Swappie, Europe's leading platform for refurbished iPhones, reveals a staggering €140 billion worth of unused mobile phones languishing in European households, underscoring a significant opportunity for economic recovery and environmental sustainability. Recent data from the European Commission highlights that over 700 million mobile phones are currently unused across the EU. Assigning an estimated average value of €200 per device, this dormant stockpile represents an untapped value of €140 billion. Each holiday season, millions of new smartphones are purchased, leading to a significant increase in the number of idle devices in households. This annual surge exacerbates the existing issue of tech bloat, underscoring the urgent need to reintegrate these devices into the circular economy. "Encouraging the circulation of these unused devices is crucial," says Emma Lehikoinen, Chief Operating Officer at Swappie. "By bringing them back into the market, we not only unlock substantial economic value but also contribute to environmental conservation by reducing electronic waste." A KANTAR study undertaken by Swappie indicated that 62% of Irish consumers retain their previous smartphones. Beyond the economic implications, unused mobile phones contain valuable materials, including critical raw materials essential for new technologies. The European Commission reports that the collection rate for mobile phones is under 5%, with an estimated 700 million unused devices stored in households across the EU. Enhancing the return and recycling of these devices is vital for resource efficiency and environmental sustainability. Swappie is at the forefront of the refurbished smartphone market, offering consumers high-quality, affordable alternatives to new devices. The company's rigorous refurbishment process ensures that each iPhone meets stringent quality standards, providing a reliable and sustainable option for tech enthusiasts. As the number of idle phones continues to rise, especially after the holiday season, Swappie urges consumers to consider the environmental and economic benefits of trading in their unused devices. Reintegrating these smartphones into the market supports the circular economy and helps mitigate the growing issue of electronic waste. See more stories here.

In this episode of the American Soul Podcast, I, Jesse Cope, tackle this pressing question by reflecting on the profound influence of biblical teachings—or the lack thereof—on our nation's well-being. As the cool air prompts us to gather around the warmth of a wood stove, we dig deep into how prayer and gratitude can anchor us in turbulent times. By revisiting the wisdom of historical figures like Fisher Ames and Horace Greeley, we challenge the status quo and consider how reintegrating faith into our daily decision-making and educational structures could transform our lives and society. We also explore the often-overlooked roles and responsibilities within our marriages and communities, encouraging listeners to evaluate their personal relationships through the lens of Christian teachings. Whether you're a parent striving to raise children with integrity or a spouse seeking to strengthen your marriage, this conversation provides practical insights for aligning your life with divine principles. You may have heard before that in order to get your period back with Hypothalamic Amenorrhea (aka a missing period due to under eating, overexercise and/or STRESS)...you need to exercise less.   With my clients, I actually recommend taking a FULL exercise break.   I believe this to be proven by the data we have on women who lose their periods due to HA, and the BEST path to regaining optimal hormonal health + become truly healthy and fit.   I took a 3 month exercise break back in 2018, and have walked hundreds of clients through this process.    I break down the what, how and why behind exercise breaks in this episode.   An exercise break = Temporarily stopping all structured exercise and only doing low-intensity exercise IF truly desired in the moment.   Taking an exercise break helps you get your period back by: Reducing cortisol (not suppressing the hypothalamus) Creating the proper calorie surplus to increase estrogen, leptin and insulin (sends signals to the hypothalamus: “we are fed”)

Text us your thoughts about this episode or ideas for future episodes! This conversation with Warren Doyle might need a bit of context if you're not well-versed in the long-distance thru-hiking scene in North America. Warren is a prominent figure in the Appalachian Trail community. While there's some debate about the exact beginning of the modern fastest known time (FKT) scene on the AT, Warren's impressive 1973 record of 66 days and change is widely considered a significant milestone.Warren's contributions to the trail are extensive. Over a 45-year period, he led eight large-group “circle” expeditions with near 100% completion rates. He founded the Appalachian Long Distance Hikers Association and established the Appalachian Trail Institute, which has helped thousands of hikers achieve their thru-hiking goals. He has also played a key role in preparing notable figures like Jenn Pharr Davis and Liz Derstine for record-setting endurance attempts, and has advised many other prominent endurance athletes, including Karel Sabbe.I'm excited to have Warren on the show for several reasons. First and foremost, my deep love for the AT and my ongoing quest to understand its history. Warren has been a central figure in shaping the trail's scene over the past 40 to 50 years. In our conversation, we'll explore topics like the nature of endurance records on long trails, the purpose of the AT, social change, the impact of the outdoor industry on thru-hiking culture, the relationship between government and nature, and much more.Regardless of your familiarity with the scene, I think you'll find this episode engaging. Warren is a vibrant and generous conversationalist, and I'm sure you'll gain a lot from our discussion.Timestamps:02:00 Introduction and Backlash on the AT10:34 The Commercialization of the Outdoor Industry17:48 The Relationship Between the Trail and the Government25:22 The Importance of Substantive Conversations on the Trail40:10 Regulations and Policing of Mount Katahdin44:39 The Amateur Aspect of Endurance Hiking47:26 The Role of Support Crews in Endurance Record Attempts01:03:36 Challenges of Reintegrating into Society after the AT01:11:54 Embracing a Wilderness State of Mind01:17:04 Supporting Dreams and Moving Forward01:24:05 The Role of a Social Change Educator01:31:55 Concerns about the Future of the Appalachian Trail Sponsors:Naak - use code SINGLETRACK20 at checkout on their website (https://www.naak.com/) to get 20% off your purchase.Rabbit - use code Singletrack10 at checkout on their website (https://www.runinrabbit.com/) to get 10% off your next order.Pillar Performance - use code Singletrack15 at checkout on their website (https://pillarperformance.shop/) to get 15% off your next order.deltaG Ketones - use code Singletrack20 at checkout on their website (https://www.deltagketones.com/SINGLETRACK20) to get 20% off your next order. Additional Links:Warren's Website, Outside FeatureSupport the Show.

