A rematch of the 2020 presidential election seems unavoidable. Most voters may be disappointed by the choice between Joe Biden and Donald Trump, whose victory in the New Hampshire Republican primary made his nomination a near certainty. President Biden and Donald Trump will have to craft clear messages about their visions for 2024. “It's not really … a solution to an American problem that they're trying to pitch to voters,” says Sarah Isgur, senior editor at The Dispatch. She argues that winning voters will depend on Biden and Trump's stances on issues that strike a “cultural nerve.” As part of our 50 States series, we discuss the Supreme Court's decision to hear a case in Grants Pass, Oregon, that could determine how western states can address a growing homelessness problem.

Welcome to #Millennial, the home of pretend adulting and real talk! We're watching the results of the New Hampshire Republican primary come in over the course of this show, but tbh, there were no big surprises. Friend of the show and host of Shaken and Disturbed John Thrasher is back with us this week to talk about the intersection of true crime and stan culture. We ask John to specifically look at the recent release of Gypsy Rose Blanchard, who served 8 years in prison on second degree murder charges in the killing of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard. Gypsy Rose has seemingly gone from inmate to influencer overnight. Is there a pipeline from prison to fame? After the initial spike in interest and popularity, some of the social media tides seem to be shifting as more detractors speak up about the attention and celebrity being afforded to Gypsy Rose. Does stan culture in general infantilize high-profile people and make their hardcore fans operate under the delusion that they can do no wrong? We touch on famous figures we used to stan and when and why those shifts happened for us. Are we guilty of confirmation bias? This week's recommendations are across the board: "American Nightmare" on Netflix (Laura), Love's travel stops for a delightful roadtrip experience (Andrew), StoryGraph for reading recommendations (Pam), and Pokémon Go for the throwback and motivation to get outside (John). And in this week's installment of After Dark: Friendship bitch fest! We love our friends, but they're not always the best at communicating or making plans. "I don't know what to do for my boyfriend's birthday, can you give me ideas? Also you're not invited." PSA: A friend agreeing to be in your wedding is doing you a favor. According to a Suffolk University/NBC10 Boston/Boston Globe tracking poll published on Monday, Trump leads Haley by 19 points. Trump received 57 percent support and Haley received 38 percent. With DeSantis dropping out of the race on Sunday, Haley gained two points. The poll was conducted between January 20 and 21 of 500 likely Republican primary voters in the state. The poll has a margin of error of 4.4 percent. A Washington Post/Monmouth University poll, also released on Monday, placed Trump 18 points ahead of Haley, with 52 percent supporting the president and 34 percent backing Haley. DeSantis received 8 percent support, as the poll was conducted before the Florida governor dropped out of the race. This poll was conducted between January 16 and 20 of 712 potential voters in the New Hampshire Republican primary and has a margin of error of 4.2 percent. https://www.frontpagemag.com/vermont-resettled-somalis-shootings-are-up-185/ Vermont Resettled Somalis, Shootings Are Up 185% Shootings are up 185% in Vermont from 2021 to 2022. “We are not used to this level of violence in Vermont,” Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger complained after the city racked up 5 murders. That may not sound like much, but it gives the normally sleepy city, where Bernie Sanders got his start, a higher murder rate than Philly. When James Eaton, a mentally unstable leftist who had praised Hamas, shot and wounded three Arab Muslim men outside his home, the media eagerly diverted attention from the crime wave to the shooter, who was conveniently white, while falsely blaming it on ‘Islamophobia’. The discredited hoax was not only trying to rally support for terrorists, but also to distract attention from the real perpetrators of the violence that has overtaken Bernie’s old city. The shooters in Burlington, VT are much more likely to be Muslim male teens. Another recent shooting out of Burlington made the national news when Hussein Mohamed, the underage son of Somali immigrants who don’t speak English, shot and killed Madden: a local 14-year-old boy. It was reported that “state police were able to make an arrest despite at least two eyewitnesses from the car providing multiple false statements about the crime.” The murder wave in Burlington was touched off in 2022 when a Muslim teen, shot and killed Hussein Mubarak, 21. The 19-year-old had been part of a Somali Muslim refugee family profiled by the New York Times under the headline “U.S. a Place of Miracles for Somali