The relentless pull and pressure of partisan antagonisms and tribalism have fractured friendships, families, communities — and churches. In a time of conflict over what is good and confusion over what is true, what can church leaders do to cultivate a more faithful form of civic engagement? How can we learn to discern the call to love and justice amidst the clamor of political wars?On our latest podcast, three wise men, as Cherie affectionately calls them, address these pressing questions. Curtis Chang, David French, and Russell Moore are each writers, scholars, and thinkers who have made courageous and insightful contributions towards a better Christian politics and we're delighted to share their comments from an evening conversation in 2023 with you:“Be of great hope. Because the after party is coming…It's the wedding feast of the lamb when Jesus returns to cleanse his church, made spotless. And in that moment, the restoration not of the church, but of the world at war where the swords are beaten into plowshares, the spears into pruning hooks. That's the after party that's coming. So if you know how the story ends, how can we not have great hope? - Curtis ChangThis podcast is an edited version of an evening conversation recorded in early 2023. In this episode, special guest Tracy shares her experience as a Christian who happens to be gay. When Tracy “came out,” she struggled to reconcile her sexuality with her belief in Christ. Like many, she was raised to believe that homosexuality and Christianity were incompatible and yet, both existed in her very person. Tracy dove into Bible study and she found that when she was honest about who she was created to be, her relationship with God only grew deeper and stronger. This is an engaging, and deeply personal, testimony about one person's realization that God made her, accepted her, and loved her, even when the church tried to convince her otherwise. Immigration is always a contentious issue in America, as well as in the evangelical church. In an election year and with the current crisis at the border, that is especially true right now. And while Christians have a rich history of caring for marginalized people, including refugees and immigrants, the current political climate has caused distrust or even disdain for migrants to creep into the church. On this episode, we seek to develop a theology of immigration by looking at what the Bible has to say about immigrants. It may surprise you how often the topic arises! Then we dive into to some of the specific policy concerns that are driving the conversation today—not so much to give you an "answer" or tell you how to vote, but to set the rules of engagement for Christians seeking to advocate for immigration policies that are both compassionate and effective. Do political conversations leave you feeling like a 'combatant', a 'cynic' or just 'exhausted'? Are you a 'disappeared one' or do you have 'disappeared ones' that were a part of your life? Curtis Chang provides a roadmap to become a 'disciple' – Hopeful and humble. In today's episode, we welcome Curtis Chang, who's been on this program previously, to discuss The After Party, a timely, much-needed new project he launched with Dr. Russell Moore, David French and Nancy French. We dove deep into the concept of Christian politics, conspiracy theories, and the impact of societal divides on personal relationships. Curtis shared his thoughts around the need for a new approach to politics in the church, as well as a method for Christians to engage in political conversations without damaging relationships. We explored Scripture, such as the differing political identities between Matthew the Tax Collector and Simon the Zealot, and examined how they managed to come together for a greater cause. (And for what it's worth, Tax Collectors and Zealots of the 1st Century make today's Republicans and Democrats look like besties!) Curtis explained a four-quadrant model that categorized Christians in politics as Combatants, Exhausted, Cynics, or Disciples. The goal of the program they created, The After Party, he said, is to move people towards the Disciple quadrant where both hope and humility are high. Corey also opens up about some personal experiences with harsh political divides and recounted how meaningful face-to-face reconciliations had been. Curtis encouraged listeners to take The After Party course and put humane relationship and engagement back into the church's approach to politics. What's the key to being an effective apologist today? We need more apologists in the church who can equip and reach people where they are at. In this discussion with Dr. Sean McDowell, J. Warner discusses the best strategies for defending the faith today.
S3: Ep. 11 - How To Become A Better Christian: 10 Changes To Make In Your Life Read your Bible daily. Do not be content to skim through a chapter merely to satisfy your conscience. Hide the Word of God in your heart. It comforts, guides, corrects, encourages – all we need is there. Learn the secret of prayer. Prayer is communicating. Every prayer that you pray will be answered. Sometimes that answer may be “Yes” and sometimes “No,” and sometimes it is “Wait,” but nevertheless it will be answered. Rely constantly on the Holy Spirit. We know that the Holy Spirit prays for us (Romans 8), and what a comfort that should be to the weakest of us. Stand aside and let Him take over all the choices and decisions of your life. Attend church regularly. The visible church is Christ's organization upon earth. Christians need one another, we need to gather together to worship God and nothing can take the place of church attendance. Be a witnessing Christian. We witness in two ways: by life and by word – and the two, where possible, should go hand in hand. Let love be the ruling principle of your life. Jesus said to those who followed Him, “By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another” (John 13:35). The greatest demonstration of the fact that we are Christians is that we love one another. Be an obedient Christian. Let Christ have first place in all the choices of your life. Learn how to meet temptation. Temptation is not sin. It is yielding that is sin. Let Christ through the Holy Spirit do the fighting for you. Be a wholesome Christian. Our lives and appearance should commend the Gospel and make it attractive to others. Live above your circumstances. Don't let your circumstances get you down. Learn to live graciously within them, realizing the Lord Himself is with you. Thank you for choosing to worship with us here at Brighterside Church Today! We look forward to welcoming you again soon, Put God first, and we will see you again soon! --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/austin-bender1/support

