In some ways, George Santos is having a pretty good year. The congressman-elect's new salary is $174,000 a year, which is a lot more than he was making at the Dish Network call center. Of course, there are some other things that aren't going so great for him. He is a big lying liar who lies, and while lying about whether you ever worked at Goldman Sachs isn't a crime, some of the lies Santos told could have legal consequences. We talk this week about problems that could arise from statements he made to the government about his finances, or from the manner in which he funded his campaign, and about how prosecutors will go about figuring out whether any of his lies were crimes. Plus: Sam Bankman-Fried, who's out of Bahamian prison and confined to his parents' home in Palo Alto, California, is fortunate to be out on bail. Two of his top lieutenants (Caroline Ellison and Gary Wang) have pleaded guilty and agreed to cooperate in his prosecution. In theory, his trial is scheduled for October, and we also talked about whether — if he doesn't eventually change his plea to guilty himself — it will be in his interest to hurry to trial or seek to delay and delay. Finally, a spat between cartoonists. Dilbert creator Scott Adams has threatened to sue right-wing political cartoonist Ben Garrison for drawing a cartoon that suggested Anthony Fauci had hypnotized him into getting vaccinated for COVID. Can a cartoon be defamatory? Maybe. But this one isn't.Visit serioustrouble.show to sign up for our newsletter, find links and transcripts and support the show. This is a public episode. Ben Garrison is an American cartoonist who is heavily censored and hated by the establishment, which means that his work is over the target and worth following. Political cartoons are like a societal thermometer because they gauge the temperature of the zeitgeist. As the heat increases, so does the censorship. Full description here. Join our community here.
Hospice is the third studio album by American indie rock band The Antlers, and their first concept album. It was initially self-distributed by the band in March 2009. Hospice tells the story of a relationship between a hospice worker and a female patient suffering from terminal bone cancer, their ensuing romance, and their slow downward spiral. Y'all already know what it is. Digressions: unironically cool Ben Garrison, Athena problematic, the Clodia/Lesbia debate, and COVID grifting.

This is an important episode. 2022 you needs to realise what 2020 you could not and what 2030 you is ready to tell you. Confused? You will be. On this episode we tackle two gurus that we have treated separately: James Lindsay of New Discourses (episode 2) and Michael O'Fallon of Sovereign Nations (episode 13). O'Fallon hasn't changed much from our episode analysing him, aside from starting a conspiracy laden daily news show. But James... well... judge for yourself. On this episode you will learn many amazing facts, including how feminist glaciology is at the core of the Great Reset, that the NFL is now the Critical Race Football league, and how what 'it' is really all about is making people into pets who are driven by AI cars and eat bugs. For this excursion, Chris and Matt are joined for the second time by Aaron Rabinowtiz, host of Embrace the Void (@ETVPod) and Philosophers in Space podcasts, PhD student, and lecturer at Rutgers University. This means we have now had two back to back episodes with philosophers... and we really can't apologise enough. This week, we're joined by friends of the show Mattie (@Lubchansky), associate editor at The Nib, to talk about the history of webcomics, comic artists and writers having to think about being content creators before the rest of us did, and what happens when comic panels end up being cut out of the strip, decontextualised and turned into memes without attribution. How are comics writers dealing with the content economy, think about their place in it, and, crucially, what are they doing to resist its worst effects? We also talk about some of our favourite webcomics, and try to get to the bottom of why Ben Garrison draws Trump like that. -------- Read and purchase Matties work here: https://thenib.com/author/mattie-lubchansky/ -------- Ten Thousand Posts is a show about how everything is posting. INTRO POETRY: Buenas Noches you marvelous scums, you beautiful bastards, blind, deaf, and dumb. Blind to the red flags, deaf to the truth, unwilling to speak up for our meek and our youth. The Commies have won, subverting generations, infiltrating Big Tech, product placing Game Stations, Facebook ads, Hollyweird, the entire educational system. What are we gonna do to fight against it? What can I do to make it hurt when I hits them? Perhaps I’ll grab a mic, and a laptop, and a pen, and a pair of headphones, like a Tommy gun, this is a fight til the end. He loves to draw Hillary's butt. He's a libertarian who just happens to draw trump like he's a biblical figure with a young athlete's body. He got retweeted by Kylie Jenner because he's anti-vaxx. His images were tweaked by neo-nazis to create surprisingly effective memes. Which have in turn been retweeted by Ron Paul. He got invited and then disinvited from the White House social media summit. It involves Mike Cernovich. Alex Jones keeps inviting him on. It's just... a mess. And a fun episode. On this episode of Fault Lines, hosts Garland Nixon and Lee Stranahan discuss the upcoming "vote of no-confidence" facing Theresa May after her Brexit deal was rejected yesterday in the House of Commons. How much longer will May hold on as Prime Minister, and how will the United Kingdom's relationship with the European Union evolve moving forward? Guests:Ted Rall - Political Cartoonist & Syndicated Columnist | Are DC Democrats and Republicans Two Sides of the Same Coin?Austin Petersen - Business Owner and Former Candidate for US Senate in Missouri | The Unending Shutdown and Which Democrat(s) CAN Win in 2020Ben Garrison - Independent Political Cartoonist | Political Cartoonist Takes on Democrats and the Government ShutdownWhile Republicans and Democrats are constantly rebuking each other in public, reality suggests that the two major parties actually agree on many major issues including foreign policy and defense spending. Political cartoonist and syndicated columnist Ted Rall joins the show to discuss what Washington DC-based Democrats and Republicans have in common, and why they oftentimes appear to lack ideological commitment on issues that the public finds important. As the government shutdown continues to endure, the question lingers of whether President Trump or Congressional Democrats will blink first to end the current standoff. Former Senate candidate Austin Petersen returns to the program to talk about how he sees the shutdown coming to a close and to get his early thoughts on the 2020 Presidential race. About PELICAN POINT After inheriting a crumbling lighthouse, Dr. Ben Garrison is more than ready to get rid of it until he meets a determined Marci Weber who wants to save the landmark. Can she make him see her point of view? A crumbling lighthouse is not part of the inheritance Army doctor Ben Garrison expects to claim when he journeys to Hope Harbor. Fresh out of the service, he wants only to unload the tower of bricks, decompress from years of treating battlefield trauma, and prepare to launch his civilian career. Hope Harbor Herald editor Marci Weber has other ideas. She may not be a Hope Harbor native, but the small Oregon seaside town has become home--and she's determined to save the Pelican Point landmark. Sparks fly as the two go head to head over the fate of the lighthouse. But when they start to cooperate, a different kind of fire ignites. And as they work together, might Hope Harbor heal the hearts of these two romance-wary souls? Bestselling author Irene Hannon invites readers back to their favorite town for a story that will light a beacon of hope within their hearts.
