It's that time again, we have to get on to our yearly lists, but before we dive in there, we thought we better touch on the movies we haven't covered, because we don't want people thinking we just didn't see the films that pop up on other people's lists... or that got nominated for things... or won things. We're checking boxes as fast as we can and running though films this week, and you may be surprised to learn which films we need to highlight (because they probably won't be on our Best List)
We talk with Jeff Galli, the General Manager and co-owner of Campione, a roman kitchen that was named to the New York Time's 50 Best Restaurants in the U.S. list in 2023, and was the first restaurant in the state to receive that sort of national attention. In this episode we explore the philosophy that underpins Jeff's exceptional approach to hospitality; his background in food and beverage; and the founding of Campione Roman Kitchen, We also discuss restrooms, tile floors, and the yellow bitter conundrum, so this episode has a little something for everyone. If you're a list maker, note taker, or a to-do guru then you KNOW that if it's not on a list, it ain't happ'nin. So then why oh why does everyone get all weird when we bring up the topic of Vision Boards? …is it maybe because they have been turned into this big scary expectation of happily ever after or else? Or maybe it's because no one ever told you how you are actually supposed to use the damn thing. In this episode we talk about how to unlock the magic of your vision boards so you can fully unlock them as the powerful tool they are (hint: you just move ‘em around) Ps. it's not “magic,” it's nueroscience that makes so much sense. This episode features Jane Lopes, an accomplished wine professional who was born in Napa, California and graduated from the University of Chicago with a degree in Renaissance literature and a love for food, wine, and spirits. After college, Jane began to pick up shifts at nationally acclaimed cocktail bar, The Violet Hour, and in August of 2011, Jane moved to Nashville to be the opening beverage director at The Catbird Seat. In 2013, Jane worked as a sommelier at Eleven Madison Park in NY, where she was part of the team that got the restaurant to number one on the San Pellegrino World's 50 Best List. In 2017, she was recruited to run the beverage program at Attica, widely considered Australia's best restaurant. In September of 2018, Jane passed the prestigious Master Sommelier exam, becoming the only woman in Australia to do so. Her first book, an educational and personal guide to the world of wine, was published in September of 2019. In 2020, Jane returned to the United States to start her own wine imports company with her husband, Jonathan Ross. Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for January 5, 2024 is: accolade AK-uh-layd noun Accolade refers to an award or expression of praise. It is often used in the plural form. // The movie's special effects have drawn accolades from both fans and critics. See the entry > Examples: "'It is a tremendous honor to be mentioned on the extended World's 50 Best List,' says Executive Chef Lee, who later tells us that it wasn't necessarily one of their immediate goals, making the tremendous accolade quite the surprise. 'I am extremely grateful that we are getting attention on the world stage and I am so happy that the team here at Saison gets the recognition for their hard work.'" — Chelsea Davis, Forbes, 29 Nov. 2023 Did you know? Give credit where credit is due: it's time to celebrate accolade for its centuries of laudatory service. Accolade joined English in the 16th century from the Middle French noun acolade, which in turn comes from the verb accoler, meaning "to embrace." When it was first borrowed from French, accolade referred to a ceremonial embrace that formally conferred knighthood. The term was later extended to other ceremonial acts conferring knighthood (such as the familiar touching of the shoulders with the flat part of a sword's blade), and then to other ceremonies marking the recognition of a special merit, distinction, or achievement. Today it refers more broadly to an award or expression of praise.

As many kids start school, there is still plenty of summer to go as we talk about soaring service department numbers. We also talk about Penske taking an early victory lap regarding the best places to work list, as well as an interesting development in ChatGPT's ability to do math. Show Notes with links:With consumers keeping their cars longer due to affordability and availability issues, the six largest publicly traded groups are reporting an 8.2% increase in YoY sales logging $3.9 B in revenue. AutoNation reports a 9.1% first half increase of same store sales as CEO Mike Manley credits a large existing customer base who know the AutoNation brand, extensive service bay and technician capacity and customers keeping and servicing their vehicles longer.Lithia is up 5.8% for the quarter and COO Chris Holzshu made similar comments in a recent investor call, “With the average age of vehicles rising, coupled with the increasing complexity of new vehicles, our team of certified, factory-trained technicians are working hard to deliver on the massive demand for services from our customers,” he says.Penske 10.7, Sonic 8.9, Asbury 6.2, Group 1 reported 9 consecutive quarters of growthPenske Automotive Group is taking an early victory lap as they announce a significant achievement as 44 of its dealerships are named among the Best Dealerships to Work for in 2023 by Automotive News. The annual list, now in its 12th year, recognizes top dealerships nationwide for their exceptional work environments and community engagementFor inclusion on the list, dealerships undergo a thorough nomination procedure. Selection of winners hinges on feedback from employee surveys, active community participation, and deliberate actions to convey gratitude and acknowledgment in the workplace. The full list will be released in October. Is ChatGPT getting dumber? This is a question asked in a WSJ article as the groundbreaking language model has become worse at performing certain basic math operations, according to new research by Stanford University and UC Berkeley. The research tested two versions of ChatGPT, 3.5 and 4.0, and found that the latter's accuracy in identifying prime numbers dropped from 84% to 51% between March and June.Six out of eight tasks saw worsening performance in the newer version, while the older version showed improvement in six areas but still remained less capable in most tasks. The article implies that "prompt engineering" can induce drift in AI models. In attempts to prevent inappropriate AI responses, developers may inadvertently impair the AI's capabilities in areas like math problem-solving.Hosts: Paul J Daly and Kyle MountsierGet the Daily Push Back email at https://www.asotu.com/ JOIN the conversation on LinkedIn at: https://www.linkedin.com/company/asotu/ Read our most recent email at: https://www.asotu.com/media/push-back-email ASOTU Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/automotivestateoftheunion
