The band is fronted by Spain-born singer, Taran de Pablos and features guitarists Adam Arling (The Last Vegas, Urge Overkill, Warrior Soul) and Tony McQuaid (Loudmouth, Frank Bang & the Secret Stash), bassist Sean Barnes and drummer Chuck Harling. Their music is heavily influenced by the blues-infused sounds of classic bands like Aerosmith, The Rolling Stones or AC/DC. With a recipe based on grooves, hooks, and loud guitars as the main ingredients, The Midnight Calls are not reinventing the Rock & Roll wheel, but rather rolling it down the road with the swagger and style that you would expect from road-tested musicians that have toured the US and Europe a few times over. Send us a textCome ride the rails with us for this week's variation on the “I'm So Cold” theme, as we eternally loop through the arctic, post-apocalyptic wasteland of 2013's “Snowpiercer.”  Directed by Bong Joon Ho and starring Chris Evans, Sir John Hurt, Ed Harris, and Tilda Swinton, and based on a French graphic novel of the same name, this film creates a fascinating world that definitely left us with more questions than answers.  We also learn some interesting facts about trains, as well as recalling our own experiences with them, and maybe make some dinner plans. Best-selling author Michael Koryta of Bloomington based his book, “So Cold the River,” at the West Baden Hotel in Orange County. In fact, you could argue the hotel is essentially a character in the book. And so when it came time to make "So Cold the River" into a movie, there could be no other spot to do it. Enter Pete Yonkman, president of the hotel's owner, Cook Group. Yonkman is friends with Koryta and the folks at Pigasus Pictures, a Bloomington-based film company. So he connected the two—and stayed involved. In fact, Yonkman and Cook CEO Carl Cook (the son of Bill and Gayle Cook, who funded the hotel's renovation) invested in the movie and facilitated Pigasus' use of the hotel, which closed down for several weeks to accomodate filming. Host Mason King talks with Yonkman and Zack Spicer, CEO of Pigasus Pictures, about the hotel, the story and making the movie. Show notes: edmprod.com/128 This week, DLMT sat down to chat on the EDMProdcast DLMT is a DJ and producer based in Toronto with releases on labels like Armada, Confession, Dim Mak, and Musical Freedom, and his track So Cold hit #1 on the Billboard Dance/Mix Show Airplay Chart just last year. We start with DLMT's background, looking at his progression from metal bands in high school to producing on his own in college. We look at how he built his career early on with no connections, and how he curated a solid fanbase to turn his passion for music into a career. On the production side, we discuss DLMT's writing workflow, looking at how he separates writing from sound design and mixing. He reveals his favorite techniques for drum programming and processing, his approach to curating his own sample library, and how he adds movement to more minimal tracks. DLMT also dissects his mixing workflow, offering advice on crafting a full mix with minimal elements, as well as the single best mixing tip he's been given. Later on, we discuss the long-term ramifications that the pandemic situation may have on the music industry, especially given the large amount of show cancelations. Olga "Olgha" Nkweti is a singer-songwriter from the English-speaking part of Cameroon. She began singing professionally aged just 17 and has made a name crafting covers of popular songs into Pigdin English, but also writes her own soulful afro-pop compositions. She talks to RFI about composing the song Cold to draw attention to the innocent victims caught up in the Anglophone conflict. "I decided to write Cold to create an awareness about what has been going on in the English speaking zones of Cameroon," she tells RFI's Laura-Angela Bagnetto when the two women meet in Douala. "We've had a crisis for the last three years or so, and it doesn't seem to be letting up. "I realised there was a lot of pointing of fingers and everybody was trying to blame the other party for starting it. But there was not enough information about the victims. So I wanted a song which was going to focus on the fact that we are losing on both sides: we are losing family, we're losing friends, we are losing children and old people and helpless people. So Cold is a story about that kind of loss." This talk is a special one in its own way as the guest, Josh from Green Light Studios, is the man behind giving life to the lyrics and tunes of the first two singles of Designed Conviction Entertainment: “Walk the Line” and “So Cold”. Taylor tells how he and Caleb Twidwell took the music to the studio and how they got to know Josh. Josh shares that he did the projects first because he enjoyed the music and understood their motivation. The work was awesome and they needed help to make it happen as he knew it was their dream. He tells how he went into the music industry from the time he was in high school, to playing guitar, to starting recording as a part-time job till he opted to go into it as his full-time job now. He says by seeing the studio grow to have clients who become fans of each other makes him proud as he sees his studio growing a community of its own. Despite Josh not having been incarcerated before, he shares such awesome insights while telling his opinion on matters of life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. He says all humans make mistakes, especially the young. He acknowledges that the human brain is never fully matured until the late twenties. Josh says it is not okay with society judging people on what they did in the past and overlooking their new personality acquired after years of hard work and behaving well in prison. Listening to this will go a long way in reducing the stereotype about inmates imposed on society.

