Ever had that moment when you realized you needed glasses for the first time or found yourself relying on coffee just to get through the day? This episode is an honest exploration of the Hip Hop genre's 50-year milestone and the aging of its trailblazers. We contrast the often negative views of aging in American society with biblical teachings that celebrate growing older as part of the path to wisdom and spiritual growth. Our discussion navigates the complex intergenerational dynamics within hip hop, examining how older artists strive to stay relevant instead of embracing maturity. We touch on the disconnect between maintaining a youthful image and the respect that should accompany age, highlighting timeless virtues like self-control and dignity. As we reflect on the beauty of aging with grace and wisdom, we suggest that aging can add meaningful depth to our lives. The episode wraps up with a hopeful prayer for aging gracefully to the glory of God, encouraging you to embrace your journey with dignity and grace. In this episode, we reflect on the continual learning and relearning essential for a vibrant spiritual life. From the importance of Bible reading and prayer to the vital role of church involvement, we discuss how life's trials and busyness can cause these practices to gradually wane. Maintaining them is crucial for spiritual health. We share practical insights on integrating the spiritual and secular aspects of life, prioritizing communion with God, and starting each day in His presence. Drawing inspiration from Jesus' early morning prayers, we illustrate how adopting such habits can deeply enrich one's walk with the Lord. We also look at how the natural world's inherent rhythms are part of God's design and how routines teach us to seek nourishment and joy from Him continually. Unlike physical hunger, neglecting spiritual disciplines can lead to a diminished sense of need for God— even an increased appetite for worldly things, fostering a false sense of self-sufficiency. Conversely, consistently tapping into the means of grace, such as prayer and scripture, can increase our spiritual hunger and desire for God. Ultimately, spiritual disciplines are not mere obligations but opportunities to grow closer to God and delight in His presence. In the early 2000's, the unlikely alliance between predominantly White Reformed evangelicals and the African American Christian hip-hop community shattered conventional church norms. Together, they embarked on a bold experiment to model unity in Christ across ethnic lines. Yet these partnerships faced multifaceted challenges. The optimism of the early 2000s gradually dissolved into frustration, significant fragmentation and disillusionment. This was largely fueled by the varying responses to the backdrop of ethnic tension in our culture. We dissect the painful yet crucial conversations that these tensions provoked within multi-ethnic congregations. And seek to offer an honest look at the relational strife that emerged, stressing the urgency for a reset and a renewed commitment to love and understanding. Our conversation delves into historical perspectives and the power of viewing each other through the gospel and New Creation lenses. Reflecting on figures like Martin Luther King Jr. and contrasting with Malcolm X's approach, we discuss the importance of rejecting demonization of others and bearing witness to God's kingdom. In this episode, we navigate the emotional journey of fatherhood, from the initial excitement of expecting a child to the overwhelming sense of responsibility that comes with it. I share my personal story of preparing for the birth of my first child, reflecting on my own upbringing without a father figure and the anxiety that ensued. My friends Ben and Duce also share their own experiences — both the good and the difficult. Reflecting on our fathers' influence, we discuss the balance of discipline and love that shaped our upbringing and how it has informed how we father our own children. We also explore the elements of fatherhood and parenting that are needed to raise a godly generation. There is a critical importance of understanding fatherhood through scripture rather than cultural norms so we highlight how earthly fatherhood reflects God's design — we, as earthly fathers, have the privilege and responsibility to mirror God's fatherhood. And by God's grace we will be faithful to model that incredible reality. What happens when you reach the midpoint of your life and look around to realize you didn't know who your true friends were anymore? In this episode, I share my personal journey of navigating the complexities of male friendships post-40, exploring why it's so challenging to establish new bonds at this stage in life. Through reflections on life events, social media influences, and political differences, Ben, Duce and I discuss the reasons behind so many broken relationships. We discuss how men are socialized to prioritize activities over genuine emotional connections, often leading to superficial, transactional friendships. We also hit the value of meaningful friendships within Christian communities — emphasizing the importance of finding a close-knit group of true friends who share the bond of Christ. Moreover, we underline the role of the local church in fostering these connections. Christ during His time on earth modeled what genuine friendship looks like and we want to encourage you to seek for and endure in brotherly bonds that sharpen and encourage you in the Lord. On this episode, I introduce the concept of the "Christo Urbanite," a term that perfectly encapsulates individuals who are immersed in urban hip-hop culture but are transformed by a profound Christian faith. We discuss how iconic albums like Illmatic and hip-hop pioneers like Run DMC coupled with a faith in Jesus Christ led to a synthesis that became the catalyst for the Christian Hip-Hop (CHH) movement of the early 2000's — a pivotal period that shaped today's fusion of faith and beats. We tackle