Today I'm talking to Rebecca Robinson, an eating disorder survivor from bulimia, binge eating and general disordered eating behaviours. Rebecca is also a content creator of the Instagram account @bingefreeandbeautiful, where she shares her recovery tips, and she is an advisor for BEAT (The UK's National Association for Eating Disorders). Prior to becoming an advisor, she volunteered for them for several years. Rebecca is also a counsellor in training, wishing to specialise in binge eating and trauma, which I am thrilled to hear about. We absolutely need more therapists in this field. In this episode, Rebecca talks about her struggles with eating disorders, which began around the age of 15 years old, when she hit a challenging time in her personal and family life. These eating issues were exacerbated in the next few years, when she experienced further trauma and PTSD symptoms around the age of 19, and she continued to struggle with eating disorders and disordered eating for around the next 8 years. Thankfully, today, Rebecca is fully recovered and on a journey herself in supporting others. It hasn't always been an easy ride with lots of ups and downs along the way. Rebecca shares about her healing journey, explaining some of the factors that were fundamental to her own recovery process, with essential themes around taking responsibility and finding the tools that work personally for you. Rebecca's journey is inspiring and offers much hope for anyone struggling today. She also graciously shares all about BEAT (the UK's National Association for Eating Disorders), explaining about their support groups, helpline and wonderful resources. I hope that you enjoy the conversation. To find out more about Rebecca: - Instagram: @bingefreeandbeautiful To find out more about BEAT: - https://www.beateatingdisorders.org.uk/

On this week's episode, I have the pleasure of chatting with Rebecca Robinson from Norfolk. After trying for 2.5 years to fall pregnant, she was about to embark on her first IVF round when she found out she was pregnant with her first. She opted for Midwife-Led care at her local NHS trust and initially choose a homebirth. After some growth concerns, she changed for MLU care at her local hospital. She began labour at 41 weeks after 2 sweeps and ended up having a very fast labour at home, resulting in a BBA. Her little boy spent 10 days in the NICU after respirating meconium and when they were discharged, Rebecca speaks candidly about how hard the first 6 months of postpartum were. She breastfed for 2 years and fell pregnant naturally with her second during the pandemic. She found Hypnobirthing Rebirth to be helpful in processing the trauma from her first birth. She opted for an NHS homebirth this time around and she gave birth at home with the help of a midwife just before the second lockdown in October 2020. Artists of all kinds have been hit hard by the pandemic. The theaters, galleries, concert halls and other venues that share their work closed in the spring and at least part of the summer. Many performing arts groups canceled their 2020-21 seasons altogether, while others are going virtual. Yet, the social justice movement that erupted this summer and even the pain caused by the pandemic have provided new opportunities and inspiration for many artists. So podcast host Mason King talked with Julie Goodman, president and CEO of the Arts Council of Indianapolis, about the group's fundraising efforts and grant programs meant to sustain artists and arts groups. Rebecca Robinson, a visual artist and one of the painters on the Black Lives Matter street mural this summer, and Andrew Elliot, a makeup artist and musician, also join the conversation to talk about their personal pandemic experiences. The IBJ Podcast is brought to you by the law firm Krieg DeVault.

California Wine Country continues with its series of repeat podcast episodes featuring women in the wine business, since there is no new show due to continuing Coronavirus coverage on home station KSRO. This episode with Rebecca Robinson from ZAP was originally recorded and aired on January 10, 2018. Rebecca Robinson is today's featured guest on California Wine Country with Steve Jaxon and Dan Berger. Rebecca is the Executive Director of ZAP, Zinfandel Advocates and Producers. ZAP will be holding ZIN EX, the Zinfandel Experience, in San Francisco, January 18-20, 2019, dedicated to Zinfandel. Robert Larsen is also back in the studio today. He spent many years at Robert Strong and now runs The Larsen Projekt. (He was last on California Wine Country in September of last year. Here is a link to the podcast of that show.) Recap of Wines Tasted Today: 2014 Acorn Zinfandel, Heritage Vines, Alegría Vineyards, Russian River Valley. 2015 Robert Biale Vineyards Zinfandel, Black Chicken, Napa Valley. 