A abadia do Mont-Saint-Michel, na Normandia, no noroeste da França, acolhe até 16 de novembro a obra "Marulho", do artista brasileiro Cildo Meireles. A exibição integra a programação da temporada França-Brasil 2025. Daniella Franco, enviada especial da RFI ao Mont-Saint-Michel A instalação imersiva, que pertence à coleção do Centro Nacional de Artes Plásticas da França, foi criada em 1991 e simula uma paisagem marítima por meio de cinco mil fotografias dispostas no chão. Erguida no refeitório dos monges, a obra também é composta por um deck de madeira que convida o público a flutuar sobre esse oceano de papel, ao som de uma trilha sonora em que a palavra "água" é pronunciada em 30 línguas. Mais de 30 anos após a sua concepção, "Marulho" continua extremamente atual, considerada uma obra política e poética, segundo o curador da temporada França-Brasil 2025, Emilio Kalil, presente na inauguração do evento. "Cildo nunca esqueceu do entorno dele, dos problemas não só brasileiros como mundiais. Então a gente vê nessa obra uma reflexão sobre o mar, que hoje é tema principal dos grandes debates internacionais, mas também o problema dos imigrantes, nossos vizinhos que de repente são rejeitados. As vozes fazem nos sentir dentro desse marulho", diz. O imponente trabalho deste, que é um dos maiores nomes da arte contemporânea do Brasil, foi instalado no interior da abadia do Mont-Saint-Michel, um dos monumentos mais visitados da França e Patrimônio Mundial da Unesco. Para a presidente do Centro dos Monumentos Nacionais da França, Marie Lavandier a exposição é um encontro de gigantes. "'Marulho' foi instalada no refeitório da abadia do Mont-Saint-Michel, um espaço majestoso. À medida que avançamos no deck em meio a esse oceano de fotografias de Cildo, nosso olhar vai encontrar as janelas do refeitório que se revelam uma após a outra. Então, essa é também a descoberta de uma obra de arte contemporânea e a redescoberta desta joia da arquitetura", explica. Obra chegou de helicóptero Oferecer esse belo espetáculo aos visitantes foi um grande desafio aos organizadores. As peças de madeira que compõem o deck tiveram que ser transportadas por um helicóptero até o topo da abadia, localizada em um rochedo rodeado pelo mar, a 80 metros acima do nível do oceano. Além disso, para posicionar todas as fotografias que representam as ondas, várias pessoas estiveram mobilizadas durante uma semana. Mas segundo a diretora do Centro Nacional das Artes Plásticas da França, Béatrice Salmon, a operação para a montagem de "Marulho", foi um esforço necessário, em nome das reflexões sobre o mar. "Acho que é preciso subir nesse deck, caminhar em meio às ondas, pensar que o Mont-Saint-Michel é rodeado pelo mar e imaginar que subitamente a água entrou na abadia para pensar sobre a importância dos oceanos ao nosso planeta". Salmon observa que o Mont-Saint-Michel está diante da Inglaterra, próximo ao Canal da Mancha, onde há anos migrantes arriscam suas vidas. "Esse mar também é um perigo para muitas pessoas, quando elas tentam atravessá-lo de um país a outro em condições dramáticas. São todas essas reflexões que essa obra permite", ressalta. "Marulho" não é o único trabalho de Cildo Meireles exposto na temporada França-Brasil 2025. Outra obra icônica do artista, "Cruzeiro do Sul", será exibida no espaço Orangerie, no Jardim de Luxemburgo, em Paris, de 3 a 14 de julho.

Every winter vacation, we take the girls away for a few days. The destination is kept secret until the last minute. This year, it was Mont Saint-Michel. Micaela found our destination when I gave the following clue: it's a controversial place. Indeed, we like to play around in France with the geographical location of Mont Saint-Michel. The Bretons like to say that it's in Brittany, whereas it's in Normandy, because the bay of Mont Saint-Michel lies between the two regions. When you arrive by car, you have to walk three-quarters of an hour to get to the Mont via a footbridge. It's a lovely walk. Then you have to climb a lot of steps to reach the abbey, where we had booked a visit. In the notes accompanying the transcript, we'll take a look at the pronunciation of the difficult words in this episode.
