It is time to go down a rabbit hole, my friends. The Rabbit and the Hare are both symbols of abundance, fertility, the womb, the moon, rebirth, and the goddess - and in this month of Ostara (Vernal Equinox) and Easter, when I am releasing this 3rd installment of the 3rd season of my podcast in the 3rd month of the year the symbol of the triple goddess, the trilogy, and the triple rabbit known as the Triskele (spelled out T R I S K E L E) is front and center in my consciousness. The Triskele, the symbol of the triple rabbit or three hares, features three rabbits running in a circle and their ears join in the center to make an equilateral triangle. This symbol transcends religions found in Buddhist, Muslim, Christian and Celtic/Nordic traditions. It's found on a cave wall in China and drawn on rocks in Germanic and Celtic stones, and found within Christian churches in the British Isles. Like many symbols, it has been adopted by religion, but not really religious, as religion is really the new kid on the block - symbolism goes back much further into the primordial origins and archetypes of humans. Symbols are the sacred geometric building blocks of the universe - circles, squares, and triangles. All things are built on, and with these 3 shapes and sacred geometry is the stuff upon which all material comes into formation. I told you we were going down a rabbit hole and here we go - if you look at the Triskele in Celtic illustrations the rabbits running in circles are often replaced by spirals - the spiral is the Fibonacci Sequence and the pattern that fractals, flowers, snails, trees, crystal and all life grows in. In other words, the triple rabbit is the fibonacci sequence, the sacred geometric pattern of all life. So, my three rabbits running in a circle with a triangle in the center represent life itself. The kingdom of heaven is embodied in this flesh, for I am the kingdom, the power, and the glory. Amen. (singing a little) "Jesus Christ Superstar… do you think you are what they say you are?" I share this Andrew Lloyd Webber lyric to make a point - Jesus, our celebrated riser from the dead at this time of year (symbolizing the resurrection of the earth from winter and all the cycles of rebirth and fertility that come at the vernal equinox), DID know EXACTLY what he was and was trying REALLY REALLY hard to get the rest of us humans at the time to listen. We are spirit embodied in this flesh. The glory and power of divine energy is held within this physicality. Thus, all the power of a god to manifest miracles can come forth from within each and every one of us. Spirit is symbolized with a triangle, as is fire. The fire of alchemy, the transformation from muck to gold. From this mundane flesh to spirit. To be enlightened is to sever the attachment to this physical body, being ALL that we are and are meant to be in this life. Yes, our physical bodies are built from sacred geometry; just look at the double helix of our physical DNA and then at the glyph of the Kabbalistic Tree of Life. But that just means our spirit is currently contained in our flesh, not that we are only this flesh and blood. Our journey in this lifetime, and what Jesus was trying to teach us, is that we can create miracles in our lives if we believe we are and choose to truly know ourselves as God. We need to know ourselves as divine beings capable of manifesting the life of purpose we want to live. But no one but ourselves can know yourself as this divine being. But once we choose to know ourselves as divine, as spirit, as a creator of our life - ignorance of our larger universal power cannot be taken away. The fundamental knowledge of the self as divine spirit opens the gate to the kingdom of heaven (not some place in the clouds with angels playing harps). Still, you reclaim your crown as the sovereign of your life and create a kingdom of joy, light, and abundance for yourself, your family and your community. And this is how we are going to create peace on earth. Like the church hymn. "Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me." Shambala is a world where humans have actualized themselves, awakened to the possibility that they are the creator God of their life and are living that daily. They are treating themselves as a God and thus treating others as a God. If you know and love yourself as a divine and worthy being, you can know and love another as a divine and worthy being. Even if that divine being makes choices that harm you. You can forgive those who harm you because they know not what they do. They are ignorant that they are God and that they are harming another god. They are ignorant that they have a choice in what they are doing. Okay, some of you may now think I've fallen off my proverbial rocker with this rabbit hole. I've gone from three rabbits running in a circle to sacred geometry, Jesus Christ Superstar, and You are God. Yep—and now we are going to talk about the Easter Bunny. Jesus Christ, Angel. Yep, Exactly. In my research about rabbits and hares, in an attempt to find some creative take on talking about Abundance Mindset or fertility, I went down a small hole little road about the Oschter Hare, i.e., The Easter Hare or i.e., the Easter Bunny to which many today attributes to the myth of Ostara or Eostre turning a bird into a rabbit and the rabbit laying eggs to show its gratitude to the goddess. This legend is pretty recent (like the late 1800s), but as synchronicity would have it, one article I read quoted a story from an April 13, 1911, Warren, Minnesota newspaper. My mother is from Warren, Minnesota as was her mother and father, my maternal grandparents George and Agnes Sabol. My grandparents were both from prolific Catholic families with 12 and 13 siblings at once. They were farmers of the midwestern plains, stoic and practical - but seeing the date of 1911 I wondered if either of them (George or Agnes) saw the article when they were growing up and if either of them ever believed in the Easter bunny. Ironically, Warren is the name of a home for rabbits - I learned this as a little person reading Watership Down, which isn't a