Reintegrating DEI: Beyond the Culture Wars [PREVIEW[

Everyone Is Right

Watch the full discussion here: https://integrallife.com/reintegrating-dei/ What does DEI look like if we remove the politically loaded terms and ideas and focus on a developmental understanding instead? What might we see if we ourselves can take a broader and deeper view into this divisive and important cultural moment that is reshaping our world? A postmodern view, one that has moved beyond the strict confines of rationality, is what has brought awareness of many of DEI's principles and claims to the foreground of our culture. This developmental perspective can see things that pervious perspectives were blind to, and at its best, DEI shows us a world in which cultural assumptions, the social construction of the self, and the limitations of rationality and science can create powerfully unseen bias against certain groups. What does this look like, from the mature DEI viewpoint? What can it really see, what are its own hidden assumptions, and why is it causing so much societal friction that is overheating everything from school board meetings to national politics? In Europe, we are seeing the rise of the far right. In America, we see Trumpism fighting to turn back the clock on many of DEI's policies. And many in the middle have seen even the best-meaning DEI initiatives produce frustrating unintended and hypocritical consequences, such as illiberalism, exclusivity in their demands for inclusivity, homogeneity in their call for heterogeneity, and intolerance in their desire for tolerance. A robust and thorough understanding of the primary worldviews at play can help us to better appreciate what's really being seen, how each stage is showing us important truths even as they create their own problems that need solving. In this talk, Keith Martin-Smith explains the developmental levels in detail that allowed DEI to form in the first place, as well as the levels from which DEI is often expressed (and resisted) from, allowing us to more clearly see and understand the cultural wars we are all experiencing. The goal of this talk is to bring greater understanding and empathy for those advocating the DEI view, as well as for those fighting against it, all framed by a broader and deeper understanding of the evolution of our personal and cultural worldviews and how they interact with each other.

In this episode I am joined by Charles Manson, author of ‘The Second Karmapa Karma Pakshi' published by Shambhala, and librarian for the Tibetan Collections at the Bodleian Library (Oxford University) and the British Library. Charles begins by discussing the remarkable life of Karma Pakshi, the second Karmapa, Tibet's oldest continuous reincarnation lineage. Charles traces Karma Pakshi's adventures as a yogic trainee, personal guru to Mongol Khans, figure of political intrigue, and reformer of monasteries. Charles goes on to tell the story of his own life, from brutal treatment at elite British boarding schools to undergraduate studies at the renowned Columbia University. Charles recounts how arrest and deportation saw his academic prospects dashed. After a period of homelessness, he became a master woodcarver training under craftsmen in England and Germany. Charles recalls his encounter with Buddhism, his contact with spiritual teachers such as the 16th Karmapa, his reckoning with the untimely death of his son's mother, and details his experiences undertaking 8 years of closed retreat including challenging group dynamics, the painful complications of energetic yogas, and the mechanisms of spiritual transformation. In this episode, Susan and Erica discuss the many ways the thorax can be the driver for a multitude of upper and lower extremity issues.  This important region of the body tends to cause a lot of movement dysfunction we often see.  As an example, the thorax is an important component in driving foot pain as well as issues in the pelvic girdle.  Suppose you can get the thorax to move differently. In that case, this can help people down-train old movement patterns that do not serve them and ultimately restore global movement patterning across many tasks.  Key point: The thorax can be a key driver, in how someone transfers load after an injury (no matter when that injury took place). It is a region of the body that compensates for pain and dysfunction elsewhere and then ends up being the driver years later. Don't miss it.   A glance at this episode: [3:26] Thoracic mobility and breath control for pain relief [11:19] Breathing and muscle release techniques for thoracic spine mobility [14:26] Using sensory input with a theraband for thoracic mobility [19:19] Using closed kinetic chain exercises for thoracic mobility and abdominal strength [23:49] Assessing and treating shoulder injuries [29:23] Thoracic mobility and its impact on movement patterns [34:20] Thoracic rotation and breathing exercises for runners [43:05] Reintegrating movement patterns for whole-body wellness [47:42] Exercise and posture for older adults [52:12] Posture and movement for homeschooling and virtual work   Related links: Tough To Treat Website Erica's Course: Decoding the Complex Patient Susan's Pelvic Health Education Subscription Access the Transcript

