SEASON 6, EPISODE 12On this weekend's Behind the Mitten Show with Amy Sherman and John Gonzalez -- Amy and Gonzo take you behind the scenes of a typical travel day when they have to travel from Grand Rapids to Traverse City on an assignment. They make stops in Reed City, Cadillac, Kalkaska and Kingsley. Tune in to this fantastic road trip where they find new favorites, visit old stomping grounds, and meet two excellent sales ladies.Segment 1: We can't wait to share a new place we finally visited, the H&D Chuckwagon in Reed City on US 10 just off 131. INCREDIBLE DONUTS. We mean INCREDIBLE. They are huge, they are delicious, they are ONLY $3.50. Apple fritters, iced cinnamon rolls, stuffed long johns. Plus, all their bread is homemade, Darla was awesome, and the place was jumping.Segment 2: Cadillac gets a drive-by, with stops for some great Mexican food, a visit to the Cadillac Party Lounge, which is nowhere near as wild as it sounds, and we learn about the infamous KISS Monument in Cadillac. Yes, that would be the rock band and yes, we did say monument, and yes it is in Cadillac.Segment 3: A new-to-us brewery seems to always be on our list, so this time we visit Kingsley Local Brewery, a charming spot that is clearly a community place. Thanks to Rachel Leatherman for taking care of us. While there, we got accosted by two lovely Girl Scouts from Troop 8716, Ally and Payton. You know we walked across the street and got the goods. They were enthusiastically raising money to help the Johnson family, who recently have been facing cancer. These girls were total gems, and just another example of hope for the future.Segment 4: We continue north, and stop in Kalkaska, where if you want a great fish (or sandwiches and burgers) you want to go to the Trout Town Tavern & Eatery where pre-Covid they even served fresh fish and eggs for breakfast. Later in the day stop at The Kal-Ho Lounge for pizza and a little local color, which is always a good call. We'll also share where you can find the largest selection of Short's beer outside the pub, alongside some great grinders. We hope you'll join us as we hit the road this week!Who could we possibly have on the show next week? Who knows! But stay tuned to Behind the Mitten to find out!Follow John and Amy:Website: amyandgonzo.comFacebook at https://www.facebook.com/behindthemittenTwitterX at @BehindTheMittenInstagram at @BehindTheMitten

Episode 11 Janette RobersonIn January, 1983, 27 year old mother and wife Janette Roberson was dealing with a lot. She had recently moved to Reed City, Michigan looking towards a brighter future, but as the year began, she found herself facing issues beyone her control. Janette had recently found out that her husband was having an affair, and the couple were in the midst of a separation. To make matters worse, Janette had been receiving troubling phone calls from an unknown caller at her home. But Janette focused on rasing her kids, and on her job at the local Gambles store in Reed City. Janette's work in the pet department located in the basement of Gambles ensured her a certain amount of peace, but it's location being both quiet and secluded, would provide cover for a dangerous killer. On January, 19, 1983, Janette worked her shift as she normally did, and somehow despite a store full of employees and customers above her, someone made their way into the basement and brutally stabbed Janette to death. The attack on her was brutal, and sexual in nature. What was perhaps most shocking was that the killer had spent a good amount of time with Janette in the basement before slipping away unnoticed. Police descended on the gruesome and bloody scene, and what they found was something that they had not seen before in Reed City, a town of only 2,000 people. Police scrambled to find both potential witnesses and suspects. They looked at several people including Janette's husband Alvin, but he was eventually cleared. Sketches were created and circulated of a young man who was a possible person of interest in the case, and police hoped they would ID him. They never did, and the case went cold. Almost 40 years later, the murder of Janette Roberson remains unsolved. Can clues and evidence collected back in 1983 perhaps lead investigators to the identity of Janette's killer, or is Janette case destined to go unsolved? In this episode, the Citizen Detective team discusses the possibilities, share their theories. They are joined by Janette's sister, Lana Jarvie who walks the team through what she's been able to learn about her sister's senseless, and violent murder.Tips and information about Janette's case may be submitted to both theJanette Roberson and Who Murdered Janette Roberson Facebookpages at:https://www.facebook.com/janette.roberson.1&https://www.facebook.com/groups/177173285814467All tips received on Facebook will be forwarded to