads of unparalleled opportunity. Are you aware of the urgent need for division - the kind of division found in the pages of the New Testament and that moves us all toward truth and faithfulness?Of course, pain, division, separation and drama aren't the end goals of breaking fellowship; rather, truth, salvation and sanctification are what we're all longing for.But enough is enough of agreeing to disagree. We trust that you also see the profoundly urgent need of discernment regarding who it is that’s in right standing with God - who is genuine - and who is not.Who is it that’s speaking truth? We can’t all be.Make no mistake, Christian discipleship is being profoundly clarified on our watch. Questions for Reflection:Does it stand to reason, let alone biblical study, that Christians have theological beliefs that are diametrically opposed?Does it ever matter? Or should we just agree to disagree? What might the consequences of this commonplace “solution” be?What do Paul’s words in 1 Corinthians 11:18-19 say to you about the national church of Great Britain, the international context AND your own personal context? Why do you think it is that division/separation is such a touchy issue for many Christians when it is so clear that Jesus is coming at the end of the age precisely to divide? Is “Christian unity” really “Christian unity” when these serious differences are tolerated? Will God really bless that which is not genuine?"For, in the first place, when you come together as a church, I hear that there are divisions among you. And I believe it in part, for there must be factions among you in order that those who are genuine among you may be recognised." (1 Corinthians 11:18-19).Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity! It is like the precious oil on the head, running down on the beard, on the beard of Aaron, running down on the collar of his robes! It is like the dew of Hermon, which falls on the mountains of Zion! For there the LORD has commanded the blessing, life forevermore." (Psalm 133).If you would like to help support this podcast and the wider work we're pioneering, we would be very grateful as we increasingly find ourselves at capacity in more ways than one. In this episode of the Building Us podcast, co-hosts Erik Garcia, CFP® and Dr. Matt Morris, LPC, LMFT interview Janine Crum, Certified Enneagram Coach, and Christian Moore, CVO of Real Good Group and Co-Founder of Agent Refined. Janine and Christian share their knowledge and expertise about the Enneagram and how it can be applied to your daily life.Episode Highlights:Erik introduces Janine Crum and Christian Moore. (1:58)Janine shares her background and her career. (2:16)Christian shares his background and his career. (2:47)Erik shares a quick story about how he met Christian Moore. (3:13)Erik mentions that he and Christian exchanged many ideas together, and Christian has been an influence in his life and his business. (3:23)What is the Enneagram? (3:58)Janine shares that Enneagram is a tool for personal development and personal growth that not only helps you identify yourself but how you operate within the bigger picture of the people in the world around you. (4:19)Christian shares that by taking the Enneagram test, and by reading and understanding the differences and nuances of your key motivations and fears, you could discover which tool fits for you. (5:15)Christian mentions one of the things that they learned about Enneagram is that your personality is not who you are. Rather, it’s a mechanism that you've learned over time, to deal with certain stresses and failures. (5:27)Erik mentions that the word Enneagram comes from the Greek word Ennéa, meaning Nine. (6:53)Janine explains the first to the fourth personality types. (7:33)Could Janine and Christian give them a high-level summary connection or organization for understanding some of the numbers, and how they can relate to it? (8:23)Janine mentions the set of the triad which is the heart, the head, the gut. (8:49)Janine explains the general breakdown and the corresponding personality types on each triad. (8:59)Is there an emphasis on the weakness, and what’s the remedy for it? (11:23)Janine shares that she’s good at understanding emotions and understanding other people's emotions, and dig down deep but that can also have a shadow side for her. Therefore, every type has something that they do well but could also hold them back. (11:43)Christian mentions that you take on different characteristics to adapt to your environment, and what you need to do to understand your actual type is to find your core fears, then the key motivations. (12:43)Janine mentions that most people miss type themselves in the beginning until they begin to tackle and see an overview of all the types. (13:10)Is Christian a vengeful person? (13:49)Christian mentions one of the things that he loves about the Enneagram is that it presupposes the spiritual being. (13:55)Christian