Wisconsin's livestock market has been topsy turvy with incredible prices for any beef cattle. Curt Larson, President and CEO of the Equity Cooperative Livestock Sales Association, talks to Jill Welke about the marketing cycle they've witnessed at sale barns. He also projects what he's anticipating for livestock movement and prices going forward in 2025. Sunshine returns to the forecast today, according to Stu Muck. With high egg prices and limited supplies, many people have decided to try and grow their own. That's a great option, but you need to be aware of some of the regulations and laws that are in place to protect other farms and flocks. Stephanie Hoff talks to someone who's lived through a flock depopulation. Scott Schneider is an egg producer out of Lake Mills and he sits on the board of directors for the Wisconsin Livestock Identification Consortium. He knows firsthand how HPAI can damage a commercial flock. He dealt with it in 2015 when his flock was wiped out. This should motivate livestock owners to register and/or renew their premise ID through the Wisconsin Livestock Identification Consortium. For one, it's the law. Second, it's to protect livestock owners from disease outbreaks. The first crop progress report of the season was released on Monday. While there's not much to report for Wisconsin farmers, there's ample concern about weather patterns elsewhere. Matthew Bennett, co-founder of AgMarketing.net, says there's a 60% chance that drought could impact national production averages. John Heinberg, market advisor with Total Farm Marketing, joins Pam Jahnke to discuss the latest trends in tariffs and the impact it's having on the marketplace. The U.S. remains the place international buyers are going for corn, while South America's harvest continues. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

It’s time to renew your premise ID. If you have livestock – maybe you’re milking 3,000 cows or maybe you’ve just started a chicken flock in your backyard with three birds. Registering your premise with the Wisconsin Livestock Identification Consortium is the law. WLIC manages these premise registrations for the state. If there’s an animal disease outbreak, it allows the state to come up with a plan to protect livestock owners. Scott Schneider of Nature Link Farms knows firsthand how detrimental a disease outbreak can be for a commercial flock - he’s dealt with the highly pathogenic avian influenza on his farm. Scott has a cage-free egg-laying operation near Lake Mills. He produces about 20,000 dozens of eggs per day. He says consumers also feel the effect of a disease outbreak, starting with the price of eggs in the grocery store. Register your premise at wiid.org. For this episode of the DCF Show podcast, DCF Editor in Chief Matt Vincent spoke with Callum Morrison, Account Director of Cologix; and Wayne Lloyd, CEO of Consensus Core. A new collaboration announced in August 20024 between Consensus Core and Cologix launches the first NVIDIA-powered GPU as a Service (GPUaaS) in the Montreal market, making Cologix's MTL10 data center the inaugural hub for high-performance AI workloads in Montreal.  During the interview, we discuss: • What GPU-as-a-Service (GPUaaS) is and why it's so valuable to businesses looking to leverage AI. • Why connectivity and interconnection are critical to support AI applications.  • How Canada's AI initiative is driving growth and adoption of AI. • The two companies' vision for the future of AI-ready data centers in Canada Cologix is the largest data center provider in Montréal with 12 facilities and has a Canadian interconnection ecosystem of 350 networks, 200+ cloud providers, 15 public cloud onramps and three internet exchanges. Cologix, who bills itself as one of the "leading network-neutral interconnection and hyperscale edge data center" companies in North America, announced the collaboration with Consensus Core, an AI cloud service provider, to support the needs of AI technologies at its MTL10 ScalelogixSM data center in Montréal, Canada.  The collaboration enables Consensus Core to launch a new, NVIDIA-powered GPU-as-a-Service (GPUaaS) in the Canadian market and transforms MTL10 into a hub for its high-performance AI workloads. “As a registered member of the NVIDIA Partner Network, Consensus Core will supercharge AI in Canada,” said Consensus Core CEO Lloyd, who is also a company co-founder.  “Implementing AI in data centers with the powerful NVIDIA accelerated computing platform requires a specialized approach. We have selected Cologix to address this need. As a Canadian company, we sought a partner offering colocation services for GPUs for both Canadian and international clients. Cologix's hyperscale and highly interconnected data centers enable us to densify and scale our services to meet customer demands efficiently.” Unlike general cloud services that use general-purpose platforms for a wide range of applications, GPUaaS provides specialized, high-performance computing for specific AI tasks.  