Refugees.” Of that family, one son was convicted of assault with a firearm, another of “aggravated assault for shooting a man in November 2020” and the 19-year-old was the grandson of that same family. The teen had allegedly become a member of a Somali gang that stole cars while “wearing surgical gloves to avoid leaving fingerprints behind” and two of them had attacked a man in broad daylight while wearing ski masks. Mubarak had been born in a refugee camp before his family was resettled in America where his “older and younger siblings” spent time in jail, while he turned to selling drugs. The reporting on the incident and other violent encounters in Burlington are littered with mentions of drug dealing, stolen cars and guns, shootings in garages and names like Mohamed, Ahmed Mohamed, Badal Khadka and Abukar. Abukar Hilowle was accused of a few shootings, including one in which he allegedly shot the driver of the car he was in, resulting in a car crash, and another in which he shot two middle-aged American men on the street, one of whom had told him to “chill”, but the Muslim perpetrator claimed that he was responding to “racial slurs” by his two victims. In 2022 it was reported that, “by mid-summer, about half of the city’s gunfire incidents were connected to a small group of new American young men.” The inaccurate euphemism “new Americans“ was being used to refer to Somali and other often Muslim African immigrants. The perps are usually repeat offenders who wander in and out of the justice system. In 2020, another Somali was arrested for aggravated assault during a fight over drugs. By 2022, when he was accused of trying to shoot his brother, he had racked up 47 police contacts and 11 arrests. Despite being briefly charged with attempted murder, his family refused to testify and he received a plea deal last year for time served. Mayor Miro Weinberger however has claimed that the role of migrant settler teens in the wave of violence is not “particularly relevant”. When the three Arab Muslim men were shot, State’s Attorney Sarah George rushed to claim, without a shred of evidence, that, “there is no question this was a hateful act.” But the Soros DA has been accused of giving violent drug gang members a pass for the sake of social justice. Burlington’s crime level rose sharply after the City Council had voted to defund 30% of the police department during the peak of the BLM race riots. Burlington City Councilor Ali Dieng, an African Muslim immigrant who has run for mayor, has attacked the police while introducing resolutions to boycott Israel and has urged funding for social services to explore the “root causes” of the violence by members of his community. Only a few hundred Somali Muslims were resettled in Burlington with horrifying consequences. The question in Burlington, VT and across a nation under siege by hate, extremism, violence, crime and terror spread by first, second and third generation ‘refugees’ is how much more can we take, how many more lives can we lose and how long can we go on living this way? https://nypost.com/2024/01/22/business/in-n-out-burger-in-oakland-to-close-doors-for-good-over-of-out-of-control-crime-company-says/ In-N-Out Burger in Oakland to close doors for good over of out-of-control crime, company says In-N-Out Burger’s only location in Oakland is closing after the cherished fast-food joint decided it could no longer risk the safety of fed-up workers and patrons in the city plagued by recent crime. The location will shut its doors in March — despite the burger spot turning a profit — because of the constant crime in the community, In-N-Out Chief Operating Officer Denny Warnick said in a sudden announcement over the weekend. The fast food joint has been in the California city for 18 years. “Despite taking repeated steps to create safer conditions, our Customers and Associates are regularly victimized by car break-ins, property damage, theft, and armed robberies,” Warnick wrote, according to CBS East Bay, which obtained the announcement. “Additionally, this location remains a busy and profitable one for the company, but our top priority must be the safety and wellbeing of our Customers and Associates – we cannot ask them to visit or work in an unsafe environment,” he said. Data released by Oakland police at the start of the new year showed robberies increased 38% from 2022 to 2023, ABC 7 Bay Area reported. Burglaries jumped 23% year-to-year and motor vehicle theft spiked 44%, the data showed. Workers at Oakland’s In-N-Out can either transfer to another one of the company’s fast-food restaurants or accept a severance package. https://www.breitbart.com/sports/2024/01/20/the-kingdom-belongs-to-you-lord-ravens-john-harbaugh-opens-post-game-presser-by-reading-bible-verse/ ‘The Kingdom Belongs to You, Lord’: Ravens’ John Harbaugh Opens Post-Game Presser by Reading Bible Verse On Saturday, the Baltimore Ravens won their biggest game since they last won the Super Bowl over ten years ago. In the 2024 Iowa Republican caucus, the