shares that it's very difficult to believe in the Enneagram without believing in the concept of a spirit or soul. (14:29)Janine explains the Enneagram Symbol. (18:32)Janine mentions one of the cardinal rules about the Enneagram. (24:51)Christian mentions that the core fear is feeling fear itself of actually being afraid, or being without support security. (27:05)Matt mentions that an Enneagram is a tool for understanding yourself, understanding your worldview, and understanding your relationship with other people. (31:28)How has the Enneagram helped in Janine and Christian’s relationship? (32:44)Janine mentions that the Enneagram has single-handedly been the element that has grown her marriage, more than anything. (32:56)Janine talks about the Enneagram Institute. (35:05)Janine thinks that the Enneagram gave their marriage a direction on how to continue to grow. (35:44)Christian mentions that his introduction to his Enneagram path started in business, but it has been beneficial for his marriage, as well. (40:45)Christian shares that the aspect of type nine is that they understand every other number on the Enneagram better than they understand themselves. (44:48)Janine shares that there’s a common saying amongst the Enneagramers that, the enneagram is neither a sword nor a shield. (45:55)Does the Enneagram understand our number, our type, and our personality as being persistent, or as being malleable? (50:00)Does our number change depend on who we're among? (50:22)Christian mentions that you were formed by the personality types of your parents, and how they are. (53:22)Erik shares that having this conversation and trying to understand themselves, understand their blind spots, becoming more self-aware of how they got out of that posture, and talking through it in this context of personality, is the true value. (56:27)Christian thinks that the Enneagram helps him see a person’s skill or natural ability. (59:29)Janine shares that the growth part of the Enneagram is that you realize your strengths but you make them stronger by understanding that they inhabit your weakness. (1:00:33)Christian thinks that there's a difference between humanity and a person’s thought. (1:01:23)Janine thinks that as you're moving forward in your Enneagram journey, the best practical advice is to just keep going. Don’t stop because as you're reading, you come against something that you don't like about your type. (1:07:31)Christian mentions one of the things that’s unique about the Enneagram is that there are levels of maturity. (1:08:22)Key Quotes:“It’s not just, you take a test, and you're this thing. You take a test if you want, and discover more of who you are, how you're naturally gifted, and how that helps the conversation with people around you, as well.” - Janine Crum“Just because one type is more introverted or extroverted doesn't mean you can't do those things. So again, it's about self-awareness and being able to use this awareness as a tool to love and, and take care of others ideally.” - Christian Moore“Everybody has that core fear and then they have this core desire and we use our personalities to run from that core fear and achieve that core desire.” - Janine Crum“If I understand my team better and what motivates them from fear, what motivates them from love, and I can communicate that way, then I can be a better leader.” - Christian Moore“I think the key is that knowing yourself matters. So maybe more important than what you're improving on is making sure that you are self-aware, and seeing yourself clearly.” - Christian MooreResources Mentioned:Erik Garcia, CFP®Dr. Matt Morris, LPC, LMFTGarcia Financial GroupMatt Morris & AssociatesJanine Crum InstagramChristian Moore LinkedInReal Good GroupAgent Refined

It's always a treat to talk to Dr. Iwan Russell-Jones––and today’s podcast is no exception! Iwan spent 25 years as a TV and radio producer and director for the BBC before joining Regent's faculty as the Eugene and Jan Peterson Associate Professor of Theology and the Arts. Iwan is a passionate advocate for the importance of the arts in theological conversations, arguing that every generation and culture has to wrestle with the question of how the arts fit into the life of the church in that particular time and place. Is “Christian art” a real thing? Will artists see the fruit of their labour? Is Regent's Integrative Project in Arts & Theology better a thesis? Iwan has the answers. Faith is awe-inspiring in its transformative power, reassuring in its calming ability and provides powerful contentment as we apply it daily. Faith is also one of the most misunderstood, misrepresented and maligned aspects in all Christianity. It is too easily confused with ignorant hope, and as a result, is easily dismissed by its detractors as a little fantasy in the limited minds of those who are believers. What is faith – really? How does it work? Is Christian faith the same as having trust in other