This benefits companies that want to start doing AI workloads because instead of buying and maintaining their own physical servers and hardware, they can get access to NVIDIA accelerated computing on a per-hour basis from companies like Consensus Core. This means less downtime waiting for delivery and easy-to-use tools to deliver business results faster. Background In October 2024, Cologix announced capital raises of $1.5 billion USD to fuel its next stage of strategic growth by accelerating expansion of AI-ready data centers across key North American markets. Cologix plans to use the capital to support the ongoing build out of large-scale campuses in its core markets, including Ashburn, Columbus and Montréal, as well as to begin new builds on recently acquired land in Columbus, Des Moines and Vancouver. Upon full build out, all of the operator's planned data center construction can support over 650 critical megawatts (MW) of sellable capacity.   The infusion of capital received strong investor demand, underscoring investor confidence in Cologix's proven business model, growth potential and ability to execute on its strategic initiatives.  The capital raises include a $1.0 billion USD revolving multi-asset development debt facility and an additional $500 million USD in equity from both new and existing investors.  The debt facility is structured to provide Cologix with the flexibility to add new sites over time, offering quick access to capital to fund development projects as needed.  Both the debt and equity raises received strong investor demand and were oversubscribed, underscoring their confidence in Cologix's proven business model, growth potential and ability to execute on its strategic initiatives. "This is a significant milestone for Cologix and demonstrates the continued trust of our investors, both new and existing," said Scott Schneider, CFO of Cologix. "The combination of debt and equity financing provides us with the flexibility and capital to keep pace with the growing demand for digital infrastructure, particularly as AI, hybrid cloud and interconnection requirements expand. This financing ensures we can continue to scale and deliver on our customers' needs in a dynamic market." The $1.5 billion USD in financing announced in October followed the company's successful $1.13 billion USD and $1.07 billion CAD asset-backed securitizations since 2021, as well as a $3.0 billion USD equity recapitalization in 2022, all of which added to positioning Cologix for sustained growth. Deployment NVIDIA's H100 Tensor Core GPU-accelerated clusters will power Consensus Core's GPUaaS operated in Cologix's Montréal data center. NVIDIA H100 extends the NVIDIA A100 Tensor Core GPU's global-to-shared asynchronous transfer capabilities across all address spaces and adds support for tensor memory access patterns. It enables applications to build end-to-end asynchronous pipelines that move data into and off the chip, completely overlapping and hiding data movement with computation. MTL10 is among Cologix's largest network-neutral data centers, offering connectivity via high-count, diverse and scalable fiber with direct access to the Meet-Me-Room (MMR) in Montréal at Cologix's MTL3 facility. The data center also offers strong interconnection capabilities to build and scale businesses with more than 100 unique network providers and low-latency connections to hyperscale cloud providers. MTL10 is a 180,000-square-foot, purpose-built facility that is ISO 27001 certified by Schellman and HIPAA, SOC1, SOC2 and PCI compliant. “We're thrilled to partner with Consensus Core to bring its GPUaaS offering to Canada,” said Sean Maskell, President and General Manager of Cologix Canada, in a press relesae. “Consensus Core's innovative solution fills a critical gap in the market, empowering businesses of all sizes to leverage the immense power of AI and machine learning. At Cologix, we are deeply committed to supporting the growth of the Canadian technology sector, and this collaboration demonstrates our dedication to providing the essential infrastructure and services that businesses need to thrive in today's world.” The companies contend that their new collaboration between Cologix and Consensus Core positions MTL10 as the premier hub for high-performance AI in Canada, providing businesses with the infrastructure and tools required to take advantage of the full potential of AI technologies. Podcast During the podcast, Morrison and Lloyd discuss their companies' collaboration on the new AI service and the transition of Consensus Core from specializing in crypto infrastructure to AI, with a focus on GPU as a Service. Wayne explains how this service allows companies to access AI capabilities by overcoming challenges related to chips, power, and data center capacity. Callum highlights Cologix's partnership with Nvidia to enhance efficiency and scalability.  The conversation emphasizes the growing demand for power in AI deployment stakes and the importance of scaling deployments to achieve successful business outcomes. Specific questions for Callum and Wayne regarding the announced collaboration to empower businesses in Canada to leverage the power of AI and machine learning with NVIDIA-Powered GPU-as-a-Service included: What is GPUaaS and how does it fit into the infrastructure ecosystem? How does the collaboration between Cologix and Consensus Core deliver GPUaaS? What are the benefits for businesses? Do Cologix and Consensus Core have plans to expand their collaboration in Canada and/or other markets?

