This week, Jacki and Lyle are joined by the absolutely incredible Chloe Davies. As Lyle's introduction to Chloe in the episode suggests, she really has had an incredible career so far. She is a global inclusion and belonging consultant, a chef, and an entrepreneur, as well as being an incredibly committed campaigner for inclusion and equality across all spaces. Chloe is also a member of Badassery, a private global community that empowers unconventional thought leaders to push boundaries, magnify their influence and spread their life's passion, and the WACL (Women in Advertising & Communications Leadership). In September 2021, she took on a first of its kind role in becoming the Head of Social Impact for Lucky Generals. On top of all of this, she's an Ambassador for Mental Health First Aid (MHFA), a Director of the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre Project, and the founder of ‘It Takes A Village', a collective for Black women in advertising, media & marketing. A Campaign 2023 40over40 honouree, a 2023 BBDA finalist, and one of LinkedIn's Top Voices in 2022, it goes without saying that Jacki and Lyle were in great company this week! In a wide-ranging and important episode, Chloe discusses how she went from working at Tower Records in Piccadilly Circus, to following in her parents' footsteps in moving into the fashion industry, becoming the youngest ever trainee manager at Peter Jones, aged just 17. She talks to Jacki and Lyle about what inclusion and belonging means to her, including how her work with Lucky Generals on ad campaigns with Amazon and Virgin Atlantic made her feel like everything she had worked on up to that point finally made sense. Lyle asks her how important the 'belonging' aspect of her work is, with Chloe emphasising it's importance by outlining the work she has done in establishing uniform practices at 9 airlines and counting that allow employees to feel comfortable and seen in the workplace, before Jacki and Chloe agree that, without putting a steak in the ground, it's impossible to see just how far the needle has really moved in terms of diversity and inclusion. There really is so much to love about this absolutely incredible episode, which includes how Chloe was able to secure an Adele exclusive for one of her ad campaigns, cameos from her 7-year-old son Miles and Jacki's dog Ludo, and Lyle often watching on awestruck at everything that he's hearing! For more on Chloe's work with It Takes A Village after leaving Lucky Generals, head here: https://www.campaignlive.co.uk/article/lucky-generals-head-social-impact-chloe-davies-exits/1826325Artwork by Daff KjellströmMusic by Lyle FultonGet in touch via lyle@dimoso.com or info@dimoso.comMore information at www.dimoso.com and www.therestispr.comFollow us on Twitter - @TheRestIsPR Hosted on Acast. The complaints from skin cancer patients around a scene where two farmers appear to be comparing sun tan lines in Waitrose & Partners' Christmas ad are likely to make many clients "risk averse". That's according to Emma de la Fosse, chief creative officer at Digitas UK, who was speaking on The Campaign Podcast. She said: "This kind of thing terrifies clients and it's really difficult to sell brave work to clients and to get clients to run it. Something like this will just make clients risk averse."De la Fosse added that she is not making these comments lightly as she herself has suffered from cancer.Waitrose has since apologised for the scene and is now airing a new version of the work which no longer includes the scene that has caused offence.Martin Beverley, chief strategy officer at Adam & Eve/DDB (the agency behind the ad "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas"), added: "It was intended to be light-hearted and true to life but we've very much listened to the feedback that we had and we very quickly re-edited the ad to amend that scene and it's back on air without that scene."Also on the podcast, Campaign Big Awards co-chair of judges Shelley Smoler, chief creative officer at Droga5 London, explained that the industry is at the "pinnacle of purposeful work". She added: "The heavy presence of it suggests that maybe we are reaching the end of an era. Of course it's important that we do good in the world but in terms of a creative trend there's definitely room for something new and it feels like it's coming."In part two of a review of Christmas work, the three guests critiqued Amazon "Joy is made" by Lucky Generals, Lego Group "Build a playful holiday" by The Lego Agency, McDonald's "The list" by Leo Burnett and Argos "Avalanche" by The & Partnership. The podcast was hosted by Gurjit Degun, creativity and culture editor at Campaign. As this is how they came together as a foiunding duo, and how they make connections with clients, partners and their team. It's all about connection.  Craft is a communication consultancy, deliberately designed to be able to adapt to the ever-changing needs of clients and the wider industry. Craft believes a great communication plan can bring everything together.  