former President made an impressive showing with an unequivocal advantage. His clear dominance was such that CNN found themselves compelled to declare him the victor of the decisive Iowa caucus. His strong position came as no surprise, with observations of his steady lead in the Republican primaries pointing to an expected victory. According to CNN's report, out of all potential caucus-goers, nearly half preferred him as their top choice, while other potential candidates trailed significantly. Subsequent candidates such as the past South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley and the incumbent Florida Governor, Ron DeSantis, could garner support from only 20% and 16% of caucus-goers respectively. As per their report, the remaining of the field managed to claim less than 10% of the intended caucus-goer votes. The trend of the former President's stronghold continued from earlier polls conducted in December and October, revealing his firm grip over a majority of potential caucus-goers. Among those who participated in the caucus, a significant 68% were certain about their choice, with supporters' loyalty heightened during the final campaigning period from January 7 to January 12. In this group, a remarkable 82% of the former President's supporters had firmly committed to his campaign, an increase from 70% in December. This unwavering support contrasted with that of the followership of Nikki Haley and Ron DeSantis, whose committed voter bases were 63% and 64% respectively. Notably, it was the first time a majority of their supporters solidified through NBC/DMR's poll measure tracking. One weekend, the former President took a critical public stance against Fox News, accusing the network of backing his Republican primary opponents unduly. His disdain was particularly aimed at their coverage of a poll that had been purportedly conducted by CNN; the poll suggested that Nikki Haley remained a single digit trailing agitator in the New Hampshire Republican primary. The former head of state dismissed the poll as an 'outlier' that didn't align with the real scenario. Moreover, the former President expressed his disapproval of Steve Doocy, a prominent Fox & Friends anchor. In his social platform, he alluded to Doocy's futile attempts in 'saving DeSanctimonious', a term that can be interpreted metaphorically for his competitor, Florida's Governor Ron DeSantis. This official critique appeared to be a direct response to DeSantis' campaign strategies, including his bid on resources and his attempt toward notable performance in the Iowa caucuses. In New Hampshire, a poll conducted by CNN and the University of New Hampshire disclosed Nikki Haley's less than preferred position behind the former President, standing at 32% against 39%. However, the ex-President's nationwide stronghold over the Republican primary field remained unscathed with a substantial lead over DeSantis. Within the confines of Iowa, the former President led with an overwhelming margin of 30 points over DeSantis, as stated by FiveThirtyEight's poll tracker. Even though DeSantis had dedicated considerable resources for campaigning within Iowa, which comprised visits to all the 99 counties and securing an endorsement from Governor Kim Reynolds, he couldn't shrink the significant lead established by the former President. The already expanding popularity among average Americans and working-class demographic was only gaining more momentum for the former President, with noticeable acceleration since the last few months. Fresh polling data from The Center Square, in coordination with Noble Predictive Insights, further evidenced the former President's solid support base, especially among Republican voters earning under $50,000 and those without a college degree. The polls included 2,573 potential voters and showed that an impressive majority preferred the former President over any of his GOP challengers. Among them, 61% opted for him, leaving other candidates trailing with less considerable figures. Nikki Haley and Ron DeSantis, former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations and Florida's Governor, secured the support of just 13% and 12% of the voters, respectively. Businessman Vivek Ramaswamy could bag only 7%, while the former New Jersey Governor, Chris Christie, despite having suspended his campaign, could still garner 2% as reported by The Center Square. Evidently, no other candidate could even come close to the former President's foothold of support across probable Republican voters and Republican-leaning voters. A segment of the analysis confirmed the strength and width of the former President's support among voters from different income categories. Among voters earning less than $50,000 annually, the former President captured 70% support. A slightly lower dominance was observed among those earning between $50,000 to $100,000, where he stood at 58%, and the figure dropped a little further to 51% among those earning over $100,000 a year. However, even at the decreased percentage, the