Greetings, book friends! It's your (self-proclaimed) favorite book-obsessed sisters here, back with another recap of our February reading adventures. This month brought a whole slew of emotions, from "ew, romance" to "ooh, romance," with plenty of laughs and questionable life choices along the way.The Seven Year Slip: A Feel-Good Romance to Cure Your CynicismWe kicked off February with a bang, diving headfirst into The Seven Year Slip by Ashley Poston. This book was a serious contender for top book of the year, and it's only February! The story follows Clementine as she navigates love, loss, and a magical apartment that connects her with a charming stranger from the past. Trust us, this book is the definition of a feel-good romance, and it might even make you believe in love again (no matter how cynical you are).Dramione Fanfiction: Who Needs Plot When You Have Filth? But February wasn't all sunshine and roses. We also tackled some seriously spicy Dramione fanfiction, because who needs plot when you have that much filth? We're talking daydream lockets, erotic hallucinations, and enough possessiveness to make us question our sanity (and our standards). And let's not forget Ron Weasley, who once again proved that he's the ultimate "dickwad" (sorry, Rupert Grint). The Twisted Ones: A Mild Thriller with a Side of HumorOf course, no month would be complete without a featured read, and this time around, it was The Twisted Ones by T. Kingfisher. Now, we love T. Kingfisher, but we have to admit, this one didn't quite live up to the hype. We were promised horror, but all we got was a mild thriller with a few creepy moments and a whole lot of humor. Don't get us wrong, the book had its moments, but we weren't exactly quaking in our boots.A Month of Bookish AdventuresTune in to hear about the other books we tackled this month; Fae shadow daddies, assassins, talking fetuses? You don't want to miss the books we have lined up! So, there you have it, folks. Another month of reading, laughing, and questioning our taste in books (and men). We'll be back in 2 weeks with more bookish banter, but in the meantime, keep those pages turning and don't forget to follow us on Instagram @MySistersTBR! October Reads and a Deep Dive into "The Pumpkin Spice Cafe"Hey bookworms, it's Stacey and Rebecca from My Sister's TBR, back again with another episode recap! We've got a stack of October reads to chat about, some unexpected gems, and a few new favorites. But the highlight of today's episode is definitely our deep dive into our featured read, "The Pumpkin Spice Cafe" by Laurie Gilmore. This book was promised to be the perfect blend of cozy and heartwarming, with just a dash of mystery thrown in for good measure. We'll be discussing everything from the characters we loved (and maybe a few we didn't!), to the twists and turns that kept us guessing until the very end. Our October ReadsWe had a pretty good reading month, with Stacey finishing an impressive (for her) eight books! Christina Lauren's "Something Wilder" provided an adventurous escape, while Jennifer Hartman's "Lotus" offered a dark romance with a surprisingly sweet male lead. Rebecca finally broke out of her reading rut, thanks to a captivating Hermione and Draco fanfiction recommendation from Stacey. "Sex and Occlumency" offered a delicious dose of Dramione romance, proving that Draco Malfoy is the exception to every rule. But the reading fun didn't stop there! Stacey also finished "Breath, Mints, and Battle Scars," another Dramione fanfiction that she rated 4.5 stars. This one had her hooked from beginning to end, and she can't wait to share all the juicy details with you. And of course, we can't forget about Sarah J. Maas! Stacey also finished "House of Sky and Breath," the second book in the Crescent City series, and she's officially obsessed. This series has her in a chokehold, and she can't wait for you to read it so you can freak out over the ending together. Featured Read: "The Pumpkin Spice Cafe"Our featured read for October was "The Pumpkin Spice Cafe" by Laurie Gilmore. This contemporary romance follows Jeannie, a city girl who inherits her aunt's beloved Pumpkin Spice Cafe in the small town of Dream Harbor. We both rated it a 3, and we're on the same wavelength with this one. The insta-love gave us the ick, and the mystery side of it was a bit unbelievable. We didn't really connect with the characters, and the plot