Let's face it...there is a lot going on in the world today and there are plenty of things to be anxious or upset about as a parent. But just because we are anxious or upset, doesn't mean your child has to be that way! Too many times in my office I have a parent calling me in a panic about how upset their child is about something or how worried they are...only to sit down with the child and find out that they really don't feel that way. To be effective as a parent we have to make sure that we are not projecting our own emotions on to our children. So how do we know when we are doing it? Tune in for today's show where we talk about the most common signs that we are projecting emotions on to others as well as how we can use mindfulness to back the train up and choose a more effective option. Listen in for tips that you can help you start making more intentional decisions as a parent right away
Near the top of the list of feedback that we received from parents were tips on how to help their kids reintegrate back into in-person classes. For this episode we discuss tips for dealing with their child's anxiety, lack of motivation, bad habits, electronics usage, atrophy of social skills, and lost time in preparing for college applicatiopns/jobs.
Have you ever really wondered what your counselor, psychologist, or therapist really thinks about the problems they see in their office? For the first episode in the new season listeners are treated to a rare opportunity to finally get an honest answer as to what their therapists really think of their kids addiction, anxiety, depression, and failure to launch issues.
After watching the ESPN Documentary The Last Dance, I found myself amazed with how Phil Jackson was able to manage to keep all of those personalities and egos in check while simultaneously winning 6 NBA Championships. It got me thinking about how sports in general has always been a lightning rod for the civil rights movement and not the Black Lives Matter movements and somehow through all of those tense moments in our history and present...teams were able to operate at a high level and work together no matter what. If sports teams are able to do it why can't we find a way as a country to do the same? What is unique about sports teams and locker rooms that allow people even opposed to each other still find ways to work together? What is missing in our country that we can borrow from professional sports teams to help us do the same thing? To help us explore we invited renown sports psychologist Dr. Justin Anderson of Premier Sport Psychology onto the show. Dr Anderson has worked for years with professional and collegiate sports teams which affords him a unique perspective of the interpersonal and psychological makeup of a professional sports team. What do we find out from Dr Anderson? You will have to listen to find out but I can tell you that Phil Jackson and aliens might be the solutionInstead of being part of the problem and spreading fake news, tune in to the one place you know isn't fake....Gray Matters Radio! Part of getting older is being able to realize and admit that what you have been doing isn't working and being okay with not knowing how to fix it. That is the sum of how I have felt in the past few weeks watching America tear itself apart not only among party lines but alone racial and socioeconomic lines.I will admit that I have felt guilty recently over my view that being color-blind was the best way to deal with racial in-equality because it only has led to what we are seeing on TV and in our communities. I want to be part of the solution so for this special episode of Gray Matters, I invited a long time friend of the show and one of my best friends of over 22 years Leon Cradle into the studio to have a hard talk about race in America.More importantly we made sure that no question was left off the table and gave each other permission to be more blunt then we ever have before. Our hope is that by asking questions such as:What do white people not understand about racial inequality that they should? What is it that people are getting wrong about the protests?Explain the anger and what is behind it?Is looting getting in the way of the message? Why is there some back lash towards white people who are joining protests or advocating online? How do comments such as "thugs" Lowlifes" etc. have on people of color? What white people are afraid to ask or do?What can we do from here...what needs to happen right now? What is your opinion of leadership in the black community right now?Lastly, Is it detrimental to only look at these protests as being about race rather than also about economic inequality? Our goal is to model how black and white people can talk to each other in a different way to start some level of understanding so we can move forward and most importantly come up with real solutions that are more than just putting duct tape on the problem and actually coming up with real change. We have to because our country will tear itself apart if we don't. Our common goal should be peace, understanding, and prosperity and every action should have that in mind...instead of not trying to look weak or trying to score political points or ratings.Instead of being part of the problem and spreading fake news, tune in to the one place you know isn't fake....Gray Matters Radio! Let me see a show of hands...how many people here understand epidemiology and virology? Unless your name is Dan Evans you are not raising your hands right now because its freaking complicated. Which is why we need people we trust to give us the information we need and delivered in a way we can understand so we can make decisions that are best for us, our families, and our businesses. But therein lies the problem...Americans are split down largely party lines in their views of the Covid-19 shutdown and not surprisingly there is confusion over the most basic things such as should I send my child back to preschool? Should I open my business? Is it okay to visit my older parents? Nobody knows the right answers because Republicans can't acknowledge fault or any mistakes because Democrats will pounce