On the latest episode of The Tactical Leader Podcast, Jack Carr, former Navy SEAL, best-selling author, and host of the Danger Close podcast, shared his incredible journey from military service to becoming a top-tier author in the world of thrillers. Carr's reflections highlight the value of building upon a foundation established by previous generations of authors while adapting to today's constantly evolving media landscape.Jack Carr is a former Navy SEAL who served for 20 years, transitioning from military operations to becoming a successful author and podcast host. His military experience, particularly in tactical operations and leadership, deeply informs his writing, lending authenticity to his thrillers. Carr's time in the Navy SEALs laid the foundation for his post-service career, where he draws on his battlefield experiences to create compelling, action-packed stories. His journey from elite military service to top-tier author showcases his adaptability and commitment to excellence across different fields.Building on the Legacy of Great AuthorsCarr emphasized how crucial it has been for him to recognize and build upon the literary foundations laid by iconic thriller authors. "I'm not just regurgitating things—I'm building off the foundation that's been built by all these other authors," he explained. He cited classic stories like *The Most Dangerous Game* and *Rogue Male* as significant inspirations, but it didn't stop there. Carr outlined a timeline of influences, including legendary figures like Ian Fleming, John le Carré, Robert Ludlum, Tom Clancy, David Morrell, and Nelson DeMille.Carr acknowledges that the works of these authors have allowed him to forge his own path. "These guys gave me this foundation by writing such amazing books, and I build on that," he said, adding that he's taken lessons from the past and applied them to modern-day storytelling in a way that honors those who came before him.The Importance of Adapting to the Battlefield of MediaOne of Carr's unique insights in the podcast was how the modern publishing environment requires authors to adapt to new challenges, much like a battlefield. "You couldn't have done what I'm doing now back in 1985," he said, reflecting on how digital platforms, podcasts, and social media have revolutionized the way creators can engage with their audience. In Carr's early career, traditional book tours and limited media appearances were the main avenues for engaging with readers. Today, authors like Carr have an abundance of ways to connect with fans, express gratitude, and contribute value, whether through social media interactions or hosting podcasts. “You might just want to write the book, and that's wonderful. But for me, I need to build a readership,” Carr shared, explaining his motivation to create content beyond just writing novels. This approach is more than just business—it's personal. Carr, who has a middle child with severe special needs, shared that the financial responsibility of caring for his family drives his efforts to engage with his audience consistently. "For me, thanking people, being authentic, and adapting to this new environment is just as important as writing the books."From Page to ScreenA particularly exciting moment of the conversation came when Carr recounted the story of how his book The Terminal List was adapted into a major television series. As he was writing the book, Carr imagined Chris Pratt playing the lead role, even though Pratt was then known primarily for comedic work on *Parks and Recreation*. After Pratt's transformation in Zero Dark Thirty, Carr saw him as the perfect actor to embody the main character. It turns out that Carr's intuition was spot on. Through a fortunate series of connections—thanks to a friend, Jared Shaw—Pratt ended up...