combined support for the former President outpaced that of all his Republican competitors together in all income groups. Voters with no college degree were found to rally behind him substantially, with a 68% support rate, significantly more than the 48% support he enjoyed among those with a degree. This immense popularity among diverse socioeconomic groups further attests to the broad appeal of the former President among the Republican base. Overall, the Iowa Republican caucus results and subsequent polling data reaffirm the enduring influence of the seasoned politician. Against his challenger candidates in the primaries, he demonstrated a robust position that reflects his strategic campaign and high degree of support from various quarters. His dominance looks set to continue, indicating he may be a strong contender for the Republican ticket in the 2024 presidential race. While individual contenders remain, they have yet to gain enough momentum to effectively challenge his leadership within the party. Given this, it will be interesting to see how these dynamics evolve in the upcoming months leading to the primary elections. It is clear, however, that even amid competitors making strategic moves, resorting to endorsements, or trying out varied campaign strategies, the former President remains a force within his party. His preponderance is incisively recognized among those who are targeted by different campaigns. His formidable strength comes from his unwavering supporters, who stay committed despite alternative options. According to reports, the U.S. hit over sixty targets using precision guided missiles, including some launched from submarines. The strike was in response to persistent attacks against U.S. personnel and shipping vessels in the Red Sea which have negatively impacted international shipping. But did President Joe Biden constitutionally have the authority to unilaterally authorize these strikes? Or did this infringe upon Congress' authority? 3:15pm- In a statement following a U.S.-led strike against Houthi rebels in Yemen, President Joe Biden explained recent attacks by the Iranian-backed militia group have “endangered U.S. personnel, civilian mariners and our partners, jeopardized trade and threatened freedom of navigation. More than 50 nations have been affected in 27 attacks on international commercial shipping. Crews from more than 20 countries have been threatened or taken hostage in acts of piracy. More than 2,000 ships have been forced to divert thousands of miles to avoid the Red Sea—which can cause weeks of delays in product shipping times. And on Jan. 9, Houthis launched their largest attack to date—directly targeting American ships.” You can read the President's full statement here: https://www.nytimes.com/2024/01/11/us/politics/biden-statement-strikes-yemen-houthis.html 3:30pm- In a recent email, the Chief Diversity Officer at Johns Hopkins University offered a bizarre new definition of “privilege” which included anyone white, able-bodied, heterosexual, cisgender, Christians, the middle-aged, and English-speaking—as well as several other characteristics. A recently released University of New Hampshire/CNN poll indicates Haley is trailing former President Donald Trump by only seven-points in the New Hampshire Republican presidential primary—39% to 32%. Interestingly, Christie is garnering 12% support. Could Christie's absence put Haley over the top in NH? Just prior to announcing the suspension of his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination, Chris Christie was caught on a hot microphone saying that Nikki Haley is going to be “smoked” in the upcoming Iowa caucus and New Hampshire primary. Does this make endorsing Haley, as many presumed he would, impossible now? On Thursday, Donald Trump's team delivered its closing arguments in a civil fraud trial in which New York Attorney General Letitia James alleges that the former president inflated the value of assets controlled by the Trump Organization in past financial statements. If Trump loses the case, he could face up to $370 million in fines and penalties as well as being permanently prohibited from doing business in the state of New York. Notably, in 2018, while campaigning to become Attorney General, James vowed to “sue” Trump—providing evidence to the defense's argument that this civil suit is entirely political.   Jonah E. Bromwich, Ben Protess, and Kate Christobek of The New York Times write: “Donald J. Trump on Thursday delivered abrupt remarks in his own defense on the final day of his civil fraud trial in Manhattan, attacking the New York attorney general, who brought the case, insulting the judge to his face and declaring himself ‘an innocent man.'Mr. Trump's remarks…lasted only minutes, during which he impugned the attorney general, Letitia James, a Democrat, saying she ‘hates Trump and uses Trump to get elected.' He also took aim at the judge, Arthur F. Engoron, remarking, ‘You have your own agenda, I certainly understand that.' He added, as the judge stared stonily at him, ‘You can't listen for more than one minute.' Justice Engoron instructed the former president's lawyer to ‘control your client.' But Mr. Trump continued until the lunch break, at which point he stopped as suddenly as he had started. The episode ushered in a dramatic conclusion to a monthslong trial that has enraged the former president and threatens his family business.” You can read more here: https://www.nytimes.com/live/2024/01/11/nyregion/trump-fraud-trial

