Bryan and Nick convinced some people to come and talk with them once again and they're so thankful for it. I'm thrilled to hold the first copies of Hustlers & Seekers in my hands. And guess what? This book is designed to do the *one* thing I've never seen done in the world of personal growth, to help you merge both parts of yourself: The ambitious dreamer, the relentless spirit who shows up and never takes “no” for an answer —going all in on themselves. (We'll use ‘Hustling' to describe this energy.) The insatiable seeker, the person on a quest for meaning, for inquiry, to know what this life is *really* about —and find the truth. (We'll use ‘Seeking' to describe this energy.) In other words: You're meant to be both. You're meant to harness both. You're meant to integrate both.
“You're so disciplined, Tommy —if I had that, then I would launch the business, take the bold step, get in the best shape…” Oh, no...while I appreciate the triple scoop Hot Fudge sundae to my ego when you utter those words —here's the truth: Discipline is *easy* when you've amplified your desire: Where it becomes a no brainer. Where it becomes a daily habit. Where it becomes a non-negotiable. In other words: When you want it badly enough. When you want it with every fiber of your being. When you want it more than you want to breathe. Then you'll show up every single day —regardless of thoughts, feelings, moods, emotions and what Cardi B said on Twitter.
We review a Nitro Cold Brew by Wild Barn Coffee while rambling about coffee at work and baby showers.
You're told to be ambitious, work your face off and complete a 7-step morning ritual before 9:30 AM —listening to Gary Vee as you pound Nitro Cold Brew. (We'll call this ‘doing', or Hustling.) You're told to surrender, do the inner work, align your chakras as you meditate to binaural beats —with a backdrop of Abraham Hicks as you connect with source. (We'll call this ‘being', or Seeking.) So, what do you pick? Pick hustle and you'll buy into the myth that one day you'll get ‘there' and arrive at the Oasis where all your problems will disappear. Pick seeking and you'll buy into the myth that the inner work is all you need and one day you'll be enlightened and pound tequila with Deepak. Quite a dilemma, wouldn't you agree? The reality is: We need to merge both. We need to connect both. We need to synergize both. "If it stays as insight, it may as well be personal growth videogames." —Tommy Baker In today's Quick Hit, I'll share a small snippet from the book and dive into some of the core themes, topics, and insights —you won't want to miss!

How the f**k did Jarrett McGovern go from selling toothpicks out of his garage to selling cold brew to stores all over the Northeast? Today we’re talking with Jarrett about his own entrepreneurial journey that led him into the cold brew industry. A few years after graduating from Cornell with a marketing degree, Jarrett was the Co-Founder of the company ToothStix. He went on to work for The Water Initiative as their Creative Director. He ended up stopping both of those gigs to co-found the first nitro cold brew company in Brooklyn in 2014. Since then, RISE Brewing Company built a full-scale brewery in Stamford and is selling its coffee all-around the Northeast. So how did Jarrett turn his garage into a fully functioning toothpick production factory? And where will Jarrett be in 30 years? Possibly Greece?

Mike McKim started Cuvée as an experiment in craft – one that continues to this day. It began in 1998, when he started building his own direct trade network to ensure higher quality and more consistent access to his favorite coffee. It continued into his world-class lab in Austin, TX where they custom-dial every roast to enhance each unique bean. More recently, their curiosity led us to pioneer Nitro Cold Brew in a widget-activated Nitro can.

Caffeinating workplaces can be expensive, unsustainable, or, with the dreaded instant coffee, unpalatable! Nitro Cold Brew has become increasingly popular movement in the United States, and is now making waves in Australia. Mike Mckim is the CEO and Founder of Cuvee Coffee, Austin Texas. Sat down with Mike Mckim at his Cuvee Coffee bar on East 6th street in Austin Texas last week and had a great time hearing his story, vision for the company, lessons learned (some the hard way) successes and failures. Mike is a Navy Veteran, Entrepreneur, Husband, Father, Philanthropist and all around great guy. Aside from being the CEO and Founder of Cuvee Coffee, a brand that is largely credited as pioneering the craft coffee business in Austin, he’s the pioneer of Nitro Cold Brew and the Board Chairman of Operation Supply Drop. Really down to earth and genuine my main takeaway is that Mike is really just a guy trying to do a little better each day. We talked about managing expectations, the importance and value of living by this mantra and how it leads towards developing a positive mindset, corporate culture and an overall sense of balance. Mikey’s story is also one of hardship and perseverance and we can all learn from it. Make that call. Make it again at the same time everyday until you finally break thru. Keep moving forward. Try, try again. All of which has enabled Mike to ultimately succeed and now, set his future goals even higher.

Some listeners won't know this, but I starting roasting coffee over 20 years ago at an independent establishment (once again the BoB getting in ahead of the trend) called the Green Bean Coffeehouse where I not only managed but became their Master Roaster. After a few years life took me in a different direction and I stopped working in coffeehouses – moving into sommelier and fromagerie territories. But my passion for coffee has never left (and I credit the things I learned from that time has helping feed my passion into wine, beer, and spirits as well). A little over 5 years ago I was gifted a home roaster and the folks at Zeke's Coffee have been helping fuel my passion by being my green bean supplier. Zeke's is brimming with enthusiasts, one of whom is Whitney Webre my guest on this podcast. With this episode, he and I embark on a non-regular series* of discussions about coffee – trends, methods, beans, roasting, and anything we can relate to our love for the bean! Due to summer's heat, which is fast upon us, our topic today is cold brew – and more specifically the hottest trend in cold brew – Nitro Coffee. “We welcome you to listen, learn, and head out to find some nitro coffee at Zeke's (cafe and farmer's markets) or other local coffee roasters (for those outside the Baltimore/DC area). Cheers! *-Baron of Beverage (BoB) will run several series interwoven through their regular podcasts, rather than run all contiguous/uninterrupted.