book for children. However, I was not a normal child, and I picked up most of what Richard Adams was lying down with his rabbit allegory. The quote from the 1911 Warren, Minnesota newspaper article reads. "The Easter Bunny is said to have been a bird which at one time drew the chariot of the goddess of spring and was turned into a hare. Every year, however, at the coming of spring, the hare remembers and in commemoration of its original bird nature lays eggs as an offering to spring & youth that it symbolizes." I never really believed in the Easter Bunny, but I did enjoy the tradition of the basket and the chocolate that was found there on Easter Sunday morning. I'm still not a fan of Cadbury eggs to this day (too sweet) but Easter Candy makes me think about my grandmother Agnes and going to church. (I'd always stuff my pockets with easter candy when brought to church on easter, and the chocolate would melt and get all over my hands, to my grandmother's great dissatisfaction). My grandmother loved to sing hymns. I think when she sang in church, it was one of the few times she felt joy in her life - because at that moment, she could connect with God within and without and be in the light, free from the sorrow of a life pockmarked with abuse, alcoholism and pain caused by untreated stomach and emotional maladies. I loved to watch her sing even if I hated being in the church because I knew it was her happy place, and nowhere else was. I've spent a lot of time thinking about my grandmother Agnes. When you are a really young woman, and you watch one of your primary caregivers so miserable that they drink themselves to death, it sticks with you. And I know now that she suffered from the side effects of being sexually abused as a small child and other untreated trauma. But sorrow is not the only thing I learned from my grandmother Agnes. I knew the power of planting seeds and nourishing the world around you. She was a master gardener, and her plants were prolific. She was the living embodiment of The Empress archetype or the abundant mother goddess Lakshmi, as everything she touched grew abundantly, and she fed her family from her bounty. On an income of nothing but social security, my family never had food insecurity. There were vats of sauerkraut, beets, asparagus, fresh beans, carrots, tomatoes, radishes, lettuce, and raspberries all summer long, and pickles and canned things all winter. The men brought home the venison, and the women waited in line for government cheese and agricultural subsidies. We were financially poor but we were neither hungry nor lacking, ever. There was always enough money and prosperity to give to the church and to celebrate all holidays and birthdays. All of our needs were met. And we always sang. Sang in church. Sang when picking the beans. Sang when making a lemon meringue pie. And when singing, she knew joy, and we always had enough. And this is true abundance - joy in knowing you are spirit, resting upon gratitude and celebration of what you have even if it is not perfect, even sometimes if it is very far from ideal. When we can have true gratitude for everything we have and celebrate it and our life, we can be in a space of true joy and flow abundance in all aspects. In some ways, it is just that simple. It is a rabbit laying eggs to celebrate spring and show gratitude to the goddess when it remembers it was once a bird. It is recognition that we are something way bigger and greater underneath this flesh. It is remembering who we truly are. We are spirit. We have never been born, and we will never die as spirits. And by remembering who we are we tap into the universal knowing, into the flow of life itself, and we start to create and love and experience joy - and thus take steps to nourish ourselves and others holistically - not just our physical bodies so we can step out of survival mode/lack mentality and instead see beyond lizard brain and switch into thriving/ abundance mindset where there is always enough. We run not away from things but towards things or for the joy of the wind in our hair or the feeling of using our legs where we gain the courage to create new pathways to plant new seeds in our life for new experiences versus settling for comfort zones. So, our exercise for this month is to plant a seed of joy in your life and to celebrate an accomplishment to nourish that joy with song and dance. First, meditate and get clarity on one thing you want to create for yourself by August (1st Harvest/Lammas). You will have four months to nurture this seed. Write down what you want to create on a slip of paper. Now, take this piece of paper outside and find an appropriate place to plant it on the earth. You will dig up a little bit of soil and plant it, just like you would a natural seed. After you bury it, you will nourish that joy seed with the water and fertilizer of your song and dance. You are going to celebrate unabashedly with complete silliness around the seed. Sing your favorite song or hymn, or make up a ditty and dance around the joy seed at least three times. But I encourage you to do even more than 3, work up a sweat! Get into it! Make yourself laugh at yourself. Belt that song out of those lungs and celebrate life, what you have accomplished, and what you can do as a divine being. You are the creator of your destiny. You are the rabbit who can lay eggs because you remember who you truly are! Dance in that circle, nourish your joy and grow in abundance. You are the nurturer, the God, the goddess; you are the spirit! You can create miracles. The kingdom of spirit is embodied in your flesh. Dance it out. Make that seed grow, sprout, and blossom into abundance throughout your life. You got this. Have fun with it! Light that alchemical fire of joy in your heart. Well, I hope you enjoyed this little circle down a rabbit hole today, my friends. May you have a joyful spring, a blessed Ostara, a happy Easter, and a prayer-filled Ramadan. If you need a little assistance planting seeds of abundance and nourishment in your life, I can help with that! Reach out via my website and book a call today.