the nuances of teaching our kids to view hip-hop through a Christ-centered lens and balancing cultural identity with theological integrity. Sharing personal stories and reflections, we talk about the long-standing conversation on integrating faith with hip-hop, emphasizing the diverse community of urbanites who have embraced this blend. Caring for my mother in the aftermath of her stroke was a crucible that birthed a shift in my perspective on life. The difficulties of that season demanded I consider what I truly valued as I entered the “midpoint” of my life — my halftime. On the Halftime Pod I'll be joined by my good friends Ben Otero and William “Duce” Branch — old friends with a wealth of wisdom. We will explore what it means to be 'Christo-Urbanites' at life's midpoint. And we're not just waxing nostalgic about our early days in Christian hip hop; we're dissecting the teachings of the Bible, contemplating the finite nature of our time here, and the intentional steps we must take as we tiptoe into the second act of our lives. It takes courage to own your story, especially for trauma survivors. Jessie Roth shows us, in this episode, the power of storytelling, showing up as your full self with the multiple roles and identities you hold and why it's important to intentionally straddle frameworks to re-story your experiences as a form of healing. As the director of The Institute for the Development of Human Arts, she's also a master at facilitating cross-movement knowledge building at the intersections of mental health and social justice. Jessie and I also discuss: how to advocate as a family member of someone with mental health concerns why “being a voice for the voiceless” gets a lot wrong about autonomy and decision-making in mental health what it means to “decarcerate mental health care” and why it's crucial Jessie Roth is a writer and movement organizer with more than a decade of experience at the intersection of mental health and social justice. She is the Director of the Institute for the Development of Human Arts (IDHA), a transformative mental health training institute bringing together mental health workers, peers, survivors, activists, artists, and other advocates for education and community development. Our guest this week is recording artist, author, and podcaster Brady Goodwin Jr., otherwise known as Phanatik! Brady was a member of one of the best Christian hip hop groups ever, The Cross Movement. Brady made headlines last year when he publicly stated that he was no longer a Christian. His new book, “Let There Be Gaslight: Does the Bible Tell the Truth About Our Creation, Fall, and Redemption?” caused quite a stir, and has prompted a big response from the Christian community (just take a look at the response videos on YouTube). We were thrilled to talk with Brady about his musical career, academic pursuits, and his eventual deconstruction! You can find his book on Amazon, and follow him on Instagram (@phanatik_of_cm), Facebook (facebook.com/brady.p.goodwin), and Twitter (@Phanatik).

Former Christian/Rap Artist Phanatik of Cross Movement, Brady Goodwin, has a new movement away from the cross and has released his book, "Let There Be Gaslight," a critique of the Bible as the word of God. In his mind, he makes a strong case that it's a bunch of lies. Did he make a strong case, though? Let's talk about it… Christcentric.com Abnersbrush.com Curtkennedy.com

Recently, I was listening to a post by Ambassador of Cross Movement and it was concerning the rapper known as Phanatik, who was also part of Cross Movement. It was disheartening to hear, because of what he represented to the culture of Christian Hip Hop, but nonetheless it is what it is. In this episode, I am addressing the issue of turning one's back on their relationship with Yeshua (Jesus). This is not a podcast of condemnation, but one of enlightenment and hope for restoration and return back to the Way, the Truth and the Life. #Phanatik #PneuPneumaGodcast #NormanBrown #FallingAway #Rapper #Jesus #Cristiano #Dios #bible #God #wordliferadio #prayer #christian #podcast #KevinSamuels Please, give us a 5-Star rating and leave an Inspirational comment, if you are an Apple Podcast listener. In recent allegations, published by Rapzilla on January 31, 2022, the music artist known as Gawvi, has been said to have been sending pictures of his genital to women, who are not his wife. Instead of admitting to these actions, Gawvi has decided, as of this moment, to deny anything happening and has been trying to get people to dismiss what he is calling rumors. Following these reports, he was released from Reach Records. At this time it is not clear what his plans are, outside of divorcing his wife, with no grounds, as far as the information received thus far, and not making any statements about repentance, humility, sadness and more. The Bible tells us in Luke 18:14 "every one that exalts himself shall be abased; and he that humbles himself shall be exalted. The Bible also shows in First Peter 5: 5-6 "Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resists the proud, and gives grace to the humble. Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time." As the days go on we shall see if Gawvi is humble or prideful. In this podcast episode, I will break down some things for us to learn lessons from this situation. Also, I want it to be known that this is not a podcast of condemnation, but of hope for restoration: restoration of Gawvi's marriage and his relationship with the Lord growing stronger. Stay tuned for next week's continuation of this podcast, when I discuss the situation with Phanatik, formerly of Cross Movement in Episode 154. In this episode, Pastor Los and Wayne discuss the announcement that Brady Goodwin (Phanatik of Cross Movement) recently, admitting that he has left the Christian faith. Is this apostasy? What are our thoughts? When we texted Brady behind the scenes about it, what did he have to say about it? How should the church handle this? And so much more!
