Well, well, well, welcome to The Portugal Corner, folks! Episode 143, where we dive deep into the world of Portuguese soccer, from the highs to the lows, and even the funny bits! We introduce Jacket Man! Alright, let's roll through it like a melody. Bernardo Silva, he strikes early against Real Madrid, huh? Drama unfolds as they end up in a thrilling 3-3 draw. Then we've got Arsenal and Bayern locking horns, ending up in a 2-2 tie. Now, Vitinha, he lends a helping foot to PSG against Barcelona, but alas, Barcelona pulls off a comeback win. Atletico takes down Dortmund, while Liverpool, they get a tough lesson from Atalanta. Oh, and the Greek-Turkish showdown, Olympiacos takes the crown against Fenerbahce. And hey, Chiquinho from Benfica days, he gets in on the action too. Switching gears, let's talk about Sporting, the Lions Den! Trincao with a double whammy, huh? They put Gil Vicente in their place with a 4-0 victory. Sporting's on fire, scoring left and right. Is this the golden era reminiscent of Vitor Pereira's Porto? Porto, on the other hand, not so smooth sailing. They falter against Famalicao, ending in a 2-2 stalemate. Tough luck there, needing some revamping, they say. And the birds pay tribute to Sven Goran Eriksson, before clinching a win against Marseille. Rafa and DiMaria shine bright. Plus, they breeze through Moreieriense with a 3-0 win. Over to Braga, Alvaro Djalo steals the show, helping defeat Estoril. But Guimaraes, they stumble with just a point against Farense. And Bournemouth holds them to a 2-2 draw. Liverpool, oh Liverpool, they slip against Palace, reminiscent of Gerrard's moment. Wolves and Nuno's boys, they lock horns, ending in a 2-2 draw. Arsenal and Aston Villa, they taste defeat against Birmingham boys, leaving Man City soaring high. Joao Felix, oh what a bicycle kick against Cadiz! But the big question looms: will he start against PSG? A clash of titans, perhaps? And over in Germany, Xabi Alonso's Leverkusen, they clinch the Bundesliga title for the first time ever! Talk about historic moments. Well, folks, that's a wrap for today's show. Remember to tune in, subscribe, and spread the word like wildfire. Until next time, peace and love from The Portugal Corner! Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to another episode of The Portugal Corner, where we dive deep into the world of Portuguese soccer. Now, let me tell you, we've got a jam-packed show for y'all today. So, let's break down these talking points and make sense of what's happening in the world of Portuguese football. First up, we pay our respects to the legendary Eusebio. Rest in peace, my man. You're forever in our hearts. Now, onto the transfer scene, where the Figo Store is open for business. Benfica making moves by signing Benjamin Rollheiser, and the rumor mill is buzzing about Rafa's potential move to United. But hold on, Sancho is heading back to Dortmund. It's a wild ride! Former Chelsea and Liverpool RB Glen Johnson gives his two cents on Gyokeres, saying he's not ready for the Prem. And we've got some interesting loan deals in the works – Fabio Carvalho on Wolves' radar and Goncalo Borges possibly heading to Lille. Tiago Djalo might be donning the black and white of Juve, and there's talk about PSG offering Renato to Besiktas. Oh, and watch out, Insigne might be plotting a move to Fiorentina – or is it just fake news? Gelson Martins has found a new home at Olympiacos. Guedes, on the other hand, might be heading to Villarreal. And brace yourselves, Chelsea is eyeing Jordan Henderson after a not-so-sunny stint in Saudi. Now, onto the pitch. Sporting unleashed on Estoril, putting five past them. Trincao with a banger from the edge of the box, while Porto was held to a 1-1 draw by Boavista. Some fishy officiating, a red card, and a need for Sergio to shake things up. The Arouca vs. Benfica match saw Rafa on fire, sealing the deal with a goal and an assist. In the Minho Darby, Braga and Guimaraes locked horns, ending in a 1-1 draw with some spectacular moments. And in other matches, Farense bounced back with a last-minute win, Vizela and Estrella de Amadora tied, and Famalicao and Chaves put on a show with a 2-2 draw. Switching gears to the FA Cup, Spurs secured a 1-0 win against Burnley, Wolves drew 1-1 with Brentford despite being a man down, and Liverpool took down Arsenal 2-0 with Luis Diaz stealing the spotlight. The Barca Breakdown discussed that reports are, Dembele has signed a contract with FC Barcelona at a reduced salary until 2024. After the chaos of last season, it seems Dembele's agent has only forced a lower salary by not taking the initial contracts. While this may be bad news for Dembele, Barca get a great deal and