In the unconscious, coincidence does not exist. A bizarre tragedy drives ten-year-old Paul from his dysfunctional home, leaving his younger sister, Bethany, behind. Paul flees to his estranged father's apple orchard where he discovers comfort and parenting for the first time. Two decades later, the long-lost siblings settle separately in NYC where a gifted psychoanalyst, Lillian, develops independent relationships with them as all three characters search for seemingly unattainable connection while carrying inescapable demons. In Triskele (Atmosphere Press, 2023) by B. D'Amato, we experience a psychological story that takes us through generations to the research and art departments, galleries and art lecture halls of distinguished Franklin University; an idyllic upstate farm; heart-wrenching therapy sessions; a seminary and the raunchy crime and drug infested NYC streets during the early 1980's. A kaleidoscope of settings provide symbolic backdrops for the complex, human desires of individuals struggling for emotional wholeness. The story explores the irrational behaviors people embrace and the apparently antithetical, yet underlying motives, for their actions. Rich dream material furnishes complexity and deepens perspective into the conflicts of each character's internal world, all the while asking: where do we find grace? B. Thanks to my newest Gunn Runners on Patreon: Alice M, Karla A, Triskele, Ayden B 28:49 - DEFENDING YOURSELF FROM AI DEEP FAKES One of my favorite podcasts to listen to is called Akimbo. It's by Seth Godin, a brilliant marketer and thought leader. He constantly challenges his listeners to “make things better by making better things.” That resonates with me. One of my early Irish & Celtic Music Podcast slogans was “changing the way you hear Celtic music.” That was about improving the culture, embracing change, recognizing that our past is important but so is our future. That's what podcasting is all about. Or it can be. This week, Seth didn't something intriguing. He asked ChatGPT to evaluate the functions, the future, and the problems of artificial intelligence like ChatGPT. He recorded the responses… Well, sort of. It turned out the entire recording, except the intro, was an AI voice manipulator that sounded almost exactly like Seth Godin. There was one moment in the recording that I thought, this is kind of dry sounding. I chalked it up to ChatGPT. Little did I know, it wasn't Seth speaking. My mom just shared an AI scam that's happening. I have an idea on how to fix. Thank you Harry Potter! The scam is that an AI simulator will call you on the phone and have the same voice as someone you know. They say that they are in financial trouble. They ask for your help. What do you do? At some point, the simulator will be good enough to fool you. Just like Seth Godin's podcast fooled me. We're already there. But I immediately came up with a defense. It's from the final books of Harry Potter. I'll let ChatGPT explain: “In the final books of the Harry Potter series, Remus Lupin asked Harry Potter a question to prove that he was not an imposter. The question was: "What is the secret of the Marauder's Map?" This was a question that only the true creators of the map - Lupin, James Potter, Sirius Black, and Peter Pettigrew - would know the answer to. Harry correctly answered that the map was activated by tapping it with one's wand and saying "I solemnly swear that I am up to no good," and that it could be closed by tapping it again and saying "Mischief managed." This answer convinced Lupin that Harry was indeed who he claimed to be.” Yeah. I was talking about it with my mom and realized this is the way we need to protect ourselves from THIS AI scam. We ask a question that only the person we're talking with would know the answer to. Seems simple. But it's a good lesson to pass on. So please please share this idea. Because at some point, you won't be able to tell who's real and who's not. Mind you, that's not to scare you. As I said at the beginning, change is inevitable. We need to work with this bizarre new paradigm. As Seth Godin's podcast points out, it can be beneficial or it can be hurtful. We have the power to choose and to make change. So let's do something for the better. Oh and if you want some more thoughts on ChatGPT by Andrew McKee and me. We did a great podcast on it on the Brobdingnagian Bards Podcast. 37:47 - Marc Gunn “The Long Arm” from As Long As I'm Flyin' 39:33 - CREDITS Thanks for listening to Sci Fi Pub Songs & Stories. What happens when a traditional Irish song is rewritten about zombies? And I have CDs!!!! If you didn't say, “You have Cds…”, you'll find out why it's important. It's kind of funny. We kicked off the show… 5:04 - WHAT'S NEW STORY I really should talk more about the stuff I sell in my store. But it feels uncomfortable to do so. That's one of the reasons if you go to any of my live shows, and I say, “I have Cds”. Audience members will shout “you have Cdddsss?!” It's a little gimmick I use to draw attention to my merch. And it's really catchy. I was listening to the last episode of the podcast about writing drinking songs. While I talked about my song “The Cat Came Back… the Cat's Perspective,”. It's from my C-D… And then I paused, just like I do at live shows. When I listened to the episode, I responded, “You have CDs…” It got me thinking. Could we do that same thing through a podcast? I don't know. But we're gonna try. We're gonna make this podcast into a sort of an interactive drinking game. Each time I mention CDs, your job is to audibly respond, “you have CDs…” 6:25 - UPCOMING SHOWS APR 1-9: Sherwood Forest Faire, Paige, TX APR 6: Dragon Con Filk Music Concert with Brobdingnagian Bards @ 7 PM CST APR 20: Cat Drinking Songs on Bandcamp @ 7 PM EAST APR 21-23: Jordan Con, Atlanta, GA APR 29. But if you send an email to pubsong@celtfather with a short comment about the show… or just mentioning CDs that you love, that's a great way for us to interact and have more of a conversation. In fact, if you need a starter, I'd love it if you would grab your phone. Go to your voice recorder app. Say, “You have Cds”. Then email it to me. Marisa Halvorson emailed: "Hello Marc! I have been listening to your songs practically nonstop this St. Paddy's season (I'm in NOLA and work on Magazine street so season it is) I had to work on the day the Irish Channel parade rolled and definitely enjoyed it more with your songs keeping me company while locked in my building by parade goers. Thank you for always keeping me company and my spirits up with your music." Kennedy Johnson emailed: "Happy St Patricks Day to you Marc. First, let me point out, a drinking song isn't about alcohol. It's a song with a fun, easy-to-sing chorus. Sometimes it's interactive. “Wild Rover” has claps in the chorus. “Rattlin' Bog” and “The Unicorn Song” have a whole bunch of motions that act out the lyrics. “Seven Drunken Nights” and “Big Strong Man” have phrases that the audience