Making sure the right brief is written, that media and creative are aligned around a real understanding of consumer behavior, having absolute certainty around how a brand behaves, and an intrinsic knowledge of media channels – what they do, how they work and the role they play in consumers lives – is the path to brilliant work and outstanding results. Since launch they have worked inside creative agencies (Grey, Uncommon, Lucky Generals) directly with clients (Nike Swim, ASOS, Which?) with media owners (Shortlist, Whatweseee, Vice) and with media agencies (Mindshare, Wavemaker, MC&C) Please share you own take-outs from the series on my Linked In page I'd love to hear what you think and also your suggestions for future founder guests. He stumbled into advertising after studying Law at Edinburgh University. Almost 30 years later, he's one of the world's most respected brand strategists and a founder of one of the UK's most successful creative agencies, Lucky Generals. Just how creative is Andy? But the truth is that fortune plays a part in every success story – and every failure. In Go Luck Yourself, one of the world's leading brand strategists explains how a hunting trip led to the invention of VELCRO®. How a little mermaid inspired a famous campaign for Amazon. How a stolen rabbit spurred on Walt Disney. And more importantly, how you can stack the odds in your brand's favor. Andy Nairn draws on everything from architecture to zoology, as well as almost 30 years working with some of the most successful companies on the planet, to provide a series of thought-provoking strategies that will help anyone responsible for building a brand. He'll show you how to uncover your organization's hidden treasures. How to spot opportunities in unexpected places. How to turn misfortune into good fortune. And how to practice being lucky, every day. Written in a very accessible and entertaining style, this is the book you need to improve your brand's fortunes, in these turbulent times. This episode’s guest is Andy Nairn, co-founder of Lucky Generals, who describe themselves as a creative company for people on a mission. Andy has been named the top brand strategist in the UK for the last three years and has also been named one of the top 5 creative people in world advertising. Andy has just written a book called Go Luck Yourself, which discusses the role luck can and should play in unlocking creative thinking and innovation. During our conversation, he tells a story about Quincy Jones. Quincy Jones has won 28 Grammys during his career and been nominated for 58 more. He believes that luck is an essential element of the creative process. In fact, so deep and omnipresent is his commitment to luck that inscribed on his studio wall is this - “Let God walk through the room.” You may or may not be religious - I’m not - but this sense of making space for some other force during the creative process resonates with me. It is reminiscent of Elizabeth Gilbert’s reminder in Eat, Pray, Love that the ancient Greeks and Romans believed that creativity was a divine attendant spirit that came to human beings from some distant and unknowable source. And it is familiar to me in that my best work comes when I am willing to be less in control. And then, it is not just inspiration that comes, but a force that takes over to such an extent that sometimes I don’t remember the act of creating. Maybe you’ve experienced something similar yourself? The art of fearlessly leading creative thinking and innovation has many components. But this idea of allowing luck into the equation doesn’t come up very often. And never by design. And yet, by its very definition, creating time for the unpredictable, light for the unseen, and opportunity for the accidental, must be part of any business that depends for its success on the ability to discover the new. So if you find yourself running from meeting to meeting, brief to brief, financial statement to financial statement, maybe stop for a moment and ask yourself whether you’ve left any room for luck. And if not, why not?

How do the leaders who are best at unlocking creativity and innovation in the people that work for them, do that? So, let’s start here. What is leadership?

"On a Saturday afternoon when every sports fan is going to watch their chosen sport, there are thousands of brands barking at them whether it's a print paper, online, in stadium on LEDs, in the matchday program; there's all these messages and presumably only the best are going to get taken home with fans and that's what our job is: to be the best messengers." Simon Dent is a former sports business lawyer & agent turned creative agency founder in the U.K. As managing partner of Dark Horses, Simon leads a team of world-class creatives working with brand such as Peloton, PUMA, City Football Group, Southampton F.C., Under Armour, Nissan and more. Whilst working as an agent, Simon realized that brands were missing opportunities to better engage fans via athletes he represented, so he founded an advertising agency. Simon discusses the emotional aspect of sport and how consumer brands can leverage those emotions to engage consumers in a more authentic way rather than simply sharing a logo on the scoreboard. We also chat about how an outside agency can bring a different high-level, strategic perspective to clubs and avoid being pigeonholed as production creatives like so many in-house creatives do with team marketing execs. Simon elaborates on why sporting brands should be vary weary of the competition for attention in future fans now that the internet offers attention grabbers like Fortnite, YouTube and Netflix. Lastly, we discuss creative culture and more specifically how Dark Horses uses it to recruit and keep creatives.