The challenge for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the primary federal agency charged with law enforcement, is to pursue and prevent what it calls domestic terrorism without direct reference to political parties or affiliations—even though the vast majority of its current ‘anti-government' investigations are of Trump supporters, according to classified data obtained by Newsweek.” You can read the full article here: https://www.newsweek.com/2023/10/13/exclusive-fbi-targets-trump-followers-2024-election-nears-1831836.html According to a new Suffolk University/Boston Globe/USA Today poll, former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley has surpassed Gov. Born in Michigan on March 12, 1947, Mitt Romney is the son of former Michigan Governor George Romney. He founded the investment firm Bain Capital and later ran for the Massachusetts Senate in 1994, losing to incumbent Ted Kennedy. Romney took over the Salt Lake Organizing Committee and helmed a successful 2002 Olympic Games. He became governor of Massachusetts in 2003 and made a run for the Republican nomination in the 2008 election, losing to candidate John McCain. Romney made a second run for the U.S. presidency in 2012, with U.S. Representative Paul Ryan of Wisconsin as his running mate, but was ultimately defeated by President Barack Obama in a tight race. The son of George Romney, a former governor of Michigan who ran for the Republican Party's presidential nomination in 1968 (he was defeated by Richard Nixon), Mitt Romney began his career in business. He worked for the management consulting firm Bain & Company before founding the investment firm Bain Capital in 1984. A decade later, in 1994, he ran for a seat in the U.S. Senate in Massachusetts but was defeated by longtime incumbent Ted Kennedy.Romney stepped into the national spotlight in 1999, when he took over as president of the Salt Lake Organizing Committee. He helped rescue the 2002 Winter Olympic Games from financial and ethical woes and helmed the successful Salt Lake City Games in 2002.Romney parlayed his success with the Olympics into politics when he was elected governor of Massachusetts in 2003. During Romney's term as governor, he oversaw the reduction of a $3 billion deficit. He also signed into law a health-care reform program to provide nearly universal health care for Massachusetts residents. After serving one term as governor, Romney declined to run for re-election and announced his bid for the U.S. presidency. He made it through Super Tuesday, winning primaries in Massachusetts, Alaska, Minnesota, Colorado, and Utah before losing the Republican nomination to Senator John McCain of Arizona. According to reports, Romney spent about $110 million on his campaign, including $45 million of his own money.Romney continued to keep his options open for a possible future presidential run. He maintained much of his political staff and political action committees and raised funds for fellow Republican candidates. In March 2010, Romney published the book No Apology: The Case for American Greatness, which debuted on The New York Times' best-seller list.At a farm in New Hampshire on June 2, 2011, Mitt Romney announced the official start of his campaign for the 2012 presidential election. During his campaign, Romney took many standard Republican positions on taxes, the economy and fighting terrorism, while consistently and vocally criticizing his opponent, Democrat President Barack Obama. Specifically, Romney denounced President Obama's health-care reform program—a stance that earned him criticism from the press, as the president's health-care plan is similar to the Massachusetts plan that Romney supported as governor. Additionally, throughout the 2012 presidential race, critics charged Romney with changing his position on several key issues, including abortion; Romney supported Roe v. Wade—the U.S. Supreme Court decision upholding a woman's right to an abortion—while campaigning for a Senate seat in 1994, but maintained an ardent pro-life stance throughout his 2012 campaign for the presidency. From the start of his campaign, Romney emerged as the frontrunner for the Republican nomination. He showed more mainstream Republican appeal than Tea Party-backed competitors like Texas Governor Rick Perry. In January 2012, Romney scored a decisive victory in the New Hampshire Republican primary. He captured more than 39 percent of votes, way ahead of his competitors, including Ron Paul and Jon Huntsman. As the race continued, Rick Santorum