shouts back at the singer. These were the songs I was thinking of when I wrote the cat's perspective of a famous folk song. I never liked “The Cat Came Back.” It was cruel and I love cats. So I decided to rewrite the song using the melody of “The Moonshiner”. But I wanted to make it a call-and-response song. So I added “Ka-Boom”, “Gurgle” and more to the end of the verses. But when I finally decided to play it live, I had NO idea how to get the audience to interact with the song. Eventually, I taught the audience the 5 different responses (five, really? What was I thinking?). I introduce each exclamation before the verse. But it's still difficult to get them involved. If you want to write a drinking song, keep it simple. One call and response throughout is best. Teach it at the beginning of the song. “Slainte Mhaith” is a great drinking song. It has an easy-to-sing chorus. But it also has a super easy call-and-response. “When I sing slainte mhaith, you shout it back to me. Slainte mhaith! [Slainte mhaith]”. Sometimes you learn to do something the easy way. With this song, I learned what not to do. Ah well. Live and learn. Here's the lyrics to “The Cat Came Back… The Cat's Perspective”: I was a crazy cat for many a year, My years are advancing. Now I sleep in my chair. But old Mr. Johnson still wants me to play If I don't get active, he'll send me away. I'm a yellow tabby, kinda flabby. And I'm coming home. And if you don't like me, then leave me alone! I'll eat when I'm hungry. I'll sleep when I'm tired. And if you try to wake me, you'll wish you had died. His neighbor ambushed me with shotgun and dynamite. My cat senses warned me. So I put up a fight. I clawed at his cigarette. It fell to the floor. It lit the dynamite as I ran out the door. KA-BOOM! He gave me to a boy with a dollar and a note To drown me in the river when we were afloat. I saw the rope come towards me and let out a yowl. The boat tipped on over. The poor boy was drowned. GURGLE! He gave me to a man going up in a balloon. I clung to his head. I am no buffoon. The man tried to free me, but then lost control. I stole his parachute as he crashed ‘gainst a knoll. KER-SPLAT! He took me to the mill where the meat was ground. He left off the lights, so I wouldn't look around. But I saw that food processor come closer to me, I jumped to the floor. He tripped bloodily. CRUNCH! Mr. Johnson, Mr. Johnson, I know you hate me, But I have nine lives and you haven't even three. Blessed are the cat lovers. Blessed are all kitties So love me or leave me alone for to sleep. One of the more creative is through banking. The fossil fuel industry is funded by investors. What happens if investors refuse to invest in them because they don't want to support the fossil fuel industry? We will see greener energy. There's a campaign in the U.K. asking people to green their investments. Thinking about that I just migrated to a new Mutual Fund so that my money no longer supports Fossil Fuels. Yeah. My small mutual fund will not make a huge difference. But imagine if just you and I made this change and we had the exact same amount in our pension? What if 10 other people on my mailing list did the same? Or 30? Multiply your pension times 30 and we start to make a real impact. That's really what it takes. It takes each of us being aware and making small changes to force banks to stop investing in fossil fuels and start investing in the health of our planet. 52:34 - Marc Gunn “St Patrick Never Drank” from Kilted For Her Pleasure 54:50 - ALBUM GIVEAWAY CONT… 56:47 - Marc Gunn “Wild Mountain Thyme” from The Bridge 1:01:29 – CREDITS Thanks for listening to Sci Fi Pub Songs & Stories. The departure of the Irish from Ireland in the 1800s had some tragic consequences. Jamie Haeuser's songs “Men of New Basin Canal” and “Bridget's Prayer” dig into that. So we're gonna dig into the songs and the album How America Saved Irish Music. Great news about my next album, Come Adventure With Me. Bandcamp now playlists. And learning to say no. Well, assuming you were part of the Kickstarter. My engineer, Mitchell, sent me three songs last week. I listened to each of them while I was getting my car emissions tested. We spent the rest of the morning emailing and forth with mixes and edits. I love the result, and those are the final tracks for the album. I should have a track listing soon. I want to make sure we nail down the last of those songs. But I greenlighted Mitchell to start creating a song order so I could start listening. The other thing I finally did was come up with a couple Album Pin designs thanks to Miranda. I ran a poll on Patreon between two different designs: one a dragon and one a compass. It was a tight poll. They both are pretty fantastic. But as they say in Highlander: there can be only one! That's actually not at all true. I can do more. But for the Kickstarter, I went with the Compass design that reads: “Never Stop Adventuring”. I'll send that to the printers as soon as I have a track listing. Finally, I'm still on target for sending out the digital album to everyone on Kickstarter on March 17. Here's hoping! 21:10 - Marc Gunn “Whiskey in the Jar feat. She was driving back from an Irish session in NOLA to her home in Robert, Louisiana across the causeway. She told me she had written lyrics for two songs. She asked if I'd set them to music. Of course, without hesitation, I said, “Yes! What are they about?” She then told me how the Causeway she was driving across had once been the New Basin Canal. It was a shipping canal from Lake Pontchartrain through swamp to booming uptown part of New Orleans. Work on the canal began in 1832. Almost immediately, they ran to problems. Yellow fever ravaged the workers. It was deemed too costly to use slaves to build the canal. So instead, the Irish immigrants were hired to build it. Many people don't realize that New Orleans was one of the top immigration points for the Irish behind New York and Boston. As a result, it's estimated that between 500-30,000 Irishmen died digging the New Basin Canal. No one knows for sure the exact number. Wikipedia suggests 8000 might be a more accurate number. But holy crap! But even a popular number of 8000 people dying to dig this canal is insane? So Jamie decided to write a song called “Men of New Basin Canal” to share their story. 