people? Does it equate to the kind of trust you would have in a doctor or an attorney to act in your best interest? Are we given Christian faith as a gift or is it something that we have to develop? To see how it actually works, it is important to pause and consider what faith is not. It is not gullibility. It is not wishful thinking. It is not emotional euphoria, and it is not magically planted into one’s heart and mind. These four things are what so many believe it to be, and they could not be further from the truth. On the contrary, faith IS belief based on evidence - not wishful thinking - but evidence. It does spur one on to hope based on that belief and is grounded on understanding and reason rather than emotion. Faith brings trust, and trust changes lives. There are Scriptures that tell us faith is a gift. This seems to imply that you don’t have to do anything except receive this gift and let your life be transformed. If only it was that easy! There are three basic phases to its development. The first phase is being acquainted, and this is where the gift comes into play. Someone gives us the gift of introducing us to “the faith.” Our eyes can now be open to understanding the basics of the gospel. This gift brings us to a place of thinking and questions, and it encourages us to pursue the answers. This phase can be exciting, if acted upon, as the newness and broad message of love the gospel carries begins to be revealed. Here we have an opportunity to decide whether we are "pleased to make faith’s acquaintance" or would rather just move on in life without it. There is a problem with faith. It will not flourish unless it is provoked to grow beyond the acquaintance stage. Unfortunately, many people who make faith's acquaintance end up living their Christian lives content to have been introduced and take it no further. In this condition, faith more and more relies upon feelings to keep it relevant, and that is a formula for failure. Check out our October 8, 2018 podcast, “How Does Faith Actually Work?” As we mentioned earlier, there are three phases through which faith must grow for it to be the life-changing attribute it is capable of becoming. Knowing these three phases can help us find the keys to living - truly living - our faith!

In our first podcast of 2018, we catch you up on how we spent our holiday break, announce some spectacular events and tours, take a page from Joshua's book to learn how to conquer new territory in the new year, and discuss the divisiveness of denominations by answering the question, "Is Christian enough?"
In this meditation from Fr. Peter Armenio, priest of Opus Dei, we are invited to reflect upon the “apostolate of attraction” as the means by which we are to fulfill the Great Commission and lead others into relationship with Jesus Christ. This type of apostolate, as old as the Gospel itself and encouraged by Pope Francis, begins by our faithful witness to the love of Christ: “people need to see us as oases of joy and peace.” It is our witness, only later accompanied by doctrine, that will prove that Jesus is real. “Whenever sanctity is genuine, it overflows from its vessel to fill other hearts, other souls, with its superabundance. We, the children of God, sanctify ourselves by sanctifying others. Is Christian life growing around you? Consider this every day.” St. Josemaria Escrive; The Forge, no. 856 Before our Lord sent the Apostles out into the world, he gave them the new commandment of love, instructing them to remain united with him and replicate his heart. Despite any obstacles and difficulties they would face, Jesus promised them that in following this commandment, they would succeed in sharing the Gospel, since it would be him acting through them. This remains true for us still today; if we remain united to his heart and participate in his life, others will come to know him through our love. ______________________________________________________________________ THANK YOU FOR LISTENING! Explore the broad definition of evangelism or "communicating the gospel". The audience is to believers, unbelievers, and to all. The intent is to teach and invoke faith, praise, and worship. Consider, should sermons be evangelistic? Is worship evangelistic? Is Christian living evangelistic? The answer is “Yes!” because all Christian action is "evangelistic" in this sense. Explore the narrow(er) definition of evangelism or “communicating the gospel with unbelievers for the purpose of gaining faith”. This definition includes a call to repentance and faith. Not all Christian action is “evangelistic” in this sense (and that’s ok!). The Gospel can be consider both by a broad definition and narrow definition. Consider Galatians 2:14, “But when I saw that their conduct was not in step with the truth of the gospel, I said to Cephas before them all, ‘If you, though a Jew, live like a Gentile and not like a Jew, how can you force the Gentiles to live like Jews?’”