on it and make Trump look bad and Democrats cannot acknowledge any positives because it will give political capital. So we have people we pay to work for us and protect us and when we need them to do their job the most they do what they always do and let political capital and votes dictate what they say and do.The result is a country that has no idea what is real and what isn't, no idea who to believe including our own CDC and Corona Virus Task Force, and families are confused what actions to take to keep their families safe. In a family parents make decisions that are best for their family even when it is not convenient for them because that is what you do as a parent. So what is America's Counselor advice? Simple...stop doing what is best for you and your party and instead be the parents in the room and tell us what we need to here instead of what you think we want to hear. Your political lives are not equal to actual American's lives!Instead of being part of the problem and spreading fake news, tune in to the one place you know isn't fake....Gray Matters Radio! How many times have you heard people say that we need a new independent 3rd political party to run for president and to keep the Democrats and Republicans in check? How many times have we had a 3rd party candidate and they get labeled a selfish pariah that siphoned votes and handed it to the other candidate?Exactly...we say that we want a 3rd party candidate but each time they run not enough people support them, their message doesn't change a damn thing, and they just end up causing more trouble then good. So we decided to dive into this topic by inviting our good friend Dr. Eric Larson host of the new podcast The Amash Files into the studio for a joint podcast episode to discuss his good friend Justin Amash running for president on the Libertarian ticket and to discuss the psychology or mental roadblocks that get in the way of people supporting a 3rd party candidate for president. We also interviewed 3 listeners from both sides of the spectrum to get their insights into their support or lack of support for a 3rd part candidate and how their honest insight might provide a 3rd party candidate the psychological road map to get voters over the hump and gain their support. In case you didn't know it, America is pretty divided and not even a killer virus can make us get along. The latest couples spat is a brewing war between the Liberate America's Economy movement and the Social Distancing movement where apparently each side thinks the other's plans will end America as we know it. Not exactly a typical couples counseling session where parents disagree over where their kid should go to school? So what the hell do we do? Well for starters we need a different approach and a public debate where two people yelling at each other, not listening, and saying they are going to kill America is NOT the answer. So for this episode of Gray Matters we asked 3 simple questions to an epidemiologist, nurse, and a general contractor to not try to change their mind but to listen to them and get an understanding of what they believe about the shutdown, how they formed that opinion, and what they think about how politicized it it has become. So who is really behind the Covid-19 pandemic? Depending on what corners of the internet you live in, your answer might range from China, USA, Bill Gates, Democrats, Deep State, New World Order...hell I even saw theories placing the blame on Unicorns. Okay...maybe not Unicorns but you get the point. So we wouldn't be Gray Matters if we didn't at least look under the hood of the most widely circulated conspiracy theories on the interwebs and try to find a way to apply a scientific methodology to weeding out what theories had any factual or plausible basis. Helping us in our quest to find some truth we invited our good friend Big B from The Cave Crew Radio Show to help keep Bill and I honest. With so much attention in the media being about NYC's death toll and President Trump's perceived lack of action in January, many parts of this country that are being affected by Corona Virus are not getting the attention that they need. That is why we are dedicating our show the next few weeks into telling the stories that the news is just not covering. For this week, we invited our Colorado Snow For Life crew, onto the show to discuss what is happening out there in Summit Country. Joining us in The Gray is Founder Kevin Sayler, USA Junior Olympic Freestyle Skiing Coach Teddy Goggin, and Weston Back Country & Summit Country snow-boarding legend Zach GriffinWhat do our boys tell us? To put their plight in perspective, 7.7% of all hospitality jobs are in Colorado and their #2 employer is ski resorts, restaurants, and hotels. So when that industry is getting kicked in the mouth as a result of the shutdown, you don't have to be a social scientist to realize how dire the landscape might be in Colorado after all of this. But just like we are seeing across this country...people are stepping up to help out the local businesses...neighbors are helping out neighbors...people are just doing what needs to get done to save their community. There is beauty in all of this and the Summit Strong mentality is restoring my faith in humanity one story at a time. You know you live in odd times when there is a worldwide deadly virus pandemic and most people you talk to in America are more worried about the economy then peoples lives. Its not to say people don't care about the virus, it just speaks volumes to the damage the quarantine has had on the global economy. So what will the economy look like in America 2.0? Depending on who you talk to its either going to be a economic wasteland or it will serve as a catalyst to finally address some major issues in our economy. So we wanted to get to the bottom of this debate and we do what any good American does when they don't don't have the answer...we go to our parents for the answer.Join us as we invite our long time economic and foreign policy correspondent Richard "The Professor" DeVine onto the show where we tap into his MBA in Operations plus his 30 years of manufacturing