26:43 - Marc Gunn & Jamie Haeuser “Men of New Basin Canal” from How America Saved Irish Music Here, we came to find a bit of land Land our fathers never had No land we found but only death From fever, the yellow jack The yellow jack, one day you're up The next you're in the grave A grave they call New Basin Canal For us six miles of pain * Heave ho, boyo, it's dig and death Heave ho, God help us all O‘Hanlan was the first to fall Then down went Mike O'Shea The boss called up and down the line For men to bear away The men who fell, hundreds a day Shook like a Mayo gale Too few there were to dig the trench Too few to bear away. Why is it Erin's sons are called When slaves they cannot spare When earth and water must be moved To make the rich man's share From lake to river to move the goods That make the rich men more Down we fall time and again And none to hear our prayer But we will rise, somehow, sometime To rule those who rule us We'll fight to o'ercome the loss Of thousands of Ireland's best We will be known as men who died Will live to make our mark The men of New Basin Canal Known as New Orleans own It's a powerful story. It had me mesmerized imagining the almost shanty style of work to dig the canal. So when I came up with the melody and chorus, that's the rhythm that I picked. Especially with her “Heave ho, boy”. It just screamed sea shanty. Later, Jamie and I recorded the song for our CD, How America Saved Irish Music. The one little thing I had to add to it was a crash symbol. You see, I have long thought this was a great sing and interact along. In particular, I always imagined clapping like this. Heave ho, boyo, it's dig and death [clap, clap] Heave ho, God help us all It gives it a great energy. But for the recording, I didn't want clapping. I wanted that crash symbol much like the one used in the song “Zombie” by The Cranberries. Jamie didn't stop at one song though. She also wrote “Bridget's Prayer.” It's basically the same story but it's from the perspective of women who watched their men die digging the canal. The ones buried them. It's another great song. Oh, Michael, please don't go today You're shakin' like a leaf We will make do, o stor, maron We will make do somehow I've washing in, I can do more Just don't go back, I pray It's death my darlin' one, I know It's death in that new canal I pray, in holy Bridget's name I pray, God help us all My babies need their father here My babies need you so Please don't go back, I know that you Will fall if go you do I can find work, I'll sew and wash ‘Till bloody my fingers are Just don't go back, oh, stor maron It's death in that new canal Oh, Michael love, I cannot live Without you, dearest heart Find other work, I care not what Find anything but that I cannot stand to see you fall Like our friends before have done Too many widows made too young It's death in that new canal A big thanks to TJ Barrens, our sound engineer, Doctor Sick, who provided fiddle and mandolin, and Katie Haeuser who shared some amazing background vocals for the album. 29:52 - INTERVIEW WITH JAMIE HAEUSER 49:27 - Marc Gunn & Jamie Haeuser “Bridget's Prayer” from How America Saved Irish Music 51:31 - JOIN THE CLUB The show is brought to you by my Gunn Runners on Patreon. Thanks to my newest Gunn Runners on Patreon: Alice M, Karla Ad, Triskele, Ayden B 52:25 - SAYING NO, EVEN IF IT'S INCLUDED Inara asked me to fill her juice bottle up to a certain line. No higher! I asked her why. She said it was because if she drinks more than that, then she'll get filled up and not be hungry for breakfast. I was blown away that at age 8, she already knows her limits. I might've learned that by 48… She also knew that it was too tempting if I gave her more than her limit. She might end up drinking it. Seth Godin wrote a blog recently about saying no, even if it's included. He concludes that “No might be better than free.” I've come to appreciate saying, “No,” a little bit more recently. I do it on those rare times I go eat fast food. “Do you want the meal?”. No. Not really. Thanks. But I'm also thinking of it in terms of environmentalism. The Album Pin printer I use, GS-JJ, automatically put each album pin in plastic when it is shipped. I really don't want those little pieces of plastic that encase each pin. It just occurred to me today, I can say, no. I can ask them to not put them in there. I bring canvas tote bags to the grocery store so I can bag the groceries myself and not take another plastic bag home with me. When I choose fruit and vegetables, I pick the ones that aren't in plastic bags. I get a little grossed out by putting them on the scanner. But then I wash them when I get home. I don't need more stuff in my life. If I buy it, it needs a reason to stick around. Sometimes that can be for pure enjoyment. Sometimes it's like you want to archive something you love, like many of you do with CDs or USBs. But most of the time it's gotta be something practical. So I do my best to say no. Obviously, I'm. not perfect. I don't do all of these things every time. But as long as I'm learning to say no to excess more than I say yes, I'll call that a win! What about you? What do you say “no” to? 1:00:57 - Brobdingnagian Bards “The Orange and The Green” from Brobdingnagian Fairy Tales We talk about AI on the next Brobdingnagian Bards Podcast. 1:03:22 - BANDCAMP APP NOW HAS PLAYLISTS One of the big reasons I started selling my music through Bandcamp was because of their app. Yes. You can download music as MP3s or whatever lossless format you prefer, but you can also stream the music through their app. But up until now, I could only listen to one album at a time from one artist at a time. No longer! You can now create your own playlists with music that you own. So if you've been buying my music on Bandcamp these past few years, head on over. Make your own playlist. Buy some merch while you're there. The full store opens up on Wednesday. And this Friday, March 3 is Bandcamp Friday, Bandcamp waives all of their fees. So I earn a little bit more from each purchase. It's prolly a good time to pick up some USBs to archive your music! Or get a ticket to my St Patrick's Day concert. Email a voicemail message to celticpodcast@gmail.com Antje Wilke wrote from Germany last year: "this is now the test of whether you really answer personally (even to a weird German who is nothing but an advanced English learner who stumbled across and fell in love with the Irish language and music while searching for English listening fodder on the internet). In the middle of 2019, I got an Irish neighbor who didn't speak a single word of German and asked me for assistance all the time. Luckily, I came across the right online English teacher on Instagram who brought me out of my shell... I soon realized that I love the English from the south of Ireland the most. It was only a matter of time that I also got in touch with Irish culture and tradition (including the language and music). I even started learning Irish and playing the bodhrán. I'm still a beginner in both (maybe my Irish is already a little better than the drumming, but I only started in November). And since I wanted to find music other than my teacher's to play along with, I googled around. And that's how I stumbled across your podcast. Long story short, I've been fascinated by Celtic music, but even more so since I started learning Irish. I wish one day I could sing some traditional songs in Irish. The Sean Nós singing is so beautiful, too. Wish you a wonderful Christmas wherever you are and keep on making music and all the stuff around it. Nollaig Shona agus slán go fóill!”

