October Reads and a Deep Dive into "The Pumpkin Spice Cafe"Hey bookworms, it's Stacey and Rebecca from My Sister's TBR, back again with another episode recap! We've got a stack of October reads to chat about, some unexpected gems, and a few new favorites. But the highlight of today's episode is definitely our deep dive into our featured read, "The Pumpkin Spice Cafe" by Laurie Gilmore. This book was promised to be the perfect blend of cozy and heartwarming, with just a dash of mystery thrown in for good measure. We'll be discussing everything from the characters we loved (and maybe a few we didn't!), to the twists and turns that kept us guessing until the very end. Our October ReadsWe had a pretty good reading month, with Stacey finishing an impressive (for her) eight books! Christina Lauren's "Something Wilder" provided an adventurous escape, while Jennifer Hartman's "Lotus" offered a dark romance with a surprisingly sweet male lead. Rebecca finally broke out of her reading rut, thanks to a captivating Hermione and Draco fanfiction recommendation from Stacey. "Sex and Occlumency" offered a delicious dose of Dramione romance, proving that Draco Malfoy is the exception to every rule. But the reading fun didn't stop there! Stacey also finished "Breath, Mints, and Battle Scars," another Dramione fanfiction that she rated 4.5 stars. This one had her hooked from beginning to end, and she can't wait to share all the juicy details with you. And of course, we can't forget about Sarah J. Maas! Stacey also finished "House of Sky and Breath," the second book in the Crescent City series, and she's officially obsessed. This series has her in a chokehold, and she can't wait for you to read it so you can freak out over the ending together. Featured Read: "The Pumpkin Spice Cafe"Our featured read for October was "The Pumpkin Spice Cafe" by Laurie Gilmore. This contemporary romance follows Jeannie, a city girl who inherits her aunt's beloved Pumpkin Spice Cafe in the small town of Dream Harbor. We both rated it a 3, and we're on the same wavelength with this one. The insta-love gave us the ick, and the mystery side of it was a bit unbelievable. We didn't really connect with the characters, and the plot felt a little too predictable. Looking AheadWe're excited to announce that November is Harry Potter Fanfiction Month! In the spirit of "Manacled" getting published as "Alchemist," we've chosen another fanfiction that's also getting published: "The Auction" by LovesBitca8. This is another dark one, and we've got high hopes for it. Join the ConversationThat's all for today's episode recap. We hope you enjoyed this glimpse into our October reads and our discussion on "The Pumpkin Spice Cafe." Don't forget to tune in to the full episode for more bookish banter and laughs. Funk, dance, pop, soul, jazz, rock, musical theatre and, with new album My Life Is A Symphony, orchestral arrangements, Kate Ceberano has covered a lot of musical terrain in her 40-year recording career. In this honest and unflinching chat, the singer/songwriter discusses the pop side of her extensive catalogue of work, starting as singer of '80s band I'm Talking and continuing through the roller-coaster ride of her solo career. Commercial triumphs like Brave and Pash are dissected alongside fan favourites like Think About It! and Kensal Road, with Kate recounting behind-the-scenes stories and sharing what each experience has meant to her. From game-changing performances like the Jesus Christ Superstar arena spectacular to the false start of the Globe album, Kate's career is filled with fascinating stories and life lessons. And, of course, fantastic music, with singles like "Bedroom Eyes", "Brave", "See Right Through", "Pash" and "True Romantic" just some of the tracks covered.Bonus material at chartbeats.com.au/aussieTwitter: @ChartBeatsAU, @TurnAroundOnJoyInstagram: @chartbeatsau, @joyturnbeataroundEmail: chartbeats.au@gmail.com

Hello, my guy! You might not know this, but I used to rap a little. And as I was catching up on my audio messages on www.anchor.fm/foxfroth I came across a message from Puff. IG: @420Puffnchick She says she was mad, probably at me, but then she heard this song and wasn't mad anymore, pretty cool. If it worked for her, it might work for you or someone else, who knows? Hearing that message again, it's from when the song was featured on an episode a while back, did make me smile. I mean, I wasn't upset or anything, but I am definitely less upset now, if that makes sense. It did make sense to take a minute and post the song real quick, let it live it's own life a little, just not without Puff because what kind of life is that anyways? Linda and Wings Hauser (Vice Squad) return in this "erotic" thriller about... well we really don't know. In one of the most needlessly confusing movies we've ever covered on the bin. Bedroom Eyes 2 is one of those classic direct-to-video or late-night cable movies that everyone saw at one point in their life but nobody remembers.
It's a boy's book for adventure boys! This week your hosts theoretically cover Treasure Island by Robert Louis "Bedroom Eyes" Stevenson, but not before they manage to botch the author's nationality, the socio-political status of Ireland, and the main character's literal actual name. We're doing our best, guys. Let that both absolve and damn us. Also featuring fun facts about fo'c's'les, apoplexy, and Robert Louis Stevenson's mustache. No spoiler zone this time around, except for the shocking revelation that this book, Treasure Island, does in fact contain treasure.
This week, Richard Glover is joined by Gretel Killeen, Gary Eck and James O'Loghlin as they mine the week for its usual haul of absurdities.

Yeah dude, EPISODE #35 of Random Old Records is finished, fresh off my hard drive to yours, and this one is chock-full of jams! Not only that, but this time around there's no dance pop. Yep, 100% dance pop free! It kicks off with a track from Vancouver's Dead Ghosts, who put out one of the best rock n' roll debut albums I've heard in a long time earlier this year. It sounds like a bunch of degenerate punk kids who grew up on beat-up vinyl copies of early Stones records. A few minutes later, there's a tune from the upcoming second Dum Dum Girls record on Sub Pop, and Dee Dee Dum Dum has morphed into a master of the pop song. "Bedroom Eyes" sounds straight outta 1985, a simpler time when songs that still resembled rock n' roll made it onto pop radio. It sounds like the love song from a classic big-budget 80s flick, and just try to make it through without getting that chorus stuck in your head. It's impossible!Elsewhere, I dig deep into my bank of classic tunes and pull out stuff by Big Star, The Raspberries, Captain Beefheart, Thee Headcoats, and Louis Jordan. Plus, you'll hear a set of original punk rock from The Ramones, Stiff Little Fingers, and The Rezillos, and a sprinkling of newer tracks by Jacuzzi Boys, Bare Wires, Fungi Girls, and Missing Monuments. Hot DAMN! Nestled deep in the playlist, you'll find a track from The Streys, a bunch of kids from the Cleveland suburbs who cranked out a few singles of hammer-dumb 60s garage punk before disappearing forever. It all wraps up with "Since You've Gone" by Spanky And Our Gang, one of the most dazzling displays of psychedelic vocal harmony I've ever heard. All in all, this is one of the best episodes of Random Old Records I've put together in awhile, so go to the normal locations and download it right away! There's lots of loud guitars, simplistic hooks, and plenty of "hell yeah!" moments to be had. It's a perfect soundtrack for jumping around your room for like an hour!Don't forget to SUBSCRIBE to Random Old Records via Apple Podcasts, Google Play, or RSS. If you like the show, please rate it and write a review! You can also go the traditional route and stream or download the new episode below.