Last week two prominent Christian rappers made statements that shook up the American Christian world. Brady Godwin known as Phanatik of the Chrsitian rap group Cross Movement, says he sent a letter to his church withdrawing his membership and renouncing what he believed and shared for over 30 years. Grammy winning Christian rapper LeCrae wrote a tweet about leaving "politicized Christianity" that led to him losing a performance booking. While blacks are still the most religious group of Christians in America, many are beginning to deconstruct their faith or leave Christianity all together. How should pastors and church leaders address this burgeoning problem? Join Dr. Neal as he discusses this and other topics of the day.
Many of us who know and love CHH usually are familiar with Cross Movement. Cross Movement can be creditied with alot of the rappers who rap today. Well... Sadly one of the former members has rejected Christianity. #CrossMovement #Phanatik #ChristianRap Subscribe & click

During my early Christian years, I (trig) was blessed to bump into The Cross Movement by way of my brother-in-law, O-Diggity, subsequently enjoying watching them finish Heaven's Mentality and then getting engrossed in the Philadelphia and East-Coast CHH scene which included the early days of folks such as D.A. Truth, Everyday Process, Swift (formerly known as R-Swift), B.E.R.I.D.O.X., Judah Priest, Japhia Life, Carriers of the Cross, Corey Red and Precise, and many more. The Gospel Gangstaz is the first West Coast-based group that I (Trig) heard. They made an impression from the very song that caught my ear. During this interview, they share how they got started, their perspective on ministry, their love for sharing Christ with young men and women, the power of the relationships across the CHH Pioneers. About the Gospel Gangstaz Gospel Gangstaz is a Greater Los Angeles Area-based West Coast Christian hip hop group. What kind of beauty speaks to you? Music? The written word? Artwork? Film? What is it about that type of art that captures your imagination and speaks to you in the deepest way? On this episode of Where Ya From?, Brady Goodwin Jr (aka “Phanatik”) shares his story of becoming an influential rapper, and how his love for rhythm and rhyme led him to understand how hip hop has shaped the history and ethics of modern culture. Guest bio: Brady Goodwin Jr. (aka “Phanatik”) is a rapper, theologian, and teacher. He was a founding member of the group “The Cross Movement”--which was considered the east coast originators of Christian hiphop--and has gone on to create a culturally relevant ethics course titled: “Hip Hop History and Ethics.” Brady is an expert on rhythm and rhyme, and the historical impact of Hip Hop on cultures throughout the world. So this episode is of BARS OF ENCOURAGEMENT with my bro Bert Bocachica in NYC. Before there was ANYTHING big CHH there was RAPFEST in the boogie down! Bert's now the pastor of El Santuario back in the Bronx and I reached out to him to check in and see how he was doing. After we talked a bit he invited me to this ZOOM call he started doing where he checks in on CHH artists and they share and pray for each other. This is that episode. In this we have CHH artists Heesun Lee, Richard Dauphin, Eric E, DJ NuMAN, Brother E, Earthquake of Cross Movement fame, my partner on The Overflow Podcast; Joaquin and of course, Bert. Pray you're blessed and encouraged by this episode. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
So Episode 2 of the Spiritual Gas Mixshow aired on 29th of September 2007 on Gospel Impact Radio. A Christian rapper from the U.S. named President Chell wanted to do an intro tune for the mixshow and it was used for the first time in this episode. It turned to be intro tune for the mixshow even till the last show in 2012. This episode is a nice mixture of Christian Hip Hop and Christian R&B (R&P) and features a lot of classic songs by Da' T.R.U.T.H., Corey Red & Precise, Flame, Claude Deuce, Canton Jones, Deitrick Haddon, Cross Movement, Braille and many more! A true classic Spiritual Gas mix. God Bless you...