Christmas is a coming in 2022 with Triskele and the Celtic Christmas Podcast #64. Subscribe at CelticChristmasPodcast.com. Music from We Banjo 3, Reilly, Caitríona O'Leary, Triskele, The Barra MacNeils Welcome to the Celtic Christmas Podcast I am Marc Gunn. I am a musician and podcaster. We are promoting Celtic culture through Christmas cheer. I'm working on another new format for this show in 2022. Galway-based We Banjo 3 has one foot in Irish music and one foot in Americana music, seamlessly combining the virtuosity and precision in each genre's traditional disciplines with the artful song-craft and infectious live performance of today's musical landscape. This is their 10th year performing together to thousands of fans at Irish and Bluegrass festivals. Their latest album is called Open the Road. And I'm happy I looked up that information because I can also add it to the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast that I host. 0:53 - We Banjo 3 "Joy to the World" from A Winter Wonderful 3:40 - THANK YOU CHRISTMAS PATRONS The Celtic Christmas Podcast is brought to you by the kindness of Celtic Christmas fans on Patreon. Your generosity funds the creation, promotion, and production of the show. Join others to spread Christmas Cheer this holiday season! Sign up for as little as $1 per episode on Patreon. Winners of the folk rock/Celtic band of the year award by Wisconsin Area Music Industry for 2019 and 2015, Reilly have garnered a reputation for being an interactive, get-off-your-chair act. The band's circuit continues to grow along with their reputation for being a highly respected professional group. National programs such as Good Morning Ireland, Blarney on the Air, and Paddyrock internet radio have featured Reilly. Celtic Radio Music Network rates them as five out of five stars. Their ability to adapt Celtic music to an American rock audience, and include unexpected rock favorites into their set, makes them the perfect eclectic choice in today's watered down and predictable Celtic scene. Their latest album is called Durty Pool. You can find it on their Bandcamp page. 4:47 - Reilly "For You On Christmas" from Kick Ass Celtic Christmas 8:13 - PLAYLIST: Christmas Drive There a number of Celtic Christmas playlists that I published on Spotify. The Christmas Drive playlist is Christmas music you will enjoy while taking a holiday drive to see your family or friends. The Wexford Carols is a 2014 album of traditional Irish carols by Caitríona O'Leary featuring guest singers Tom Jones, Rosanne Cash and Carolina Chocolate Drops singer Rhiannon Giddens and more. The album went to No.1 on the Billboard World Albums Chart. 8:52 - Caitríona O'Leary "Tell Shepherds" from The Wexford Carols 15:16 - HOLIDAY FEATURE: Triskele Triskele, [pronounced Tris-Kay-lee] is the premier all~female Celtic band out of Albany NY. They are known for their stunning harmonies, singing in the Gaelic language and for their Irish wit. Noeleen, who grew up in Dublin and is the youngest of 16, taught Sharon and Jenn the Gaelic language through song. These ladies perform, primarily, traditional Celtic/Irish music, but also have written originals. Triskele not only revitalizes the Gaelic language, but weaves history and traditions about growing up in Ireland. This gives the listener a deeper appreciation and understanding of Irish/Celtic history. Triskele stands out in a Celtic music world dominated by men. They have gained fans and supporters with their ability to keep traditional songs traditional. Fans have stated that they enjoy hearing songs sung with the unique qualities of the female voice; given the timbre and rich, clear harmonies. I'm particularly smitten with their byline–Celtic Trad. with a Women's Touch Their song “Christmas Is a Comin'” is a new addition to the Celtic Christmas music world. But I'll let them tell you more about it. 16:24 - STORY OF CHRISTMAS IS A COMIN' 18:02 - Triskele “Christmas Is A Comin'” from Christmas Is A Comin' Do you have a Christmas story to share? Drop me an email. Include a picture for our shownotes. 19:57 - WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE CELTIC CHRISTMAS SONG IN THIS EPISODE? Make sure you add the song to your own Celtic music playlist or even better, support the artist by buying their music and joining their mailing list, or even joining their Patreon page. Several have that as well. There's another way to share your favorite track in this episode. You can vote for your favorite song or tune when you join us on Patreon. The most-popular track will be added to our Christmas playlists. You have just two weeks to vote. So… Cast your vote for the Celtic Christmas Favorite song. Then let me know if there's a Celtic Christmas song or tune that I should add to the next episode of the show. For more than three decades, Cape Breton-based family group the Barra MacNeils has been thrilling audiences of all ages, near and far, with their sparkling repertoire, vocals, instrumental prowess and vibrant showmanship. They are Canada's Celtic ambassadors! Their Christmas album is currently available on vinyl. You'll also find a wooden tree ornament in their store along with all of their albums. 21:22 - The Barra MacNeils "Party In Washabuckt" from The Christmas Album What did you think of this week's show? Send me your feedback. Celtic Christmas Podcast was produced by Marc Gunn. The show was edited by Mitchell Petersen with Graphics by Miranda Nelson Designs.