Welcome to The Shaun Tabatt Show! In this episode I speak with Tom Doyle about his book Standing in the Fire: Courageous Christians Living in Frightening Times. Here are the questions Tom and I discuss in the interview: First off Tom, let's help the listeners get to know you a bit better. Tell us the elevator pitch version of the Tom Doyle origin story. (00:39 - 02:49) Next tell us how you and your wife JoAnn first got started working in the MIddle East. (02:50 - 04:44) One needs to simply turn on the television or access social media to find news of terrorism and the persecution of Christians taking place all across the globe. From your vantage point, is it as bad as the news suggests or is it far worse? (04:45 - 06:55) Tom, introduce us to some of the Christian's we're going to encounter in the pages of Standing in the Fire and share a few of their stories with us. (06:56 - 11:17) How do Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego serve as an example for what it looks like for followers of Christ to stand courageously for their faith rather than merely surviving in a climate of fear? (11:18 - 13:14) Is Christian persecution coming to the U.S.? (13:15 - 15:40) How should American Christians respond to the global persecution of Christians? (15:41 - 18:37) What do you think has been the greatest trial for you personally in spending so much time in the Middle East. (18:38 - 20:23) Tom, as you think of readers getting to the final page of Standing in the Fire, what do you most hope they take away from interacting with your book? (20:24 - 25:59) Tom, I know many of my listeners are going to want to find out more, so tell us where we can connect with you online and get our own copy of Standing in the Fire? (26:00 - 27:49) About the Book: Followers of Christ need to relearn what it means to stand courageously for their faith rather than merely survive in a climate of fear. Instead of motivating believers to action, today's headlines appear to be paralyzing them. Standing in the Fire demonstrates the church triumphant through the lives of people who stood strong and didn't run away in the face of overwhelming danger. These Middle Eastern heroes of faith fear God more than terrorist groups like ISIS. Supported by Tom Doyle's commentary on events, the stories included show how these Christians are not living as victims, but victors in Christ. In John 14:6, Jesus says that he is the way, the truth, and the life, and that no man can come to the Father except by him. Does that mean Christian exclusivity to heaven or was it a broader message of redemption and reconciliation to believers of his message? Recently, Dr. Robert Jeffress, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Dallas and Trump supporter, stated that Ghandi and others like him are destined for hell because of non-faith in Jesus Christ. Is Christian faith required to spend an eternity in heaven or hell? What role does good works play in the faith of Christian believers? Join Pastor Neal for these and other topics on Zera Today

Simone Biles broke two world records and tied Kim Zmeskal's record for three consecutive national titles. © Christy Linder 2015 National Champion, Laurie Hernandez, teammate 2014 National Champion Jazmyn Foberg, Texas Dreams superstar Ragan Smith and new national team member Sydney Johnson-Scharpf joined us for a live video broadcast on Periscope. Periscope only archives broadcasts for 24 hours but our video will be uploaded to YouTube soon. We asked them what they were most proud of this weekend, new skills, nicknames, Sydney's balance beam crash in warm-ups and what their national team theme song should be for 2015. After the kids went out to party, national team coaches Christian Gallardo and Aimee Boorman joined us. Christian coached Nia Dennis at Buckeye Gymnastics and now coaches Shilese Jones and Olympic all-around champion Gabrielle Douglas. Aimee Boorman is the lifelong coach of two time world champion, Simone Biles. We discussed: The Gabby Douglas strategy, is she playing it safe and waiting to upgrade until she absolutely needs to? We think that would be smart. But is she top three on any even right now. Christian and Aimee explain, "Brestyan's Legs" a plyometric leg circuit that gives Aly ligaments of steel. Know we know why she hasn't blown out her knees one million times! How they handle the NBC cameras and microphones that might catch conversations they don't want on air. Why Simone and other gymnasts won't do triple twisting doubles or double double dismount on beam especially when there is no one touch in event finals. Do Gabby and Aly Raisman coming back to the national team change the dynamic of the team at all? Is Christian on Gabby's television show, Douglas Family Gold. Aimee and Christian told us how they started gymnastics, who they were most impressed with at championships, their favorite leotards and leotard designers, what rules in the code bother them the most. Thoughts