All of the fragments are presented just as they were captured. Since frequency behavior is often unpredictable, and since the act of catching waves was done manually, the recordings capture all sorts of incidental sounds, including various kinds of static noise and radio interference.” (Aki Onda). I recorded various shortwave radio sounds at my apartment in Philadelphia, then edited and embellished it with synthesis and modulation using the Moog Modular III synthesizer at in the Temple Music School. I was a student of Paul Epstein at the time, and he asked several of us to join him for a performance on the WBAI Free Music Store, a program radio in NYC. I developed and sketched-out some vocal parts to sing along to the tape and Paul and my friend Ed Cohen joined me for the performance in NY. The lights were dim, the mood was quiet, and we soared along on the sounds on this piece over the airwaves. A recording of that radio broadcast exists somewhere in my storage but for this instance I present the tape piece alone. 24:53. Glasgow-based @miltonjackson (real name Barry Christie) released his first EP aged 18 on @tronicsole way back in 2001. An album for @glasgowunderground entitled "The Bionic Boy" was released in 2001. Romanthony was such a big fan of the 3rd single ‘Dimensional’ that he asked to remix it, a huge honour for Milton. After the success of "Bionic Boy" and the accompanying live tour (taking in venues like @rexclub in Paris), EPs were completed for the likes of Black Vinyl, Bear Trax (Milton’s own label) and Omid 16B’s Alola (@sexonwax). Milton even worked with a young Mylo on their ‘Pretty Boys’ project. In 2006 a new relationship was formed with @jimpster’s @freerangerecords and saw collaborations with fellow deep house don @shurikan. 2009 was topped off with a win in the DJ Awards in the Deep House category. Milton picked up his award at Pacha in Ibiza alongside the likes of @petetong, @lucianocadenza and Sven Vath. Moving into the 2010s Milton remixed Recloose for Carl Craig’s (@planetedetroit) Planet E and turned in big remixes for Joey Negro’s (@daveleezr) Z Records, 8 Bit and Jef K’s hit “In My System” on Silver Network. He also released "Breathe" on Neurotraxx records. A new collaboration with Munich’s SHOW-B called “Pattern Select” saw the pair release a critically acclaimed EP on @delusionsofgrandeur and a remix for @huxley_uk imprint @saints-n-sonnets. 2012 saw no let up for Milton as he continued to DJ worldwide and release for Freerange (new track DSI), @tsuba vinyl imprint and Black Key Records. 2013 saw Milton take a break from house music after the birth of his children and after an 18 month layoff he returned to Kevin Griffiths’ Tsuba label with his ‘Your Love’ EP. Your love received many plaudits with @traxsource claiming: "Milton Jackson returns and it’s worth the wait!" Milton also recorded a special track for Freerange’s 20th anniversary boxset release called "Songs Without Words". In 2020, 20 years after his first release Milton is still releasing quality EPs - a new 4 tracker for @rawax-chiwax-housewax imprint Housewax was released, plus he has been recording further material with his old partner in music, Shur-i-kan and @matt-masters plus a new solo EP for Freerange. Overall throughout his career Milton has around 60 releases to his name, 2 albums and notched up over 100 remixes, not to mention appearing on hundreds of compilations around the world. But how did you meet each other, and how did you manage to combine both roots for a joint project? A: We met in Madrid, our home town, over 22 years ago, time flies! Pablo was a young producer and used to bring me his first demos to the night club, where I (Chus) was the resident DJ. Two years after we had the chance to met in person for the first time, there was the coincidence that we quit working with our old studio partners, and we decided to gave us a try. Our musical backgrounds were different as you can listen to on these mixtapes, but from the very first moment in the studio, the magic happened. Some of the top record labels in the world at that moment were right away interested in releasing our music, labels such as Black Vinyl, Hooj Choons, NRK, Yoshitoshi, Shinichi, Nervous Records or Twisted America, to name but a few. We can say that we couldn't expect such a fantastic welcome to what we called the 'Iberican Sound' and here we are 20 years later! Q: Corona crisis is currently hitting us all hard, everyone in a different but also same way. How do you spend your days at the moment? A: We have our studios at home, that's a blessing on these quarantine times. We try to follow a daily routine, working a lot in new music and collaboration projects for our label Stereo Productions and also other ones but without forgetting our mental and physical health. Meditating and exercising every day, trying to be as healthy as possible. Communicating with the people we love, family, and friends has been crucial these days. The only way to go over all of this is together as a community. The music industry needs to go back on its feet as soon as this nightmare ends. Q: Which future projects are on the way? A: We are taking advantage of these no-traveling days, making a lot of music, and focusing on our upcoming album. As soon as these exceptional times end, we'll be back on track, to continue celebrating the 20th anniversary of Chus & Ceballos and Stereo Productions. We started in our home town Madrid then visit Chile and Costa Rica. We hope to begin traveling soon and visit Miami, New York, Chicago, Washington, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Vegas, Barcelona, Mexico, Athens, Lima, Buenos Aires, and Tokyo to complete the STEREO2020 Tour. We are also working on a TV documentary and an extraordinary music release and many other surprises to celebrate this great 20 years together, stay tuned.
