The Essential Oil Revolution –– Aromatherapy, DIY, and Healthy Living w/ Samantha Lee Wright
What You Will Learn: Why it's important to understand the traditional use of plants and herbs. What shamanic medicine is and why it should be respected. The importance of the study of ethnobotany in keeping alive traditional people's botanical and cultural knowledge, spiritual heritage, and reverence for the earth. Dr. Z's journey into ethnobotany and how that led him to also pursue his expertise in naturopathic and botanical medicine and herbalism. How Dr. Z combines his apprenticeship with Shamans in Jamica with his research and clinical experience to keep alive their customs and document their insights. How modern herbalists, like Dr. Z, are validating the teachings of ancient herbalists and physicians through their research analysis of plants' biochemical properties, compounds, and their standardization. What the doctrine of signatures is and what it reveals about plants. Some of Dr. Z's favorite plants and essential oils from Jamica and their actions including allspice oil, clove oil, bitter melon, Jamaican dogwood, ginger herb and oil, rosemary herb and oil, Guinea Hen Weed, and Lignum vitatae. How essential oils are extracted in Jamica using modern distillation and rudimentary methods. Combining essential oils and other herbs for synergistic effects, such as cinnamon oil with bitter melon for balancing blood sugar. How natural remedies do not just suppress symptoms, rather, they aim to correct the underlying imbalance as they offer “side benefits.” Why “weed” is a bad word and how all plants possess medicinal properties. Dr. Z's favorite DIY with essential oils. The closing questions: (1) What Dr. Z does daily for self-care and why everyone should consider it, (2) What we should do to better our own health and reconnect with the planet. You can find Dr. Z at http://www.drznaturally.com/. Zaradi svoje uporabnosti so postala nepogrešljiv pripomoček v zapletenih optičnih sistemih: omogočajo nam spremljanje prometa v jutranji konici, parabolična zrcala pa boljšo vidljivost v nepreglednem križišču.
In our season one finale, we bring it all home by discussing rest. In our #FireStarter we celebrate the Black women athletes currently catching hell for being the best at what they do, and having the audacity to need a break. We can all relate to being productive to the point of exhaustion, but do we all know how to get rest? Jamica gives us some game on expanding our understanding and framing of rest, and how important and impactful it is to your ability to function at your best. Hint: It ain't just a nap y'all! And, before we let you go, we share our own “rest wins” of the year.

"Marcus Garvey was a proponent of the Black Nationalism and Pan-Africanism movements, inspiring the Nation of Islam and the Rastafarian movement. Social activist Marcus Mosiah Garvey, Jr. was born on August 17, 1887, in St. Ann's Bay, Jamica. Self-educated, Garvey founded the Universal Negro Improvement Association, dedicated to promoting African-Americans and resettlement in Africa. In the United States he launched several businesses to promote a separate black nation. After he was convicted of mail fraud and deported back to Jamaica, he continued his work for black repatriation to Africa. Marcus Mosiah Garvey was the last of 11 children born to Marcus Garvey, Sr. and Sarah Jane Richards. His father was a stone mason, and his mother a domestic worker and farmer. Garvey, Sr. was a great influence on Marcus, who once described him as "severe, firm, determined, bold, and strong, refusing to yield even to superior forces if he believed he was right." His father was known to have a large library, where young Garvey learned to read" (http://www.biography.com/people/marcus-garvey-9307319#awesm=~oGP6uyhVqG3DuG).
