In this powerful conversation, I sit down with Alessandra Belloni, an internationally acclaimed singer, percussionist, teacher, and author, to explore her profound journey as both an artist and a medicine woman. With over 40 years of fieldwork studying Southern Italian folk music and the traditions of the Black Madonna, Alessandra shares how her creative expression is deeply connected to her healing work. We dive into the ancient trance dance of the Tarantella, a practice rooted in healing trauma, particularly in women, and in reconnecting to the body as a sacred vessel of ancestral wisdom. Alessandra speaks about the transformative power of dance and ritual as tools for integration, embodiment, and spiritual awakening. Together, we explore the mystical presence of the Black Madonna across different traditions and how she serves as a powerful archetype of spiritual guidance, resilience, and unconditional love. This conversation is filled with ancient wisdom, black void potency, and the deep holding of the great ancient mother. We also touch on the importance of surrender, the role of community in healing, and how ancient practices can offer insight and strength for the challenges we face today. Alessandra's work is a reminder that through rhythm, movement, and connection to the sacred, we can remember who we truly are and return home to our bodies, our ancestors, and each other. So settle in. This is a deep, beautiful, and potent episode. Discover Alessandra's work ❤️

Imagine healing from surgery in a miraculous way…or seeing a vision of the Black Madonna over your bed and hearing instructions for your life's purpose... These might seem like far-fetched stories to you and me, but for today's guest, this is the story of her life. Last week I shared her book, Healing Journeys with the Black Madonna. This week I am thrilled to introduce you to the author of that landmark book, the one and only Alessandra Belloni! Let me tell you a bit about her: Alessandra Belloni is an internationally acclaimed award-winning singer, percussionist, author & teacher, artistic director of the Italian Folk Music Dance Theater Company I Giullari di Piazza, and artist in Residence at the Cathedral of St John the Divine in New York City. For the last 20 years she has been leading special workshops, tours and pilgrimages in the South of Italy and in Sicily teaching drumming and ritual dance and taking people from around the world to the sacred sites of the Black Madonna. She discovered that the ancient practice of ritual drumming can help women heal both physical and emotional issues. In this episode, she will share her miraculous journey of discovering the Black Madonna and the path of the Great Goddess, including her own miraculous physical healing! Alessandra shares amazing stories of healing, as well as the origin of the Black Madonna and how connecting with Her connects us to everything. I hope this interview inspires you as much as it inspired me! Ps- if you want the link to her book, click here for the show notes. And to listen to it in her own voice, click here for a FREE 30 Day Trial to Audible.com! Key Learnings: The Black Madonnas pre-date Christianity. They are based on the original mother image from Africa, the Great Cosmic Mother, the darkness from which all life emerges. Alessandra, though born in Italy, came to live in the United States as a teenager. She had a powerful connection with the Divine Mother since she was a child, she shares with us her miraculous encounters with the Black Madonna and how she learned how to help women heal. The Black Madonnas want to be seen. Go on pilgrimage to visit them, and see them with your own eyes, this is the path. Many people make annual pilgrimages to Italy and other places where the Black Madonnas reside as part of the spiritual path. “The Black Madonna represents the Great Cosmic Mother and the darkness from which all life emerges.” Alessandra Belloni To find out more about her work, visit https://alessandrabelloni.com/ You can also find her on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/AlessandraBelloniArts On IG: https://www.instagram.com/belloni.alessandra/ I recommend listening to her book! A woman's spiritual path is a healing path. Having an image of the Divine that looks like you, sounds like you, lived like you…and IS you, is the heart of this healing path. There is no better book that I can recommend to support your healing journey than Alessandra Belloni's miraculous book, Healing Journeys with the Black Madonna. She takes us on her own miraculous journey of discovering the Black Madonna and the path of the Great Goddess, and how she discovered an ancient way to help women heal both physical and emotional issues. In this episode, I share the chapter that Divine Mother asked me to read to you! It is about the Black Madonna of Tindari, a very powerful and healing form of the Black Madonna. I am so excited to share that next week my special guest will be the author, Alessandra Belloni! Ps- if you want the link to the book, click here for the show notes. And click here for a FREE 30 Day Trial to Audible.com! Key Learnings: 1. The Black Madonnas are statues and icons that are believed to originate in Africa and have traveled north to areas of Europe. There are seven of them in southern Italy that are referred to as the Seven Sisters. 2. Alessandra, though born in Italy, came to live in the United States as a teenager. She had a powerful connection with the Divine Mother since she was a child, but in this book, she shares with us her miraculous encounters with the Black Madonna and how she learned how to help women heal. 3. The chapter I read, chapter 7, is about the Black Madonna of Tindari, Sicily. It takes us through her first encounter with this Madonna, including experiencing the magic of the earth in this magical area. Miracles are in every chapter of this book, and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in learning more about the ancient path of the Goddess! “The Black Madonna is the female embodiment of God because God is a woman, and She is black. She embraces everyone with Her unconditional love as Universal Mother.” Alessandra Belloni I recommend listening to this book! We hope you will consider showing your support through our Patreon page. This helps to keep the episodes coming. Thank you so much! https://www.patreon.com/theplayerswebcast I have been following Sergio Bellotti for many years. He is among the top perforners and educators in the music business. This interview goes deep into the topics of education (bringing out the best in your students and watching them evolve), professionalism, learning, performing, and much more. Watch, learn, and enjoy. There's GREAT education in this interview. Here's a bit more information about the rich and diverse career of Sergio Bellotti. Sergio Bellotti is an international artist and Renaissance man. As a powerful and tremendously gifted drummer, he's played with some of the world's finest musicians. As an educator, he's an in demand clinician as well as a professor at the esteemed Berklee College of Music. As an entrepreneur, he owns 247 Drums which caters to the needs of drummers everywhere. Hailing from Bari, Italy, Sergio's passion for music and accomplished drumming spurred him to move to Boston in 1995 to attend the Berklee College of Music. Shortly after arriving in the U.S., Sergio met his longtime musical partner, fellow Italian expatriate and bassist extraordinaire, Tino D'Agostino. Together they founded and continue to lead Spajazzy, a jazz fusion group, which has featured guitarist Mike Stern on both of their cd releases. Good company indeed. In addition to his professorship at Berklee, where students from all over the world come to study, Sergio serves as a visiting artist at the GM Drum School in Torino, Italy and as a faculty member at the Conservatorio Della Svizzera Italiana in Lugano, Switzerland. Sergio is the founder of the “Do You Speak Drumming?” program and often travels to Europe to conduct clinics, concerts and master classes. He is a drum artist for both Yamaha Acoustic and Electronic drums. Sergio has recorded or shared the stage with world class musicians such as Blues Hall of Fame and Grammy nominated Joe Louis Walker, Mike Stern, The Platters, The Drifters, Tom Scott, Nathan East, Robben Ford, Alessandra Belloni, Bernard Purdie and Rocco Ventrella to name but a few. He has performed at international festivals such as the Montreal Drum Fest, The Golden Jazz 2015 in China, Bari In Jazz 2010,Cape Breton International Drum Fest, Berklee World Percussion Festival and the PASIC and 5 consecutive KOSA festivals. Sergio has been based in Boston ever since arriving in 1995 and is still immersed in the city's lively music scene. He holds down the drum throne for his weekly gig with We Jazz Up. Their Tuesday night show at Slade's has become a time honored ritual and one never knows which talented musician might visit to sit in. In addition to being an artist, educator and clinician, Sergio ministers to the needs of drummers with his shop, 247 Drums. The major manufacturers of drum gear have recognized his talents, and besides Yamaha, Sergio is also an endorser for Remo drumheads, Sabian cymbals, Vic Firth drum sticks and the Vibe T5 Stick which he designed himself. Whether playing, recording, teaching or supplying drummers with gear, Sergio Bellotti is truly a renaissance man.