and supply-chain experience to help us understand what data we should look at to predict what the economy will look like after all of this. We have all seen the horrific numbers and images that are coming out of New York City, which has become one of the major fronts in the battle against Corona Virus. It is absolutely sobering to watch the daily news and see images coming out of NYC that you typically would see coming out of a 3rd world war torn country. While much of the news coverage has been focused on the disease itself and the bursting at the seams hospital system, what has been missing is the psychological toll this outbreak is having on the citizens of NYC who aren't sick. What is their new reality and what is it like to watch all of this unfold right in front eyes? We enlisted our good friend Big B, co-host of The Cave Crew Radio Show who is currently living under stay at home orders in the heart of Queens New York to give us a blunt assessment of his new reality. Imagine living in the middle of the biggest Corona Virus hot zone in the world while trying to protect your family at the same time as also being in the top risk group for Corona Virus complications. Its scary times that we are living in, but regardless of what part of the country we live in...today we are all New Yorkers. Is it fair to blame Trump for the supply shortages that our hospitals and healthcare workers are facing during this corona virus outbreak? To answer this question we invited our good friend Richard DeVine who is a 30 year veteran of the healthcare industry including being the SVP of Supply-Chain and Chief Resource Officer of Mount Carmel Healthcare System. So what did we learn from our guest? For one the supply shortage is a systemic issue that goes back to the 1980's and even if we knew 1 year ago about this pandemic, it would have been impossible to ramp up production to not have the shortages that we are experiencing. That being said our guest also said the military has had the inventory the entire time and should have been activated sooner. As always the answer is in The Gray so be sure to check out our latest podcast to make sure you understand why our doctors and nurses are in danger and based on our understanding of the real problems, are able to layout suggestions as to what needs to happen right now as well as what fixes need to be instituted systemically to prevent this from happening again. With the world going into lock down over #covid19, I have been asked by every one of my clients what they can do to stay sane during the quarantine as well as how they can help explain the gravity of the situation with their children without scaring them too much.It is not just my clients either...my own daughter has been struggling to deal with her fear over the #coronavirus as well as how to deal with the fact that her mom and my wife is a nurse who is putting herself in harms way every day right now. There is no easy way to deal with any of this and if someone tells you they know exactly what to do they are full of shit. There is no handbook on what to do here so I am putting my counselor hat on and we are going to work through this together! For this special episode we decided to broadcast it live so we can take your questions live on Facebook and Spreaker...plus what else are we doing on a Tuesday evening during a quarantine? So write down any question you have and join America's Counselor & The Armchair QB Live tomorrow evening only on the 6one4 Radio Network.
If you go on Facebook right now you will see posts from your friends that say you should be panicking and buying mass amounts of toilet paper or that its all a Democratic hoax to bring down Donald Trump. So what is the truth? Should we be be panicking or is it all a hoax?To get a real answer and the latest on the COVID-19 outbreak we invited our good friend infectious disease researcher & graduate student at University of Pittsburgh Dan Evans back to the show to set the record straight and to help us understand what information we should be paying attention to. What does Dan think? It begins with understanding that "we should be CONCERNED...not panicking" What does that mean...you will have to turn in to find out! Just to get this out of the way...read this post or better yet...actually watch my show before you message me on Twitter or Facebook! Don't do the Russian trolls job's for them and just read a headline and react! Now with that disclaimer out of the way...I am still here! I thought I was going to get attacked by angry Democrats this week but I survived and lived to craft another winning message for a candidate. Super Tuesday was a game changer for the race with Mayor Pete and Amy Klobuchar getting out of the race and putting their support behind Biden. The guy whose campaign that was left for dead last week is suddenly leading the delegate totals. Crazy I know!So what can Bernie do to win this primary? Well my first piece of advice is that maybe its time to listen to what moderates have been saying because as Super Tuesday's results clearly show now you have to win moderates to get this nomination. How does he do that? Well it begins with maybe listening to our guest who happens to be a former Bernie supporter who has changed her support for this election. If you listen to why she changed her vote you see quickly that voters coalescing around Bernie has less to do with a DNC conspiracy and more to do with moderate Dems and Independents feeling belittled and devalued by Bernie and his supporters. But have no fear I have a plan! So if you want to know the plan...you gotta listen. And don't just listen...join the discussion and if you like the plan share with all your fellow Berners!Instead of being part of the problem and spreading fake news, tune in to the one place you know isn't fake....Gray Matters Radio! Perhaps one of the most frustrating things about the 2020 Election isn't Donald Trump Vs The Democrats, but more The Democrats Vs. The Democrats. Just watching the debates and the various campaign events it is abundantly clear the candidates do not have a clue how to appeal to anyone who is