Who's the Perfect Son in this story? The post WH40k Book Club Episode #148 – Fulgrim: The Perfect Son by Jude Reid appeared first on WH40K Book Club.
Pontius Pilate knew Jesus was innocent, yet he chose to placate the people rather than release Him. But the courage he lacked, you can show today. Notes: Focus verses - John 18, 19 By definition, a coward is someone who lacks the courage to face difficult or painful things. Pontius Pilate saw an angry crowd that threatened his position. He was more afraid of the consequences than he was of God. #1 The Prefect Meets the PerfectJohn 18:28-38 Jesus, the PERFECT Son of God stands before Pontius Pilate, the Roman appointed PREFECT Governor of Judea. Prefect Governor means he was a military focused governor. The religious leaders knew exactly what they were doing when they brought Jesus to Pilate. The man known for using power harshly becomes hesitant and weak when confronted by Jesus. “What is truth?” Jesus was the incarnation of truth. Read verse 37.Jesus came to bring truth. Truth divides. Like Pilate, we all must make a decision regarding Jesus. Neutrality is not an option. Pilate attempts to appeal to the crowd logically, in an attempt to get Jesus released. #2 Pilate BlinksJohn 18:39-19:6 Just like Neville Chamberlain blinked in the face of tyranny, Pilate blinks in the face of Truth. He knows Jesus is innocent. But instead of releasing Jesus, he tries to placate the people. Pilate offers the crowd a choice: Jesus or Barabbas. No better picture of the gospel than this right here. The cross Barabbas was to die on was already constructed, the arrangements were made, and he had hours left to live. Barabbas was guilty, but Jesus was innocent. This is what Jesus has done for us.We’ve committed a crime by violating God’s commands, we’re guilty, and the penalty is death. But God made a way for us to be delivered out of death, out of our guilt, and that’s what Jesus ultimately did on the cross. 2 Corinthians 5:21 Jesus took Barabbas’ place on that cross. The crowd chooses Barabbas. Pilate didn’t need any Passover custom to release an innocent man, he just needed to do what was right. When the crowd decided against Jesus, he thought he might have one more trick up his sleeve. He released Barabbas, and scourged Jesus in hopes it'd satisfy the angry crowd. Pilate brought Jesus out one final time. He thought that if he give the crowd a little bit of what they want they’ll be happy, they’ll change their minds, they’ll reverse course.Pilate blinked. He thought he could use diplomacy and compromise to get himself out of a difficult position. Compromise doesn’t calm the mob, it fuels it. Compromise is part of life. But when it comes to THE Truth, when it comes to Christ, compromise should not be part of the equation. To compromise on who Jesus is, is to invent another Jesus. Only the real Jesus saves. Pilate’s appeasement of the crowd is not just a political failure—it’s a picture of what happens when leaders, Christians, and even churches try to compromise truth to satisfy the demands of culture. If you play both sides, offering a little truth, softened by a lot of concession and mix in some human empathy, and you end up with the crucifixion. A complete and utter rejection of everything Jesus is and was. We cannot untether EMPATHY from TRUTH. Just because someone feels a certain way does not mean we abandon truth. As Christians we are called to offer COMPASSION not COMPROMISE. Let’s bring this message to a close now. Read John 19:12–16 #3 Pilate judged the Judge. Pilate crucifies Him.The fear of man outweighed the fear of God. Jesus threatened to disrupt Pilate’s cushy role, and so he gave in to peer pressure and he judged the Judge. In Revelation 20 at the Great White Throne judgement, the judged will face the Judge. Pilate symbolically washed his hands of Jesus. But you cannot wash yourself of your sins. You either receive Him or reject Him. “You are either for me or against me.” Have you trusted Jesus as Savior and made Him the Lord of your life? The courage that Pilate lacked, you can show today. Jesus said "Everyone who acknowledges me publicly here on earth, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven" (Matthew 10:32 NLT) We are just like Barabbas.Guilty and headed for judgement. But Jesus came in, not accidentally, but intentionally and took that punishment we deserved and He died on a cross for our sin. Like those soldiers around Jack Lucas, he dove