Filippa Noghani, Head of Marketing BFS and Strategic Accounts at Virtusa, shares her insights on working at both startups and large companies. She also shares her experience sitting on the Board and being Marketing Chair of NYC Fintech for Women, an organization that helps level the playing field for female business leaders in Fintech. She threshes out comparisons from her marketing experience. In addition, she lends her perspective as a female business leader in the workplace.Noghani takes a deep dive into the differences between startup marketing and traditional marketing. In startups, the marketing team needs to be involved with every department: Product, R&D, Sales, Customer Experience. All are heavily involved in helping make the company successful. More traditional marketing is about creating the copy and continuing with brand promotion. It's important to make sure that marketing is seen as a partner in generating revenue, rather than being the role of the sales team alone. Running market research and understanding your customer base are essentials for successfully selling your product and growing your company. Noghani talks about striking a balance at the workplace. As a woman, she has experience of having to continually work on messaging while standing her ground on ideas. She advises a firm but diplomatic path. And working for someone who values your insight—that's more precious than pay and should be cherished.Senior business leaders must be mindful of taking care of their employees. Demonstrating to employees that you are emotionally invested in them goes a long way. They spend a lot of their time at work, so investment beyond the financial level is crucial.Business leaders wanting to expand their marketing reach will find this educational. There's also some great insight on diversity and workplace culture that can be picked up on this episode.LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/fnoghani/ This episode is brought to you by Content Allies.Content Allies helps B2B tech companies launch revenue-generating podcasts. "Employees need to wear the brand, live the brand, if they don't feel valued, they will not be your brand champs"If you care about employer branding, advocacy and social hiring, Kunjal Kamdar is someone you should know. Kunjal combines a career in talent acquisition and branding including working with giants like Capgemini, WNS Global Services and Virtusa with a relentlessly curious brain for a perspective that captures both the big picture and the nitty-gritty details of what it takes to build an employer brand. He currently brings that expertise to TietoEVRY - a leading digital services and software company as the Senior HR Specialist - Global Employer Branding Lead, and in this conversation, we picked his brain on how he thinks about employee branding as a whole. We discuss with Kunjal:The importance of employee advocacy to your employer brand strategyEngagement despite M&A - the impact on employer brandHow to turn your employees into brand advocatesWays to attract young talent to your companyWhat's more to employer branding beyond careers page, and social mediaRemote, hybrid or back to the office?Ways to create a more human workplace Employer branding when an acquisition takes place:People need to understand that it is not only the brand that changes when it is acquired. There are a lot of changes within it, from values, culture, to policies. There comes a point when a company acquires another where they have to sit and discuss how an organization maintains both sides of culture. The modifications need to be made accordingly. It is a challenge specifically for HR professionals.Employer branding vs employee advocacy:Kunjal explains how according to studies, an employee advocate is trusted 2x more than a company CEO. The more employees talk about the company, the more impact. The employees are the face of the brand, and both go hand in hand. Employer branding is the employer's reputation, and employee advocacy is the promotion of that reputation.Ways to identify employee ambassadors:Most companies are finding the ingredient to employee ambassadors. However, they should be the ones who are happy with their companies and are rated high. They should be able to represent them in external forums, webinars, conferences, etc. The organizations need to focus on how they can work on developing these people and give them a platform.Social media to attract talent:Social media has played a vital role in creating awareness in attracting talent. First, it is more organizational based on where they are and what they do for the same. Kunjal explains the significance of different platforms individually. Social media for employee branding has been a challenge. Companies need to understand that they do not have to stay active everywhere. They have to analyze the platforms which are best for them and simply have a presence in others.Employer branding through social media:Employer branding in social media is inside out. It starts with organizations creating enough awareness and campaigns for their employees. While for employees, it starts with creating awareness about their referrals, seeing the staffing, and finding out policies.Within employer branding, every touchpoint of employees-from joining to leaving the organization- is an interesting space. Companies should focus on enriching this experience.Follow Kunjal on LinkedInProduced by: Priya BhattPodcast host: Junius DsilvaGet the best of this episode in our blog.

Sumit also elaborates on how enterprises are now focused on building a culture around innovation and agility with the help of crowdsourcing platforms.

