Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk. You'll recognize yourself in these true-life stories from women who are walking their lives while their lives walk them and the lasting difference these journeys have made. I'm your host, Diane Wyzga.Today my guest is Leanne Gordon, founder of the consulting practice Changing Futures and the author of the newly published book, Change Seekers - Making a Difference, and co-author of The Book of Java: Together We Write, who's joining us from Perth, Australia. To her clients Leanne is a change facilitator and coach who guides individuals and teams in making successful change happen in their work and lives, through writing, speaking, coaching and workshops. To me Leanne is a thoughtful, generous listener who intuitively gets to the heart of a problem and gently points you in the direction of a solution as if you discovered it yourself. But there's even more to the story. I've invited Leanne to talk with us about the unexpected changes Life created for her as she changes futures for others, claiming her Page as a writer and author, challenging herself on a long distance trek, and walking her life with guidelines instead of rules. Welcome to the podcast, Leanne! Minutes 40:3400 to 2:48 Intro2:48 to 10:11 Start From Where You AreAustralia is on my hiking bucket list. If I met up with you on one of your favorite walks, what's the first thing I'd notice about you?Leanne welcomes the host to Perth, one of the remotest parts of the earth. The luxury of where Leanne lives is near the Swan RiverWould see Leanne's thoughtfulness, where she goes to get clarity, sorting her many millions of thoughts into orderThis river walk is fairly flat walk with a few hills, take a deep breath, would feel the breath being taken, the thoughts clearing, and the conversation becoming clearer and deeperAnd if we had some time to walk along together what might I get to know about you?Diversity of influences on Leanne's life.Leanne brings a natural curiosity to just about everythingEyes and ears are always open15 years ago readThe Winter of Our Disconnect by Susan MaushartTaking away technology for 6 monthsSince then Leanne learned to let go of her concerns and instead observed, noticed, listened while stepping out for a walkThis profound experience influences Leanne's work and lifeHost created Device Free Zone on weekends for the opportunity to be one with whatever is in the world can be a rare and fleeting thingsAnd when we parted ways what would I remember about you?Leanne's energy and enthusiasm for life which she inherited attitude from fatherAlways been a morning familyThe sound of dad welcoming the morning with “Good Morning, Morning!”Many people reflect back to Leanne her positive outlook on life, optimistic, hopeful, upbeatHost acknowledges Leanne's true gratitude of being aliveNot Pollyanna-ish but truly grateful for the opportunity to be alive and share Life with othersLeanne can hear the voice of the Imposter when it's not happy for the sake of being happyLeanne has a natural ability to see what if, the possibility10:11 to 15:55 A Bit of Back StoryBefore we get to your consulting practice, Changing Futures and your book, I'd like to know a bit about how your love of reading prepared you for your current work. Perhaps you could share a brief time line of young reader to university writer to corporate writer and what you discovered about yourself along the way.Leanne was always been able to find herself in a bookBooks have always held special place in Leanne's lifeGets excited at the concept of a bookRecalls a visit to a relatives' Melbourne farm and diving into a big suitcase of old books, some of which belonged to Leanne's motherThat was the best week of her lifeFrom a young age Leanne declared she would be a writerSenior years of schooling and university changed the style of creative, storytelling narrative style writing to focus on writing papers, thesis, and functional writingLeanne naively thought she would carry academic writing into workplace but found there was no time for anything more than doing, fighting fires, spending time in meetingsEverything sped up exponentially!Leanne continued to read but more business-related and non-fiction which was still engaging and fascinatingLeanne unexpectedly fell into human resources and organizational change instead of accounting and lawLeanne knew she had something to offer hereLoved knowledge, always been a knowledge-seeker while harboring the desire to one day write her own book“That story will go in the book one day!”15:55 to 22:25 Braiding Reading, Vision, Akimbo altMBA and The Book of Java: Together We WriteLet's try to braid together this love of books, love of reading, the vision or intuition that you would one day write something and bring in Seth Godin's Akimbo altMBA which will bring you to the Book of Java: Together We Write. Of all the things you could have chosen to do in your life, why this intensive 4-week program?Leanne followed Seth's writing for a number of yearsLiving in a very remote part of the world, albeit a special placePerth has a strong hold, albeit remoteLeanne has always had an outward looking focusIn pre-Internet world books were the ships that sailed beyond the shore where Leanne livedSeth Godin is a thought-leader, diverse writer, marketing guru, and his work resonated stronglyLeanne felt: I'm not alone! People like us/me think like thisThe Akimbo altMBA was floating past Leanne's radar as a means of further studyMaybe Leanne's Inner Rebel didn't want a standard path of master's or PhDLearning in