You’ll remember last week on the podcast I spoke about all things SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth) related. You may have been thinking, “I wonder if I have SIBO as well as PCOS?”.Like PCOS, SIBO is one of those conditions that’s hard to get most doctors to take seriously. Let’s talk about ways to stop food guilt! I recently talked to a client who was ready to dive even deeper into releasing her own food guilt, and it got me thinking about ways we could all do this. Before we start, I just want to say... Continuing with your intuitive eating practice, in general, is going to be the most helpful way to stop food guilt. Going back to the basics is a big key! So if your overall practice has been lagging, or if you’ve gotten a little off track with intuitive eating, I’d encourage you to do a refresh there! In this episode, I do have some valuable tips for before, during, and after experiencing potential food guilt. I’m super excited to share them — just want to be sure you remember that ongoing practice is the key! Footnote: I have a new opportunity for new clients! I’d love to see you there! 5 Tips to Stop the Food Guilt Tip #1 — Before You Eat: Before you eat, consider what food will actually satisfy your wants and needs in that moment. When you make a conscious choice to eat a food you have a desire to eat, it’s easier to own that decision! You’re also more likely to choose a food that can satisfy both wants and needs. That includes how it tastes, as well as how it makes your body feels. You might also be able to recognize more clearly when you’re choosing “want” foods, and be more likely to balance them with “need” foods as well. I find that conscious choices decrease my guilt levels a lot! For instance, I’ve been having some guilt about my son’s screen time lately. I notice that if I consciously decide I’m going to let him watch during a certain time span, I can let him do so without feeling guilty. But if I let him start watching and I just let time pass while I’m doing other things, working on my business, or scrolling my phone, I tend to feel more guilty. I feel more empowered and less guilty when I know I’ve made a choice, versus feeling that it “just happened”. Tip #2 — Before & While You Eat Try a mantra either before you eat, or while you eat! Something like: + Food is food. + There is no good food, and no bad food. + I get to decide what I want to eat. We have so many food stories that we’ve internalized — it can be hard to NOT feel guilty when we go against them! Using a mantra that reminds you about your new food beliefs and stories can help you have more confidence and less guilt. Tip #3 — While You’re Eating Take the time to enjoy what you’ve decided to eat. Often we feel guilty when we just consume food with no real enjoyment or appreciation. When we consciously decide what we want to eat, and then allow ourself to really savor and enjoy that food, it’s easier to feel good while we eat. Taking that time to enjoy is a reminder that food can be really fun. And if guilty feelings pop up, knowing that you truly enjoyed it can give you the affirmation that eating it was a good choice that are empowered to make. Nothing to feel guilty about at all! Tip #4 — After You Eat If you feel guilt creeping in after you’ve eaten, ask yourself why. Is it because you don’t physically feel good after eating that food? Do you think you aren’t “supposed” to eat it? Are you afraid you’ll gain weight? All of those (and more) can be reasons that our minds trigger us to feel guilty about what we’ve eaten. Many women especially feel guilty about food because of the connection to gaining weight. If that’s you, I’d love to have you check out these two episodes: Body Acceptance and the Desire to Lose Weight and Three Tangible Ways to Love Your Body. Praciting body love can help you release the stress about losing weight, which is another big piece of the puzzle when it comes to releasing guilt! Tip #5: Before Next Time You can’t fail at intuitive eating. No matter how you feel before, during, or after eating, you can use that as feedback to help you next time you’re eating. And as for food guilt? When you feel it coming on, use it as a trigger to start the process of figuring out information can actually help you. Questions like: + What did you eat? + Why did you eat it? + How did it make your body feel? + What would you do differently next time? Can help you think through the kind of conscious choices you want to make when you’re eating. And remembering to really consider how your body feels is a chance to stay present and practice body-love, which is a super important component of intuitive eating! Asking these questions can also help you feel productive and channel your energy into something positive that feels good! Instead of wallowing in guilt or letting stress ruin your day, take positive action and reframe it as something you can use to know yourself even better! After the buzz and energy of the winter holidays are over, people can sometimes fall into a slump and get stuck in the darkness of the season. Here are 25+ tips from myself as well as readers/listeners of A Farmish Kind of Life to hopefully help you get through winter and make it through to spring with a smile on your face. All episodes are linked under the podcast tab that you can find way at the top of this post in my menu bar.  You can also listen and subscribe to my Farmish Kind of Life podcast at all popular podcast players.  My plan to get through the winter: Be honest about what affects me negatively and positively, and then give the appropriate attention to those things: Sometimes it makes me feel powerful to listen to podcasts, people, etc. who are all about fighting the man, changing the world, taking action, etc. Other times, it all just feels like angry noise. And I know it’s not just me because I have heard from followers and listeners and readers who have said, “I just can’t listen to it all right now, does that make me a bad irresponsible person?” Whatever that thing is that you're supposed to be fixated on right now...will you remember it a month after it passes? What was the last thing you were supposed to be worried or fixated on? Is anyone talking about it now? Save your worry and concern for what deserves it. (Hint: things you can actually affect or do something about.)  