police. WNBA – Russian court rejects Griner appeal of her 9-year sentence A Russian court has rejected an appeal by U.S. basketball star Brittney Griner of her nine-year prison sentence for drug possession, a step that could move her closer to a possible high-stakes prisoner swap between Moscow and Washington. The all-star center with the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury and two-time Olympic gold medalist was convicted Aug. 4 after police said they found vape canisters containing cannabis oil in her luggage at a Moscow airport. Reflecting pressure on the U.S. administration to do more to bring Griner home, the U.S. secretary of state revealed in July that Washington had made a proposal to get Griner home, along with Paul Whelan, an American serving a 16-year sentence in Russia for espionage. The new stadium would cost $1.2 billion in public funding and is considered to be the largest public commitment for an NFL stadium to date. The release follows last week’s announcement of a deal for $760 million in local financing that still must be approved by the Nashville council and sports authority. Beal was limited to 21:49 because of back tightness, although he was able to return late in the third quarter after missing the entire second. The Wizards actually broke the game open without him and cruised to a lopsided victory. Kristaps Porzingis scored 20 points, Will Barton contributed 16 and Beal was able to finish with 13. Bojan Bogdanovic led Detroit with 25 points and Cade Cunningham added 19. Tonight Atlanta Hawks at Detroit Pistons, 7:00 p.m. Indiana Pacers at Chicago Bulls, 8:00 p.m. NBA – NBA, NBPA seeking more respectful tone at all levels of game The NBA and its players have announced a plan to encourage better and more respectful behavior within basketball, even at youth levels. It’s part of the league’s “Respect for the Game” initiative. The NBA has been using that term with players for nearly two decades, primarily hoping to foster more positive interactions between players and referees during games. NHL – National Hockey League Last Night New Jersey Devils 6, Detroit Red Wings 2 Chicago Blackhawks 4, Florida Panthers 2 Devils 6, Red Wings 2 – Bratt scores 2, Devils hand Wings first regulation loss, 6-2 Jesper Bratt had two goals and an assist as the New Jersey Devils beat the Detroit Red Wings 6-2. Jack Hughes, Dawson Mercer, Yegor Sharangovich and Nico Hischier also scored for the Devils. Vitek Vanecek stopped 20 shots to help the Devils bounce back from a 6-3 loss at home to Washington on Monday. Dominik Kubalik and Dylan Larkin scored for Detroit and Alex Nedeljkovic made 35 saves. The Red Wings (3-1-2) were the last remaining team without a regulation loss. Blackhawks 4, Panthers 2 – Kane scores, Blackhawks hold off Panthers 4-2 for 4th in row Patrick Kane had a goal and an assist, and the streaking Chicago Blackhawks withstood Florida’s late push to beat the Panthers 4-2. Taylor Raddysh, Philipp Kurashev and Jonathan Toews also scored in the Blackhawks’ fourth straight victory after dropping their first two games of the season. Chicago overcame two-goal deficits in its previous three wins, but had to hold on against the Panthers in the final 10 minutes. Eetu Luostarinen and Matthew Tkachuk scored for the Panthers. Tkachuk’s goal, on a nifty mid-air deflection of Carter Verhaeghe’s point shot, closed the gap to 3-2 with 7:13 to play. Chicago goalie Alex Stalock, stopped 29 shots. MLB – Tigers hire Rays’ Rob Metzler as VP, assistant GM The Detroit Tigers have hired Tampa Bay scouting director Rob Metzler as vice president and assistant general manager. Metzler spent 15 seasons with the Rays, working the past seven years as the team’s senior director of amateur scouting. He will lead the Tigers’ amateur and international scouting departments, working under president of baseball operations Scott Harris. Detroit finished 66-96 in 2022 and has not made the playoffs in eight years. Harris took over the front office after longtime general manager Al Avila was fired in August. NFL – NFL says referees didn’t get Mike Evans’ autograph The NFL says the two game officials seen interacting with Tampa Bay wide receiver Mike Evans in the tunnel of Bank of America Stadium after the Buccaneers’ 21-3 loss to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday didn’t ask for an autograph. The league released a statement saying the interaction “did not involve a request by the game officials for an autograph” and the officials were reminded of the “importance of avoiding even the appearance of impropriety” when interacting with players. NFL officials are banned from asking for autographs or memorabilia under their labor contract. Evans said Tuesday he was talking about golf with the referees. NFL – Titans release renderings of proposed new domed stadium The Tennessee