outside of their base. Too much time is spent talking at people with little forethought as to how those comments are coming across to the very people you are trying to convert. So we are taking it upon ourselves to do their job for them! This week's episode kicks off the first in a series of episodes aimed at laying out what each candidate needs to do to beat their opponents. What better way to do that then try to convince on the air & in real time a supporter of another candidate? For this weeks installment we are laying out the playbook for how the Democratic Party can beat Bernie Sanders and convert his supporters. Playing the role of Bernie Sanders supporter we invited Medium writer & lead singer of Tethra David Kelly into the studio to help us understand the Bernie Sanders movement and get his honest feedback about our playbook and whether it changed anything about his support for Sanders. To keep us honest, we invited our good friend Dan Evans back on the show to give a neutral moderate take on the playbook as well. Part 2 of this 2 part podcast focuses in on Michael taking all of the feedback he received from Bernie Sanders supporters and created hypothetical policy proposals including healthcare, tax reform, and student loan forgiveness to see if presented with viable alternative positions that address their concerns, would they support this hypothetical candidate. This is a trick question and a psychological experiment from yours truly, America's Counselor! There is no correct answer to this question because Democrats and Republicans are both equally as hypocritical albeit it in different ways. So how did we get this way and is there any turning back?Chances are if you only read the headline then you are part of the 60% of people who only read headlines and will message me angry tweets or Facebook posts telling me how biased I am or a shill for one party thus setting yourself up as part of the problem. Obviously not a huge part of the problem, that dubious honor goes to the political parties themselves and the psychologists they hire to hack our psychology to their gain. But we do need to ask ourselves the question that if we know they aren't going to change and they are trying to use psychology against us...why are we making it easier on them and carrying out their plan to perfection? Divide and Conquer right? So join us as myself and co-host Bill "The Armchair QB" dissect the psychology behind why politicians are hypocritical, how they justify it, and the most egregious examples from all the players in DC. You can't denote the irony that in a political climate where gender, race, sexuality, and economic inequality are one sides biggest issues, many people who are not part of those groups feel like they can't talk about it. Because of narrow-minded and bigoted hate groups, professionals like myself find it difficult to discuss these issues out of fear of being labeled a sexist, racist, etc. I couldn't even make a comment about a female candidate on my Twitter without being told my implicit racial and gender bias disqualified me from making any opinion that mattered. While maybe not their intention, it makes you feel like your opinion doesn't matter. Now this podcast episode is not about complaining about gender but more to draw attention to a huge problem we are seeing with men in this country. It seems to be a popular punch line among feminist groups but why is nobody talking about the causes of why men are commiting the most mass shootings, murder suicides of spouses and their own children, suicide rates, addiction, depression, and failure to launch? Why is this problem getting worse when awareness for mental illness is at its highest? Why are the rates getting much worse for men and at a lower rate for women? The most important question...when looking at the data why is it most of these issues started getting worse at the same time toxic masculinity started becoming a big topic? Why did failure to launch overwhelmingly affect men and at the same time the self-esteem movement started in the 80s and 90s?The truth is men are lost and have no identity. Countless middle-aged, 20 something, and teen boys in my office say time and time again they feel scared of everything, paralyzed by the fear of failure, scared of judgement, and weaker at dealing with normal life stress than ever before. Ever piece of research all says the same thing. Women, rightfully so, are more bad asses, empowered, and tough than ever before and I love it. Equality is still not where it should be and the proud father of a little girl and a strong bad ass wife I want it to be further along and none of this is about taking away women empowerment. What we are wanting to talk about it the problem that the current environment is making it tough to have discussions and out of the dynamic problems are not being addressed. Our men are not doing well and the problem is only getting worse and my fear is that while we empowered women, the same tactics to help our boys with toxic masculinity has actually stripped away some of the things that they needed to survive and be more resilient. Women are emotionally tougher then men thanks to 1000s of years of oppression and a 15% larger limbic system. I think that is where it went wrong and out of a good thing we may have helped one gender but hurt another. Then out of fear of being labeled a sexist, no men dare talk about it...but we have to.So that's our episode folks! Please listen to the whole thing because just reading the title and making a comment helps no one...we need to have this discussion. I am not saying I am right with my hypothesis by we need to have a discussion as to what's going on with men in this country. How we can we further gender and racial equality if a large part of the population who isn't female or a person of color feels like they can talk or ask questions?Joining us in the studio to discuss this hot button topic is our good friend author and high school teacher Matthew Bryant who is going to serve as a biopsy area per se of this issue from the perspective of a teacher and author. Matthew is the author of the World