Episode 130: Another Hour Of Great Tunes From The 60s & 70s (As I Say, "Mostly") February 15, 2024 There's a tradition here at TVT to try not to repeat any tunes. Unsuccessful I've been but if I do repeat, there's a high quality put on a number. That's why we start out with two from Traffic's John Barleycorn Must Die LP. It is a very cool musical masterpiece. And you'll also hear Link Wray, Tracy Nelson, John Kongos and more. The ever-so-popular JIMJAM today is CSNY's Teach Your Children, soon, so get ready for TVT! There are many podcast apps that carry Tales Vinyl Tells, like my feed site that sends TVT out to the universe, Podbean.com, Apple, Player FM and others. Of course, our flagship, if you will, is Linda's StudioMillsWellness.com, where we first posted the podcasts in Dec. 2019. You could also stream TVT live at 5 Central time at RadioFreeNashville.org. In fact, you should listen to them often and send some financial support their way too. I'm very grateful that you listen and even more grateful when you financially support this cause to dig up, play and preserve that great sound and visit the lifestyle of the 1960s & 70s. If you don't already give monthly, why not consider it? Go to patron.podbean.com/talesvinyltellssupport to find out more. I put a lot of effort and time into making this hour as uplifting, fun and entertaining as I can make it. Can you tell I need attention? Thanks y'all!

ERROL FLYNN Irish-American film actor, best known for his swashbuckling roles He was known as the Tasmania Devil, The Swashbuckler, and The Baron of Mulholland Errol Flynn was the most dashing and reckless actor to take Hollywood by storm in the 1940s. But Flynn's antics off-screen far overshadowed his brief but brilliant prime as the biggest box-office star at Warner Brothers.  He was LEGEND.  But sometimes legends can turn out to be darker.  With scandalous whispers of being a nazi spy, heroine trips, and two-way mirrors and sex parties in his Mulholland it was no wonder he was introduced with the promiscuous catchphrase, “In like Flynn”  in ep. 93 we will take a dive into Errol's early life, career and death.  In the Paranormal Association, we learn that Tracy Nelson the Daughter of former teen heartthrob and singer Rick Nelson had lived in one of Flynn's most notorious homes.  It was there where she claimed to have been haunted by the spirit of Errol Flynn and had witnessed the chain of events that led to her father's tragic end.  So grab some salt, pour yourself a martini, and get comfortable as we talk about the Life and paranormal aftermath of Errol Flynn, Hollywood's handsome devil.  Trigger warning  Please note that this episode contains depictions of addiction & sexual assault that may be triggering to some listeners .   Listener discretion is advised.  If you or someone you know has been a victim of sexual assault please contact the Natl Sexual Assault Hotline at 1800656HOPE that's 18006564873 for confidential 24/7 support  Or visit www.rainn.org.   Magic Mind! My guest is Tracy Nelson, a medical assistant who has been on the front lines of COVID. She is a mom and empty nester in a new chapter of her life. Tracey talks about her past history of abuse, how she has changed her parenting style since healing and how she dealt with the trauma of losing her youngest child.Told to Keep Her Childhood Abuse a SecretAs a young child, her abuse started with her father. When she told her mother what had happened, her mother told her not to say anything and keep it a secret. Finally, however, she did report the abuse, and her father only received a year of mandated counseling.Being in and out of rehab from suicide attempts and eating disorders, Tracey wasn't able to deal with the trauma and lack of consequence her father received for abusing her so severely. Then, at the age of 18, he abused her again. She moved out of her home and, at 24, realized she was pregnant. “My son saved my life,” she says, as she was drinking and doing drugs at the time. Her pregnancy gave her the