Titans’ proposed domed stadium would seat approximately 60,000 people and cover 1.7 million square feet under renderings released Tuesday. The renderings show the stadium with porches and outdoor terraces providing views of Nashville, a circular translucent roof and a variety of areas for fans. An architect has not yet been hired. The new stadium would cost $1.2 billion in public funding and is considered to be the largest public commitment for an NFL stadium to date. The release follows last week’s announcement of a deal for $760 million in local financing that still must be approved by the Nashville council and sports authority. Golf – LIV Golf team finale set for Doral, PGA Tour goes to Bermuda LIV Golf heads to Trump National Doral in Miami this weekend for the finale of the Saudi-funded series’ inaugural season. NBA – National Basketball Association Last Night Washington Wizards 120, Detroit Pistons 99 Wizards 120, Pistons 99 – Beal limited by back, but Wizards roll past Pistons 120-99 Kyle Kuzma scored 25 points, and the Washington Wizards overcame Bradley Beal’s back issues to beat the Detroit Pistons 120-99. A dozen four-man teams will play for a $50 million purse, the biggest ever in golf, with each winning team member getting $4 million. Dustin Johnson and his “4 Aces” are the top seed. The PGA Tour heads to Bermuda for the Butterfield Bermuda Championship. Lucas Herbert of Australia is not returning to defend his title. The field features only one player from the top 50 in the world ranking. The European tour is in Portugal for the Portugal Masters. NCAAFB – Big Ten boasts some of nation’s top defenses in 2022 Just four Big Ten teams are ranked in the AP Top 25, but six of the top 12 defenses in college football reside in the conference. Illinois has the top-ranked defensive unit in the nation, followed by No. 2 Ohio State. Michigan is ranked fifth in defense. Iowa was propped up by its tough defense before running into the speeding Buckeyes last week. The Hawkeyes are still sixth best in the nation. Rutgers and Minnesota have needed the help of their defenses, ranked seventh and 12th, respectively, to stay above .500. NHL – National Hockey League Last Night Los Angeles Kings 5, Detroit Red Wings 4 – OT Kings 5, Red Wings 4 – OT – Danault’s overtime goal gives Kings 5-4 win over Red Wings Phillip Danault scored 1:12 into overtime for his second goal of the game, and the Los Angeles Kings handed the Detroit Red Wings their first loss with a 5-4 victory. Danault’s winning shot in front hit a defender’s skate and bounced into the net. Anze Kopitar had a goal and an assist, giving him 47 points in 42 games against Detroit. Gabriel Vilardi also scored for the Kings, and Jonathan Quick made 29 saves. Wings forward Oskar Sundqvist scored in the final minute of regulation to send the game into overtime. NHL – Red Wings’ Bertuzzi out 4 to 6 weeks with upper-body injury Detroit Red Wings forward Tyler Bertuzzi is expected to be out for four to six weeks with an upper-body injury. The team made the announcement Monday before hosting the Los Angeles Kings. Bertuzzi helped Detroit win its first two games this season, giving the rebuilding team a much-needed solid start. Bertuzzi had career highs last year with 30 goals and 62 points. The 27-year-old Bertuzzi has scored 84 goals and has 189 assists in his career. NFL – National Football League – Week 6 Yesterday Los Angeles Chargers 19, Denver Broncos 16 – OT Chargers 19, Broncos 16 – OT – Late turnover, Hopkins 4th field goal gives Chargers OT win Dustin Hopkins kicked four field goals, including a 39-yarder with 2:38 remaining in overtime, and the Los Angeles Chargers rallied for a 19-16 victory over the Denver Broncos. The Chargers have won three straight to improve to 4-2. They are tied with Kansas City atop the AFC West. The game appeared to be headed toward a tie until Denver’s Montrell Washington muffed JK Scott’s punt at the Broncos 32-yard line. It was recovered by Deane Leonard at the 28. NFL – Lions DL Levi Onwuzurike out for year after back surgery Detroit Lions defensive lineman Levi Onwuzurike is out for the season after having back surgery earlier this month. Lions coach Dan Campbell made the announcement Monday. The Lions drafted Onwuzurike with the No. 41 pick overall in 2021 and the former Washington standout had an underwhelming rookie season. Onwuzurike played in 16 games as a backup last year and had 35 tackles, including one sack. While trying to recover from a back injury this season, he did not play in a game. MLB – Major League Baseball Playoffs Last Night ALDS – Best of 5 Cleveland Guardians at New York Yankees, PPD Rain (Series tied 2-2) Guardians at Yankees, PPD – Guardians-Yankees rained out, to play ALDS Game 5 on Tuesday The decisive Game 5 of the AL Division Series between the Cleveland Guardians and New