Apolitical is revolutionizing how government officials learn and share knowledge globally, serving 250,000 verified public officials across 160 countries. Through its innovative learning platform, Apolitical partners with prestigious institutions like Oxford University and Stanford to deliver high-impact training on critical topics from AI to climate change, helping make government smarter and more efficient at scale. Topics Discussed: Building the global network for government, connecting 200 million public servants worldwide Creating democratized access to high-quality learning at scale across government departments Partnering with top universities to deliver mandatory training programs for entire governments Using AI to provide contextualized learning experiences incorporating local laws and policies Transforming how governments share best practices and successful innovations globally   GTM Lessons For B2B Founders: Find and amplify hidden innovators: Apolitical succeeded by identifying and highlighting innovative public servants who weren't getting attention elsewhere. This strategy earned them access to key decision-makers and helped build credibility. B2B founders should look for overlooked champions within their target market who can become powerful advocates. Build trust through compliance leadership: In risk-averse sectors like government, Apolitical learned to lead with their compliance and security credentials. They proactively demonstrate their data handling capabilities to overcome the natural skepticism toward smaller vendors. B2B founders targeting regulated industries should invest early in compliance and make it a core part of their pitch. Leverage strategic partnerships: Apolitical partners with established institutions like Oxford and Stanford to deliver high-quality content, and works with prime contractors to access procurement frameworks. This helps them punch above their weight class and compete with larger incumbents. B2B founders should identify strategic partners who can provide credibility and market access. Create unique market insights: Apolitical generates valuable research and insights from their network of public servants, publishing reports that help them gain visibility and authority. Their recent AI in government report showcases their unique market perspective. B2B founders should leverage their customer data and community to create differentiated thought leadership. Diversify your customer base: While focused on government, Apolitical also works with private sector organizations interested in government innovation, such as their partnership with Google.org. This diversification provides stability and funding while building the core government business. B2B founders in complex markets should consider multiple customer segments that can benefit from their solution. //   Sponsors: Front Lines — We help B2B tech companies launch, manage, and grow podcasts that drive demand, awareness, and thought leadership. www.FrontLines.io The Global Talent Co. — We help tech startups find, vet, hire, pay, and retain amazing marketing talent that costs 50-70% less than the US & Europe.  www.GlobalTalent.co

Pier is revolutionizing credit infrastructure by enabling companies to launch compliant credit products through their API-first solution. Having raised $2.5M from notable investors including Y Combinator, Airbnb, OpenAI, Experian, and Morgan Stanley, Pier is transforming how businesses offer innovative credit solutions to their users. In this episode of Category Visionaries, Jessica Zhang shares her journey from identifying a critical market need at her previous company to launching Pier in 2023 and securing their first major customer within just four weeks. Topics Discussed: Building an API-first solution for compliant credit products The evolution from identifying market pain points to product development First principles approach to reimagining credit infrastructure Strategy for landing enterprise customers with 80k+ ARR deals The role of compliance in credit infrastructure Vision for democratizing access to credit through trusted brands GTM Lessons For B2B Founders: Leverage previous company experience: Zhang and her co-founder's insights from their time at Stilt gave them unique competitive advantages in understanding customer pain points. Sometimes the best startup ideas come from seeing unfinished business or unsolved problems at previous companies rather than a single "aha" moment. Focus on high-quality early customers: Pier specifically targets customers who are leaders in their respective categories, focusing on companies with 4.5+ star ratings and strong growth trajectories. This creates a "golden standard" playbook that can be replicated across similar verticals, making future sales much easier. Embrace organic growth channels: Despite having no dedicated sales or marketing team, Pier achieved significant growth through word-of-mouth referrals from satisfied customers and investors. They prioritized genuine in-person conversations at industry conferences over cold outreach. Move fast despite obstacles: The founders didn't let perfect timing dictate their launch. Despite missing YC batch deadlines and personal commitments, they moved forward because they had validated customer demand. Their ability to secure their first customer within four weeks validated this approach. Build for specific pain points: Instead of creating a general solution, Pier focused heavily on the compliance aspect of lending infrastructure after identifying it as the most painful and challenging part for potential customers through extensive market research and conversations.     //   Sponsors: Front Lines — We help B2B tech companies launch, manage, and grow podcasts that drive demand, awareness, and thought leadership. www.FrontLines.io The Global Talent Co. — We help tech startups find, vet, hire, pay, and retain amazing marketing talent that costs 50-70% less than the US & Europe.  www.GlobalTalent.co