the player gets to stay where he pleases. Now that Barca have signed Dembele, what does that mean in the quest to acquire Raphinha and Lewandowski? Both players would cost a pretty penny for them to come and Barca would be signing several forwards when they definitely need to bolster the back line. The economic levers that will generate Barca money should be used wisely. Money should be managed well when looking to purchase either player. Reports are Raphinha will come to Barca but Bayern Munich has yet to say they are willing to let Lewandowski leave. Transfer rumors are a tricky business, but one name has been thrown around a lot this summer. Frenkie De Jong has made news several times in connection with a transfer to Manchester United. However, the Dutchman has clearly stated he wants to stay at Barcelona. Additionally, he has several years on his contract in which he deferred payments to the later half of his contract, meaning he is owed larger amounts of money. It is rumored that Frenkie's contract was leaked by Barca to justify his release. Whatever the case, Frenkie wishes to stay and play Champions League Football which would not be found at Man United. Chelsea has joined the running for the Dutchman. Lastly, Barca sent Trincao for 10 Million Euros taking a loss from his original acquisition. Whatever the case may be, Barca finally cut ties with old signings that haven't panned out. This is one of the last few steps Barca are taking to get rid of the Bartomeu era.

Welcome to The Arsenal Therapy Podcast, a dedicated show about the club we love, Arsenal Football Club. Arsenal finally win a game in 2022 with a nervy victory against Wolves with plenty of action including yet another sending off. Wolves started the game brightly with plenty of possession and attacking football going down the flanks with Trincao and Podence. Arsenal slowly got back into the game with a goal from Gabriel but relapsed into a defensive shape and let Wolves press deep into their half. The second half started well but Martinelli's unique two yellow cards set up a really nervous end to the game where Arsenal managed hang on to take 3 big points. Sam, Rik and Toni are back to discuss Barcelona's players at this summer's Euro 2020 and Copa America tournaments. New signing Memphis Depay is looking good, Ousmane Dembele is injured and Lionel Messi has matched Javier Mascherano. We also watched Barça's general assembly so you didn't have to and there's some rumours to discuss: Adama Traore, Robin Gosens and Arthue Melo!? Running order:-- Memphis and De Jong flying -- Dembele's injury, Dembele's future-- Alba Spain's best player-- Braithwaite's Denmark through-- Messi 147 -- General assembly wrap -- Adama for Trincao? -- Gosens in? -- Arthur for Pjanic?
The BarcaBreakdown discuss the huge news that the FC Barcelona website posted Depay's Barca jersey, a huge clue that he will join the team soon. We also discuss Laporta's decision to move on and sell Trincao, which Koeman has supported if replacements are available. Pique has also been the first of the old guard of players to accept a lower wage for next season, which we hope will be a sign for players like Sergi Roberto, Alba, and Busquets to follow a similar path. Though there are rumors of Depay to Juventus, most reports say he will come to FC Barcelona shortly. We are excited to see Depay with Leo Messi soon!!!! He brings a good goal scoring ability which we need as the last few games of 2021 we had a poor offense. However, our defense was an even bigger issue, and Pique choosing to accept a lower contract may help us afford Laporte or De Ligt. Episode 6! Let's dive right into it! On the eve of Gareth Southgate's lose-lose decision, tasked with selecting a small cohort of English players from a vast pool of talented options, Will leads a discussion on the challenges of being in his boots. Our hosts start by laying out the candidates for the coveted and controversial right back role, introducing somewhat speculative "feelings" that accompany each one, with a few stats to more firmly back them up. They've prepared a bit of a label for each player for those that are unfamiliar with them. The conversation steers into the impact that the media and fans can have on selection. The challenge here, is not only that we must pick a starter, but that we must select a strategic trio with logical grounds. Yet, much of the Twitter and journalistic space will be ravenously waiting for "their player" to be called up! In the English Premier League, the entertainment comes, in large part, due to the widespread quality of so many sides--but this can prove compromising when we've got 10 teams all expecting their talismen to earn a seat