Today I visit and walk with British photographer Mark Seymour, who made his name as an award-winning wedding photographer. However, his passion for photography as a medium led him beyond the wedding aisle and onto the streets of the world, where he now documents culture, tradition, and the human experience through travel, documentary photography and workshops. In this episode of The Photowalk, we talk about his transition from weddings to reportage, the power of visual storytelling, and Ronnie's Story, a deeply personal and important body of work that not only changed Mark as a photographer but also brought vital awareness to dementia. Links to all guests and features will be on the showpage, my sincere thanks to MPB who sponsor this show and the Extra Milers without whom we wouldn't be walking each week. For this episode of the Data Center Frontier Show podcast, we welcome Mark Seymour, Distinguished Engineer with Cadence Design Systems, for a discussion of the big question on everyone's mind right now in this industry: data center power demand and where it's going in the context of rapid digitalization and exponential growth of HPC and AI computing needs, and how that compares and contrasts, or even conflicts, with increasing environmental concerns and regulations.  The conversation also highlights the importance of digital twins for managing data center efficiency and the advantages of liquid cooling technology, and particularly immersion cooling, as a sustainable alternative to traditional methods. In the course of our interview, Seymour also emphasizes the data center industry's responsiveness to societal demands for sustainability, citing initiatives such as ubiquitous tree planting by project developers, and the need to adapt to new technological challenges. Here's a timeline of the podcast's key moments: 2:59 - Seymour explains that AI is essentially high-performance computing, which is now required in many data centers that previously did not need it. 12:05 - Addressing the challenges and potential of immersion cooling technology: Emphasizing its growing acceptance, but also the need for confidence in its operation. 17:52 - Talk turns to the importance of digital twins in ultimately managing data center efficiency, with Seymour highlighting the necessity for understanding the interrelated behaviors of IT infrastructure and cooling systems. 24:18 - Discussion circles back to immersion cooling as a sustainable option for data centers, with Seymour expounding on its advantages over traditional cooling methods. 27:44 - Seymour elaborates on the improvements in compute efficiency per watt in modern systems, arguing that the data center industry is responding and adapting to societal demands, rather than being inherently unsustainable. 30:42 - Seymour acknowledges the industry's focus on sustainability and environmental impact, citing examples such Cadence's tree planting initiatives and the ongoing challenge of meeting new technological demands. Ever listen to a song and wonder, 'what's this song about?'. Best we throw that question to the songsmith himself, shall we? Mark Seymour is back for yet another banter about life. Life as a rock musician, and life as a human. We meander through the corridors of Mark's musician mind and explore the creative process behind what he refers to as the dark art of songwriting and how stories are weaved and received through his music. We talk a little about the beast that was Hunters & Collectors (since I'm reading Mark's biography, Thirteen Tonne Theory as we speak) and what life was, and is, really like beneath what one might have assumed would be a tight knit family of sorts. Beyond the music and gigging we talk about life and the humanness we all experience (yep, even rock stars). Like what is living well and living successfully? Are they the even same thing? The minefield of understanding and navigating relationships along the way. What even is love? Who can we really trust? Do we all feel shame about something? Oh yeah and with all the punches I've been landing on the good lad lately, be rude not to talk a little bit of boxing too... Episode 41 of The Blank Canvas Podcast with Sean Sennett. Sean Sennett is one of talented and curious characters you find in the music business. He studied history and literature at university but spent most of his time poring over every issue of American Rolling Stones magazine penning gig reviews for Brisbane music mag, Time Off. He bought the magazine a few years later, taking it out if receivership. Ran it for twenty years and published over 1000 issues. Today Sean is one of the go-to music writers for many of the biggest acts in the world; Springsteen, U2, Bowie, McCartney…literally 1000’s of interviews. As a singer/songwriter Sean’s released three indie solo records. He’s written songs with the likes of Ross Wilson, Mark Seymour and Sean joined Midnight Oil co-founder Rob Hirst to create the indie-rock album Crashing The Same Car Twice. In 2020 Sean teamed up with iconic musicians Kate Ceberano and Steve Kilbey and released one of the most acclaimed albums of the year The Dangerous Age, achieving Album of Week in The Australian, The Herald Sun, The Music and more. Sean is wonderful story-teller with a turn of phrase that reels you in and has you gagging to hear more. Enjoy.
