Please be aware the stories, theories, re-enactments and language in this podcast are of an adult nature and can be considered disturbing, frightening and in some cases even offensive.  Listener Discretion is therefore advised.  Welcome heathens welcome to the world of the weird and unexplained.  I'm your host, Nicole Delacroix and together, we will be investigating stories about the things that go bump in the night, frighteningly imagined creatures, supernatural beings and even some unsolved mysteries but I promise all sorts of weirdness.  So, sit back, grab your favorite drink, and prepare to be transported to today's dark Enigma....  And on today's Dark enigma well, we have a rather interesting listener suggestion, it was a story I may have heard, but I really enjoyed looking into it!  So, with that said, we will still be playing our drinking game and as you know, the drinking game is only for those of us that are at home and have nowhere else to go tonight.  The choice of libation, as always my darlings, is yours, so choose your poison accordingly… Alright, now for the game part how about every time I say Lurancy that will be a single shot and every time I say Roff, that will be a double shot.  Now that the business end is out of the way we can jump headfirst into today's dark enigma… so don your best bustle and hoop skirt and for you guys your best seersucker suit should do fine , let's dive into today's offering of  The Watseka Wonder – or America's First Recorded Case of Ghostly Possession In the small rural farming town of Watseka, approximately 85 miles south of Chicago, Illinois, something otherworldly was going down between 1877 and 1878. It was here that the very first American possession was documented. When we think of possessions, we think of demonic spirits taking over a human body by force and most often, the results are terrifying. This case, however, is quite different than your average so-called possession.

What do you think of when you hear the word slow? Does it bring up images of being stuck in traffic, or of someone testing your patience? Aside from a delicious method of cooking, is there anything beneficial about going slow? What about if someone had asked you the following question in your formative years: what kind of life do you want? How would you have answered then, and are you living that life?  In this episode Maria Alva Roff and I wrap up the third sprint in our Sustainable Leadership Navigator for Founders project. We discuss meetings we had in the past two weeks, including with well-known talk show host and university lecturer Sirrý Arnadóttir, who has learned the art of living slow. We also spoke with a founder who learned the hard way that choosing your founding team well almost can be a life-or-death matter, and who also now embraces going slow. Finally, in our quest to find out more about how mental health can be more effectively embedded in education, we talk about the newest generations of youth, and how they think and live. In this episode, you will hear about:  How taking things slow doesn't necessarily mean you're lazy or unproductive Why the quick success so many founders pray for can also be one of the hardest things to experience How the vocabulary that Gen's Z and Alpha relate most to can be utilized to promote sustainable mental health Stay safe and #standwithukraine, Anna Resources: Learn more about Maria: https://alva.mystrikingly.com/ Sign-up for the Sustainable Leadership Newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/205a08ca614c/sustainableleadershipnewsletter Book a Mindshifting Intensive: https://annaliebel.as.me/strategycall  Support Ukraine: https://u24.gov.ua/

After nearly a dozen hours of interviews and chats with local and international founders, investors and community leaders, has anything new been discovered? Is there a viable way to reach out to entrepreneurs before they hit the wall? Or are there certain character traits that define the kind of person who's willing to risk it all for their startup?  In this episode, I talk again with my collaborator Maria Alva Roff about what we learned during Sprint 2 of the Sustainable Leadership Navigator for Founders project. We go over a number of the main ideas that arose during our chats with leaders in the field of founders' wellness and discuss whether it's time to pivot from our original focus to something more relevant for the Icelandic business landscape.  In this episode, you will hear about:  Whether early education about longterm health and wellness is the key to avoiding later burnout How founders are very much like athletes, and also how they differ Why trying to tell young founders that they'll eventually hit a wall and crash is not only futile, but possibly destructive  Stay safe and #standwithukraine, Anna Resources: Learn more about Maria: https://alva.mystrikingly.com/ Sign-up for the Sustainable Leadership Newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/205a08ca614c/sustainableleadershipnewsletter Book a Mindshifting Intensive: https://annaliebel.as.me/strategycall  Support Ukraine: https://u24.gov.ua/

Does Iceland have a culture that reinforces firefighter mode? Is there anything unique about the island nation that makes asking for and finding well-being support a challenge? And is burnout something that's on people's minds? In this episode, I talk with Maria Alva Roff, who's my collaborator on a project Sustainable Leadership Navigator for Founders, sponsored by Rannis (the Icelandic Center for Research) and tailored for the Icelandic mindset. Maria details her experiences having been raised in Silicon Valley, only to return home to Reykjavik in her adult years with a unique view of what it is to be an Icelander, and how that affects founders' wellbeing.  In this episode, you will hear about: How environmental factors have created a distinct Icelandic mindset How social experiences often discourage opening up about hitting the wall  What we're developing to help the discussion reach as many local founders and leaders as possible Stay safe and #standwithukraine, Anna Resources: Learn more about Maria: https://alva.mystrikingly.com/ Sign-up for the Sustainable Leadership Newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/205a08ca614c/sustainableleadershipnewsletter Book a Mindshifting Intensive: https://annaliebel.as.me/strategycall  Support Ukraine: https://u24.gov.ua/

Welcome back listeners! As beauty professionals, we know there is a huge lack of education about darker skin tones and melanin rich skin. This is why our special guest, Rachel, founder of UrbanSkinRX created her business. When Rachel began her Aesthetician career 20 years ago, she solely focused on providing skin and laser treatments for patients with skin of color at her medspa in Charlotte, NC because no other medical spas were. Individuals with melanin-rich skin were being turned away, misdiagnosed, or even worse–scarred and burnt. Quickly recognizing the need to fill the aesthetics diversity gap beyond Charlotte, Rachel developed Urban Skin Rx® to deliver clinical formulas for hyperpigmentation to consumers across the globe. Today, Urban Skin Rx® continues to elevate and expand the category of clinical skincare for melanin-rich skin tones and solutions for hyperpigmentation. Urban Skin Rx's Rachel Roff on how virality on TikTok 'forever changed our brand'

Like many beauty entrepreneurs, Rachel Roff, founder and CEO of Urban Skin Rx, came up with the idea for her brand after a workplace epiphany. As a trained aesthetician, she discovered that the tried-and-true treatments found in dermatology and aesthetics environments were not suited for darker skin tones. “When it came time for me to do practicals [hands-on experience to graduate and receive a license], you have to service friends and family. I would bring in my group of friends and family, many of whom had melanin-rich skin. I would get from teachers, ‘Don't do this, don't do that. Darker skin burns so easily. We have to keep it very basic,” Roff said on the latest episode of the Glossy Beauty Podcast. Unsatisfied with the limited skin-care solutions that were offered for people of color, Roff opened the Urban Skin Solutions Medical Spa in 2006 in Charlotte, North Carolina. After seeing demand in that environment, Roff spun out the Urban Skin Rx brand in 2010 to serve more people. Today, it is sold in Target, Walmart and Ulta Beauty. Part of its more recent success was largely due to a viral TikTok moment in 2020. An unpaid influencer posted a before-and-after of the brand's hero cleansing bar that forever changed the brand's trajectory. Last year, Urban Skin Rx hit $30 million in sales. “One day at the office, my head of e-commerce [was like], our sales are triple what they should be at noon,” she said. “This girl ended up emailing us and was like, ‘Hey, I just wanted to let you know that I posted this on my TikTok, and it's now at like a million views.' We were not on TikTok at this point as a company,” she said. “It really has been a wild ride since, even to this day, the positive and negative effects of that moment will have forever changed our brand. It has given me a lot of life lessons as a leader, as a CEO, on what I would do if it happened again.”
