Alastair Greene New World Blues- In his Own Words
Guitarist, Singer, and Songwriter Alastair Greene has been a mainstay of the Southern California music scene for three decades. Following a 2018 live album that celebrated the 20th anniversary of his noteworthy Alastair Greene Band, the singer-songwriter/guitarist returns with an inspired solo collection, "The New World Blues". A much in-demand guitarist and vocalist, Greene has traveled the world, touring with the legendary Alan Parsons Live Project from 2010 – 2017, as well as stints with Starship featuring Mickey Thomas and, most recently, Blues Music Award-winner Sugaray Rayford. His work with Parsons, in particular, sparked a conversation with renowned multi-instrumentalist and producer Tab Benoit at a Las Vegas blues festival. In 2019, Greene signed with Benoit’s Whiskey Bayou Records label. Alastair headed to Benoit’s Houma, Louisiana studio outside New Orleans to track The New World Blues. With Benoit, on drums, and bassist Corey Duplechin, the three formed a classic power trio, recording nearly the entire album live in the studio. Featuring funky, swampy grooves and flights of muscular guitar, Greene delivers an album stirred by touchstones such as Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble, yet perhaps most often guided by the roadmap of Gov’t Mule and that band’s synthesis of The Allman Brothers Band’s improvisational firepower and the raw, stripped-down electric Blues-rock of Cream. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/tophillrecording/support

Tab Benoit’s Whiskey Bayou Records has just released a solo acoustic version of Alastair Greene’s “Bayou Mile,” a song from his critically acclaimed recent album THE NEW WORLD BLUES. The album dropped in October 2020, quickly garnering rave reviews, hitting #3 and #6 in its first two weeks on the Billboard Blues Chart, climbing major radio charts, and getting heavy airplay on Sirius/XM’s Bluesville. Greene had traveled to Houma, Louisiana to record with Grammy-nominated Benoit, who produced, played drums and sang harmonies on this record, along with bass player Corey Duplechin. The diverse, thoughtfully penned songs are all Greene originals, with a few co-written with Benoit. The 11 songs cover a lot of ground, tying together Greene’s varied influences into his deeply rooted playing, singing and songwriting. The songs are stylistically diverse, but they all capture the feel of the Cajun environment, paired with a rock-solid Louisiana rhythm section. “’Bayou Mile’ was one of 2 songs that I wrote with Tab Benoit during the recording sessions for THE NEW WORLD BLUES. Tab had already worked with me on arranging and re-writing a couple of the tunes I brought with me so I already trusted his instincts and direction. Tab lives by a bayou outside of New Orleans in Houma, Louisiana. One day before we started working I took a walk around his neighborhood and some lyrics started forming in my head. I had just come off of a long U.S. tour and had been stranded at JFK airport for the night trying to get to New Orleans. So I started with that lyrically. When I got back to the studio I started messing around on Tab's acoustic guitar. When Tab came to the studio to begin work that day I started showing him the song and told him I needed help with the lyrics. He came up with so many amazing lines that really painted a glorious picture. Only someone that grew up in the bayou could come up with lyrics such as "So lay me down in the sugar cane, and wash over me like a summer rain." So good! This song has become what is probably my favorite song on the album and definitely my favorite song that I've ever co-written with anyone. This song started on acoustic guitars so it makes sense and means a lot to me to release an acoustic version of it." - Alastair Greene

