In this episode I was delighted to speak with Luke Murray, an incredible physiotherapist who has such a refreshing and holistic approach to how best to manage and treat pain and injury. We talked about when and how we can judge if it is wise to push through pain, why it is important to move our bodies, learning to trust our bodies, even if we have been neglecting them for a while and why being overweight, in and of itself, is never a good enough reason for a diagnosis. And he answers some of your questions! Luke also shared his own really interesting story with injury and pain as a younger man, his fascinating work as a physio and his decision to then study medicine. Luke's Instagram page is full of brilliant information and details of how to contact him. Thanks so much Luke, it was a pleasure to hear your knowledge and words of wisdom. UConn Overcomes Slow Start in Big Win Over East Texas A&M

The UConn Huskies cruised to an 81-46 victory over East Texas A&M, but the game wasn't as smooth as the final score suggests. UConn's slow starts are becoming a habit, and tonight was no exception. Turnovers and sloppy play early on limited their scoring, even as the Huskies tried to find their rhythm. Despite the bumps, standout performances from Alex Karaban, Liam, and Solo Ball carried the team, with Hass Diarra emerging as an unexpected leader. A big takeaway? The challenge of balancing immense talent without a clear alpha dog. The Huskies are creating plenty of great plays but often lack the finishing touch as they figure out their roles in a system designed for cohesion. Let's break it all down. Show Notes Segment 1: Slow Start Struggles • UConn continues to start games sluggishly, a concerning trend.• Early turnovers and sloppy possessions set the tone.• Solo Ball hit an early 3, and Liam showcased his spin-cycle moves, but it wasn't enough to spark immediate momentum.• Dan Hurley's strategy against zone defenses helped limit ETAM's opportunities, but UConn struggled to capitalize offensively.• Samson Johnson stood out early with solid defense, while frustration grew from missed rotations and lack of urgency. Segment 2: Leadership Moments and Adjustments • Hass Diarra stepped up big, showing leadership during critical moments and sparking energy when UConn needed it most.• Dan Hurley's interactions with players and even the referees kept the intensity high, with some comedic relief when he jokingly engaged with Luke Murray.• Jayden Ross (JayRoss) found his stride, hitting a wide-open 3 after slowing down and focusing—something the young players need to do more consistently.• Samson Johnson's vocal leadership shined as he held younger players accountable for defensive rotations. Segment 3: The Talent Balance Challenge • From the 13-minute mark to 9:34, UConn played atypical, non-UConn basketball—scattered and lacking cohesion.• The biggest takeaway: UConn has a wealth of talent but lacks a clear senior leader or alpha player to rally around.• Players are searching for their roles in a system that doesn't prioritize individual features, leading to impressive plays without consistent finishes.• Despite this, Alex Karaban, Liam, Solo Ball, and Hass Diarra continue to stand out as bright spots through the first four games. Key Takeaways1. UConn must address its slow starts before tougher competition.2. Leadership is emerging in unexpected places, particularly from Hass Diarra and Samson Johnson.3. The team's depth is a blessing and a challenge; roles need to solidify for smoother execution. Closing ThoughtsThe Huskies showed their strength tonight with an 81-46 win, but as the season ramps up, finding consistency and defining roles will be key to success. Stay tuned for more insights as UConn continues to refine their game. Go Huskies!

We'll discuss the impact of Mullins' decision, what this means for UConn's future, and how Hurley's recruiting strategy continues to pay off. In Segment 2, we'll dive into the Big East's dominance and Hurley's strong words during Media Day, making it clear that UConn—and the Big East—deserves more respect on the national stage. We close the show by taking a deep dive into a fantastic piece by Michael Rosenberg from Sports Illustrated about UConn's unique success rooted in Storrs' culture. It's not about flash; it's about grit, hard work, and a relentless focus on basketball. Show Notes: • Segment 1: Braylon Mullins Commits to UConn• Mullins, a 6'5” combo guard from Greenfield, Indiana, chose UConn over Indiana and Michigan.• Mullins joins Darius Adams and Eric Reibe, giving UConn a top-tier recruiting class.• Luke Murray and Dan Hurley sold all three players on the idea of building the best class in the country—and now they've done it.• Discussion with Dan Meehan about the excitement of this trio and the bright future of UConn basketball.• Segment 2: Big East is the Best Conference• Dan Hurley's strong words at Big East Media Day: “People that lay claim to being the best basketball conference in the country without championship trophy evidence of natties…we've got four in the last eight years and back-to-back.”• The Big East's dominance with nine national championships since 2000, leading all conferences.• UConn's role as the powerhouse of the Big East and how Hurley wants more respect for the conference.• Hurley's frustrations with last year's NCAA seeding and the lack of national recognition for the Big East.• Segment 3: UConn's Success Rooted in Storrs' Unique Culture• Discussion on Michael Rosenberg's Sports Illustrated article, which captures how Storrs' small-town charm and culture of hard work have produced two dominant basketball programs.• Key quotes from the article, including Hurley's statement: “No one picks UConn for the wrong reasons.”• Auriemma and Hurley's approach to recruiting—focusing on players who value basketball and hard work over glitz and glamour.• How Storrs, despite its sleepy setting, has become the Basketball Capital of the World.

Discover the secrets behind their roster construction strategy, which balances transfers and returning players to maintain team culture. The team has shifted to a motion-heavy, read-and-react system that emphasizes off-ball movement and efficient scoring. The integration of data-driven strategies has turned UConn into an offensive powerhouse, with a significant portion of their shots coming from high-efficiency zones. This transformation has not only made UConn's games more aesthetically pleasing but has also contributed to their dominance on the court. **Segment 3: Challenges and Opportunities for the Upcoming Season** As UConn prepares for the upcoming season, the team faces the challenge of maintaining its defensive prowess while integrating new talent. With key players like Donovan Klingon and others moving on, the focus will be on how returning players and newcomers can fill these gaps. The podcast discusses the potential of players like Alex Karaban, Samson Johnson, and Hassan Diarra to step up and lead the team. “I think you should listen to your heart as quickly as possible,” says today's guest, Dr. Luke Murray, when asked for advice for students and early career professionals. He calls this skill ‘listening to your heart faster' and it's a principle that's guided him on a zigzagging career path, from an interest in neurosurgery, to working in global health, to starting a tech incubator.  As COVID was getting underway, he unexpectedly found himself building what became a very large COVID testing effort at Wild Health, a precision medicine company based in Kentucky.  Now as COVID appears to be winding down, Dr. Murray is listening to his testing customers to determine next steps. Listen in as Dr. Murray tells host Shiv Gaglani about both the successes and failures in his entrepreneurial journey -- including sleeping in a garage and showering at the YMCA -- to then “drowning” in opportunity and conducting over a million COVID tests and 150,000 vaccinations. Plus, hear his valuable advice for future entrepreneurs.Mentioned in this episode:https://www.wildhealth.comhttps://www.awesomeinc.org