on their athlete's use of social media, for example, Ask FM. A full explanation about the wolf turn trend and why everyone does them, even though 99% of them are hideous. They propose a deduction for excessive turn preparation pause. The time Simone tried to kill Aimee by rolling like a bowling ball into her ribs on the podium. What they think about the NCAA recruiting rules, and Marta retiring. The day Christian, who is not Simone's coach, knew that Simone was special, when Marta read her the riot act and Simone gave her the most honest and innocent Which gymnast would be most likely to score a 10 under this code? If camp was the Hunger Games which coach would win? Their thoughts on how fast gymnastics is progressing and the weight of difficulty versus execution in the code of points. Finally an explanation for the reason for the splatfest in prelims from Aimee's mom. Christian Gallardo is on Twitter thanks to our Periscope viewers who met Christian's heart challenge! You guys made this happen! Make sure to follow him. Aimee Boorman is also on Twitter, where you can ask you about her Game of Thrones and Jon Snow theories. Get video of every routine, photos and results from the 2015 P&G Championships. We recapped the senior women's championships with Jessica, Lauren Hopkins, Cordelia Price, Dvora Meyers, Jennifer Lacopelli and Amy Scherer. We discussed: Score analysis and info straight from Karolyi herself. There is a stick bonus in place but it's added to the difficulty score not the execution score. Execution scores had no bonus here. Marta said that Brenna Dowell and Ashton Locklear would be invited to the Worlds selection camp because they might be needed as specialists. Scratches from the meet including injuries to Alyona Shchennikova , Amelia Hundley, and Madison Desch. The Kyla Situation : is it a lack of training on hard surfaces, endurance or the fact that her feet hit the mat on bars when she taps, that's holding her back from her normal performance. She hasn't missed an elite season in seven years. She's amazing! She will be fine. Everyone can shut it! Simone Biles the potentially greatest gymnast of all time, broke another world record with a 9.9 execution score on vault in day two. We debate what wild fictional scenario could ever throw her off her game: a sharknado, a bee, or Zack Efron. Bailie Key the silent ninja in her black ring master leotard costume The wolf turn is worth too much and can't be deducted enough. It's time for a change, Nellie Kim! Madison Kocian, the 2015 national bars champion, how she should prepare for the future and world's selection camp in order to contribute on more than one event. Brenna Dowell, adult, and her coaches on what giving her space vs. blowing them off looks like. 160: PG Championships Women's Prelims Recap 159: 2015 Championships Preview Show 156: Pan Am Games Event Finals and Secret Classic Preview Secret Classic: What Does Success Here Mean 106: Biles and Ross Dominate the 2014 US Secret Classic 2014 Senior Secret Classic Competition Photo Gallery 2014 Junior Secret Classic Competition Photo Gallery Photo Gallery of Podium Training at the 2014 Secret Classic 105: Chicago Secret Classic Preview, Cuba is Back & Nadia Promotes Adult Gymnastics Episode 42: The 2013 Secret US Classic from Chicago Episode 41: Laurie Hernandez & Coach Maggie Haney Episode 9: Chellsie Memmel, Swiss Cup & FIG Presidential Proposals 148: Shannon Miller Episode 28: Kristen Maloney Episode 31: Elise Ray Episode 33: Simone Biles & Her Coaches Episode 48: Kyla Ross 77: Aly Raisman A scrapbook from the recording of episode 161 on Periscope. Is Christian evangelism just a matter of “selling a product” called the Gospel of Jesus Christ? How might that approach to the Church’s mission be “enthusiasm”? (Uh, what’s that?) Pr. Andrew Preus discusses his article, “Market-Style Evangelism,” and how it’s better to be limited by the ways that God gives in His Word. Read Pr. … Continue reading Market-Style Evangelism →
Test of Faith is an initiative aimed at showing that Christian faith and good science are perfectly compatible. As the Tour reaches london on 19th May we ask "Do we need God, now that we have science?" Denis Alexander is a biologist from the Faraday Insititute in Cambridge. As a Christian he believes that his science coheres with and supports his faith. Stephen Law of the Royal Institute of Philosophy believes that science together with philosophy can be used to refute the existence of God. They discuss Evolution, the problem of evil, the God of the Gaps, the cosmological and fine tuning arguments for the existence of God and more besides. As we continue in our study of the Biblical concept of labor, property, and value, many questions arise. Is Christian socialism legitimate? How do we define value? The Bible clearly teaches that we are to labor, so how does the Bible relate to modern day economics? How we answer these questions determines how our society prospers.