in Between Trilogy with his latest release Vessel available on Amazon and e-readers everywhere. I must admit, President Trump's Make America Great Again motto is perhaps one of the greatest campaign mottoes of all time. But something about the motto has been bugging me lately. I keep asking myself, how can we Make America Great Again when one half of the country hates the other and wants them to leave? How do you reform healthcare when half the country doesn't care if someone doesn't have insurance? How do you reform education when half the country feels they have no responsibility to education poor people? Hell, how do you make the economy better when half of the country thinks if you are poor its your own damn fault? The easy answer is that you can't! As of right now even if one political party came up with the most perfect healthcare solution, the other party wouldn't vote for it just out of spite and not wanting to give them a victory. To truly Make America Great Again we have to Make America Care Again and we do that by electing candidates who realize that having a different opinion about the direction of our country doesn't mean you have to hate the other side. We need candidates that that for once listen to their constituents and make politics more local and less about divisive national issues. Little by little we are seeing a new breed of candidates who are tired of our elected officials serving themselves and their donors and deciding that the way to invoke change is to do it themselves. That is why I was excited when I heard the news that our good friend Christopher Schulte decided enough is enough and announced his candidacy for the 4th district of North Carolina. Even more lucky is that I pulled my friend card to get his 1st interview! What does a house party and a corona virus have in common? According to infectious disease researcher and University of Pittsburgh graduate student Dan Evans, once the party has started the only thing you can do is mitigate the damage. In case you haven't been paying attention, there has been an outbreak of a new virus in China that has spread rather quickly and has sparked concerns that it might turn into a global pandemic. We are all about a great virus/plague movie but when the plot line of a movie begins to mimic what is happening in reality it can get scary very quickly. So what exactly is this new corona virus? Should we be worried about it? Is there anything we can be doing to keep ourselves safe? Is the fly seemingly getting more severe and if so what role if any does climate change play in it?To help us answer these questions we are joined by our good friend Dan Evans who is a graduate student at the University of Pittsburgh studying infectious diseases. Instead of reading the hype lets go straight to an expert who may know a thing or two about the topic. When our interview with "Lev Parnas" went in a direction that none of us could predict, it was on America's Counselor & the Armchair QB to do the heavy lifting and find out who exactly Lev Parnas is and why he takes so many damn pictures with people who have no idea who he is.What exactly do we find out about Lev? Well he has been in America for a very long time, he has a knack for owning businesses that get investigated, and is either a shrewd international influencer or perhaps one of the greatest campaign crasher of all time. Where does the truth lie? Only time will tell but not even the Armchair QB who has carried more water for Trump on this show than anybody can dismiss everything Lev said on Rachel Maddow last week. What better time to continue testing out our new dedication to sticking to the facts then President Trump capping Iranian General Qassem Soleimani? For this episode of Gray Matters we bring in our foreign affairs correspondent Richard "The Professor" DeVine to help us understand who Qassem Soleimani is, how he came to power, and most importantly why The US wanted him dead. Of course we cannot have a discussion about whether killing him was justified without a deep dive into what the Iranian Nuclear deal was, what it was supposed to do, and whether it truly was a good or bad deal. What did we find out? Well we surely figure out that Soleimani was not a good dude in any way shape or form and in-fact was one of the most powerful influencers in the middle-east. But does that necessarily mean killing him was the right move? We also figure out that surprise surprise, most people who hate or love the Iran nuclear deal really have no clue what was actually in the deal.Instead of being part of the problem and spreading fake news, tune in to the one place you know is fake....Gray Matters Radio! Its a new year but we can't seem to get away from the drama can we? Good thing our New Year's resolution was to not get distracted by the drama and instead focus on the real problems facing Americans. So keeping true to our resolution we didn't take the bait and talk about Iran but instead we focused on the biggest issue on American's minds...healthcare. Instead of waiting around for our government to figure it out we instead turn our attention to what we, healthcare professionals and patients can do to improve the quality of our healthcare. Joining us in the studio this week is chiropractic neurologist Dr. Chris Mabry with Ability Chiropractic to discuss the power that we have to improve our healthcare system. We discuss a wide range of solutions such as taking the ego our of medical care and have clinicians coordinate care better, shift to a focus on preventative medicine (yes we have to prioritize that in our lives), healing instead of masking symptoms, and most important...MOVE! For part 2 of our New Years Eve special, we decided to take Donald Trump's advice and listen more to each other over the holidays. So what better way to take the Orange Mist's advice than to take the snowflakevictory.com challenge! What is said challenge? Literally 5 minutes after Trump tweeted about listening and understanding each other more his son launched snowflakevictory.com...a comprehensive guide on how to win arguments with your liberal snowflake relatives over the