on those grenades and absorbed their destruction, that’s what Jesus did for us!He absorbed God’s righteous judgement and drank the cup of His wrath that was going to be poured out on us because of our spiritual rebellion against God. --- Learn more about Greg Laurie and Harvest Ministries at harvest.org. Some tasks are restricted from you because of a lack of ability. Other tasks are restricted from you because of a lack of qualification or authority. The pride of sin produces the lie that your own efforts can achieve righteousness. The arrogance of sin can convince you that you do not need Jesus. However, the testimony of scripture is that you can never achieve righteousness before God through your own efforts. Salvation comes only through the work of God. Jesus is the perfect high priest who, through His life, death, and resurrection provides forgiveness of sin and access to God to all who believe in faith. Hebrews 7 teaches three ways that Jesus, as the perfect son of God, provides for salvation.
Godward The Wilderness Steps: Spiritual Wisdom and Understanding by Larry D. McClureIn the beginning, God in mind moved with energy and intelligence and idealized the perfect form that would embody His very essence and Divine Image - the Perfect-Son idea. As the thought-form of the Perfect-Son takes on consciousness it becomes "Spirit-man" with its own feelings, emotions and free-will. As Spirit-man's thoughts became selfish it sought to express itself away from the Creator and entered the earth plane where it became entangled in materialism. Its consciousness now more "earthy" than "heavenly," and its thoughts dualistic, believing in both good and evil (The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil).Spirit-man is now the "Natural-man," a living being (Adam) and subject to all the physical laws. Living in the earth plane away from his Maker, Natural-man's mind becomes depraved, his actions perverted and unnatural. If Natural-man is not spiritually reborn he will forever be lost in a world of wandering and uncertainty (darkness).Godward The Prodigal Steps recounts the fall of Spirit-man and his struggle to understand his physical experience. The Prodigal Steps have returned him to the "Birth-Line" and now he must complete The Wilderness Steps; be spiritually reborn and continue his journey Godward.Larry D. McClure's profound exploration of Spirituality continues to captivate readers with his timeless wisdom and transformative insights. His works offer a deep dive into biblical narratives, metaphysical principles, and the human journey, providing readers with a roadmap for personal growth and spiritual enlightenment. Drawing upon 40 years of dedicated research and study, Mr. McClure embarks on a journey through the mysteries of existence. From genesis of the universe to the depths of the human soul his books offer a comprehensive exploration of timeless truths that transcend religious boundaries and cultural divides."We are all Prodigals; Everyone goes to the pigpen," remarks Mr. McClure, encapsulating the universal journey of human existence. His words resonate deeply with readers, offering hope and guidance in a world filled with suffering and despair.https://www.amazon.com/Godward-Wilderness-Steps-Spiritual-Understanding/dp/B0D9556RB2/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&dib_tag=se&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.eEXlBHPteQT-hXce7qxju6at3sNgIBMu6AHyR7rB3IWnlFpsu6Js8GtPz4hcro5VFAeXemglo96hln-rInLLnuRj8YN3hZeg2KUhterrUm3nODXiUSAL3zzINlJHzFe7VlC-k4nQ_JkgVADrW8RC09ozpPhB0iRVK_qZI_I791E2o6rPXBxhcfcZ3nSMluZPdkaowhlR2eyzF2HOikuED7l7UQYSzC8XSdB5Bt86TR_VPxSQpk-bG-OvQ2Y8nqF3KCyGh6SoEuE25Pu-RxYtRRXi_8ZakKZ50QMAj2jhl7s.j1GGg5yiQ3tnZgUjCSwP4svXpthkYpJ5PxNKLcMu6tk&qid=1733313482&sr=8-1http://www.godwardtheprodigalsteps.com http://www.KingPagesPress.comhttp://www.bluefunkbroadcasting.com/root/twia/121224ldmkpp.mp3
In Mark 1:9-13, we see Jesus presented as the perfect Son and Savior: In His Baptism, Jesus is affirmed by the Spirit and the Father to be the beloved Son of God In His Temptation, Jesus proves that He is sinless by triumphing over Satan in the wilderness
The parable of the prodigal son is about a perfect Father with both a rebellious and a self-righteous son. The perfect Son is not in the story—He is telling the story. And Jesus is writing our story too—reminding us that our worth to the Father is not found in what we do for Him, but in who we are with Him.