Are you interested in building confidence?  Do you have a daughter in sports, or have you had an injury? This is going to be a perfect episode for you. We dive into building confidence, succeeding in sports, and finding your own winning mindset, especially after a setback. In this episode, I talk with Shay Haddow, an expert coach, author, podcast host, and speaker on confidence and mindset for female athletes. She has worked with hundreds of youth female athletes and college teams from across the country; supporting girl athletes to build unshakable confidence so they can live and play to their fullest potential. She talks about her own struggles with confidence and injury during her own athletic career. She discusses why it's important to break from our limitations to reach our best potential. Shay also shares some tips to help you bounce back from failure to success and build that powerful mindset. Questions I asked: How did you become this confident person? Can you tell us about your experience with injury? How can we build confidence after an injury? Why is being not good enough a myth? How can people visualize their dreams? How does visualization work for an injury? How do we use positive affirmations, and how do we create them? How do we get rid of comparison? What do we do to stop focusing on perfectionism? How can I help our children avoiding feeling like they aren't enough? What are some of the tools in your toolkit for building confidence? Can you tell us what your book & course is about?   Topics Discussed: Building confidence. Affirmations Female athletes. Avoiding perfectionism. Imposter syndrome. Dealing with injury. Winning mindset.   Quotes from the show: “When it comes to confidence, it all starts with your thoughts.” @shayhaddow @SisterhoodSweat “You need to give yourself grace, instead of trying to be who you were.” @shayhaddow @SisterhoodSweat “We are either thinking about our past, or our future instead of who we are now.” @shayhaddow @SisterhoodSweat “The stories you've told yourself, they are not true.” @shayhaddow @SisterhoodSweat “Where you put your mind is where your energy flows, so let's choose empowering thoughts.” @shayhaddow @SisterhoodSweat How you can stay in touch with Shay: Website Twitter Facebook Instagram Podcast Grab her Book   How you can stay in touch with Linda: Website Facebook Twitter Instagram Pinterest YouTube SoundCloud   "Proud Sponsors of the Sisterhood of S.W.E.A.T"   Essential Formulas   My daily energy stems from mushrooms... mushroom coffee that is! This week’s guest is Samantha Kelly (aka Tweeting Goddess), a female entrepreneur who has impressively turned her life around for herself and her family. Samantha openly shares her personal journey of being a single mother of 2 girls and reliant on social welfare for a very long time. She began to turn her life around when she chose to cut alcohol out of her life 13 years ago and took the brave step to try and become financially independent through entrepreneurial endeavours. This led to her becoming a contestant on RTE’s Dragon Den, and to many other exciting opportunities, including giving a TED talk in 2015. Samantha came to realise her great strength was in building social networks and business communities, connecting small business owners and offering them a variety of business supports through her networks. Samantha now runs the Women Inspire Network (WIN) and has over 420 active members. I think these support networks are an invaluable way for women to empower other women, through even simple things like sharing advice, making an introduction, or just lending a supportive ear. I enjoyed hearing Samantha’s story – she is down to Earth and honest about the highs and the lows of both her business and personal life. I always find it so shockingly refreshing when people share their vulnerabilities – so I really thank Samantha for this. TOPICS DISCUSSED:Building supportive communities for small & medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)Turning 40 and a succession of life-changing events, motivated Samantha to just go for it and set up her own business, which led her to participate in the tv show, Dragon's DenFemale entrepreneurship and business support networks - encourages all SMEs to seek out mentorship through business networksBuilding relationships and networking through social mediaBe kind and give back in business, people will rememberThe importance of being human and real in businessMoving out of social welfare and into business helped Samantha to feel more of a "useful member of society" now that she "can contribute and add value" Never underestimate the power of a useful introduction in business Recognises the importance of having a great team to build her businessAmbassador for Sober St Patrick's Day as Samantha shares she is 13 years sober RESOURCES MENTIONED:Women's Inspire Network (WIN): https://www.womensinspirenetwork.com/The Tweeting Goddess Little Book of Twitter Magic by Samantha Kelly: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Tweeting-Goddess-Little-Twitter-Magic/dp/1912328399Samantha Kelly's new podcast Twitter Tales: https://open.spotify.com/episode/4GkFMg01NETGrBpDqKhXOR?si=GRVa2ikRRWqp0Nsw0W-HmQThe Double X Economy book by Prof. Linda Scott: https://www.doublexeconomy.com/ Sober St Patrick's Day: https://www.soberstpatricksday.org/ ___________________________________________________________Subscribe to YouTube channel: https://bit.ly/3jLTdaqRate & review Journeying on iTunes: https://podcasts.apple.com/ie/podcast/journeying/id1529912826Like Facebook Page: https://bit.ly/33kp4bUVisit the Journeying website: https://journeying.me/