Mallorie Vaudoise’s Neapolitan ancestors migrated to the US at great sacrifice to build a firm foundation for future generations. Mallorie grew up knowing life is not about being a consumer; it’s about being a steward for the next generation. She talked about ancestors beyond our bloodlines and how to venerate them and receive their blessings. In perfect synchronicity, Janet realized her desire to be “home” in the Hudson River Valley is the call of her Huguenot ancestors who came to America in 1624! Mallorie Vaudoise has a spectacular array of spiritual credentials. She is a witch of Italian Catholic descent and apprenticed to the world-renowned Italian folk musician and shaman Alessandra Belloni. In addition, Mallorie is an initiated Olorisha priestess in Lucimi and a Quimbandeira com licenca in Brazilian Quimbanda. Mallorie writes a wildly popular blog, Italian Folk Magic, and just published Honoring your Ancestors. Join our community and get your free gift at janetconner.com/14.

Alessandra Belloni, world-renowned percussionist, singer, dancer and actress, born in Rome, voted one of the best female percussionists in the world by Drum Magazine chats with me tonight about her new book, Healing Journeys with the Black Madonna. We'll examine why Alessandra is so drawn to the Black Madonna, delving into who She is and how She is related to her work as an artist and healer. Belloni will explain why she believes god is a Woman and she is Black. We'll discover the healing drumming and dance traditions from Southern Italy and why it is important that she helps women. Of particular importance and interest is the Tarantella, a healing trance dance connected to the Black Madonna, which Alessandra believes healed her of a cancerous condition. Men benefit from this tradition and we'll go there, too. Don't miss this revealing interview.
This conversation transcends the word “conversation.” It is more of a mystical journey marrying the ancient past and the present. We travel to southern Italy with Alessandra Belloni, get lost with her, stumble upon Our Lady of Freedom in Benevento, hear the caretaker’s call to pray for freedom, and begin to chant. This is so no longer a podcast. This is living prayer. Living devotion. Living sacred chant. Alessandra Belloni is a world-renowned percussionist, singer, choreographer, and creator of I Giullari di Piazza, an Italian music and dance theatre company devoted to performing and teaching the ancient devotional music and rituals of the Black Madonna—traditions that have been kept alive for millennia in Southern Italy and are just now being introduced to the world through Alessandra’s mystical thriller, Healing Journeys with the Black Madonna. We talk about really interesting topics focused around some of the Southern Italian tradition of tarantism. "The "bite of the tarantula" was a myth applied to a condition familiar to women through the centuries who experienced abuse, repressed sexuality, powerlessness, and the feeling of being "caught in a web that binds them." Sufferers, known as "tarantate," endure "tarantismo," a lethal mixture of depression, loneliness, and oppression." - Alessandra Belloni, Facebook About our Guest Alessandra Belloni Alessandra Belloni is the Artistic Director, Founder and Lead Performer of "I GIULLARI DI PIAZZA", an Italian Music, Theatre and Dance Ensemble, she is also Artists-in-Residence at the Cathedral of St.John the Divine in New York City.