York Yankees has been postponed by rain after a 2 1/2-hour delay and rescheduled for Tuesday at 4:07 p.m. Both teams took batting practice ahead of the scheduled 7:07 p.m. start. Major League Baseball announced a delay at 6:20 p.m., rain started falling at 7:30 p.m. and the postponement was announced at 9:38 p.m. It was the second postponement of the series following Game 2 at Yankee Stadium being pushed back a day until last Friday. Cleveland or New York will start the AL Championship Series at Houston on Wednesday night. Today ALDS – Best of 5 Cleveland (Civale 5-6) at New York (Cortes 12-4), 4:07 p.m. (Series tied 2-2) NLCS – Best of 7 Philadelphia (Wheeler 12-7) at San Diego (Darvish 16-8), 8:03 p.m. (Game 1) NBA – National Basketball Association – Regular Season Openers Tonight Philadelphia 76ers at Boston Celtics, 7:30 p.m. Los Angeles Lakers at Golden State Warriors, 10:00 p.m. NBA – NBA ’22-23: Warriors out to defend, amid tons of contenders The Golden State Warriors and Boston Celtics were the final two teams standing last season. And before this season started, both encountered some major issues. The Warriors will get their championship rings Tuesday night when the 77th NBA season opens. It’ll be the fourth time in eight years that the Warriors go into a season as defending champs. But they were rocked in the preseason by Draymond Green punching teammate Jordan Poole. They beat the Celtics in the NBA Finals and Boston has since lost coach Ime Udoka to a team-ordered suspension. If all that wasn’t enough, there are tons of contenders in both conferences to try to take the Warriors and Celtics down. NBA – Barkley, ‘Inside the NBA’ crew agree to contract extensions Charles Barkley will not be leaving TNT or the “Inside the NBA” crew for the foreseeable future. Barkley has signed a 10-year extension with Warner Bros. Discovery Sports, which owns TNT. Barkley’s agreement coincides with contract renewals for host Ernie Johnson and analysts Kenny Smith and Shaquille O’Neal. Barkley has been with TNT since retiring as a player in 2000. He had floated the idea of doing commentary for LIV Golf this past summer. NCAAMBKB – North Carolina No. 1 in preseason AP Top 25 North Carolina is No. 1 in the preseason AP Top 25 men’s basketball poll. The national runner-up from last season returns four of five starters and received 47 of 62 first-place votes. Gonzaga is No. 2, followed by Houston and Kentucky. Kansas and Baylor, the last two national champions, are tied for fifth. Duke, led by new coach Jon Scheyer, is seventh with UCLA, Creighton and Arkansas rounding out the top 10. The Big 12 and SEC lead the way with five teams apiece in the Top 25. NCAAFB – Fallout from rare Alabama loss Alabama loses so infrequently it seems to shift the shape of the season when it happens. The Crimson Tide took an L on Saturday at Tennessee that pushed the Volunteers to No. 3 in the AP Top 25. The Vols received 15 first-place votes, the most they have gotten since 1999. After falling on a field goal as time expired, the Crimson Tide slipped three spots to No. 6. Alabama is the highest ranked team that has lost. Reality Check cautions against making any grand proclamations about the Alabama dynasty’s long-term health and is fine with the Tide’s short fall. NASCAR – Wallace ignored his own mantra in Larson conflict NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace has a mantra of “Peace, Love and Understanding” that he uses to push back against the negativity so often hurled his way. There was nothing peaceful about his skirmish with Kyle Larson at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Wallace appeared to deliberately crash the reigning NASCAR champion in a dangerous retaliatory move and then he tried to fight Larson. Now NASCAR gets to decide if Wallace was out of line. He could be looking at a suspension. NFL – Lions DL Levi Onwuzurike out for year after back surgery Detroit Lions defensive lineman Levi Onwuzurike is out for the season after having back surgery earlier this month. Onwuzurike played in 16 games as a backup last year and had 35 tackles, including one sack. While trying to recover from a back injury this season, he did not play in a game. Major League Baseball announced a delay at 6:20 p.m., rain started falling at 7:30 p.m. and the postponement was announced at 9:38 p.m. It was the second postponement of the series following Game 2 at Yankee Stadium being pushed back a day until last Friday. NFL – National Football League – Week 5 Last Night Kansas City Chiefs 30, Las Vegas Raiders 29 Chiefs 30, Raiders 29 – Chiefs hold on for wild 30-29 victory over rival Raiders Patrick Mahomes threw four touchdown passes to Travis Kelce, the Chiefs overcame an early 17-point deficit along with a dubious roughing-the-passer penalty, and Kansas City extended its mastery of the Las Vegas