2015 Ledson Zinfandel, Sonoma Valley Reserve, Estate Ancient Vine. 2015 Armida Zinfandel, Maple Vineyards, Dry Creek Valley, Sonoma County. Today's tastings (click to enlarge). First, Steve asks Dan Berger about his wine column published today in the Press Democrat. Dan tells that it is about the large number of 2017 white wines that will start to appear in the stores over the next two months. They will be very fresh and young but they would benefit from at least another 6 months in the bottle. Read the whole article here. Dan introduces Zinfandel as a natural grape for the United States because it doesn't grow anywhere else. It was a variety that came from Europe around the turn of the previous century. It has a lot of fruit and not a lot of other places grow it. (It is grown in Italy and known by its Italian name, Primitivo.) It has a long growing season and phenomenal flavors. It can make many different styles. Rebecca Robinson's experience in Zinfandel goes back to when she was a student at Sonoma State University. She worked in the wine industry for a while before starting as Executive Director of ZAP about 20 years ago. Rebecca Robinson on ZIN EX She describes the Zinfandel Experience, which they have been producing since 1991. They are at 3 locations this year; Thursday January 18, there is a farm to table dinner at One Market. The next day there is an educational session about growing the grape and making the wine. Then on Friday night there is a winemakers' dinner and auction to support their educational foundation. On Saturday they finish with the grand tasting at Pier 27 on the Embarcadero in San Francisco. Some events are sold out, see the websites prior to the event for all updated information. Rebecca Robinson talks about how they are telling their story of how the California winemaking business has evolved and how they were successful at promoting big tasting events early on. Dan points out that Zinfandel has become one of the most interesting varietals in terms of vineyard designations. Joel Peterson at Ravenswood was a pioneer at this. You don't just look for the brands, you look for the vineyards. Some of the vines are over 100 years old and the flavors are consistent from year to year. He mentions that it can be made into everything from white wine to port, and you will see (and taste) all of those and everything in between at the event. The Flights event on Friday is about carrying Zinfandel into the future. They celebrate the living treasures of the old vineyards, but the young winemakers are in a unique position to carry it forward. Dan discusses Zinfandel as a food wine. They all had lunch today and talked about how they go with food. Lamb goes well with Zinfandel, says Steve. The 2014 Acorn Russian River Zinfandel that they are tasting is a good example. It should be decanted at least, or left in the cellar for several years.
California Wine Country continues with its series of repeat podcast episodes featuring women in the wine business, since there is no new show due to continuing Coronavirus coverage on home station KSRO. This episode with Rebecca Robinson from ZAP was originally recorded and aired on January 10, 2018. Rebecca Robinson is today’s featured guest on California Wine Country with Steve Jaxon and Dan Berger. Welcome to Episode 169 of Broadcast Geeks! On this podcast we discuss all things geek and nerd related, provided our DVR's have space and our Netflix accounts are our own and none others. This week, the Geeks (Jake, Mitch, Chris Baker and Matt Orrin) joined by Jeremy Pysher and Rebecca Robinson, are back in the Quantum Realm to discuss all things geek. The table was full this week with guests and good conversation. We talked Disney+ and also what shows will end up on there, hopefully including Duck Tales which has been releasing episodes every day it seems!! The show is still so good and Jake breaks down the new episodes for us. Disney+ is months away and some of us already have our subscriptions ready. We talked a lot about a Lizzy McGuire reboot, then more about the generational differences of TV shows from our youths. Next, Jake and Mitch were GEEKED out over a new show on HBO, Righteous Gemstones. Anything with John Goodman is worth it, but this has a solid supporting cast. Its about a family of Televangelists that get caught up in a sticky situation. After switching to the return of Titans, we somehow end up on Reality shows, specifically Bachelor of Paradise. Rebecca Robinson gives us her analysis of the show and why its so good. We wrap it up with a breakdown of the Joker film reactions, a film which doesn't come out for a month, or so. Some of us are reluctant to see the movie in the theaters, due to the increasing number of weirdos and incels out there, ready to act on any whim. A theory about how Open Mics are gonna be affected after the movies premieres, makes for an interesting discussion. What are your thoughts on the movie? You can send your feedback and show topic ideas to broadcastgeeks@gmail.com. Follow us on Twitter @broadcastgeeks. Please remember to subscribe, and review us, on iTunes and anywhere else you listen!