a different way appealed to LeanneOne day -Early on in 2018, this is it! The day is here and Leanne signed up!Host agrees that timing and location is not only about real estate. We can't push the river or rush what can't be rushed. Learning patience and timing is an exquisite lesson - the time was right and Leanne was right for the timeLeanne connects the dots looking back to understand flow of lifeIs not a planner, scheduler, detail-er of Life which to her unfolds as it's meant to beTip: Keep eyes and ears open for opportunities, for what's right for you - listen internally and externallyWhen it's time for a new path, cut it and walk it22:25 to 26:45 The Book of Java: Together We Write and 2 Key Take-AwaysYou wrote in The Book of Java: Together We Write (a collective opportunity)shortly thereafter Akimbo altMBA that you took away 2 long-lasting features of that experience: (1) Relationship with time, and (2) Sense of Community. Tell us more about that.Akimbo altMBA turned the writing back onLeanne chose book writing as her Akimbo altMBA project/cause to exploreIntensive 4 weeks: writing and shipping with her Akimbo altMBA cohortDeadlines and little time to think got Leanne to just ship her work without a sense of fear or consequence about how it would land or be successfulAkimbo altMBA was safe place to play and practice her writingAfterwards (with this built-in sense of lasting community) having found people like her who wanted to write, kept up with group writing, the Java GroupLeanne put her work into communal place, gave generous feedback and then shipped based on intentionIdea: Let's write a book about writingThe Book of Java:Together We Write is a multi-chapter book about writing and what it means to write and what writing together taught us26:45 to 30:20 Fear and PerceptionsIn your chapter (beginning on Page 51) in the Book of Java: Together We Write you mention the fear that came up when you were first writing and how that affected the flow of your words. Two questions: Did you perceive yourself as a writer? And, if not, what changed it?No, Leanne saw herself as other things with other labels, but not ‘writer'Through writing Leanne realized that because she writes she's a writerLeanne retrained her brain to believe she's a writer by using those wordsThe more you build new habits, thoughts, beliefs, narratives the better you create neural pathways and tell a different story to yourselfThe more you talk about it, write, put your work out there the more you come to realize you really do writeThe world will not fall apart - it doesn't matterReinforcement loop works: I'm putting this out into the world, the world's not falling apart and some folks like this! Good on me and my writing! Well done! The more you write the more you write and then you claim your Page and then you find yourself telling someone, “I'm a writer”Now I see myself as a writer and I'm much more confident saying that30:20 to 37:34 Daily BloggingYou are prolific as a daily blogger with deeply thoughtful topics, details, questions, calls to action and the like. How many posts are you up to and what inspires you to create these posts day in and day out?Has posted 562 consecutive blog posts (as of this recording on 12th July 2021)Leanne is amazed to say thatAn old story: Leanne believed she was not disciplined because she was not a left-brained, planning, structured personLeanne is a flowing meander-er who “wasn't disciplined enough”; but with writing felt a call to write daily to build a muscle like any exercise or practice like meditation which feeds the entire processFor a time the daily blog was a desire; but towards the end of 2019 Leanne started to feel the need to write (an idea waiting for the time to happen) and fortunately there was a community trigger into daily writingAfter the first 30 days of the writer's group activity it continued month-to-month and became Leanne's habit: Write quickly: 15 minutes; think less; ship it!LinkedIn is Leanne's posting platformNow her daily blog posts are part of how Leanne livesIdeas come from everything - a source of potential themes, patterns, ideas, sparks of something directly and indirectly leading to a deeper question or thought to ponderHost recalls a question and answer: How do you become a storyteller? Tell stories. How do you become a better storyteller? Tell more stories. The take-away: if you want to write, you write. You sit down and write. You don't know where it will go but it will be something37:34 to 40:34 Changing Futures Which brings us to your consulting practice: Changing Futures because our workplaces have shifted and do not look like they did nor will they going forward. Neophyte sport psychology practitioners face many challenges, such as misconceptions about what sport psychology is and doubts about its effectiveness. Moreover, when a young female practitioner enters a professional football club, she is likely to face gender- and age-based prejudice. In this episode, Dr Francesca Champ shares her story of entering and working in a men's professional football environment over three seasons, providing psychology support to academy players and working with staff and parents. We also discuss women in sport psychology more broadly and the ways that working in an applied context has been meaningful for Fran, despite the challenges associated with the work. Dr Francesca Champ is a lecturer in Psychology in Football at Liverpool John Moores University (UK) and an applied sport psychology practitioner, who has explored these questions in her research and practice. Her doctoral research was a practitioner-researcher ethnography in a professional football environment in the UK where she delivered applied sport psychology support over three seasons. Francesca's research more broadly has explored psycho-social development and identity in professional football, organisational and cultural sport psychology, applied sport psychology consultancy and mental health in sport. You can find out more about Fran's work in this area from these publications: A tale of three seasons: a cultural sport psychology and gender performativity approach to practitioner identity and development in professional football 'Through the lens of ethnography': Perceptions, challenges, and experiences of an early career practitioner-researcher in professional football And remember to follow Fran on Twitter: @fchamp1