felt a little too predictable. Looking AheadWe're excited to announce that November is Harry Potter Fanfiction Month! In the spirit of "Manacled" getting published as "Alchemist," we've chosen another fanfiction that's also getting published: "The Auction" by LovesBitca8. This is another dark one, and we've got high hopes for it. Join the ConversationThat's all for today's episode recap. We hope you enjoyed this glimpse into our October reads and our discussion on "The Pumpkin Spice Cafe." Don't forget to tune in to the full episode for more bookish banter and laughs. Let's just say the movie took some interesting liberties with the story... (If you've read it, you know what we mean!)Looking Ahead to June...June promises to be just as busy, but we're determined to carve out even more reading time. Stay tuned for our next Featured Read pick and for more reviews and recommendations! What have you been reading this month? Any favorites you'd recommend? May Madness: Book Slumps, Screen Adaptations, & Our TBR ExplosionsHey bookworms! Welcome back to the My Sister's TBR. This month is a whirlwind of bookish excitement, from book-to-screen announcements to a teetering TBR pile that's threatening to topple over. So grab your favorite drink, settle in, and let's dive into the May madness!Stacey's Reading Rollercoaster
From Dukes to Daddies: A Steamy April Wrap-Up with My Sister's TBRWelcome back, bookworms, to another episode recap from My Sister's TBR! This month, we ventured beyond our comfort zones and dove headfirst into some sci-fi and (our usual) seriously steamy reads. Buckle up because we're about to spill all the tea on the age gaps, aliens, and swoon-worthy moments that filled our April TBRs.Stacey Takes a Sci-Fi Detour:First up, we have resident romantasy lover Stacey surprisingly diving into the world of sci-fi. "All Systems Red" by Martha Wells, a novella about a grumpy murderbot with a heart of gold, piqued her interest. Let's just say, robots with existential angst aren't what we expected from Stacey, but it sounds like a fun and unexpected read!Balancing Spice with Sweetness:Next, Stacey took a sharp turn into the world of graphic novels with "Crave" by Marie Llovet. This one promises a blend of dark academia and forbidden desire – not exactly light bedtime reading! Balancing the heat, Stacey also dove into some swoon-worthy romances, "Not Another Love Song" by Julie Soto , "The Things We Leave Unfinished" by Rebecca Yarros, and “The Stand-in” by Lily Chu”. She also tackled the horror book club book “The Final Girl Support Group” by Grady Hendrix Sounds like a month full of emotional rollercoasters for Stacey!Rebecca Sticks to the Familiar:Meanwhile, your girl Rebecca stayed firmly rooted in the world of romance. "Girl Abroad" by Elle Kennedy, a classic enemies-to-lovers trope, delivered the witty banter and steamy encounters she craves. Then, there was "Older" by Jennifer Hartmann, which tackled the age-gap romance trope. We'll delve deeper into this one in a bit, but let's just say it delivered on the emotional connection and earned its positive reviews. And lets not forget the taboo “Your Dad Will Do” by Katee Robert! This one had us seriously questioning our morals. The Duke Takes Center Stage:Now, the moment you've all been waiting for – our Featured Read of the Month, "The Duke and I" by Julia Quinn! This Bridgerton phenomenon had us swooning, giggling, and maybe even a little frustrated (looking at you, Daphne!). We dissect the comparisons to the Netflix show, what worked for us, and what fell a little flat.Spoiler Alert: We loved the banter between Daphne and Simon (seriously, some top-notch dialogue!), and the slow-burn romance had us cheering for their happily ever after. However, some plot points felt a bit rushed, and certain aspects haven't aged as gracefully as we'd hoped. Overall, it's a fun read that perfectly captures the essence of a Regency romance, but don't expect a flawless masterpiece.Looking Ahead: Dear John by Nicholas Sparks:Prepare the tissues, folks! Our next Featured Read will be the ever-popular "Dear John" by Nicholas Sparks. We're ready to dissect the emotional rollercoaster, epic love story, and inevitable heartbreak Nicholas Sparks is famous for. So, grab your copy, settle in with a box of tissues, and get ready for a deep dive into this classic tearjerker.Join the Conversation! As always, we want to hear from you!