Doc Watson and Trig kick off the interview and discuss how their relationship started. Further, Doc shares his transition from the military to music production, mixtape, events, selling tracks, radio, his migration to Christian Hip-Hop, joining forces with Derek Minor (formerly known as Pro) and the birth of Christlike Entertainment (now Reflection Music Group). Trig shares his journey in secular music, his healthy confrontation with members of the Cross Movement and the enduring relationships that introduced him to CHH.
What NWA was to HIP HOP is what Cross Movement was for Christian Hip Hop. This group is what put CHH on the map. We John Wells aka "Earthquake" as he tells us how the group started and the state of CHH now. A MUST listen!!!!!
In 2007 I came in contact with a lot of Gospel DeeJays from the USA on MySpace. One of them was DJ Gospel Guru from Columbus Ohio. We connected for a while and decided to do a MixCD together which was handed out for free in the US and in the Netherlands. We both did a 30 minutes set and this was my part. In this mix you will hear my remix of Todd Bangz song Starz & Stripes and my famous blend of the Cross Movement song Forever. I hope you enjoy this mix, with a lot of bangers! Let me know what you think.
DJ LostNFound is in the mix with songs from KB, Gawvi, Tedashii, Joey Vantes, Bridgewater, L. Dejuan, Uzuhan, 1KPhew, Swoope, Wande, Jon Keith, Trip, The Cross Movement, Japhia Life and Makeba
We look back at iconic interviews of three artists that were featured on past episodes of the show. Plus, we have music from The Cross Movement, Minister Taf, God Over Money Records and the 116 Clique.
John Wells AKA The Tonic and William Branch AKA The Ambassador share the stories of their lives prior to forming the legendary Christian hip-hop group, The Cross Movement. At a time when conservative, fundamentalist and fascist forces appear to achieving political dominance, the need for progressive movements to build strong alliances and collective resistance appears paramount – yet, few such alliances are visible and sustaining cross-movement solidarity is very hard work. This episode explores why this is the case, what are the fault lines, and some success stories of cross-movement alliances and the lessons we can learn from them. Participants include: Aruna Rao (moderator); Roselyn Odoyo (Roxy), Queer Rights Activist, Kenya; Daysi Flores, Just Associates (JASS) Mesoamerica, Honduras; Alex Bradley, JASS, USA; Rupsa Mallik, CREA, India. Gender at Work and CREA co-developed a podcast series on feminists rethinking politics and resistance, reimagining change and transformation and rebooting struggles and movements. We asked participants at CREA's Re-conference in Nepal - artists, performers, writers, activists, policy makers, film makers and many others from the disability rights, sex worker rights, environmental rights, sexual and reproductive rights and queer movements from around the world - to reflect on a series of provocative questions: How are you responding to criminalization? How are you standing up to threats to critical thinking, freedom of expression, right to organize and protest, and suppression of rights? How are artists, activists and movements on the margins addressing issues of exclusion and inclusion in more intersectional ways? In the face of progressive terminology, how can we rethink language and terminology so as to shape new strategies, narratives and advocacy? Why and how do we need to reimagine ideas around consent, pleasure and danger? How can we reboot cross- movement alliance building for greater collective voice and impact? All episodes were recorded at the CREA Re-conference in Nepal in April 2019.

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 1 Corinthians 13:1 This week's episode deals with love. We must first realize what Love is before we can show Love to others and if you do not know Jesus, then you really don't know what Love is. You know, sometimes I think it gets pushed to the back of our minds what Christ did for us. We hear that he died on the cross so much that our soulish natures can eventually let it be cli che.. Well lets o a modern day parable.. Say you and your homie or homegirl were bouncing to your iPods listening to the Mixtape Ministry Mixshow :) .. You guys came to an intersection and being a bit absent minded, you began to cross the street without looking. Your friend who's paying more attention sees a big semi coming and hollers out to you but your don't hear.. as the semi bears down on you, they run up from behind, snatching you out the way and takes the hit. They Loved you so much that they accepted death in place of you. -BliSs www.MixtapeMinistry.com Thank you for listening.