Eat good food: But also not beat myself up when I decide to bake a pie or have an old fashioned or two while I snuggle with my husband. Your body requires good fuel to do the work it needs to do, but there's nothing wrong with treats—if you understand the meaning of the word treat—so stop with the dang guilt. Learn something/have a project: I feel like part of what’s at the heart of the difficulty of winter, especially for homesteaders, is that you might feel as though you’re not accomplishing as much. We are so busy spring summer and fall that when we’re not meeting ourselves coming and going from the barn to the garden to the kitchen in the winter, we can almost feel like there is something wrong. And then we do this weird "guilt" thing and this weird "questioning my worth" thing. To counteract that, I'm making a list of the projects that need to be done in the house and the skills I need to brush up on. And I will devote this winter downtime to those things with the mindset that I'm preparing for spring's arrival (instead of waiting for winter to end). Figure out what I want: Yesterday I was flitting about doing all the things and I had a really productive day. However there was this feeling nagging at me that I didn't get done what I wanted to do. Like there was still something else I was supposed to be doing. I've realized that it's very important for you to know what you want, what your goal is, what you're heading for, what the to-do list entails. If you don't know what you want, you won't know when you accomplish it. Peter Kent Letter to Carole I am having a real tough time with my memory for the past two days; today was a terrible day for me.   I was very unproductive, and very forgetful.  While I got the work done it could have been finished by now, and, I kept forgetting things all day.   I felt 'low' all day.  I am embittered by this Jew in Sarasota that refuses to pay me thus far, and, some times I am not real proud of myself for being a handyman.  Today I could not get 'off' that position.  I think I had about two good hours, after, 4:00 the rest of the day was spent thinking how tired I was and that I will not be able to do this kind of stuff too much longer.  I need to feel good about who I am again.   While YOU make me extremely happy, YOU are all I want in a mate and that is more than 50% of my requirements to be complete; there is still the fact that I need to be content with myself, to be proud of where I am in life.   Surely I could put this in better words, at the moment I cannot.  Love, PK   The apartment is going to look great.  I am changing the color of the verticals in front and the grill work, it will make a big difference.   I like doing that kind of stuff, however, it is petty compared to the knowledge I have and intensity to do bigger things; things that have rewards other than monetary.  While I agreed with your stance a few days ago regarding direction, it left out the leading of my spirit.   Truly you are the first female in my life that I have ever listened to; you were right, however, I need the fulfillment of a bigger picture, a contribution to mankind sort of.   Today I am hurting; not physically, just hurting in my being, wanting to be more.  I am frustrated without having any power at all.  I am talking to you and thinking about all this at the same time.  I do not know what else to say right now.  Please know that I love you, what I suffer from today is not fatal.  Love, PK   I've been writing my story since I was able to write, but when the media goes to share it, they only choose the parts that fit their idea of what will generate views.  If I'm going to share my story, it should be the whole story.  The titles are the dates things happened. What if you've been told you’ve got PCOS and that you're going to struggle to conceive? But your doctor has told you not to worry because you can just get fertility treatment like Clomid. So you think “okay well I’ll just do that then.” Then you realize Clomid isn't just as easy as taking a pill and going on your way. It’s actually a really invasive hormone therapy, that makes you feel like hot trash. So you have to go back and continue to get scans to see how that follicle is growing but that’s no quick process. So she followed their advice but then was thinking "this doesn't work for me. I don't like this, I actually don't want to do this." So what do you then? What can you do if your doctors have told you this is the only way you’ll conceive but this doesn’t feel right for you? Surely there’s another way? Well, this is where we can actually look at your cycles and ovulation, see what’s going on for you and getting you hormonally back on track to help you conceive. Getting pregnant naturally is so possible for many women with PCOS. Several years ago Sean Doyel was looking after his friend's home while he was away. In our passage today from Jesus’s teaching on money and things, we see Him connect worry and meeting our needs to our relationship with Him. His words offer us promise and encouragement. “Yes, a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God.” Then, turning to his disciples, Jesus said, “That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food to eat or enough clothes to wear. For life is more than food, and your body more than clothing. Look at the ravens. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for God feeds them. And you are far more valuable to him than any birds! Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? And if worry can’t accomplish a little thing like that, what’s the use of worrying over bigger things? “Look at the lilies and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. And if God cares so wonderfully for flowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith? “And don’t be concerned about what to eat and what to drink. Don’t worry about such things. These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers all over the world, but your Father already knows your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and he will give you everything you need. “So don’t be afraid, little flock. For it gives your Father great happiness to give you the Kingdom. (Luke 12:21-32 NLT) What is your greatest financial worry right now? What is stressing you out about money? Jesus encourages us to trust Him, to give those cares to Him. Listen again to verses 31 and 32. Take these in, trust and believe Him: Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and he will give you everything you need. “So don’t be afraid, little flock. For it gives your Father great happiness to give you the Kingdom. Right now, in this moment, literally hand over your worries and stresses about money to Jesus. Show Him you are taking Him at His Word. Seek Him today. Seek His kingdom. Then he’ll take care of yours. Let’s agree together: “Father, I hand over my debit card, the credit cards, my bank accounts, every dime I have, and every dime I don’t, to You. I also hand over my bills and all my worries. Give me wisdom. Guide me. Take control. I’ve seen what I can do, now show me what You can do. While You work on my behalf, I will seek You and Your kingdom. As above, so below.”

After being diagnosed with End Stage AIDS, Robert Tremblay was admitted to hospice to live out his remaining time. He tells how he remembers slipping away and having a conversation with a man on the other side of this reality. The fact was that he had died and was now having a profound experience with consciousness. He was told he had to go back because he had work to do. Robert has started a charity to Give A Buck and help get testing to be a routine procedure at any doctors office or health clinic.