holidays. I am not even going to comment on the seemingly mutual exclusivity of the two initiatives. So how does it end...who wins? Well nobody because stuff like this makes all of us lose...but we sure as heck had fun doing it. But have no fears, our good friends at Cave Crew Radio loaned us out Big B for the night as guest co-host....thanks guys!So what do we have in store for our listeners this Christmas Eve? We have a delightful debate about whether A Christmas Story is overrated, debating the merits of Diehard being a Christmas movie & if so should Lethal Weapon & Trading Places be added to that list, and we also take advantage of having a New Yorker in the studio and dive into who the real Mike Bloomberg is and what he is really up to running for president. Why in the hell does it seem like critical thinking is in such short supply these days? Maybe it has something to do with our schools reinforcing standardized tests & memorization rather than the process in which you came to the right answer. If only schools did the opposite then we maybe our country would not be as polarized as it currently is and perhaps we could sniff out BS easier. According to our guest Kevin Stoller, Founder and CEO of Kay Through Twelve educational consultants, schools are already changing how they teach and its happening faster than he ever believed. I know, funny having a guest for once that attempts to make Mike feel optimistic about the future but we can't be all doom and gloom right? So join us as we discuss how k-12 education is failing students by overemphasizing college as the destination and the key to saving America is to Make America Think Again. As always I am joined by my co-host, the Armchair QB Bill Reed to help keep me in line and firmly in the Gray. With Mayor Pete becoming a legitimate candidate for president, I find it interesting that we do not hear the candidate and the media discussing whether America is ready for a gay president in the same manner they spoke about the country being ready for a black president in 2008. Why do I think this is something that needs to be talked about? In 2008 shortly before the election, 76% of people polled said that the country was ready for a black president. Up a full 16% from the same poll conducted in 2006. So what do people think about America being ready for a gay president in 2019? Only 50% of people polled said that they felt the country was ready for a gay president. Does Mayor Pete have a problem here? If the country was barely ready in 2008 when 76% of the country said we were ready for a black president, how difficult will it be for Mayor Pete at 50% Will his numbers continue to rise as the country gets to know him or does he need to address the issue head on?Join us for the latest episode as we discuss this topic as well as the difficulty in this country discussing the issues of race, gender, sexuality, etc. when you are not part of that group. When the PC culture has made it tough for people to talk about these issues have we over shot the mark with being too sensitive about offending people that now we just don't even bring it up?As always I am joined by my co-host, the Armchair QB Bill Reed to help keep me in line and firmly in the Gray. So what happened when America's Counselor sat down with an ANTIFA member and tried to get them to find common ground? He realized that despite his best efforts, the far left and far right have no interest in compromise and are hell bent on a revolution that either never work or in the unlikely event does work, will lead to nothing but lawless anarchy. So if compromise is futile what do we do? Join the revolution of course! What should a revolution look like? Is it possible to have a revolution without destroying the very foundation of America that was worth fighting a revolution for? What better way to celebrate the holiday where we are supposed to be thankful for what we have by leaving our own families, making employees leave their own families, to buy shit that we just don't need? I know, I am beating up on Thanksgiving but in reality what happened to it? Its like we go right from one holiday that makes money (Halloween) and skip over Thanksgiving to celebrate the mother of all money making holidays....Christmas. Where is the faith and family values crowd on this one? Anyone....Bueller....Bueller? That's what I thought, they comically are absent when money gets in the way. So for this very special episode of Gray Matters Radio, we layout the road map to saving Thanksgiving and it begins with not shopping on Black Friday. Another week brings another blistering WTF segment from America's Counselor. What is chaffing Mike's ass this week? The Thursday night football game last week where we saw Myles Garrett get suspended for helping Mason Rudolph up by his helmet and helping him put it back on. I mean wtf....seriously...wtf were you thinking?Michael believes that obviously something was said to Myles Garrett that enraged him...which is par for the course with all of the violence we are seeing across the globe. Whether it be a fight at Popeye's, kids getting bullied at school, and now even a military officer being threatened and moved to a secure base. Americans have become a culture of becoming habitual line steppers and this is what happens. To help dive into this topic, we invited our good friend Leon "The Inspector" Cradle to the show to help give insight into being a football player and whether what happened last week was that over the line. What do we discuss, you have to tune in to find out but one thing for sure...Michael and Leon somehow both agree Discovery Channel's Gold Rush is a place we need to look to understand why things are so messed up but also lays out what the solution is.As always I am joined by my co-host, the Armchair QB Bill Reed to help keep me in line and firmly in the Gray. What is the proper way to celebrate Veteran's Day? It is a question that I think many of us have never really asked ourselves. On the surface we will give the answer of telling a soldier that we thank them for their service but is that really enough to honor their service