Mark 1:1–13 rapidly introduces the ministry of Jesus, as introduced by John the Baptist. While other Gospels include many details, the Gospel of Mark briefly sets the stage for Jesus' baptism by John.

I've heard it been said - God cares more about your holiness than your happiness. Which leads us to believe - God is not interested in our happiness at all. And I think that idea is completely contrary to Scripture. I'm gonna be honest - it breaks my heart when I ask the question "Are Christians supposed to be happy" and people resound with a confident "NO!" Did you know that "Blessed" in the Bible (in both Hebrew and Greek) means "happy"? So, are Christians supposed to be blessed? YES! And that's what I think the problem is. We know with our head that we ARE blessed, even if we don't always feel happy. But when we FEEL happy, it's because we are REMEMBERING how very blessed we are! Want to be happier? Why wouldn't we??? Well, in this week's podcast, I share the 3 times we are happy, what happiness really is (the 3 P's), and my answer to my mother's question, "April, are you happy?" EEK. Moms have a way of cutting straight to the heart, right? I think God created us to crave happiness for 2 reasons - When we're unhappy, it can be a powerful signal to seek God and ask why. "Delight thyself in the Lord, and He shall give thee the desires of your heart." I think our happiness, our contentment regardless of the circumstance is such a profound witness to non-believers that God is GOOD, God is LOVE, and God's WAYS are health, and truth, and life - in a very real, very practical way. "Godliness with contentment is great gain." So, maybe our holiness and our happiness really cannot be separated from each other? I mean, holiness WITHOUT happiness? What does that even look like? My guess is - the Pharisees of Jesus' day, who were always criticizing the Perfect Son of God for having too much fun on the Sabbath! Just some thoughts to think on this week! Jeffrey Pyne 22, was a star athlete, high school valedictorian and University of Michigan biology student. He was all set for a career in medicine when his mother, Ruth, developed bipolar disorder and Jeffrey began to get concerned for the safety of his behaving violently and erratically. She became hyper-religious, and Jeffrey became. concerned about the safety of his sister Julia, 12, who was being home schooled. Ruth spent time in jail for assaulting Jeffrey in 2010, but charges were dropped when she promised to stay on her medication. On May 27, 2011, Ruth Pyne, 51, was beaten and stabbed to death in the family garage. Jeffrey and his father, Bernie, believed she was attacked by an intruder. Prosecutors argued that Jeffrey killed her in a fit of rage after years of tension and pressure. In her testimony, Jeffrey's girlfriend Holly Freeman said Jeffrey was very emotional about his mother, and shortly after the crime, his hands were bandaged and blistered, which he claimed came from lifting pallets at his job on a local farm. In January 2013, Jeffrey Pyne was found guilty of second degree murder andsentenced to twenty to sixty years in the Michigan Department of Corrections. His father and sister continue to protest his innocence.

Title: The Perfect Son Preacher: Mark Dever Series: Who is God's Son? Passage: Hebrews 7:11-28
THE PERFECT SON // Isaiah 9:6-7 Buky explains how this passage from Isaiah, written 800 years before Jesus was born speaks so accurately of Him and simultaneously speaks directly into our lives today.
Love, Loss, and the Power of Music to Heal in Kathleen Basi's “A Song for the Road” In this episode, guest hosted by author Christine Arvidson, we visit with Kathleen Basi, author of “A Song for the Road,” a poignant journey of grief, love, and acceptance. Miriam Tedesco is still grieving the loss of her husband and twin teenagers one year ago. Brian Blackwell was described as a great student with brains, doting parents, and a sense of entitlement. When he wanted a better life for himself, he only needed to do a few things. All of these things would require lies to make his fantasy become his reality. It was just a few little white lies to impress his girlfriend. Not a big deal, after all, no one ever died from those types of lies... no one until July 2004. On the 2nd day of the 12 Nightmares Before Christmas series, Cam and Jen discuss 18-year-old Brian Blackwell.https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZQk-oAsjZNG18y8bX24c6wTheme music, sound, and editing by the talented Nico Vitesse. Jesus lived a perfectly intentional life. In this last episode, we’ll look to the Perfect Son as our blueprint for what it means to live a perfectly intentional life. What we can learn from Jesus: • Jesus’ perfect example of hope, forgiveness and obedience • Jesus saw the potential of all people • Jesus refused favoritism • Jesus loved freely • Jesus had tenacity • Jesus lived a life of patience and prayer What we talked about in this episode: Salvation Scriptures: http://urlme.cc/3Jx7 Salvation Prayer: http://urlme.cc/BPxY For more from Kristi, check out her site: https://www.kristiwoods.net
In this sermon: The Perfect Son of Man (1 Timothy 1:15), we look at the amazing gospel-laced revelation of why God the Son came to earth in the flesh. We will look into the Scriptures to see that Jesus has two complete natures: one fully human and one fully divine. This is known, in theological circles, as the hypostatic union of Christ and teaches that these two natures are united in one person; the God-man. Jesus is not two persons. He is one person. The hypostatic union is the joining (mysterious though it be) of the divine and the human in the one person of Jesus. Why are we to bother with this fancy term? At the end of the day, the term itself it not essential, but the concept behind the term is infinitely precious and worshipfully mind-blowing. Let us exalt His name together as we behold this wondrous mystery.