Raiders, holding on for a 30-29 victory. The Raiders had a chance to march for the winning field goal, but a pass to Davante Adams that was ruled a catch was overturned by replay, which showed him stepping out of bounds. That brought up fourth down in the closing seconds, and Derek Carr’s final pass fell incomplete to allow Kansas City to hold on. NFL – Roughing-the-passer call prompts officiating scrutiny A controversial roughing-the-passer penalty just before halftime of the Las Vegas Raiders’ game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday night delivered another blow to the NFL and its beleaguered officiating crew. The Chiefs had just scored to trim their deficit to 17-7 just before halftime when Chris Jones stripped Derek Carr from behind. The Pro Bowl defensive tackle landed on the Raiders quarterback while also coming away with the ball, and replays showed it was clearly loose and that Jones clearly recovered, but referee Carl Cheffers threw a flag for roughing the passer. The call came one day after referee Jerome Boger was panned for a roughing call on Tom Brady that helped the Buccaneers seal their win over Atlanta. NFL – Panthers fire Matt Rhule after 1-4 start; Wilks takes over The Carolina Panthers have fired coach Matt Rhule, ending the former Baylor coach’s tenure five games into his third losing season. Rhule is the first NFL coach to be fired this season. He went 11-27 with Carolina and leaves with roughly $40 million left on the seven-year, guaranteed $62 million contract he signed in 2020. Defensive pass game coordinator and secondary coach Steve Wilks will serve as interim coach for the rest of the season. The Panthers also fired two of Rhule’s longtime assistants, defensive coordinator Phil Snow and assistant special teams coach Ed Foley. MLB – Major League Baseball Playoffs – Divisional Series – Best of Five Today Philadelphia (Suárez 10-7) at Atlanta (Fried 14-7), 1:07 p.m. Seattle (Gilbert 13-6) at Houston (Verlander 18-4), 3:37 p.m. Cleveland (Quantrill 15-5) at New York (Cole 13-8), 7:37 p.m. San Diego (Clevinger 7-7) at Los Angeles (Urías 17-7), 9:37 p.m. MLB – MLB Playoffs: Judge, Verlander join fray as 8 teams remain Major League Baseball’s first foray into a best-of-three wild-card round provided its share of memorable moments. A 15-inning, 432-pitch game. A seven-run comeback win. Joe Musgrove’s ears. Now it’s on to the division series, which is business as usual with a best-of-five format. The four matchups are Braves-Phillies, Padres-Dodgers, Mariners-Astros and Guardians-Yankees and all of them begin Tuesday. The Astros, Yankees, Braves and Dodgers got to rest and watch the wild-card drama round from home, thanks to superior regular season records. MLB – Giants hire Pete Putila as new general manager The San Francisco Giants have hired Houston assistant general manager Pete Putila as their new GM. President of Baseball Operations Farhan Zaidi announced that Putila will replace Scott Harris, who was hired as GM for the Detroit Tigers last month. The 33-year-old Putila was in his 12th season with the Astros and third as assistant general manager. Houston has advanced to the postseason in each of Putila’s three seasons as assistant GM, reaching the World Series last season and the American League Championship Series in 2020. MLB – Cubs’ Hoyer planning more ‘intelligent spending’ this winter Chicago Cubs President of Baseball Operations Jed Hoyer says he is encouraged by how the team finished the franchise’s second straight losing season. But he says the organization is focused on the short and long term when it comes to its offseason plans. Hoyer is staying with the ambiguous concept of “intelligent spending” — which could price the big-market club out of the massive contracts at the top end of the free-agent market. While Hoyer left himself miles of wiggle room when it comes to the team’s offseason plans, he did confirm the club would make a qualifying offer to All-Star catcher Willson Contreras. NHL – National Hockey League – Regular Season Start Tonight Tampa Bay Lightning at New York Rangers, 7:30 p.m. Vegas Golden Knights at Los Angeles Kings, 10:00 p.m. -Blackhawks open up on Wednesday at Colorado at 9:00 p.m. -Red Wings open up on Friday vs. Montreal at 7:00 p.m. NHL – Blackhawks claim D Jarred Tinordi off waivers from Rangers The Chicago Blackhawks have claimed defenseman Jarred Tinordi off waivers from the New York Rangers. The 30-year-old Tinordi scored a goal in seven games with New York last season. He was selected by Montreal in the first round of the 2010 draft. The Blackhawks open the regular season on Wednesday night at Colorado. NBA – National Basketball Association – Preseason Tonight Oklahoma City Thunder at Detroit Pistons, 7:00 p.m. Milwaukee Bucks at Chicago Bulls, 8:00 p.m. NCAAFB – Wisconsin’s Mellusi hurts wrist, won’t