To celebrate this milestone The Green Room 42 presents “Lights, Camera, Lerner and Loewe” on November 5th at 9:30pm. And the special guest of the evening is Steven Warner, who was the child actor in the title role alongside Broadway luminaries like Richard Kiley, Bob Fosse, Donna McKechnie, and Gene Wilder. Two other movie musicals also celebrating anniversaries this fall are Brigadoon, which has enchanted audiences for 70 years with its tale of love and a mystical village, as well as My Fair Lady, the timeless classic reaching its 60th anniversary. And each of these three musicals will be brought to life with some of the finest voices on and off Broadway. This one-night-only concert features Grammy Award nominee Mykal Kilgore (Motown, Hair), Tony Award nominee Jane Summerhays (Me and My Girl, A Chorus Line), Tony Award Honoree Ben Davis (Once Upon a Mattress, La Boheme), E. Clayton Cornelious (Ain't Too Proud), and Ellis Gage (White Rose, James & the Giant Peach). Warner will reprise songs he sang in The Little Prince. Performers from recent Broadway revivals of Lerner & Loewe musicals are among the singers as well, including Rachel Fairbanks (Camelot), Michael Halling (My Fair Lady), and Valerie Torres-Rosario (Camelot). The associate conductor for both Camelot and My Fair Lady, Will Curry, will provide music direction and violin along with Megan Smythe (The Great Gatsby) on piano. As a group of officials, led by Rob Speyer, president and CEO of developer Tishman Speyer, watched, a green tree was lifted atop a steel beam rising up the building. With a design by Bjarke Ingels Group, the steel-framed structure at Tenth and Eleventh avenues and 34th and 35th streets will provide some 2.8 million ft2 of office space. The six-story base will house a lobby that will have dual entrances on both Hudson Boulevard East and Tenth Avenue and include28-ft-tall ceilings. The base will include some 25,000 ft2 of first-class retail space. Completion is expected in 2022. The project total is listed at about US$3.7 billion. We’re here at Ballast Point Brewing in Little Italy, and today, we have Colby Chandler, Ballast Point’s vice president and specialty brewer. Colby is the second-longest employee of Ballast Point—he’s been with the company for 23 years. He was involved in the creation of their award-winning flagship beer, Sculpin, where he took two gold-medal-winning IPAs and melded the recipes into one. His version of their two beers is the Sculpin you know today. Today’s special guest is Chef Travis Swikard. Travis is opening one of the city's most anticipated restaurants, Callie, in the East Village, which we talk about in the Neighborhood Guide in the March issue. Callie is filling the space on Tenth Avenue where Bottega Americano was. Travis grew up in Santee, and he recently moved back to San Diego after working in New York City with acclaimed French chef Daniel Boulud for over a decade. Travis wanted to get back to local, fresh ingredients and a place to raise his two kids. Callie is his first solo restaurant. Mike Garson in conversation with David Eastaugh - recorded 28th January 2016 Garson was David Bowie’s longest and most frequent band member. They performed together for both Bowie's first and last concerts in the United States as well as 1,000 concerts around the globe in between. Garson provided the piano and keyboard backing on the later Ziggy Stardust tour of 1972-73 and his contribution to the song "Aladdin Sane" (1973) gave the song an avant-garde jazz feel with lengthy and sometimes atonal piano solos. I had told Bowie about the avant-garde thing. When I was recording the "Aladdin Sane" track for Bowie, it was just two chords, an A and a G chord, and the band was playing very simple English rock and roll. And Bowie said: 'play a solo on this.' I had just met him, so I played a blues solo, but then he said: 'No, that's not what I want.' And then I played a Latin solo. Again, Bowie said: 'No no, that's not what I want.' He then continued: 'You told me you play that avant-garde music. Play that stuff!' And I said: 'Are you sure? 'Cause you might not be working anymore!'. So I did the solo that everybody knows today, in one take. And to this day, I still receive emails about it. Every day. I always tell people that Bowie is the best producer I ever met, because he lets me do my thing. Garson played also for Bowie's guitarist bandmate Mick Ronson on his first and last solo tour, and his first Slaughter on Tenth Avenue (1974) and second solo album Play Don't Worry (1975). Garson came to replace Ronson as Bowie's musical lieutenant on several occasions, notably on "We Are the Dead" from the 1974 Diamond Dogs album, where Garson's metronome-like keyboard provides a dramatic setting for Bowie's vocals, and on the title track to Young Americans (1975) where his jaunty piano leads the band. Garson played with Bowie on and off over the years, resurfacing on The Buddha of Suburbia (1993) and 1 Outside (1995).