and sacrifice? That is why for this very special episode of Gray Matters we invited The Professor Richard DeVine back into the studio. Richard is a Vietnam veteran who lucky for us is not short on opinions and sharing them with the world. According to The Professor, Veteran's Day should be more than just saying thank you but rather acting in ways that show their sacrifice wasn't for nothing. With American's fighting each other over the dumbest of things such as a Popeye's chicken sandwich, many Veterans are asking themselves whether people really appreciate the sacrifices they made. Their logic being if they really did, they wouldn't be fighting over trivial things and surely our politicians wouldn't be running our government and country into the ground for greater good of their political parties. Where do we begin? According to The Professor we need to stop fantasizing about the heroism of war and instead talk about how awful war really is and the lasting legacy it has on our surviving Veterans. If we did that, maybe people wouldn't be so cavalier with the very country that our Veteran's gave their lives and innocence to build and protect. We are under 100 days away from the first Democratic primary and we are starting to get a clear picture of who the legit candidates are going to be. So naturally we had to take a break from our weekly coverage of the Orange Mist to put the 2020 Democratic candidates on the couch.Joining us in the studio is our good friend Jacque Nowak from The Voice of The Radical Center Podcast. What did we see? For one Mayor Pete brought some fire to the debate and the polls numbers show contrary to popular belief, America likes emotion from a candidate. Elizabeth Warren has a giant target on her back and doesn't seem to like. Amy Klobuchar is like the honey badger and is fierce and doesn't give a f7$k. Just imagine if we lived in a world where each successive generation committed suicide at rates higher than the previous generation until it was the #2 cause of death. Thank God we don't...oh shit that is actually reality. The CDC this week released a report indicating that suicide is the #2 cause of death for Generation Z. You read that right...the 2nd leading cause of death is suicide for people 24 years-old and younger. One would think that would get some media attention but you can take a guess as to why no one in the media talked about it. Instead of making fun of Generation Z for being snowflakes and talking at them we did something different...we actually talked to them and allowed their voices to be heard. To accurately represent Generation Z we invited our very own Generation Z Ambassador...the new Gray Matters Intern Holly Frye into The Gray to give her unfiltered opinion on what is going on with Generation Z & more importantly help us understand what we need to do to reverse these troubling statistics. While watching The Joker this weekend, I couldn't help but notice the not so subtle message that director Todd Phillips was trying to send about the long term effects of runaway greed and wealth disparity in our country. Perhaps even more sobering is the recent economic data showing that the income gap between the wealthiest 1% and the poorest 50% has grown to its highest level ever. So we have to ask ourselves, with our country more divided than ever, more militant than ever, and more toxic than ever, how much more can society take before something happens? Our own economic correspondent Richard "The Professor" DeVine joins us in the studio to help us understand the economic picture of wealth/income disparity and explains how similar circumstances were the catalyst for the French Revolution as well as the rise of communist regimes in Russia and Germany. Should we be worried? Could a sociopath be the spark that starts a civil war between the wealthy and the poor? Who knows but it was enough to scare the crap out of me! Lost in the debate about whether or not Trump committed impeachable offenses is the question of what the fallout will be if Trump is successfully or unsuccessfully tried for impeachment. Will there be a civil war? Will impeachment be the new political tool of the minority party? Will we continue to have the "it's okay if our candidate did it but illegal if your candidate did it". The answer is all of the above and we should all ask ourselves whether this whole impeachment inquiry worth the negative consequences? To help us answer this question we welcome back our Trump correspondent Stelzer to give us the unfiltered opinion of Trump supporters everywhere about this whole Ukraine Trump mess and some of his answers may surprise you. Is it just me or does this Saudi Arabia oil refinery drone attack seem like a plot line from a Tom Clancy novel? On the surface it doesn't seem to make a lot of sense for Iran to do this but if they didn't then who would benefit from making it look like Iran is behind it? I will give you one guess and it rhymes with Prussia. To help us understand this puzzle we invite our very own foreign policy correspondent Richard "The Professor" DeVine to weigh in and help us understand the history of this region, who might benefit from framing Iran, and what Trump should look at to make sure we don't get fooled into a regional war that most likely would be WW3.As always I am joined by my co-host, the Armchair QB Bill Reed to help keep me in line and firmly in the Gray. When was the last time you went to CVS and thought twice about the quality of medicine you were getting? You don't and that is exactly how it should be! In the new era of medical cannabis, dispensaries across the country are working hard to educate the public about medical cannabis and building the public's trust in their products. Nowhere do we see these efforts paying off more than in our very own backyard with Columbus's own Terrasana Medical Cannabis Dispensary. To be in this business you have to really care about helping people and be passionate & educated about medical cannabis. So to see a local company literally having all of those factors in their DNA is exciting and always some of my favorite interviews. What is the cure