play against Spartans Wisconsin running back Chez Mellusi will miss at least one game after injuring his right wrist in the Badgers’ 42-7 victory over Northwestern. Mellusi has rushed for 223 yards and one touchdown on 56 carries this season. Wisconsin announced Monday that Mellusi wouldn’t be available when the Badgers visit Michigan State on Saturday. Badgers interim head coach Jim Leonhard said it was uncertain just how much time Mellusi would miss. Mellusi rushed for 815 yards and five touchdowns in nine games with Wisconsin last year before a torn left anterior cruciate ligament knocked him out for the remainder of the season. Golf – LIV – Johnson has $30 million year and growing in LIV Golf Dustin Johnson already is assured of a $30 million year with Saudi-funded LIV Golf. Johnson finished out of the top 10 for the first time in six events last week in Bangkok. But because Branden Grace had to withdraw because of injury, Johnson is assured of claiming the points race. He has a 42-point lead over Grace. Johnson has won about $12.7 million in earnings, with $3 million of that coming from the team competition. Winning the season points title comes with an $18 million bonus. Johnson still has two events left this year. NWSL – NWSL players call for owner to sell Chicago franchise The fallout is continuing after the release of a report into misconduct in the National Women’s Soccer League. Chicago Red Stars players are calling for owner Arnim Whisler to sell the team. Alaska Airline says it’s diverting Thorns and Timbers sponsorship dollars this quarter to an NWSL Players Association emergency fund to protect players. The NWSL has also dismissed the coach of the Orlando Pride and an assistant following an investigation into retaliatory behavior. Gymnastics – USA Gymnastics expands mental health services for athletes USA Gymnastics is expanding its mental health coverage for athletes and coaches. The organization will provide financial assistance for up to eight visits a year to mental health providers for eligible national team members across all disciplines. The new plan also allows for four visits to mental health providers for eligible coaches. USA Gymnastics will reimburse athletes/coaches up to $125 per visit. Coaches and athletes may use whatever health care provider they would like if the provider has “appropriate training and licensure in sport psychology or mental health.” Funding for the program was provided in part by the organization’s sponsorship deal with apparel provider GK Elite. Janette Roberson, her husband and their two children had moved to the small town of Reed City, Michigan about eight months before her death. She worked in the pet department in the basement of a local store called Gambles. It was in that basement where another employee found Janette’s bruised and battered body on the afternoon of January 19, 1983. Police believe she had to have been killed sometime between 1 and 4 p.m. that afternoon.Although there had been other employees and customers walking around upstairs, no one reportedly heard anything.Janette, severely beaten with several different blunt objects, had also been sexually assaulted. “This was a brutal -- very brutal --killing,” Janette’s sister Lana said. “I don’t know how someone can do that to another person.”At the time, Reed City was home to offices for three law enforcement agencies: the Reed City Police Department, the Michigan State Police, and the Osceola County Sheriff’s Department. Each department participated in the investigation, according to local newspaper reports at the time.January 19, 2021 marked the 38th anniversary of this brutal murder. Today, no one has been arrested. I am your host Bill Huffman and this week we will be exploring the mysterious murder of Janette Roberson in Reed City, Michigan. Like all true crime enthusiasts I end up down some interesting rabbit holes and come out with more questions than when I went in. In 1983, 27-year-old Janette Roberson's murder rocked the small town of Reed City, Michigan. Janette was murdered in the afternoon while she was working in the basement pet department of a store called Gambles. This was an extremely savage murder. But, somehow, no employees or patrons of the store upstairs heard anything. A composite sketch of a man seen in the store around the time of the murder was produced and circulated. No one in the town could say who this man was. Join Mike and Morf as they discuss the mystifying murder of Janette Roberson. Janette was a wife and mother who had a huge heart and a deep love for animals. How could someone end her life so callously? Was this someone who had become infatuated with Janette and became enraged when she rebuffed his advances? Police are still working on this unsolved case and using advances in DNA technology to try to identify Janette's killer.