Are we concerned by the slow start on the recruiting trail? What is the next step for Manny Diaz as he enters his third year as a head coach? How much has he grown into the position? Lake and Urrutia tackle all the questions. You don't want to miss this episode! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Becoming a professional footballer is a dream for so many young boys, but we know that only a very small fraction of them will ever play in senior-level professional sport. What are the implications for being involved in the talent development programmes in football academies for the identity development of these young people? What about the vast majority of youth players who never "make it"? Can they look back and say that being involved in a talent pathway was an enriching experience, despite not fulfilling their aspirations? Dr Francesca Champ is a lecturer in Psychology in Football at Liverpool John Moores University (UK) and an applied sport psychology practitioner, who has explored these questions in her research and practice. Her doctoral research was a practitioner-researcher ethnography in a professional football environment in the UK where she delivered applied sport psychology support over three seasons. In our conversation, she shares her experiences and observations about the culture of professional football and what implications it can have for the development of youth players. Importantly, she also shares the practical ways she has worked towards supporting broader identity development in youth players. Francesca's research has focused on psycho-social development and identity in professional football, organisational and cultural sport psychology, applied sport psychology consultancy and mental health in sport. You can read about the findings from her doctoral research in these articles: An exploration of the experiences of elite youth footballers: The impact of organizational culture A tale of three seasons: a cultural sport psychology and gender performativity approach to practitioner identity and development in professional football 'Through the lens of ethnography': Perceptions, challenges, and experiences of an early career practitioner-researcher in professional football And remember to follow Fran on Twitter: @fchamp1

The Antichrist is a fake Jesus Christ. The way he fools people is through peace. The Bible says, 'Through peace, he will deceive many.' But then people will realize how evil he actually is. Pastor Greg Laurie warns about the Beast, the blasphemer, the evil one, who will carry out Satan's bidding during the End Times. This week, we're revisiting a conversation with my dear friend and award-winning journalist and filmmaker, Nyasha Kadandara. Nyasha just had a huge win at the Sheffield International Documentary Festival! Her Virtual Reality film ‘Le Lac' won the "Best Digital Narrative Award" at the Sheffield International Documentary Festival in England. The film, which Nyasha spent almost two years working on, tells the story of how Lake Chad had shrunk to a tenth of its former size, and the impact on the communities that depend on the lake. Nyasha took the bold and unusual step of giving the lake a poetic voice to tell the story. "Be open to the unexpected." - Nyasha Kadandara In between our giggles (it's always so strange interviewing a friend and fellow journalist!), Nyasha talked about her passion for storytelling, and how that led her to leave a career in the corporate world to pursue journalism and filmmaking. You see, Nyasha actually studied for a business degree at the University of Cape Town (UCT), with the intention of becoming an Actuary! She volunteered on the university's student newspaper, where much to her disappointment, her first article didn't get published. But that only inspired and challenged her to become a better writer. By the time Nyasha was in her senior year, she had been promoted to editor-in-chief. After graduating, Nyasha got a job at a local IT consulting firm...but she wasn't happy. She realized that what she really loved was storytelling. Nyasha finally decided to take a chance and go after her dream of becoming a journalist and filmmaker. She applied, and was accepted into the prestigious Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in New York. Since graduating, Nyasha has produced several award-winning documentaries including 'Through the Fire', 'Queens and Knights' and most recently 'Le Lac.' Another recent documentary ‘Sex & The Sugar Daddy', which was an intriguing yet controversial look at the 'Sugar Daddy' or 'Sponsor' culture that is widespread in Kenya, was published by BBC. Listen in as Nyasha shares her inspiring story, and she shares her thoughts on the impact she wants her work to have in the world.