In our latest UPL Insights episode, we hear from the creators behind UPL's latest revolutionary product: Triskele. Triskele is India's first triple-mix herbicide, offering vital protection for sugarcane growers across India and beyond. Sugarcanes cover nearly 5 million hectares of India, making fast and safe herbicides essential for increasing grower resilience and a thriving harvest. Sugarcane farmers face 25-50% yield loss due to improper weed management every year, and Triskele aims to minimise these losses through its innovative 3-way combination. In this episode of UPL Insights, we will be speaking to Ganesh Rao, a key scientist behind the creation of Triskele, and will speak on the conceptualization behind the product, Anupam Satpathy, the Global Portfolio Manager for Herbicides responsible for managing one of the largest product portfolios with UPL, and Pramod Tiwari, Head of Field Marketing for India. Our speakers highlight the journey since 2014 to bring Triskele to market in India, and the work that remains to be done across the planet to ensure that as many growers are protected.

Thanks for all you do to produce your Irish & Celtic Music Podcasts. I've got a couple of photos to share with you, but I couldn't get them inserted into this message. I'll try later today." Thomas Bondy emailed from Plymouth, Michigan: "Marc, Regarding the Kreelers “Sixth & Porter” that you've played a few times, I thought you'd dig the attached photos of the Irish workers rowhouse that currently stands near Sixth & Porter in Detroit's historic Corktown neighborhood and was presumably the inspiration for the song. Cheers!"

I told my graphic designer, Miranda Nelson, that the St Patrick’s Day show would be the 500th episode of the podcast. She thought about it and came back and asked, “would you mind if I collected some audio feedback from some of the artists on the show.” I said,” sure! That sounds great!” I’ll be honest, I didn’t expect much of a response. But I remembered that she suggested this when I started compiling this 500th episode. She forwarded me some feedback via email. I looked through them and didn’t see any audio. “Oh well,” I thought. “Less than I expected, but that’s fine.” Then I noticed one band mentioned something about including audio in their email. But I never got that. So I emailed and asked Miranda where that audio was. Her response, “it’s in the folder you set up on Google Drive.” Oh yeah! I did do that, didn’t I? I opened up the folder and was floored to find over 60 recordings by Celtic bands wishing me a happy 500th episode. Wow! Ye know a couple pieces are easy to pop into an episode. But I didn’t think about how to include ALL OF THESE pieces? So what should I do for this show? Instead of me introducing bands and songs, I’m gonna let the artists do it themselves. I will play their congratulations as a way of introducing their music. Course that means if you want to find out the name of the song or tune, you will need to visit the shownotes at CelticMusicPodcast.com or just check your podcatcher. Because each track has a time stamp so you can easily look it up. That said, I’ll have a few moments to break up the music and say hi. But for the most part this is just music and congratulations. I want to thank Miranda Nelson Designs for all of her hard work in making this happen. Miranda has a whole bunch of Celtic shirt designs you should check out at mirandanelsondesigns.com. And I want to thank everyone who has supported this podcast over the past 16 years. And without further adieu, let’s meet the bands. THANK YOU PATRONS OF THE PODCAST! So I just want you to know, I love you for listening and for supporting the diversity in our Celtic community. It’s important to remember kindness in these tough times. So I hope I can bring a smile to your face with more great Celtic music. You may already know that I include timestamps in each episode. This makes it easier for you to find out who is playing and what the awesome track is. A few months ago, we started using an app called Forecast which creates chapters to make it even more easy. I can’t find the email. But a month or so ago, someone emailed and suggested that I put the artist name first, instead of listing the song first. I just did that. So now when you look at the show notes, it should be even easier to find out who is playing what track so you can vote for them in the Celtic Top 20. THANK YOU PATRONS OF THE PODCAST! Episode 18 (April 2006) is still one I listen to every so often. My kids, much younger then, thought 4:15-4:20 was pretty cool. You might think that is a very specific, possibly strange, 5-second range. Listen to it, and you will understand why 4, 8, and 9 year old kids would think that was pretty cool. I cannot recall how I initially found your music, but you introduced me to this genre of music, which I enjoy immensely. Thank you."

Haha" Jeremy Holt emailed from Nashville, TN: "Love the pod cast working on Gibson guitars while listening" John Mahony emailed: "Hi Mark, I’ve listened for quite a while and even went back to listen to the early episodes to see what I’d missed! I enjoy the music, and thanks for taking the time and effort to put this together every week! There wasn’t a specific link to email you with my vote for the picture, but I liked the traditional Irish one better than the Americanized Halloween image. Sorry, since I know you put some effort into making that image, but that’s it. Have you heard of Emma Langford? She’s brilliant and would be a great addition to the podcast some day. I could send you a picture of me in front of my Zoom green screen, but it would be rather boring, I think."