There is no doubt that politics affects education. With a new administration likely to take office in January, what are the changes we can expect to see in Title IX space under Joe Biden's presidency? In this episode, Jody Shipper, Title IX consultant and Managing Director at Grand River Solutions, Scott Schneider, litigator and lawyer at Husch Blackwell, and Joe Storch, in-house counsel at SUNY, share their unique perspectives on the implications of the election on Title IX. We kick off with a recap of the developments that have happened in the last 90 days under the Trump administration, including the controversial diversity executive order. As we know, this has been a busy summer in the Title IX space. While everyone has been working furiously to get their ducks in a row, many of us can't help but wonder if the hard work will go to waste should the regulations fall away. Jody, Scott and Joe all share their view on this issue.  The conversation also covers the circuit courts' handling of Title IX issues and the lack of uniformity as well as the single investigator model. We wrap up with a look at 2021, where we hear how we can prepare for the upcoming year. It was a great conversation, so be sure to tune in today!   Key Points From This Episode: Implications of the developments in the Title IX space over the past 90 days under the Trump administration. Why Jody recommends taking the Clery Act training with Joe. What Scott predicts will happen under the Biden administration with the diversity executive order. The work that Barack Obama did around the Office for Civil Rights with respect to Title IX. Why Jody believes that even if the regulations fall away, the work put in is not for nothing. Some of the important takeaways from working on the regulations over the summer. Joe's regrets over the time spent focusing on compliance rather than issues like student mental health this summer. What stands out to Scott about the regulations and important conversations that have resulted. Why Joe finds it interesting that Doe v. Baum has not been adopted uniformly across the circuit courts. Positive changes in the evidence review processes that have come with the regulations. The inconsistent application of the constitutional due process at private schools across different issues. Jody's argument for – in specific cases only – the single investigator model. The important distinction some courts have made between reliability and credibility cases. Why Joe feels the outrage at the single investigator model is somewhat unfounded. Scott's take on what might happen in the compliance and enforcement space under Joe Biden. Finals words from the guests on preparing for 2021.   Tweetables: “From a compliance standpoint, it wouldn't surprise me if there was more activity around Clery enforcement than probably any other administration.” — @EdLawDude [0:09:04] “Reviewing your policies shouldn't be something that only happens when there's a change in the presidential administration or new regulatory framework. It needs to happen more often.” — @JodyShipper [0:12:10] “We've all talked about how sad we've become that this issue that we all care about and have devoted our careers to has become part of a political atmosphere. Red Title IX; Blue Title IX. I think we all yearn for a day when it returns to doing the right thing under civil rights law and the law and regulations.” — @JosephStorchNY [0:15:15] “Everyone should be doing in January what they were doing in October, November, and December, in other words, right now, and the same thing for February, March, and April, unless and until there is something new that comes out that changes the approach.” — @JodyShipper [0:37:48] “I am a little worried that sometimes our Title IX coordinators are focusing way too much attention on some small details and maybe missing bigger narratives.” — @EdLawDude [0:40:39] “Our best response will never be as good as a prevented violation.” — @JosephStorchNY [0:42:52]   Links Mentioned in Today's Episode: Joe Storch Joe Storch on Twitter SUNY Jody Shipper Jody Shipper on Twitter Grand River Solutions Scott Schneider Scott Schneider on Twitter Husch Blackwell John Graff on Twitter Higher Ground Podcast Joe Biden Kamala Harris The Handbook for Campus Safety and Security Barack Obama Office for Civil Rights Doe v. At no time in U.S. history has higher ed faced so many simultaneous challenges as it does now. Race relations, social issues, the free speech debate, scandal, law enforcement challenges, Department of Education enforcement, a new Title IX regulation, and COVID-19. Higher education has been confronted with enterprise-wide threats due the coronavirus pandemic, which have become significantly more complex in light of the many other quickly evolving issues that test the resources of an institution. In this