Host: Michal Charles aka MMC13 Guest: Nicolas Morales Five Things To Know Before You Get Sober This book describes five elements of recovery that have been learned through experience. It explains raw realities that may not be covered in counseling, therapy, or treatment facilities. It allows the reader to see into these elements and prepare for them so the path to recovery may be accomplished with less roadblocks. It can also be used as a tool for individuals who are dancing around the idea of recovery. Through lived experience of addiction to opiates and alcohol, these five elements were the most shocking, rough, and problematic to a successful recovery. Addiction has no concern for the individual it plagues. The battle against it is unique to each person. These elements are generic in nature with the hope the reader will apply the topics to their own struggles.   Nico Morales: Transforming Lives Through Resilience and Purpose Born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Nico Morales embodies the spirit of the Duke City. As a third-generation resident, he takes immense pride in his roots and the vibrant community that shaped him. Nico's journey is a testament to the power of resilience and personal growth, as he overcame significant challenges to emerge as an author, graduate, and successful business owner. Nico's upbringing was influenced by his parents, who instilled in him the values of hard work and compassion. His father, a skilled technician in the technology sector, and his angelic mother, who dedicated herself to social work, provided Nico with a solid foundation. Despite their best efforts, Nico faced early hardships that left lasting imprints on his worldview. Throughout his childhood, Nico grappled with feelings of abandonment and rejection. These emotions were compounded by traumatic experiences, leading him to develop a skewed perspective on family and belonging. By the age of fourteen, Nico believed he was capable of living independently and contemplated dropping out of school to join the workforce. It was his mother's guidance and the prospect of pursuing his passion for wrestling that redirected his path back to education. Understanding the importance of financial independence, Nico devised alternative ways to earn money during the school year. Initially selling single prime times (loose cigarettes), he later transitioned into the cannabis trade. In his junior year of high school, Nico recognized the lucrative potential in the emerging market of prescription pills. However, his involvement took a dangerous turn when he succumbed to the temptations of substance abuse. Dependent on OxyContin, Nico faced a critical crossroad when the availability of the drug diminished. Faced with limited options, he turned to heroin as a means of escape. By the time he reached his twenties, Nico found himself living in his truck, ensnared in a cycle of desperation. It was this distress that ultimately compelled him to break free from opioid addiction, although he did so without seeking professional help to address the underlying issues. Reintegrating into his family's support system, Nico sought solace in excessive alcohol consumption, which strained relationships and led to his eventual expulsion from their homes. This rejection only amplified his feelings of isolation. Rock bottom arrived when Nico found himself living in a dilapidated building, broken physically, mentally, and spiritually. Despite the challenges, he recognized a higher purpose and chose to embark on a spiritual journey of healing. Through introspection and self-study, Nico gained valuable insights into his thoughts, emotions, and actions. This newfound awareness led to transformative changes in his life and propelled him toward serving others on their own paths of self-discovery. Fueling his purpose, Nico authored the book "Five Things to Know Before You Get Sober," sharing his experiences and providing guidance to those seeking a similar path of personal growth. Driven by his commitment to serve others, Nico pursued higher education with unwavering determination. He earned a bachelor's degree with honors, solidifying his academic achievements. Today, Nico is the proud founder of No Halo, a personal and professional development services company. The name reflects his belief that nobody is born an angel, but everyone has the capacity to improve themselves each day. Nico Morales stands as a living testament to the power of resilience, determination, and personal growth. His life experiences have shaped his mission to inspire others to discover their purpose, navigate life's challenges, and embrace imperfections. Through his work, Nico embodies the transformative journey from adversity to empowerment, reminding us all that it is never too late to change our lives for the better. This week we welcome Christina Carlson, an embodiment and energetic coach, speaker, teacher, and the host of the podcast, “Bitches, Witches & Queers." Christina and I talk about her experience of being raised as an Evangelical Fundamentalist Christian, leaving the church, and how dance helped free not only her body but her mind.  Eventually, Christina discovers another church, and falls in love, but over time signals in her body help her to recognize that the church environment is not for her. We also talk about how this paved the way for what she currently does, working as an embodiment and energetic coach, and the ways she employs practical spirituality in all that she does especially her work.  Christina ends this incredible conversation with an exercise that eases us into the practice of observing ourselves and staying inside our bodies.