Love your Podcast!" Colleen Ware emailed: "Hi from Delaware, Thank you so much for this music. I first became familiar with Celtic music when my children did Heritage Dancing (Irish and Scottish) through 4-H. I have been in love ever since. I discovered your podcast while I was searching for Celtic music, and listen when I can, especially when my email comes. In 2018 my husband and I were lucky enough to go to Celtic Colors in Cape Breton, where a favorite was the music in pubs. Then in 2019 we spent a month in Scotland, taking in music wherever we could find it. Unfortunately, due to Covid, we had to cancel our return trip in May. Hopefully soon. I weave and spin, and usually listen while I weave. In this very difficult time of the virus and political insanity in the USA, the music and the throwing of the shuttle are very calming. Today I am listening while I thread my heddles with the Harris/Lewis wool my husband managed to pack in the extra suitcase he took just for me to indulge my “fiber addiction”. Take care and stay safe.” Vicki Beach emailed a couple photos from Kentucky: "I have always LOVED Irish and Celtic music!!! I come from a musical family, but I actually design and make jewelry as a little side hustle since retiring! And I just spent the fastest 2 hours of my life working to your newly found podcast on Amazon music!!! I am particularly fond of instrumental Celtic. I also love Bluegrass music and am a huge fan of the band New Grass Revival, and so much of this music sounds like Blugrass’s/Newgrass kissin’ cousin!! This is me and this is what I do while listening to your podcast!!! Thanks so much from those of us who are a wee bit Celtic (even named our kids Celtic names-Duncan and Kelsey). I’m SO glad I found this podcast!"

Seeing as how this time of year is horse racing season leading up to the derby in May I was wondering if you could consider doing a celtic horse special. There are a lot of great celtic songs featuring horses. Some of my favorites were Galway Farmer by The Trinity River Whalers and Darcy's Donkey by Gaelic Storm. Keep up the great job and as always, slancha." Jason Nevins emailed: "Love the Pod, Love the Diversity. Hi Marc, The Irish and Celtic Music Podcast has always reminded me of how, when I was a kid, I used to listen to Celtic music with my mom on weekends. When I left for college and started living on my own, I found the Irish and Celtic Music Podcast, only a few months after you first launched it. Your show helped me stay in touch with my roots as I went through college in Wisconsin, grad school in New Mexico, got married, and had two beautiful children. My daughter is four now and we listen to the podcast every Sunday morning while I make crepes for the whole family. I like to think that she'll grow up and remember weekends with dad and Celtic music the way that I remember weekends with my mom. I was surprised this past weekend to hear that you received negative feedback about the Diversity in Celtic Music episode. However, I was elated to hear your impassioned defense of women, people of color, transgender folks, and all other marginalized groups - many of whom are part of the Celtic music community. As soon as my wife and I heard that, we wanted to show our support for you and your podcast by supporting you on patreon. Thank you for all of your hard work and thank you for speaking out against intolerance, hate, and bigotry."

Lindsay Townsend is doing well at her high school in Wollongong, Australia. She’s pretty and popular and smart enough that she can spend as much time at the beach as she does hunched over her books. Only she knows that the confident self she projects to her friends and fellow students conceals life with an abusive father and a mother determined to keep the peace at all costs. When Lindsay’s handsome young gym teacher takes an interest in her, she lacks both the maturity to resist and the experience she needs to protect herself from harm. Soon she’s caught up in a scandal, facing pressure from the adult world to accept a decision no teenage girl should have to make. In The Swooping Magpie (Triskele Books, 2019), the second of a trilogy set in southeastern Australia, Liza Perrat explores in gritty, compelling prose the rapid social changes of the 1960s and 1970s and the tragedy, loss, and grief that the collision between rules and reality sometimes caused. C. P. Lesley is the author of nine novels, including Legends of the Five Directions (The Golden Lynx, The Winged Horse, The Swan Princess, The Vermilion Bird, and The Shattered Drum), a historical fiction series set during the childhood of Ivan the Terrible, and Song of the Siren, published in 2019. The year 1348 is not a good time to be a healer in Europe. Midwife Heloise lives in a cottage outside Lucie-sur-Vionne, where she walks an awkward line between villagers who need her services and others who fear that she owes more to the black arts than their medical counterparts. When she threatens an invading bandit chieftain with the power of her angel talisman, her enemies are more than ever convinced that she dabbles in witchcraft. But Heloisehas sworn an oath on her dead mother’s soul to help those in need, and she refuses to let a few hostile ignoramuses deter her. Le mort bleu–known to history as the Black Death–arrives quietly on a ship from the east. At first, the villagers make little of it. But Heloise’s husband, fresh in from Florence, recognizes the symptoms of the disease that has devastated Italy and orders his wife not to treat the sufferers, lest she bring pestilence into their house. The villagers’ suspicions mount with the body count, and Heloise’s struggle with her husband intensifies as her concern for her family conflicts with her oath. When the local count takes an interest in Heloise’s healing gift, even her talisman may not suffice to protect her. Liza Perrat has written two previous novels in this series, Spirit of Lost Angels and Wolfsangel. Here, in Blood Rose Angel (Triskele Books, 2015) we learn the origins of the talisman and the history of the female healers who pass it from one generation to the next.