episode, Scott Schneider, joins me to discuss the complexity of higher ed's COVID-19 crisis in light of other rapidly developing events and the need to learn from the recent past to get ready for the near future. We also discuss how we might go about handling a scandal crisis from the perspective of in-house counsel.Media mentions:George Washington University Professor Who Lied About Being Black Resigns https://www.chronicle.com/article/george-washington-u-professor-who-lied-about-being-black-resigns.Is Academe Awash in Liberal Bias https://www.chronicle.com/article/is-academe-awash-in-liberal-biasFalwell Resigns Following Reports of Tryst. Today we're flipping the script to bring you an interview where your host Courtney Bullard features as a guest on the Higher Ground podcast with John Graff. In this episode, Courtney, John, and Scott Schneider discuss COVID-19, the NPRM and its implications, and more. These two men are respected colleagues in the industry; some might recall Scott being a former guest on the show. Scott is a well-known litigator, as well as a sought-after advisor on Title IX, labor and employment law issues, and risk management concerns related to student affairs. He has led several investigations of serial sex abuse allegations, allegations of misconduct involving senior leadership and other acts of institutional misconduct. Their discussion today involves weighing up the pros and cons of rolling out the new Title IX regulations in the current COVID environment, why it might not be worth postponing, and what these new regulations will mean for educational institutions and students. A big concern is that the suggested policies will discourage schools from conducting hearing processes, which in turn will deter students from reporting incidents. On the positive side, the new policies might lead to an increase in informal resolution type processes, although this comes with its own set of risks. Be sure to join the conversation to learn everything there is to know about the current status of new Title IX regs!   Key Points From This Episode: The rumors about the Title IX regulation changes and the compliance deadline. Hear how several state attorneys general are filing lawsuits against the DoED.  An explanation of what it means when an injunction motion is filed against an institution. Courtney's thoughts on whether higher ed would like to see the current regulations blocked. The pros and cons of implementing the new regs now versus postponing compliance. Find out what it was like for Scott to sit in live hearings for small private schools. The inevitable mistakes involved in implementing new regulations and how it affects students. How the outcome for role players is directly tied to the level of experience of investigators. Concerns about the time it takes to train higher ed to handle hearings each time changes are introduced. How the new policies discourage schools from conducting hearing processes and what it means for victims. Why it is likely that we will see a significant upsurge in informal resolution type processes. The difficulty of parents and students accurately evaluating the outcome of a Title IX hearing. Courtney's thoughts on the triaging of Title IX cases in the current remote pandemic model. Is it possible to deliver on the promises for support made in the annual security reports?  Factors to consider when thinking about reopening schools and campuses. Other concerns that clients are raising in terms of the new regulations.   Tweetables: “It would basically be a collection of states getting together, going to a court and saying, ‘Block enforcement of these regulations.'”— @EdLawDude [0:10:42] “I think the general census, at least from my clients, would be not to have to add something else. On the flip side, I also think there are a lot of folks—especially like myself—that's just like, ‘Let's just get on with it.' If we are going to have to comply and this is going to happen, then let's just do so that we can move on with our lives.” — @ICSLawyer [0:11:10] “Assuming that the final regs are what we suspect the final regs would be, I would think the net impact of that is going to be students no longer wanting to come forward and participating in the process and maybe not even coming forward at all, which would be a tragedy.” — @EdLawDude [0:22:21]   “That's why I'm almost hoping the regs drop sooner rather than later. Give people as much time as humanly possible to start transitioning to whatever the final regs are going to say.” — @EdLawDude [0:34:47]   Links Mentioned in Today's Episode: Higher Ground Podcast John Graff on Twitter Scott Schneider Scott Schneider on Twitter Scott Schneider Number Courtney Bullard on Twitter Courtney Bullard Email Courtney Bullard Number The Chronicle of Higher Education Inside Higher Ed Vice News HBO Mohegan Sun
