Hey friend. I don't know how long you've been on your style journey, pouring into your education, becoming more aware of your shopping choices, and putting extra thought into your outfits. But I bet you'll agree that one of the hardest things at the beginning of this journey is figuring out how to dress to flatter your body. You've probably taken a deep-dive into shapes and silhouettes, proportions and prints. And there's nothing like FINALLY getting it down and confidently working this knowledge into your daily routine.   But then… things change! You start losing some weight in your midsection. You get pregnant and your hips become even more prominent, like our friend Karen who submitted today's Q&A Thursday question. Or your feet grow and all of your shoes feel just a little too tight, like mine. (I really need to start accepting my new shoe size!)   Yes, your body isn't going to stay the same forever. Your style is going to ebb and flow. Your coloring will likely soften with age as well. But the good news is you don't have to start all over!   In today's episode, I'm going to help you see how a few subtle tweaks each season will keep your closet on track, your style knowledge sharp, and your outfits looking incredible on you. Let's explore HOW to dress for your shape and proportions no matter what changes come your way.   FREE 5-MIN PERSONAL STYLE QUIZ: https://herstylellc.com/quiz HER STYLE BLOG: https://herstylellc.com/blog HER STYLE ON INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/heatherriggsstyle/ GET FEATURED ON A Q&A THURSDAY EPISODE: https://herstylellc.com/podcast JOIN HER STYLE COLLECTIVE: http://herstylellc.com/collective   Related Episodes: 139 - Maternity Wear 101: Revamping Your Wardrobe Pre-Pregnancy Through Postpartum 99 - Navigating Postpartum Body Changes and Redefining Your Style for Mom Life 56 - 3 Things to Focus On When Dressing for Your Body Type 22 - How to Love, Celebrate, and Dress the Body You're In

When it comes to styling outfits, one of the MOST IMPORTANT things is to make sure your undergarments are working to flatter your figure, optimize your silhouette, and give you the smoothest line possible.   I know lingerie is often an afterthought. It has been for me, too. Nearly a decade ago, I counted more than 30 cocktail dresses in my closet… and at the same time, I didn't have a properly fitting bra! I know! I've learned better as a reformed impulse shopper and recovering shopaholic.   And while lingerie shopping can definitely be fun, a lot of times I think we brush it aside because we want to invest in pieces everyone's going to see instead. But I promise you, having a well-fitted look starts at the foundation. So I rounded up three simple steps I highly encourage you to take and we're also going to troubleshoot a number of common lingerie challenges and questions today.   You with me, friend? Let's get ready to dive into this delicate topic… See what I did there? Something I haven't talked about much on the podcast yet are the numerous non life-threatening, yet frustrating health problems I've faced over the course of my life. In fact, I actually dove deep into this area about 10 years ago and got a nutrition coaching certification! And after working with private styling clients over the years, I witnessed firsthand that so many women are facing debilitating health battles, struggling to lose weight, and generally feeling unwell. So while my passion is personal style and helping you build a wardrobe you love, I also know what it means to feel good on the inside and see that confidence and vibrancy radiate on the outside. While this isn't my typical episode, I think it's important to share about my most recent health struggle, how I overcame it, and what I did to lose “the last 10 pounds” without even trying! My weight was NOT my primary concern, but losing the few excess pounds I was holding onto over the last few years has been icing on the cake (no pun intended). My clothes fit more comfortably and, more importantly, my physical symptoms are gone I did this without dieting, tracking my meals, and working out far less than I normally do. I invite you to listen to today's episode as I open up and share this very personal journey with you! Heidi Skolnik is joining Claire on the podcast today. Considered a thought leader in nutrition, Heidi has influenced millions through her media work, writing and thriving consulting business. Heidi has been part of The Women's Sports Medicine Center at HSS for over 20 years. Her company Nutrition Conditioning, oversees the Performance Nutrition program at The Juilliard School and the School of American Ballet and she has consulted with numerous Broadway shows. Her book Whole Body Reset: Your Weight-Loss Plan for a Flat Belly, Optimum Health and a Body You'll Love at Midlife and Beyond is the topic for today's conversation.Weight gain is one of the things that affect women as they enter menopause. Heidi joined journalist and author Stephen Perrine to answer the question about why this happens. AARP