chance to turn around her life. How Her Dad Shows LoveHer father, when confronted with the sexual abuse, says that's just how he shows love. So she sent a letter to her stepmom telling her of the sexual abuse she endured with her dad when her stepmom was pregnant with their daughter. The only response she received was a note from her bishop that she should forgive her father and move on.Flipping the Relationship Switch before MarriageHer second husband was emotionally abusive to their family pet, the children, and to Tracey. “He would be really threatening and we would all walk on eggshells.” Most of their children don't have a relationship with their dad now, but they are very close to Tracey.Listen in to find out how Tracey succeeded in finding a trustworthy relationship, what modalities Tracey is using to heal, and how she uses Shadowwork to heal her emotional hurt.Resources MentionedJoin Me on Speak Loud PlatformSpeak Loud Podcast on the webSpread the message of Speak Loudly Podcast and share this episode with a friend!***Disclaimer: All content found on Speak Loud Podcast, including text, images, audio, or other formats were created for informational purposes only. Basketball is a strong link game—teams can be built around the star player. Soccer is a weak link game—teams need qualified players in all positions in order to be successful. So what does this concept teach us about building our own teams and cultures? Learn from soccer coach Tracy Nelson of Portland Thorns Academy as she explains that building a winning soccer team requires not only skill, but chemistry, character and culture. You can't just pick a star player and jeopardize the culture if they break apart the entire team. A successful team leverages individual strengths—and aligned towards a shared goal, they can win. Learn how you can apply these same principles to build stronger teams that deliver better results. Members of the Aces played in Fatback, a local band in Knoxville, Tennessee, in the late 1960s and early 1970s, consisting of vocalist and guitarist Russell Smith, bassist Jeff "Stick" Davis, drummer Butch McDade (born David Hugh McDade in Clarksdale, Missouri; February 24, 1946 – November 29, 1998),[1] and Fatback's first lead guitarist Mike Brooks and later Dan Kennedy. The band left Knoxville in the early 1970s.In 1972, the Aces came together in Memphis, Tennessee, at the recommendation of Barry "Byrd" Burton (born in Greene County, Tennessee; September 7, 1946 – March 10, 2008),[2] who was engineering and producing at the famous Sam Phillips Recording Studio in Memphis. Davis and McDade, who had recorded and toured with singer-songwriter Jesse Winchester as "The Rhythm Aces",[3] recruited Smith, keyboardist Billy Earheart III, lead guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Burton and pianist James Hooker to develop a sound mixing of pop, country and blue-eyed soul.Stacked Deck, their debut album, released in 1975, resulted in two crossover (rock and country) hits, "Third Rate Romance" and "Amazing Grace (Used to Be Her Favorite Song)," the group's lone Top 10 country single. In 1976, "The End Is Not in Sight (The Cowboy Tune)," from the album Too Stuffed to Jump, won a Grammy for Country Vocal Performance by a Group. "Third Rate Romance" reached No. 1 on the Canadian pop/rock charts. These tracks were engineered by Burton, who produced their first three albums.Burton left the group after the release of Toucan Do It Too in 1977 and was replaced by Duncan Cameron. In 1978, the Aces released Burning the Ballroom Down, followed the next year by a self-titled album featuring songs with Joan Baez, Tracy Nelson and the Muscle Shoals Horns. Both albums received critical approval but sold poorly. They released another album, How the Hell Do You Spell Rhythum, before disbanding. The Aces re-formed in 1994. The group, composed of Smith, Davis, McDade, Earheart, Hooker and new guitarist-mandolinist Danny Parks, released Ride Again, an album of new renditions of their biggest hits.