on the plane (instead of the tighter handful of 2-4 teams in other leagues across the continent that share those kinds of expectations; think the far more centralized Spain, Germany, etc.). Making matters worse, the melting pot of Premier League tactics is, once again, a huge driver for viewership, but proceeds to painfully hamper the continuity of style and methodology in England. To add more fuel to the fire, there's the odd dynamic of continuous squad churn that derives itself from the selection process itself. Many fans will write and use the narrative that suits them at any given time, demanding that their over-performing player from this season get the call-up, but that their creaky, experienced veteran not be left behind either. A concoction of high expectations, far too many options, and a modern fullback role that's hardly well-defined means that Southgate's got quite the choice to make. The second half commences with Martin's introduction of the more fundamental options here: picking duplicates of varying degrees of quality vs. bringing different roles to fit the mold. As a case study, he remarks upon Barcelona's potentially better usage of Dembele and Trincao as an example of the latter, juxtaposed with Argentina's futile #10 overloading to illustrate the former. This idea then segues into the notion of identity for national teams, as the lads discuss how the idea changes and intensifies as we introduce the pride that comes with geographic borders. The two agree that this is something utterly critical to develop and often fall back on.The chat now dives into the contrasting benefits and drawbacks of both youth and experience. They touch upon the value of locker room figures like Adil Rami, but concede that prodigies certainly bring a vitality and eagerness to the forefront. The public always loves a good Theo Walcott. Finally, the verdicts. Martin proposes an elaborate plan to avoid injuries in the tournament itself and pin specific players against specific teams as a result of their specific likely matchups. Will counters that this is a terrible idea, and that the group ought to stick to one game model, instead. They fire back and forth for a while until ultimately agreeing on the only objective truth there is in this debate: it's hard to envy Southgate as he makes this lose-lose decision!Join us to hear Will's atrocious intro, a car-scam update, a Tariq Lamptey cameo, a Liverpool fan trying to keep his fanbase grounded, a compelling Swedish anecdote, and two vastly distinct approaches to solving this problem.Find us on Twitter @touchlinetheoryFind Martin on Twitter @MG_theory, and Will @WA_theorySubscribe and send us your feedback!

The Boys talk about Benfica's recent streak of boring games, the Taca "Carmo-geddon" between Porto and Braga. Sergio Conceição's emotional moment completely crushed by VAR and Sporting continues to show that they are Championship material. We reminisce about the days when we could play soccer and how it did not go well. Then slip into the premier league chat by comparing in-form Perdo Neto and Portugal Great Luis Nani, move on to Wolves two games against the Saints, Manchester City penalty woes, and their victory over Mourinho's Tottenham. The great debate of will they/won't they fire Jose rages on, we try to figure out what Bruno Fernandes' preferred foot is after that tremendous volley and praise Helder Costa's ability to get on the score sheet in a hopeless game against Arsenal. We review a Portugal great and his influence on the Futre of Portuguese football. We move on to Serie A Coaching, and Cristiano Ronaldo's slow week at the office. In other European leagues, Trincao continues to surprise us and to no surprise, Andre Silva is still scoring. A new Joao Wonder is Crowned! Finally, lots of chit-chat about the upcoming week of football, Champions League, Europa League (a fierce Benfica Arsenal debate), premier league, and Seria A Darbies. As well as the upcoming Liga Nos Games and how long it takes to drive across Portugal. We give a shout-out to our one fan in holland and then finally WRAP IT UP!
The Boys breakdown the importance of Cervi at Benfica, review Porto and Braga's 2-2 thriller, and compare Pedro Goncalves to a Portugal great. They discuss Trincao's first goal at Barcelona and where he fits in at that team. Then they go through the excitement of the Premier League weekend: Liverpool's nightmare match against Manchester City, Bruno Fernandes Cantona-esque heroics, and Wolverhampton's disappointing run of form. They Marvel at Cristiano Ronaldo's big Game heroics in Italy and touch on other in form players across Europe. Finally, they crown the Pod's first Joao Wonder! Follow the pod!