The SIR Band released its debut album, "So Cold," late last year. The Denver trio traveled to California to record it in a West Hollywood studio, where pop stars Shania Twain and Kelly Rowland were also recording at the time. The band cites a wide variety of musical influences including '60s soul, '90s alternative rock and present-day pop. The SIR Band visited the CPR Performance Studio to play four songs from "So Cold." The band also spoke with Alisha Sweeney about paying tribute to one of the members' late fiancé on the album and performing at the South By Southwest festival in Austin, Texas, four years in a row.

Hello team. Welcome to our first bonus episode. In the Secret Origins series, we will be discussing specific characters and their backgrounds in both DC and Young Justice. She received her BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and received her MFA from the University of Southern California. Her piece, THE CHARACTER AND SHAPE OF ILLUMINATED THINGS (FACIAL RECOGNITION) was part of the show Image Objects organized by Public Art Fund in New York City. Erik Frydenborg is also an artist based in Los Angeles. He received his BFA from the Maryland Institute, College of Art, and an MFA from the University of Southern California. Rivers are at the heart of defining the identity and lifestyle of many cities around the world, and that is nowhere stronger than in Newcastle on Tyne in the Northeast of England on the banks of the River Tyne. The people who live on the banks of the Tyne are fiercely proud of their river. Once the river was an industrial powerhouse of the British Empire, and by the 1880s the Port of Tyne exported the most coal in the world, and the river was amongst the world's largest shipbuilding and ship-repairing centres. There has been much consideration of how the River Tyne has shaped Tyneside and Tynesiders, but very little appreciation of the enormous extent to which people have shaped the river. To bear out this invisible history of the river, historian Leona Skelton, a Post-Doctoral Research Assistant at the University of Bristol, has worked on a research project that challenges us to think from a river’s perspective and to include in our river histories the flow pathways which rivers ‘wanted’ to follow, regardless of the changes that humans have forged upon the river. On episode 69 of the Exploring Environmental History Podcast Leona challenges us to look at a river as an historical actor with its own agency. Leona’s Research was part of the British Arts and Humanities Research Council funded environmental history initiative “The Power and the Water: Connecting Pasts with Futures”, that focuses on environmental connectivities that have emerged in Britain since industrialisation. Steven Kleisath joins our story with his journey though music, competitive gaming and airport limo runs. You've heard him before; he's played drums in Strongarm, Shai Hulud, Further Seems Forever, En Masse and Comanche. Mr. Kleisath is also the World Record holder in the classic arcade game "Mario Bros." - scoring over 5 million points. He is also the #3 Ms. Pac-Man (Turbo) player in the world as ranked by Twin Galaxies. All of this and still manages to drive for a Florida limo company called Alphatrans. He once toured with Shai Hulud AND Strongarm and played two sets a night! Steven tells us for the first time that there is a "How To Start A Fire" reunion brewing for 2016. (Thanks Steven!)