for curing the cancer that is tearing our country apart? How about as parents we start by making our kids put away the electronics, make real in-person friends, and get the hell outside.Part of the problem in this country is the complete lack of empathy that people have for each other. Not even a hurricane can prevent people from posting the most ugly and dehumanized comments one could imagine. That is what happens when you raise a generation of children in front of a phone and their view of the world inherently becomes dehumanized. For this episode of Gray Matters Radio we welcome our good friend John Dalton into the studio to stroll down memory lane of our childhood.. What did we learn? We realized how not even 1000 miles of distance and 10 years since our last conversation can dampen the emotions and connections that we will forever have. On the converse we are saddened by the virtual friendships that most kids have today and fully understand why this generation feels so alone, purposeless, and isolated than ever before. Is it just me or are people really treating people like shit nowadays? It seems like every time I go out to the store now I see some customer berating a hapless employee or seeing two customers arguing over trivial things like parking spaces and where their cart is. Either I am just looking for these things or people really are more angry then they have before. Like Mayer Pete said a few weeks ago, he said our polarized and corrupted government is causing people to displace their anger and helplessness on each other and it must stop.So for tonight's episode we put America's anger towards each other on the couch and try to figure out why the media, politicians, and wealthy donor class is treating the American economy and electorate like a rental car they beat up and turn in at the end of the day. We dive into the Epstein "Suicide" and legitimately ask the question of WTF is going on and whether the Clinton Body is a real. Do we have a serial killer among us or are rich politicians and the donor class getting us to chase our tail again to distract us from looking at all of them?We also explore Mayor Pete's theory that mass shootings and polarization in general is the cause of displaced anger from Americans knowing our government is bought off by rich donors and corporations to only serve them at the expense of the country. What kind of people could knowingly do this? Is it narcissism, sociopathy, or just social psychology and group mentality at work? Joining us is our good friend Big B from Cave Crew Radio who just happens to study sociopathy and serial killers as a hobby. So here we are, another week and we have not 1, not 2, but 3...3 more mass shootings in this country. I cannot begin to express my frustration about this topic considering we literally just covered this topic a few episodes ago! But we refuse to just let these shootings deter us from trying to engage our listeners and the country in a way that breaks the cycle of outrage, polarization, and back into inaction again. So why do we keep falling into this cycle? Because instead of talking about what is really the cause of mass shootings we get caught up in arguing on Facebook or the media about gun control, conspiracy theories like false flag events, racism, Donald Trump being the anti-christ, etc. All this does is cue the same cycle of arguing and inaction which is exactly why we are in this mess and it must stop. For this very important and emotional episode, Michael and Bill discuss the role of political rhetoric as the main culprit in mass shootings and how it is pushing mentally unstable and marginalized people into action. We also dive into the recent comments by Mayor Pete that mass shootings are more about displaced anger and frustration with a government that only serves the special interest groups and donor classes. So help us change the dynamics of how we discuss these shootings! As always I am joined in the studio by the Armchair QB himself Bill Reed. With medical marijuana laws being passed across the country, we have seen a major public shift in the views of medicinal marijuana and cbd based medicines. But with that shift has also come a lot of false information, completely unsubstantiated claims, and doctors offices popping up everywhere to prescribe marijuana. What is the truth and what is the bs? How exactly does this stuff work and what does does it legitimately treat? And most importantly, how do you know you are seeing a legit doctor versus a clinic that just hands you a card? Nike is a billion dollar per company but one man and his 2 million plus Twitter followers were able to make a billion dollar company reverse course in a matters of days when they decided to release a limited edition Betsy Ross sneaker. In another example, we see one man start a Raid Area 51 Facebook page and within 30 days had over 1 million people willing to sacrifice their lives and freedom to raid the infamous Area 51 military base. In just one month we have seen the power of social media when they are able to get people to organize & focus on a hot button topic and use that power to make a huge company and possible our own government respond. But the question I ask is whether this very tactic could be used to take power away from the lobbyist? The very people who have used their money to buy our democracy and remade it to serve themselves rather than the citizens. Imagine if instead of putting all of this energy into a shoe company, what if we unleashed that on every special interest group and company that donates lobbying money. What if we put every company and politician on notice that if they take money and make laws that only cater them & their special interests then you and that company will be boycotted at the polls and at the register. Are we missing a golden opportunity to take our government back at the expense of banning plastic straws or a shoe? Only time will tell but we have all of the evidence that we need to know this tactic works, works quickly, and potentially is the answer to taking our country back. Never thought I would say this but thanks Colin Kapernick!