This episode features the discussion of chapter 16 of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone with the title 'Through the Trapdoor'. I try to answer questions such as "Which mythological hero made it past Fluffy first?", "Did Snape write embarrassing poetry as a teenager?" and "Why does no one ever listen to Neville?".
In a candid conversation, Libier Reynolds, one of the most fun, positive, and outgoing personalities, sits down and shares her story. It hasn't always been sunshine and rainbows though. Libier was born in Mexico (1:00), and always had a passion for performing (5:00), but her journey to acting took many dark turns, which almost made her quit for good (9:00). After moving back to Sacramento, Libier felt a void from not acting or performing. She spent many days praying to God asking why the urge hadn't gone away to act. Out of nowhere a friend asked if she wanted to star in the movie Splashed (20:00). That experience alone unleashed a creative wave that has resulted in her self named blog Libier.com and a book called 'Through the Wilderness' (41:00).
Kyle Pfeiffer of Blacklite District returns for his second special guest slot to talk about the band's upcoming album 'Through the Ages' and the success the duo have earned in the last 12 months. Joined by the host, the three talk about the recent Oscars, recent movies, the upcoming summer season of movies, and even manage to squeeze in a little sports discussion. It's a record-setting 2-hour marathon, with all the best bits sprinkled liberally through the show. You may need to break up this TODDcast into multiple listens, but if you want to be entertained this might be well worth the listen!

The pub has awards for being the most Druid-Friendly pub in Sussex! The Holly Lord from Woman of the Earth Woman of the Earth One of Spiral Dance's earliest albums, 'Woman of the Earth' is where Celtic folk rock meets pagan inspired tales of magick, myth and legend. It contains not only Holly Lord, but the Goddess and the Weaver, Into the Green, Hour of the Wytch, the title track - Woman of the Earth - and others. It is now sadly out of print but can be found as a digital download at CD Baby or Soundclick. One of our favourite albums. Spiral Dance Band Members The Band The band was formed in 1992 as a project to explore some of the more mystical elements in life and has drawn its energy from the song-writing and vocal skills of Adrienne Piggott. Adrienne’s haunting lyrics are supported by Nick’s driving guitar work and Paul’s innovative accordion lines. Adrienne Piggott Adrienne hails from an immigrant family and grew up surrounded by stories and songs from Ireland and the British Isles that were part of every day life, ensuring her love of the music, legends and traditions from these cultures. She began singing in pub sessions in her late teens and early twenties, then went on to sing in a cappella groups and folk bands. Her interest in the occult and magic led to the creation of the band Spiral Dance - her ‘dream child’- a passionate union of her voice and song writing gifts. Adrienne has won awards for her vocal talents and wordsmith skills and has written most of the songs that appear on the Spiral Dance albums. [source] Nick Carter Nick had always wanted to play guitar for as long as he can remember and says he would still love to know how to play. He started playing in his early 20s for fun and had a passion for rock and blues, Eric Clapton being the main influence. The blues was followed with lead guitar and a very short stint of heavy metal. He auditioned for Spiral Dance in late-1996, an ordeal that consisted of playing all the songs from the bands first album (Woman of the Earth) and then a live gig two days later! And the best thing about being in the band? "The biggest thrill when playing live is watching the audience singing the words back to us, whether it is a gig in Australia or overseas!" [source] Paul Gooding Paul is one of the leading exponents of the button accordion in Australia, his skilled