became his greatest competition, winning several states. However, Romney secured a substantial lead in the number of delegates needed to clinch the nomination. In April 2012, Romney benefitted from a narrowing of the field when Santorum announced that he was suspending his campaign. Romney publicly paid tribute to his former rival, saying that Santorum "has proved himself to be an important voice in our party and in the nation." Following Santorum's departure, Romney only had two opponents left—Ron Paul and Newt Gingrich. Gingrich threw in the towel that May.Romney's campaign met with negative publicity in July 2012, when President Obama's campaign ran ads claiming that Romney was the head of Bain Capital until 2001, not until 1999 as Romney had previously stated. Around that same time, news reports began to circulate regarding economy-stifling practices by Bain Capital; according to the reports, Romney's company had invested in several businesses that specialized in relocating jobs overseas. The reports, along with Obama's ads, were huge blows to the Romney campaign. But Romney's campaign fired back with its own political ads, which claimed that Obama was more interested in helping his donors than looking out for the American public. This was only the beginning of the slinging of barbs and arrows that would occur between the two candidates along the campaign trail.Later in July 2012, Romney made headlines again, this time for comments he made while attending the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London; in an interview with NBC, Romney stated that London's preparations for the Games were somewhat "disconcerting," spurring outrage from citizens of the city and viewers worldwide. According to The Guardian, following the NBC broadcast, Prime Minister David Cameron rebuked Romney's remarks, stating, "We are holding an Olympic Games in one of the busiest, most active, bustling cities in the world. Of course, it's easier if you hold an Olympic Games in the middle of nowhere," referencing Romney's lead over the 2002 Salt Lake City Games. In response to the criticism, Romney later retracted, stating, "I am very delighted with the prospects of a highly successful Olympic Games. What I have seen shows imagination and forethought and a lot of organization and [I] expect the Games to be highly successful," according to The Guardian. In August 2012, Romney announced 42-year-old U.S. Representative Paul Ryan of Wisconsin as his running mate for vice president. The announcement ended months-long speculation over the potential vice-presidential candidates of the 2012 election, as media attention began to heavily focus on Ryan, a fiscal conservative and chair of the House of Representatives Budget Committee. On August 28, 2012, Romney became the Republican Party's official presidential nominee, receiving 2,061 delegate votes—nearly double the required 1,144—on the first day of the 2012 Republican National Convention, held in Tampa, Florida. During the convention, election candidates Romney and Ryan received support from several fellow Republican politicians, including Romney's competitor in the 2008 Republican presidential primaries, John McCain. "For four years, we have drifted away," McCain said at the convention. "People don't want less of America, they want more. What they want to know is, whether we still have faith ... Mitt Romney has that faith, and I trust him to lead us."Romney made headlines after the first presidential debate with Barack Obama in early October 2012. He gave a strong performance, receiving praise for his speaking skills from citizens and critics alike. Most critics agreed that Romney won the debate and that his performance significantly boosted his public perception and status in the presidential race. However, Obama was praised for his performance during the second and third debates, with many critics claiming that the president had won both.As each state announced its election results on November 6, 2012, many Americans clung to the edge of their seats. Just before midnight, the results were announced: In a tight race, Romney was defeated by Barack Obama, with the president receiving just over half of the popular vote and around 60 percent of the electoral vote.

In this election year of 2016, our country faces one of the worst political showdowns in the history of America.  Each candidate seems to only be fueling a fire of rage from their opponent and doing nothing but throwing punches and accusations at each other.  The media seems like it only wants to be the ringleader of this 2 person circus and only focus on what these two clowns are wanting to do to our country.  Our great country seems to almost be at it's darkest hour, hope is bleak, faith in government wavers, and trust is all but gone.  Empty promises fill the air leaving many of us scared to make a choice in our future and the future of our children.  Within a few weeks the landscape of nation will be completely different and a new president will be crowned.