Introduction: Today we have with us Jared Epstein, someone who for today’s podcast at least I am nicknaming “The Great Transformer,” given how he first transformed himself from being a Meatpacking District club promoter back in 2001 to becoming - over the following 6-year period - a commercial real estate broker with Newmark and a part of Bobby Cayre’s Aurora Capital Associates in 2007. Jared’s transforming and visionary ways at that juncture had only just begun, as he truly felt that Meatpacking’s vibe, pulse, architecture and landscape were ripe for a myriad of high-end hospitality, retail, office and residential uses. It wasn’t easy at first for “The Great Transformer,” but all one needs to do is to make like Lou Reed and take a “Walk on the Wild Side” down to Ninth (and Tenth) Avenue for that matter to witness the starring role that Jared played in Meatpacking’s transformation. 24 years ago on June 5, 1995 — Just after 6am, a 'J' Train headed into Manhattan rear-ends an 'M' Train on the Williamsburg Bridge, killing the train operator and injuring 64 others With New York hosting the World Pride Festival in June and the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots approaching at the end of the month, Police Commissioner O'Neill made a public statement on June 6th formally apologizing for the actions of the NYPD in 1969. 10 years ago on June 8, 2009 — The first section of the High Line opens, from Gansevoort to 20th Street, 8 years ago on June 7, 2011 — The second section of the High Line opens from 20th to 30th Street, and this week, the final section has been opened, completing the park. On June 4th, a ribbon-cutting ceremony opened the final section, a small spur that extends to the east at 30th Street toward Tenth Avenue. This section of the High Line can safely be accessed now that construction on the eastern part of Hudson Yards has been completed, since the Spur of the High Line passes underneath one of the new buildings. After emerging from the building, the walkway opens up to a large plaza area above Tenth Avenue that will host a rotating selection of public art, with plans for more upcoming events to be held there. And, in case you were wondering: Although the other sections opened on June 8th, 7th, and 4th, The third section of the High Line, from 30th Street through the west side of Hudson Yards, wasn't able to open on a June date, and instead opened in September 2014. The number of new measles cases in the city continues to decrease, but cases nationwide in 2019 have surpassed the number last seen 25 years ago in 1994, with 971 reported cases as of May 30, 2019. New York still represents the majority of the yearly cases, but the outbreak in Brooklyn seems to have begun to slow. Within the city, there were only 17 new cases reported since May 29th, with Williamsburg, Boro Park, and Sunset Park being described as Neighborhoods with Ongoing Transmissions. New cases peaked in March and April, and have continued to decrease in May and June. Some of the city's newest residents are moving back to upstate NY after losing their jobs! — Riverside Park Goats Sent Back To Farm 3 years ago on June 9, 2016 — A British tourist floats for two hours in New York Harbor after a piece of Jersey City dock he was standing on breaks loose A man was arrested by the Joint Terrorism Task Force for planning to attack Times Square. NBC New York identifies the man as Ashiqul Alam, a 22-year-old resident of Jackson Heights, who had been under surveillance and stated a desire to attack Times Square, first suggesting grenades, but settling on firing a gun into the crowd. The FBI arrested Alam after he allegedly tried to buy guns with the serial numbers removed. 22 years ago on June 12, 1997 — Sri Chinmoy creates the world's longest certified footrace, the Self-Transcendence 3100 Mile Race, in Jamaica, Queens 8 years ago on June 6th, 2011 — Video of Zelda the Battery Park Turkey.