The much acclaimed US blues rock guitarist Alastair Greene has released his latest album ‘The New World Blues' to across the board stellar reviews and a #3 US Billboard Blues Chart placing. “When I started writing the majority of these songs in early 2019, I had no idea they would take on a whole new and more poignant meaning as time went on.” muses Greene, “The album is a reflection of current times and has equal parts light and dark.” The collection of songs was produced by Whiskey Bayou Records co-founder Tab Benoit. Benoit's label partner, Rueben Williams, also Manager to Greene and Benoit, enthuses, “On this album, Alastair makes it clear why he is a ‘guitar player's guitar player' and this recording will surely leave the Alastair Greene stamp on the blues rock world.” After many years playing with the highly revered Alan Parsons Live Project, Alastair has opened shows for many blues scene favourites in The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Robin Trower, John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers, Jonny Lang…anyone who is any good is busy right? In addition, prior to the pandemic, he traversed the globe touring with Sugaray Rayford's band, which was nominated for a 2020 Blues Music Award. Greene trekked from his native Southern California to Houma, Louisiana to record with Grammy nominated Benoit, who also produced, co penned a few songs, played drums, sang harmonies on this record, and bass player Corey Duplechin. Greene has a diverse set of influences and doesn't limit himself in his playing so as to not pigeonhole himself, an attraction among many to his style. Some tracks give a tip of the hat to Gary Moore and Peter Green, whereas others find a more laid back funky groove. His stellar slide guitar is up front in places, in addition to heavier tones while others capture the feel of the Cajun environment, combined with a rock-solid Louisiana rhythm section which thrills and draws the listener in. “I endeavor to play the blues. It's some of my favorite music. I have a responsibility to inform where this music comes from,” Greene passionately states, “This is a Black, African-American art form that is basically responsible for everything we love today. I want to be true to what I love.” ‘The New World Blues' is here and everyone is welcome to play.
Blues Rock Musician Alastair Green discusses how he got into music, the importance of the heritage of the Blues, and how his October 2020 release "The New World Blues" is even more relevant today than when he wrote it in 2019.Follow Alastair:https://agsongs.com/FacebookTwitterFollow MNPR Magazine: www.mnprmagazine.comFacebookTwitterInstagramSupport the show (http://paypal.me/mnprmagazine)

Making a Scene Presents Turn it up with Gerry Casey with an interview with Joseph Morganfield"Joseph Mojo Morganfield, didn’t start out life as a blues player. Even though you would think that’s the natural path he would take but no. Joseph was very much interested in sports. In fact until recently Joseph’s life was far removed from the world of music. But eventually the pull from the world of music became so strong that it was inevitable Joseph would take to the stage just like his Father and Brothers had done before hm. In fact his latest single Good To Be King topped the blues charts in the states and other regions. It looked like a promising career was beckoning. Then sadly on December 10th 2020 Joseph Morganfield passed at the age of 56.Earlier this year I had the privilege to interview Joseph for Turn It Up. Broadcast earlier in the year. It gives the listeners an up close and personal view of what was going on in the world of Joseph Mojo Morganfield.""We here at the station felt it would be a fitting way to celebrate the life, and pay tribute to joseph by rebroadcasting this interview on tonight’s show. Alastair Greene formed his own blues trio in 1997. Along the way, toured and recorded with Alan Parsons for 7 years, and has released 8 solo albums along the way. Great convo talking about his experience at Berklee, how he got the gig with Parsons, some early personal and financial struggles he had to deal with, meeting & playing with Steve Morse, getting comfortable and confident with himself and his playing, and much more. Alastair Greene- Bluesman, Alan Parsons Project and beyond...
This week, my old friend Alastair Greene stops by. We trace his band history from his first work with The Crime, to the Alan Parsons Live Project, to his latest cd, The Alastair Greene Band "Trouble At Your Door". Open up and let trouble in. Alastair Greene is Front of House.
After a week of travel as a Tortured Soul, being MC at the Tall City Blues Fest and just having a qwonderful time, we get back to business with another episode of Music On The Couch. Alastair Greene formed his first blues rock trio back in 1997 and over the years it has included alumni of the Steve Miller Band, Paul Butterfield Band and Junior Wells Band..and that is saying a lot! The new album is entitled Trouble At Your Door and Alastair will be joining me to talk about his journey and the new music. While I was at Tall City, Chejimi Patricola was at the PA Blues Fest...we will discuss both festivals and what is coming up for Jimi in the coming month. Alexis P Suter is coming to The Couch for the first time and we are lucky to have her appear the night before her new album, Love The Way You Roll drops. Alexis and I will talk about her amazing journey and where she wants to go next. Finally, COUCH KID NEW MUSIC brings back Arsen Shaomakov to share his new album Dynamic with us.
Alastair Greene talks about Alan Parsons Live project, his new album, "Through The Rain" and plays live in the studio. Plus great blues!!