Elena from Turkey asks Jesse how to be a better Christian. She asks about praying. She says she prays out loud so her husband can see the right way. Jesse encourages her to stop doing all that because she can't make herself or her husband a better Christian. Ruben from NYC reflects on his relationship with stress and God. — Back to Ruben… he reveals how he used to get mad at random white women on the street. He finds now that those things do not bother him anymore. He also answers the biblical question. He used to think 'God only helps people who help themselves'. Chandler from Seattle, WA forgave his mother but he is still smoking pot and other vices. Ron from Texas
In this blast from the past, J. Warner talks with Frank Turek about several strategies to become a better “one dollar apologist”. Jim teaches at Frank's CrossExamined Instructor's Academy (CIA) and has learned several important principles related to becoming a better Christian Case Maker.
As we stand at the beginning of a new year we have lots of opportunities, possibilities, and hope for the year that is in front of us. Rev. Tom takes this Sunday to look at a good, positive change that we could all strive for in 2023 - to be a better Christian. In particular, what if we all strived to be more like Jesus this year? How would your life be different? How could your family, community, church, and nation be different? In the ned, it's all about putting yourself in a position for God to make the changes you need in this new year.

Where do great song ideas come from? Are they crouching behind bushes just out of sight like crafty little leprechauns or hidden under rocks like salamanders waiting for you to turn them over to discover them buried there? Actually, neither is the case. While it may seem like song ideas are deliberately hiding from you, they're actually happening around (and within) you every day, all day long, 365 days a year. You just need to know how to spot them. In our NCS Pro Song Mastery Course, I teach songwriters that you have a lot more control over your innate creativity than you might think. With the right skills, you can begin to spot ideas so quickly and easily that your title list will be brimming with song ideas queuing up and screaming to be written. If you're ready to take the next step in your songwriting career, hop on the phone with us for a free no-hassle breakthrough call and we'll point you in the right direction. Maybe NCS coaching is your next "right" step to becoming the songwriter you are called to be! Darren Mulligan of We Are Messengers talks about wishing he was a better Christian, how forgiveness made him fall in love with Jesus, what his wife is teaching him, and a moment from his childhood he wants to turn into a song.
Pastor Bryan continues our series called A Better (Fill in the Blank) by filling in the word, "Christian." We look at three pointers from the Apostle Paul on how we can live out the fruit of the spirit and impact our world for the better. Galatians 5:22-25
This is a statement I saw on an online forum recently. And it got me because, well, I've been there. I've felt that way myself. When I first became a Christian, I wondered: How good of a Christian do I need to be? How do I best please God? --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/simplechristians/support

It's a sad thing to know that many Christians believed in a lie that if you are spiritual enough and that you have enough faith then it will guarantee you a life of blessings free from trouble and difficulties. And so if you find yourself in difficulties and trouble, you then conclude that it's because you don't have enough faith and you aren't obedient enough as a Christian. This is one of the paralyzing lies that preachers preach to manipulate and control Christians to do their bidding wishes. It's time to expose this deceit and uncover the liberating truth of Scriptures this coming Sunday. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/growpoint-davao/support
A core belief of Christianity is helping other people. But how can we do that to become a better disciple of Jesus? Find out on today's episode of Changing. Be anxiously engaged in a good cause. Anxious, in this case, means excitement and eagerness for a cause. Engage in something bigger than yourself, like sharing the gospel, serving in the military, or even donating time or money to a charitable organization. Working for a cause bigger than you benefits humanity. After all, the goal isn't to help you but to help others. Moroni 7:47- Charity is the pure love of Christ. The book Preach My Gospel, a manual for people doing missionary work, words it well, reminding people to avoid judging or criticizing actions and to understand the point of view of others instead. It is in Matthew 22:36-39 that Jesus says the most important commandment is to love God and to love people. It's a mandate and a commandment that we should strive to obey. How can you help those around you? Minister to those you're assigned and serve your responsibilities at church. Read scripture to someone, or offer to drive people to church. Tutor and help others with their goals. Index with the Church of Latter-Day Saints. Call someone and check in on them, or visit them if it's safe to do so. Trust the youth and give them the responsibility. Visit JustServe.org to find volunteer opportunities in your community. We're all Changing in our pursuit to live a Christlike life, and we're here to help you walk this path. Today's Bible study discussion was prompted by a listener named Isabella, who wrote in to ask about becoming a better Christian. Isabella feels she is too focused on worldly things and doesn't do enough for the Lord. She wants to overcome some of her struggles with sin. She fears she has been lazy and disobedient. So obviously the hosts of YCSTIC have already attained full sanctification. But suppose for a minute we actually had flaws. This episode is a thought experiment based on the idea that we have quote unquote "flaws". We dive right into the common pitfalls with legalism, behavior modification, and bearing the fruits of the spirit. What does it mean to grow in the lord? How do we measure it? The 3 guys try to back up everything we say with scripture and the rest we will throw in for free because we're nice guys.
This morning we'll be looking at two groups of people in the Bible. Both are having a “frustrated religious experience.” The motivation of this sermon is just to remind us of some basic principles. Isaiah 58 & 59 – This group of people was not doing well, but they are described as seeking God daily […] The post A Better Christian Experience appeared first on Bethel Mennonite Church.

John Vervaeke had a terrific conversation with Nick and the first question came up about John Vervaeke's relationship with Christianity. The answer was fascinating. But the context for the questions and the answers is even more fascinating. Why does Jesus have such a good reputation in our culture? Why would non-Christians call others who don't necessarily identify as Christians as being the best Christians they know?