Con él cantó a dúo en "Are There Any More Real Cowboys?". Escuchar audio

Les, Kurt, and Jason delve into one of pop culture's greatest mysteries: Where can one view the early 2000's TV pilot that Bob Newhart filmed with Sisqo (he of Thong Song fame)? We may never get answers to that, but, we do get some Blac Chyna news, some super weird Hulu recommendations for Kurt, and some more raves about Love, Victor. What we don't get in this week's Lifetime movie The Wrong Mommy is some Tracy Nelson... but we do get peak creep from Eric Roberts, Vivica in true boss lady mode, and Dee Wallace throwing down some master kickboxer moves! The guys will delve into all the hard-hitting questions like "does lip balm make you gay?" as they get an INCREDIBLY detailed explanation of autoerotic axphixiation and squeeze the public library's advertising budget for all the money they've got.   Facebook : alifetimeofhallmark Instagram : lifetimeofhallmarkpodcast Theme song generously donated by purple-planet.com

Les, Kurt, and Jason are about to do something they've never done: revisit a movie after having already done a podcast about it. Maybe you weren't lucky enough to hear their epic 2019 episode about Lifetime's The Wrong Neighbor before it inexplicably went missing from podcast platforms and all of their computers. But it never went missing from their hearts, and the guys are now able to look at it with much greater context about the Wrong Cinematic Universe. But before they can even dive in, they discuss Andy Warhol's autobiography, the apparent swingin' sex lives of Dick Van Patten and Gene Siskel, The Forbes story about The Bold and The Beautiful's plans to use lifelike sex dolls to help film, and Blac Chyna's plans to collaborate with Nicki Minaj. With all that amazingness out of the way, even though we DON'T get to see Vivica A Fox, Eric Roberts, or (critically) Tracy Nelson, we DO get to (eventually) see Michael Madsen pre-lunch and post-lunch. We also get to see the producer's girlfriend, a security expert that has no idea what a tax attorney does (or possibly a chiropractor), and a newly discovered Lifetime trope of getting gussied up to visit a food truck. And we have the Shanks and the Kiwis to thank (in part) for this Lifetime movie, The Wrong Cheerleader. Sure we have Vivica A. Fox in some spectacular tracksuits, but where the hell are Tracy Nelson and Eric Roberts? And why aren't we being treated to any actual cheerleader routines? What the movie lacks in screen time for Vivica A. Fox, it more than makes up for in snooping (Kurt thinks, correctly, that Les  should give a Ted Talk on the subject). But that leads the guys to wonder what snooping looks like during our current pandemic... and to Les and Jason having to explain the magic that is Domino's Pizza Tracker and Kurt's desire for it to cover the ENTIRE life of the pizza (including after consumption). As they feast on the movie's exposition, provided "wonderfully" by the Exposition Twink, they discuss the roles they've lost to more famous people, film shoot PROPS vs. CATERING (and the grey area in between), and the complicated long term planning that clearly went into visiting a coffee truck.  Facebook : alifetimeofhallmark Instagram : lifetimeofhallmarkpodcast Theme song generously donated by purple-planet.com

Before Nashville, I’d never lived in a place where part of the regular conversation and social/cultural goings on was to figure out the essence of that place and to take active steps to get closer to its heart and soul. There was never a big emphasis on what does it mean to be from Chicago or Washington DC or Durham, NC, three of my other home bases. There is such a conversation about New Orleans and Austin. Music cities are like this. But I wonder if there’s any place more probative of its place-ness than Nashville. What I know is that it’s a healthy conversation to have and one that we are good at cultivating. When we partner with the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum as we did this Wednesday, our city’s essence comes into tighter focus. We’re elevated in our attention and admiration. We heard a distillation of what it means to be a Nashville Cat. Can you sing? Write? Play? Cooperate? We know this when we hear it. We’re cat people and we’re into cat power.

Known as a respected “songwriter’s songwriter,” Jim Lauderdale is a versatile and highly prolific artist who is equally comfortable writing country, bluegrass, soul, or pop. His 1991 debut, Planet of Love, was packed with original songs that went on to be covered by George Strait, The Dixie Chicks, Gary Allan, Lucinda Williams, Mandy Barnett, and others. Since then, Lauderdale has recorded nearly thirty albums, including the Grammy winning releases Lost in the Lonesome Pines and The Bluegrass Diaries. Patty Loveless has recorded five of his songs, including the Top 10 single “Halfway Down” and her hit duet with George Jones, “You Don’t Seem to Miss Me.” Likewise, George Strait has covered well over a dozen Jim Lauderdale compositions, including the Top 5 hits “We Really Shouldn’t Be Doing This,” “What Do You Say to That,” and “I Gotta Get to You.” Others who have recorded Jim’s songs include Elvis Costello, Dave Edmunds, Tracy Nelson, Shelby Lynne, Vince Gill, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Blake Shelton, Gary Allan, Lee Ann Womack, and Solomon Burke. In addition to his Grammy wins, Jim took home both the Song of the Year and Artist of the Year honors at the 2002 Americana Music Association Awards. The 355th Roadhouse takes on holiday blues in more ways than one. I include several blues Christmas tracks. And, we express our own holiday blues at the passing of Hubert Sumlin with a full Sumlin set. Omar & The Howlers, Roomful of Blues, Savoy Brown, Oz Noy, and Tracy Nelson stand right out in this edition of The Roadhouse. Yet, they manage to leave plenty of room for a full stable of great blues tracks that fill another hour of the finest blues you've never heard.

GUITAR SHORTY is a giant in the blues world. Credited with influencing both Jimi Hendrix and Buddy Guy, Guitar Shorty has been electrifying audiences for five decades with his supercharged live shows and his incendiary recordings. Through the years, Shorty has performed with blues and R&B luminaries like Ray Charles, Sam Cooke, B.B. King, Guitar Slim and T-Bone Walker. His recordings all received massive critical acclaim, and his renowned live performances have kept him constantly in demand all over the world. His latest release on Alligator Records "Bare Knuckles" was nominated for two Blues Music Awards. TRACY NELSON has one of the signature voices of her generation.A fierce singer of truth, a fountain of the deepest heartache, she is an ultimate communicator and has regularly captivated audiences across decades of performing. She is one of the few female singers who has had hit records in both blues and country genres, performing with everyone from Muddy Waters to Willie Nelson to Marcia Ball and Irma Thomas, with Grammy® nominations for both her country and blues efforts. With "Victim of the Blues" (Delta Groove), her 26th album in just over five decades, she has circled fully, back to the original music from South Side Chicago that mesmerized her teenaged mind in the mid-1960s.