In our latest podcast episode entitled "Stages, Screens, & Spokes: Journeys with the Multifaceted Artist," we had the pleasure of interviewing the incredibly talented Katherine King. Katherine is a true polymath, excelling as an actress, playwright, screenwriter, singer-songwriter, and now, an award-winning film director. Here's a recap of our engaging discussion. A Multifaceted Talent Katherine King's artistic journey is nothing short of remarkable. Hailing from Santa Monica, California, Katherine has made significant strides in various creative fields. She has acted in numerous commercials, print ads, and films, including Disney's "Boyster" and feature films like "An Axe to Grind" and "The Downside of Bliss." As a playwright, she has written five full-length plays, four of which were showcased at the Hollywood Fringe Festival. Her short play, "Future Wives," was featured at the Hollywood Short and Sweet Festival. Katherine's directorial debut, "The Delicate Cycle," premiered at the Chandler Film Festival and won Best Short Film. From Page to Stage to Screen Katherine's transition from stage to screen was a natural progression. She shared with us how her background in theater helped shape her approach to filmmaking. "I've always had a strong vision when writing," she explained. "Directing allowed me to bring that vision to life in a new and exciting way." Katherine's first film, "The Delicate Cycle," tells the heartwarming story of a boy and a man who form an unlikely friendship in a laundromat. The film's exploration of human connections and emotional resilience resonated with audiences and critics alike. Crafting Authentic Stories A key theme in our conversation was Katherine's dedication to authenticity in storytelling. She emphasized the importance of listening and observing to create genuine characters. "I'm fascinated by people who are different from me," she said. "This curiosity drives my writing and helps me create characters that feel real." Katherine's keen eye for detail and her ability to capture the nuances of human behavior shine through in her work, making her stories relatable and impactful. The Delicate Cycle: A Labor of Love Katherine's passion for her craft was evident as she discussed the making of "The Delicate Cycle." Filming in a laundromat, a location she passed daily on her bike rides, added a layer of authenticity to the project. Despite the challenges of indie filmmaking, Katherine assembled a talented team and created a film that has earned numerous accolades. The film's success at the Chandler Film Festival and subsequent awards, including Best Comedy Film and Best Original Story, are a testament to her dedication and vision. Looking Ahead: Rickshaw Romance Katherine's creative pursuits don't stop at filmmaking. She gave us a sneak peek into her upcoming reality show, "Rickshaw Romance." The show will feature blind dates taking place on pedicabs, offering a unique and intimate setting for couples to connect. Katherine's experience as a pedicab driver inspired the concept, and she believes it will bring a fresh perspective to the world of dating shows. "It's about bringing people together in real life without the distractions of technology," she explained. Kerine King's journey is a testament to the power of creativity and perseverance. Her ability to excel in multiple artistic disciplines and her commitment to telling authentic stories make her a force to be reckoned with in the entertainment industry. ============= Submit Your Film to Our Film Collective: ifapfilmcollective.com Connect With Floyd Marshall Jr: instagram.com/floydmarshalljr tiktok.com/@floydmarshalljr0 --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/aconversationwithfm/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/aconversationwithfm/support

What made the son of God so likable, so approachable? In short, His heart. There are 89 chapters in the gospels. In them we find Jesus' views on money, marriage, employees, the end of the world and more. But there is only one place where Jesus tells us about His own heart. It's the one place in the Bible where the Son of God pulls back the veil and lets us peer into the core of who He is. Welcome back, friends, to our podcast, Unlocking Your World of Creativity. Today, we're delving into the enchanting realm of epic and dark fantasy novels with a unique blend of tabletop role-playing games and strategy games. Joining us is the talented J. V. Hilliard, the author of the captivating Warminster Saga. Exploring Epic Fantasy Foundations:In our interview with J. V. Hilliard, we uncovered the foundational elements that make a great epic and fantasy novel. Here are the key ingredients discussed:- World Building: Creating a believable and immersive world is crucial. Whether it's Middle Earth, Westeros, or Shannara, building a world grounded in realism with fantastical elements allows readers to escape and believe in the existence of the created realm.Tropes: Themes such as struggle, redemption, forbidden love, and the hero's journey resonate with readers. Incorporating relatable challenges into characters' journeys helps readers connect with the narrative.