Key Links Earl’s book Our Road to Adoption: Softcover & Kindle ---- In particular, two common themes that run parallel throughout this story are patience and trust in God. They faced a lot of waiting, uncertainty, and confusion, Earl and Rebecca needed to trust in God as much as they could. Wow, the results definitely speak for themselves! God blessed them repeatedly with the gift of children, and to this day their decision to stick with adoption despite the difficulties is a great example of just how beautiful adoption can be. In This Episode of ADOPTION NOW Information on working with U.S. adoption agencies while living in the UK. How long it takes to become a long term resident of the UK. I’m Joni Eareckson Tada; welcome to “Heart for the Disabled” week. That’s right. All this week I’ve been mentioning the stories of families with special needs — moms and dads and disabled kids and their siblings, all of them bone-tired, weary people who really, really need the encouragement of Christ. And you are helping me give that encouragement as you’ve written notes, Valentine’s cards, and letters to the people I’ve mentioned each day. For those of you who haven’t yet written, I’ve got a family who really needs an uplifting word. Kelly and Rebecca Robinson came to Family Retreat for the first time last summer. And they came with a car full of oxygen tanks. You see, when their own children grew up, and Kelly and Rebecca became empty-nesters, they adopted two children from an orphanage in China. Claire and Colton both of these have significant disabilities. Claire is 14 years old and has a heart and liver disease, pulmonary hypertension, and needs to be on oxygen 100% of the time. Claire also has some cognitive problems. But she is a happy little girl and she loves to smile. Colton, who is 11 years old, is blind in one eye, has an orthopedic impairment, and a heart defect. Well. Well, I tell you, when this little family came to retreat, Kelly and Rebecca already looked worn out. Claire is fragile, her medical condition was wearing on them – someone has to sleep with her at all times. At Family Retreat, 14-year-old Claire had one prayer – she wanted to make a friend (she doesn’t have friends back home; she’s always in and out of the hospital). But at Family Retreat she was not disappointed. This little teenager made many friends, especially a few girls her own age. And Colton? This guy was the hit at the talent show. His has a great voice. Claire even put together a little band with her new girlfriends and they sang all about Jesus being the light of the world. Not long after retreat, however, Claire had to go into the hospital again. It was a surgery with lots of risks, but it had to be done. She could hardly breathe. Well, a few months ago, Claire was taken into surgery one more time. She did not make it; she went home to be with Jesus. And at Claire’s funeral Colton was brave and sang the song that he did at the Family Retreat talent show. As you can imagine, Kelly and Rebecca are still reeling. This family would very much appreciate a couple of uplifting words in a note or a letter. I know that God can use your words, your favorite scriptures, maybe a favorite hymn or poem. I don’t need to tell you, just let the Holy Spirit tell you what to write. The important thing is, just write and when you do pray for Kelly, Rebecca, and little Colton. I know this special-needs family would appreciate hearing that there are brothers and sisters in Christ who are remembering to lift them up before Jesus Christ. So, please send this family true Christian encouragement. And then mail it off to Joni and Friends, P.O. Box 3333, Agoura Hills, California 91376. If you’ve missed any details, go to my radio page at joniradio.org for the full story where we’re even posted a photo on our Facebook page. Thanks for coming alongside, praying for, writing a letter or note to bless this family who have gone through so much loss, so much expense, and have expended so much care and compassion. God bless you for caring for little Colton and of course for Kelly and Rebecca during this year’s Heart for the Disabled campaign! And if you need any details, get the whole scoop at joniradio.org. Thanks for having a heart for the disabled.
First, News Director Lucy Haggard speaks with Mathias Svalina, who hand-delivers dreams by bike to folks for a month at a time. Svalina used to work at CU and reflected on his time since becoming a dream deliverer. His webpage: http://www.dreamdeliveryservice.com/site-main.html Next, hear a portion of the interview Lucy did with Rebecca Robinson and Stephen E. Strom on their book, "Voices From Bears Ears," about the debate on public lands. The full interview: https://soundcloud.com/radio-1190/rebecca-robinson-stephen-strom-bears-ears Finally, News Correspondent John Boughey talks with Rachel LaHoda from CU's Counseling and Psychiatric Services about the stress of finals, holidays and how students can effectively cope. Originally aired on Radio 1190 KVCU November 14, 2018.
In late 2016, President Barack Obama designated 1.35 million acres of public lands in southeastern Utah as Bears Ears National Monument. On December 4, 2017, President Donald Trump shrank the monument by 85 percent. A land rich in human history and unsurpassed in natural beauty, Bears Ears is at the heart of a national debate over the future of public lands. Through the stories of twenty individuals, and informed by interviews with more than seventy people, Voices from Bears Ears captures the passions of those who fought to protect Bears Ears and those who opposed the monument as a federal "land grab" that threatened to rob them of their economic future. It shares stories of those who celebrate a growing movement by Indigenous peoples to protect ancestral lands and culture, and those who speak devotedly about their Mormon heritage. What unites these individuals is a reverence for a homeland that defines their cultural and spiritual identity, and therein lies hope for finding common ground. Rebecca Robinson is a Portland, Oregon–based writer. Her work has been widely published and she has received numerous awards for her work in print, radio, and online media. Voices from Bears Ears is her first book. Stephen E. Strom received his PhD in astronomy from Harvard University in 1964. Strom's photographic work is held in several permanent collections, including the Center for Creative Photography in Tucson. His most recent book is Bears Ears: Views from a Sacred Land.
Rebecca Robinson and Stephen Strom are the authors of a new book, "Voices from Bears Ears: Seeking Common Ground on Sacred Land." It explores the complex relationship between the people of southeastern Utah and the land that has immense historical and scientific value. News Director Lucy Haggard talked with the two about the project. The book release event on campus is Nov. 8, 6:30 p.m. in Eaton Humanities 150. It's free and open to the public.