Today's episode is the third in our series on women's participation in the workforce in India. Every year, class XII grades show girls outperforming boys in science subjects. A McKinsey study, shows that in India women make up 43% of those graduating but only 25% of those in entry level jobs. That is a huge drop. There are many explanations including marriage, childbirth, care for elders, being the trailing spouse, safety, and all of this compounds as you go higher in the career ladder. The burden of childcare and elder care almost entirely falls on women. The effect shows on the labor participation rate. At an effective 11% participation in manufacturing and services, we trail many mature and emerging countries. For some time now, I've brought you individual stories of guests with outsized abilities and wisdom. So, in a break from tradition, today, I bring you a panel discussion with 3 leaders, who have the unique distinction of being able to shape the participation of women at work in India and with a different perspective and background. Joining me are Hema Hattangady, former CEO of Conzerv, an Indian family-owned enterprise acquired by Schneider Electric, who sits on the board of multiple companies and an alumnus of IIM Calcutta, Dr. Murali Padmanabhan, Senior VP for Global Talent & OD at Virtusa, leadership coach and a PhD in Applied Mathematics from the University of Hyderabad and Shonalie Gupta, Senior Director Organization Development at Indegene, diversity and inclusion coach and an alumnus of XLRI, Jamshedpur. In this episode, we discuss awareness of India's dismal female participation, societal stereotypes, and challenges. But that is not all. We go further and give you practical, tested, tips and ideas on how to have the conversation around increasing female labor participation, beginning with small changes at an individual level to large scale organization impact. To cap it off, each of the panelists include their wish list of how they see corporate India 20 years from now. Go on, grab a cuppa joe, a note pad and tune in. Topic: Design Organization for Scale: Holistic Perspectives for market fit & success TN Hari heads the HR at Big basket and is an advisor and sounding board to numerous young entrepreneurs and startups. He is also a Strategic Advisor at ‘Fundamentum’, which is a homegrown growth phase VC fund set up by Nandan Nilekani and Sanjeev Aggarwal. He has studied at IIT & IIM and worked at an executive level with multiple start-ups/scale-ups and has been through four successful exits in different industries that are (Daksh, Virtusa, Amba Research &TaxiForSure). His passion is in scaling organizations through clear thinking and relentless execution. He writes regularly on LinkedIn &  LinkedIn has identified him as one of the Top Voices in India for three consecutive years in a row (2016, 2017, and 2018). He has Co-authored three books. The last two books were “Cut the Crap and Jargon – Lessons from the Startup Trenches”; and also the other book “Cutting the Gordian Knot – India’s Quest for Prosperity” was published by Bloomsbury.   Few questions I ask Hari TN on Building Organizations for Scale, business strategy, clear thinking, and execution concept is as follows: Time Stamps: 2:25 to 41:45 His background and how he got to where he is today Why do we need to design an organization for scale while every CEO aspire for growth and expansion? So what must change to keep the organization from breaking as you have witnessed the explosive growth of the kind especially in your tenure in Taxi for sure? What’s your insight… What would be your focus or a strategy when you want to venture to scale up? How do we enable the organization and people to be prepared to manage that scale/growth—and to learn new ways of operating and behaving—as that stands a much better chance of making it in the long term success? Is there a churn at the top level? Especially the senior leadership level in the process? As these business leaders must be able to think strategically? How do you instill thinking in the leaders in the journey of scaling for entrepreneurs or organization? Have you come across the very skills in execution often make these c-suite leaders or top management ill-equipped, since their strategy thinking muscles have withered from disuse? When you say Execution – What does it involve, what is the role people play in the management ladder and in the organization as a whole? I’m sure with such c-suite leaders involvement – I’m sure there would have been a time you had to be firm in saying no? what was it like? Sometimes it is brutal to talk about the facts and figures...which is not a nice thing to hear...however can you tell me what kind of steps you took to ensure everybody is aligned from the very beginning as you have been a part of the Management Team at multiple start-ups/scale-ups and helped shape four successful exits in different industries? Is there a biggest failure/mistake you have made along the way and what have you learned from it? In one of your article, you learned how to handle three questions that haunt everyone: ‘So what?’, ‘Why?’ and ‘What if?’ In the process, You learned problem-solving. You learned to handle aggressive environments. You developed internal customer orientation. Can you explain to my listeners with one of the example and how this method helps? What are the key things one should do to be more part of the business strategy in this phase? What is it like to work at Big Basket? What is your opinion on the trends in the industry with regards to talent development? Reskilling /continuous learning is something important to grow …what is your views on the same? "Powerful question" to my guest to unveil for my listeners.  to engage, enlighten and empower (& that’s the mission of my podcast too) Time stamp at 42:00 to 50:35 According to you, what is the “STAR” moment? What “inspires you” to do everything that you do? If you owned the company, what’s one thing you would do differently in learning? What are the three most important things you would like to accomplish right now? What are your strengths? What’s the best book you’ve read this year? or anytime you recommend for my listeners. What are the characteristics of the best boss role models or mentors/coach you ever had? What made that person great? Are there any tools that you use on a daily basis to be a better you? Are there any resources (blogs/website) you would recommend to our listeners? Your advice to people who are new and want to accelerate their career in HR?