honed in the folk clubs and festivals of his native England. He moved to Australia in 1998 and joined Spiral Dance in 2000, bringing with him his love of English folk ballads and passion for European dance tunes. In 2009, he was very proud to win "Most Outstanding Instrumentalist" at the South Australian Folk Awards. [source] The Gathering from 'Over the Nine Waves' Over the Nine Waves Over the Nine Waves was originally a song cycle featuring narration and songs. The narrative tracks and album artwork are available free at www.spiraldance.com.au. Based securely in Irish Myth, this album contains 10 superb tracks by Spiral Dance as well as some enchanting narration by Vince Brophy. Tales told with song and narration of the legendary characters from the Irish Mythological and Ulster Cycles, which are the oldest surviving prose in western literature, memorised as they happened and handed down from generation to generation by bards before the introduction of literacy. You can still get this album from Soundclick with the narrative tracks as a free download directly from Spiral Dance. Willyaroo, South Australia Adrienne mentions the town of Willyaroo which is near Adelaide in South Australia. We had to look this one up to get the right spelling for you! She also mentions the terrible injustices that the White Man inflicted upon the aboriginal tribes,in particular, the Peramangk. Damh the Bard and Cerri Lee & 'Oscar' the Dog Damh and Cerri We are joined for a surprise appearance by Damh the Bard, Cerri Lee and Oscar the Dog! 'Oscar' Fae Dance & Through a Sylvan Doorway from 'Through a Sylvan Doorway' Through a Sylvan Doorway Two tracks from the seminal work in the Spiral Dance discography. Thomas Middleditch (HBO's Silicon Valley) is a gentleman and a dandy who chose to watch the Morgan Freeman narrated 'Through the Wormhole.' Thomas and Craig talk God, the create-tor, brain helmets and computer universes. And, of course, Matt Mira makes a cameo to drop some Turok: The Dinosaur Hunter knowledge.
Writer Pat Barker is fascinated by the First World War; for twenty years now, her award-winning novels have returned again and again to the trauma and grief and erotic intensity of wartime. Her novels draw on the experiences of real people: Siegfried Sassoon, Wilfred Owen, and in particular the army doctor W.H. Rivers, a pioneering psychiatrist who treated victims of shell shock. As this centenary year opens, with all its commemorations of the First World War, Pat Barker talks about why and how we should remember War - and about the power of fiction to tell historical truth. She reveals that her fascination with war began as a child; she was brought up by her grandparents, and her grandfather had a bayonet wound which she saw every time he washed at the kitchen sink. 'Through my grandfather and my stepfather, I have a direct link through to the world before the war - for me it's not simply reading history.' Pat Barker herself was a war baby - born in 1943 after her mother, a Wren, had a one-night stand with a man in the RAF. She never traced her father, and that central mystery in her life, 'half my identity missing', was part of what drove her to write. She talks about the stigma her mother faced as an unmarried mother, and in a moving section of the interview she wishes she could speak to her mother now to tell her 'It doesn't matter'. Pat Barker's music choices include her grandfather's favourite music hall song - his party piece as a boy in the 1890s; Anton Lesser reading two poems by Wilfred Owen, and Benjamin Britten's setting of Wilfred Owen in his 'Nocturne'; Butterworth's 'The Banks of Green Willow'; original cast recordings from Joan Littlewood's 'Oh What a Lovely War'; and Elgar's Cello Concerto, in the famous recording by Jacqueline du Pré. First broadcast 05/01/2014.

Influenced by the darker side of psychedelic trance and metal, rock n roll and industrial bands, he blends all his musical influences with the science fiction genre and morphs it into the Onionbrain music.
