Send us a textSlow seasons have a way of making people freeze. Owners hesitate. Teams lose momentum. Decisions get postponed while everyone waits to “see what happens.” But the truth is simple: nothing changes when you pause; everything changes when you lead.In this episode, we talk about how to stay in motion when business feels slow. We break down why slow periods are often misdiagnosed, how mindset and leadership energy impact your team more than you realize, and why this time of year can actually be one of the most valuable windows for growth if you use it intentionally. We also talk about knowing your numbers, using downtime to train and systemize, creating momentum instead of waiting for it, and why busy weeks are not a reason to take your foot off the gas. This conversation is about shifting from reaction to leadership, even (and especially) when things feel uncertain.Your business should serve you, so that you can serve others. Leadership doesn't show up when things are easy — it shows up when it would be easier to wait.Key TakeawaysSlow seasons don't hurt businesses — inaction does.Leadership energy matters more than words during downtime.Shiny new ideas won't solve foundational business problems.Knowing your numbers reduces stress and clarifies decisions.Downtime is the best time for training, systems, and planning.Busy weeks still require marketing, content, and follow-through.Repeating “this month is always slow” guarantees it stays that way.Momentum comes from small, intentional actions — not waiting.Mentorship and outside perspective help you regain focus.Progress doesn't require perfect conditions, just movement.Time Stamps00:00 — Welcome + why this episode is intentionally relaxed 01:00 — Jen's opening take: self-care, sustainability, and planning ahead 04:00 — Todd's opening take: shiny objects don't fix real problems 07:00 — Why pausing during slow seasons makes things worse 10:00 — Leadership during downtime: keeping teams in motion 13:00 — Training, laundry, content, and creating positive momentum 16:00 — Why blaming the economy doesn't help your business 18:00 — Knowing your numbers changes everything 21:00 — Reading your P&L and removing financial anxiety 23:00 — Busy weeks vs slow weeks — both require leadership 26:00 — Marketing, content, and staying visible year-round 29:00 — Fixing “October is always slow” thinking 32:00 — Automation, systems, and building stability 34:00 — When you feel stuck: get outside your echo chamber 36:00 — Mentorship, focus, and staying in forward motion 39:00 — Final thoughts + holiday resetLinks and Stuff:Our Newsletter Mentoring InquiriesFind more of our things:InstagramHello Hair Pro Website

Quiet calendars don't have to mean quiet growth. We break down the most common slow-season mistakes home inspectors make—and replace them with practical moves that compound into spring momentum. From why turning off your website or pausing SEO backfires to how steady AEO signals and consistent social content build authority, we show exactly where to invest attention when the market cools. We dig into real-world tactics: refreshing your website with local service pages and helpful articles, optimizing your Google Business Profile with complete details, weekly posts, and fresh photos, and using YouTube and Facebook to boost topical relevance. On the relationship side, we lean into the realtor calendar—office visits, short trainings, and pre-listing inspection packages that put your brand on the sign and in the room when deals return. Pricing gets a strategic reset too: plan your spring increase now, refine packages and add-ons, and script your phone conversions so you protect margins without racing to the bottom.Professional development and operations round out the playbook. Finish CE while the phones are calm, add certifications that open new revenue like sewer scope, infrared, mold, and radon, and service every tool and vehicle you depend on. Then let data guide your next leap: read your analytics, identify top referrers and churned agents, automate client follow-ups, and audit report clarity. Finally, build a true profit and loss so you know your cost per acquisition and cost per inspection—numbers that inform smart pricing and better marketing bets.If you're ready to turn winter into your advantage, this is your blueprint for marketing consistency, realtor partnerships, pricing strategy, CE momentum, equipment readiness, analytics literacy, and cleaner reports. Send us a textPhones get quiet, bills don't. We tackle the slow-season squeeze head-on with a blueprint for building maintenance clubs that are easy to sell, rich with perks, and powerful enough to turn downtime into dependable revenue. Rachel kicks things off before Crystal and Emily dive into the strategies we use with HVAC, plumbing, roofing, and pest control companies to keep cash flowing when the weather won't do the heavy lifting. We start with the essentials: simplify your plan to one or two tiers, publish it clearly, and equip CSRs and techs with tight scripts that make the value obvious. From priority service and documented maintenance to loyalty credits for future system replacements, we outline member benefits that feel exclusive—not just a discounted tune-up in disguise. Then we layer in smart cross-sells and seasonal bundles that lift average tickets, like IAQ upgrades, duct cleaning, programmable thermostats, water heater flushes, and visual roofing checks that create real reasons to roll a truck when demand dips. You'll also hear practical ideas to keep your brand sticky in a crowded market. Monthly member emails with an owner's note and timely tips, weather-triggered check-ins, and delight moments—think fall pumpkin drop-offs or pet treats for “fur families”—build loyalty and referrals that last longer than a service call. We map out targets (aim for 1,000 members per $1M in service revenue), the KPIs that matter, and the gamified incentives that make teams care: simple spiffs, leaderboards, steak dinners cooked by leadership, even big-ticket raffles for sustained performance. The result is a “smart seat bank” of happy customers ready to buy, freeing peak-season capacity for high-value new calls. If you're ready to stop riding the weather and start building a predictable revenue engine, this conversation is your playbook. In this episode of SoTellUs Time, Trevor and Troy Howard break down what smart entrepreneurs do when business gets quiet — and how YOU can turn any slow season into a launchpad for long-term success.
What if creativity isn't about doing more — but about trusting the seasons of your life? This week on the Embodied Podcast, I sat down with East Coast musician Christina Martin for a heartfelt conversation about music, healing, and the courage to trust yourself. Christina's creative journey isn't linear — and that's what makes it inspiring. Growing up on the windswept coast of Nova Scotia, she learned early to navigate loss, trauma, and the slow work of rebuilding trust. Trust the slow season Looking back now, she sees creativity as a cycle — one that requires rest, reflection, and space. “There were times I felt guilty for not having the energy to keep doing, doing, doing,” Christina shared. “But looking back, I see now — when the call comes, you're fueled. And when you follow that, it's a pretty cool ride.” This is what we explored together — letting go, trusting the quiet seasons, and allowing healing to happen in your own time.Healing happens in relationship Christina shared openly about her process as an artist — and as a woman learning to trust herself again after loss and betrayal. Over time, supportive relationships helped her heal and rebuild trust — with herself, her creativity, and with others. “It was a big thing for me... when I start to feel this sense of I don't want to hurt somebody or maybe my feelings aren't valid... It's because my body is still remembering a bit of this pain.