- *Recognition and Familiarity: Including recognizable elements like the hero's journey, coming-of-age stories, and enemies-to-lovers dynamics provides readers with something to identify with, especially in entirely made-up worlds.Series Structure: Fantasy novels often take the form of series because readers, once invested in a richly built world, want to explore it further. Series allow for a more in-depth exploration of the intricacies of the world and characters.J. V. Hilliard's Warminster SagaWe discussed the inspiration and world-building vision behind J. V. Hilliard's Warminster Saga, a four-part series. Originally envisioned as a standalone book, the success of the first installment led to the decision to expand it into a series. The series, rooted in J. V.'s decades-long experience with Dungeons and Dragons, explores the fantasy world of Warminster.Crafting the StoryJ. V. shared insights into his creative process and how he organizes the myriad elements of his stories. He uses a whiteboard to visualize plot interactions, events, and character developments. His approach blends planning and flexibility, ensuring a detailed and cohesive storyline. From Page to Screen and BeyondExcitingly, J. V. Hilliard has expanded the Warminster Saga into new mediums. He's licensed the intellectual property for an augmented reality video game and a virtual reality version, both set for release in the coming years. Additionally, a graphic novel adaptation is in the works, providing a visual and interactive dimension to the saga.In closing, J. V. Hilliard emphasized the collaborative nature of the writing process, acknowledging the invaluable role of editors, beta readers, and the feedback loop with readers. He encourages aspiring authors to embrace constructive criticism and engage with the writing community. To stay connected with J. V. We're beginning our last series of the year, and it is called“From Page to Person.”Easily, one of the greatest challenges for anyone who is following Christ is the fact that your relationship is based on the pages of scripture instead of physical interactions with a person. This reality is such a factor that it is usually the reason people settle for a lifeless faith that is more ritual and routine than it is a relationship with a living God.If you find yourself going through the motions, checking boxes, and dogmatically living out your faith, this series is for you!ABOUT TWIN RIVERS CHURCHTwinRivers.Church is a life-giving church with three campuses in the St. Louis area and is led by Pastor Joe Dobbins. I sat down with Ishmael, A Russian American to discuss what's going on in Russia and in particular, why don't the Russian people rise up? It was quite interesting and revealing. The episode featured Co-Host Maurice Smith. We made several points on the podcast that is worth mentioning here: 1. Ishmael is a Jewish, Russian American whose Grandparents are from and live in Ukraine today. 2. Russians are against the war but are too poor to do anything about it as they spend their lives trying to survive; many can't even afford a washing machine. 3. All Russian males are automatically drafted into the army. 4. Elites are connected to Putin and would rather sell-off Chelsea FC than speak against or denounce Putin who has helped to grease the pockets of the oligarchs, many of whom are part of the same fraternity. 5. Why replacing Putin doesn't solve the problem of the Ukrainian invasion, as Putin is part of and head of the same fraternity that shares his ideals, Ex- KGB agents wanting the old Russia.... Yet, the expectations on him were great, to become an adult, raise a family while working in an industry requiring basic education, getting base pay. But, through trial and error, raised six successful children, one of whom has written several books and completing academic studies at the highest and most prestigious levels. The cycle would continue, but some slip through the cracks, now working to make it bigger for those coming behind us, until there is nothing to hold us back." Stay tuned to the end of the interview where I'll give you some actionable insights that I learned from my guest. These insights are also in the show notes. As always, thanks for listening.  Now on to my guest for today, Betsy Graziani Fasbinder, an author, writing coach, speaker, and public-speaking trainer.  Betsy started out as a teacher, then became a therapist, and is now a published author and public-speaking trainer. The common thread she sees behind her various forays is storytelling. Whether it's trying to get your kid to do a chore or explaining your company's latest gadget, storytelling needs to be at the core of your communications.  While Betsy's latest book is about public speaking for authors, public speaking did not come naturally to her. In this episode she shares that she actually had a phobia of public speaking and would get physically ill before having to speak. When she started writing and publishing books, she realized she would have to acquire some skills in speaking in order to better promote herself and her work. She shares the skills and strategies she learned in her book From Page to Stage: Inspiration, Tools and Public Speaking Tips for Writers. She shares some of these insights in this episode.  Now, let's get better together. Actionable Insights Creation “is only half the story.” Whether you're an author promoting a book or an entrepreneur selling a product, how you share that creation with the world is critical, and the key to getting people to listen is using story. While some people come more naturally to public speaking than others, a large part of it is a skill that can be learned. And like any skill, it requires practice.  Use empathy to create connections, especially with people who ask challenging questions. Listening first, and showing empathy, are important to maintaining control and creating authentic connections.