Lauren North writes psychological suspense novels that delve into the darker side of relationships and families. She has a lifelong passion for writing, reading, and all things books. Lauren's love of psychological suspense has grown since childhood and her dark imagination of always wondering what's the worst thing that could happen in every situation. Lauren studied psychology before moving to London where she lived and worked for many years. She now lives with her family in the Suffolk countryside. Readers can follow Lauren on Twitter @Lauren_C_North and Facebook @LaurenNorthAuthorFor almost thirty years, Desmond P. Ryan began every day of his working life with either a victim waiting in a hospital emergency room, or a call to a street corner or a blood-soaked room where someone had been left for dead. Murder, assaults on a level that defied humanity, sexual violations intended to demean, shame, and haunt the individuals who were no more than objects to the offenders: all in a day's work. It was exhilarating, exhausting, and often heartbreaking. As a Detective with the Toronto Police Service, Desmond P. Ryan wrote thousands of reports detailing the people, places, and events that led up to the moment he came along. He investigated the crimes and wrote synopses for guilty pleas detailing the circumstances that brought the accused individuals before the Courts. He also wrote a number of files to have individuals deemed either Not Criminally Responsible due to mental incapacity, or Dangerous Offenders to be held in custody indefinitely. Now, as a retired investigator with three decades of research opportunities under his belt, Desmond P. Ryan writes crime fiction. Real Detective. Real Crime. Fiction.

Genesis 31 is a parallel of the larger Exodus story to come. It is also a tale of a family at odds. Ultimately, our hope is not in Laban, Jacob, Rachel, or Leah, but the only perfect Father and Son. In them, we find the only perfect model that should shape our own families and relationships.

Edmund BrooksIts seems a little backwards that "Good Friday", a day of absolutely pain and torture, is seen as such a blessing. In reality, it was Earth's saddest day, but it marked the start of our salvation, which is why we take time to witness Christ's Passion. However, this gift came at a tremendous cost, one of which caused pain physically, emotionally, and spiritually, that only the Perfect Son could pay.

With literary genius, the author of Hebrews is succinctly stating his conclusions based on material he has already expounded at length even while he is introducing concepts he will develop as the letter/sermon unfolds. Comparing priests of respective orders: Levitical/Aaronic vs. Melchizedekian, our author summarizes with contrasts in verse 28. Law -vs.- Word of the oath, Appointed men -vs.- appointed Son, and weakness -vs.- eternal perfection. Thus by deduction we understand Christ, the ultimate High Priest, in these terms as the Perfect Son by Oath. Verses 26-28 are framed by related and important adjectives: 'fitting' and 'perfect'. FITTING speaks to an arrival point of significance evident by conspicuous “towering up” standing out, eminent, seemly circumstances. Meanwhile, PERFECT means consummate, reaching end stage, working through entire process, final phase, conclusion, accomplish, fulfill, complete, consecrate... to raise to the state befitting of Him. This concept of 'perfection' is thematic in Hebrews. At least 9 of the 23 Biblical mentions of the word appear in this book including other mentions of 'fitting' as well (2:10, 5:9, 7:11,19)
