You know those moments in business where things suddenly feel a little too quiet? Maybe the inquiries slow down, sales dip, or your calendar just isn't as packed as usual. It can feel unsettling, especially when you're not sure why it's happening or how long it's going to last. The truth is, EVERY entrepreneur hits those slower seasons. In my business, summer tends to be our slow season. Depending on what you do, it may be around the holidays, or in the Fall. Having busy and slow seasons is a natural part of running a business. They're timeless, practical, and focused on helping you use these quieter times to your advantage! So whether you're currently feeling the weight of a slower season or just want to be prepared for the next one, this episode is packed with four simple yet effective ways to reignite momentum and boost your sales. In this episode of SoTellUs Time, Trevor and Troy Howard break down what smart entrepreneurs do when business gets quiet — and how YOU can turn any slow season into a launchpad for long-term success.
What if creativity isn't about doing more — but about trusting the seasons of your life? This week on the Embodied Podcast, I sat down with East Coast musician Christina Martin for a heartfelt conversation about music, healing, and the courage to trust yourself. Christina's creative journey isn't linear — and that's what makes it inspiring. Growing up on the windswept coast of Nova Scotia, she learned early to navigate loss, trauma, and the slow work of rebuilding trust. Trust the slow season Looking back now, she sees creativity as a cycle — one that requires rest, reflection, and space. “There were times I felt guilty for not having the energy to keep doing, doing, doing,” Christina shared. “But looking back, I see now — when the call comes, you're fueled. And when you follow that, it's a pretty cool ride.” This is what we explored together — letting go, trusting the quiet seasons, and allowing healing to happen in your own time.Healing happens in relationship Christina shared openly about her process as an artist — and as a woman learning to trust herself again after loss and betrayal. Over time, supportive relationships helped her heal and rebuild trust — with herself, her creativity, and with others. “It was a big thing for me... when I start to feel this sense of I don't want to hurt somebody or maybe my feelings aren't valid... It's because my body is still remembering a bit of this pain. It's trying to protect itself.” Less is more We also talked about letting go of perfectionism in creative work — making space for joy, presence, and connection. “Less is more has proven to bring more joy, more meaningful work, more room for just creativity and thoughts.” Trust your pace This episode is a beautiful invitation to slow down — to trust your body, your inner pace, and the cycles of creativity that move through your life. When we give ourselves permission to rest, to reflect, and to trust the call when it comes — we open ourselves to a life that feels more true. Listen to our full conversation on the Embodied podcast — available wherever you listen to podcasts. I've been hearing from so many photographers lately that they feel bookings are slow right now. Their inquiries are down, and they're not booking as much as usual. And while these seasons can be very challenging, I know from experience that sitting in your feelings is only helpful for so long. If you are needing to provide for your family, it's okay for it to feel discouraging, but you also can't just keep waiting around. Instead, you need to take action and do something about not booking as much business. That is what this episode is about.I'm exploring reasons behind fewer bookings, mindset shifts to make, and key money-making strategies to implement to help with this season.00:53 Personal Experience with Business Downturns02:22 Mindset Shift: Don't Overthink Slow Bookings03:45 Analyzing Past Data to Understand Trends09:37 Immediate Actions to Boost Bookings09:51 Money-Making Activities to Implement Now14:35 Brand Building During Slow Seasons17:55 Enhancing Client ExperienceI know that it can feel really frustrating to be in a slow season. Right about now, a lot of portrait photographers are crawling out of their slow-season dens and gearing up for the inquiries, sessions, editing, etc. that come with the change in weather. Most of us spent the slower months optimizing our businesses behind the scenes - which is great! - but the transition from learning and planning to actually implementing can be a rough one. If you're not equipped with a plan, it's all too easy to slip right back to old habits you were trying to get past (I'm speaking from personal experience here).Cue today's conversation with Sabrina Gebhardt. Sabrina is a master at helping photographers thoughtfully managing their time and gracefully grow their businesses alongside their daily lives. We talk about how to successfully transition back into your busier seasons without losing all the work you've put in during the slower season. This episode will leave you feeling equipped and inspired to make it happen!mastermind waitlist: sabrinagebhardt.com/mastermind-waitlistListen to the 10-part mini-series "The Simple Sales System for Photographers" Watch the Simple Sales Masterclass where Annemie teaches the 6 steps to running a profitable, sustainable photography business you love.