staff also tested the science as part of this project. Our metabolism does not change in any significant way as we age. That's right! It's steady throughout our life. What does change is less muscle which begins declining at about age 30 and continues unless we actively work to maintain muscle. If muscle loss is the issue, what can we do about that? We are always breaking down and building back metabolically. When we are younger, building back happens quickly. As we age, the process continues but we don't build back muscle at the same rate. Part of the solution is protein timing. We need to hit 25 grams of protein at every meal to overcome the resistance to muscle-building. Heidi outlines how you can do this by adding protein at each meal since most of us consume most of our protein at the end of the day. All foods fit. Heidi explains why timing is key to your nutrition overall. The benefits impact our muscles, bone health, weight gain or loss as well as strength and balance. Staying active and functional as we age is related to keeping our muscles strong. The concept of aging is changing. That's the good news. We now know things that we can do to not just extend our lives but to also to stay active so we can do the things we want to do. Heidi shares several easy concepts that will help support a long active lifestyle. It's not an either or, it's both. Good nutrition, more muscle and staying active are part of a complete solution to aging well. She recommends thinking about fat loss and muscle maintenance and growth instead of weight loss. Learning to eat in a way that support muscle mass is a great first step. Changing habits is part of the solution. Part of the solution is making changes in movement, nutrition, and lifestyle. Addressing things like portion control, moving more, adding resistance training, and making sure you add more protein and fiber to each meal will all make positive impacts to your health. Start where you are. Heidi encourages all of us to focus on the process and the behavior. We have control of our choices each day and making incremental changes in those choices can result in better health outcomes. If you're looking for specifics about how-to the book is a great place to start. There are things all of us can do to feel good. Resources: Whole Body Reset BookHeidi's WebsiteHeidi on InstagramSupport the show

March is National Nutrition Month, so we decided to re-share this episode from May 2022.   Host Barbara Hannah Grufferman talks with Stephen Perrine and Heidi Skolnik, co-authors of The Whole Body Reset: Your Weight-Loss Plan for a Flat Belly, Optimum Health & a Body You'll Love at Midlife and Beyond. They share how to stop age-related weight gain with the power of protein timing.  So much of the nutrition information that we hear is not geared to people in mid-life and beyond. Stephen realized that he wanted to validate the nutritional information and that's when Heidi shared a study that busts the metabolism myth.  Metabolism doesn't slow down as we age.  Here's what is true; we lose muscle every year from age 30-40 onward at a rate of 1% per year. By our mid-50's that really begins to add up. Our muscles also become resistant to growth. Today I'm talking with Stephen Perrine and Heidi Skolnik, co-authors of The Whole Body Reset: Your Weight-Loss Plan for a Flat Belly, Optimum Health & a Body You'll Love at Midlife and Beyond. They are sharing how to stop age-related weight gain with the power of protein timing. The pandemic fueled stress related eating for many of us. It's time to take back control of our health and today's guests are going to help us do just that. You don't have to gain weight as you age. That may be news to you since we've been told that weight gain may be inevitable. Our bodies do change as we age but it doesn't mean you have to put on weight. That's why we need more protein more often to encourage muscle growth. The good news: most of us are eating enough protein. What's not happening is the timing of protein in our meals to optimize muscle retention and muscle growth. For those in our 50's and older, you need to have at least 25 grams of protein in the morning to make sure we aren't losing muscle all day long. This also helps to control hunger and provides energy for a busy day. We also discuss: ·        Intermittent fasting ·        Calorie restriction diets ·        Reducing inflammation ·        Grazing ·        B12 needs ·        Calcium requirements ·        Probiotics for gut health ·        Fiber quantities and types ·        Phytonutrients ·        Whey protein powder Diets that worked in our 20's and 30's aren't working for people mid-life and older. We've been led to think that restricting calories is the only way to lose or maintain our weight. The reset plan allows you to eat, enjoy food, and feel satiated. You can be vegan, vegetarian, or follow other eating plans if you ensure that you are getting adequate protein. “The only super food is a lot of different foods.” Stephen Perrine All plants have their own unique set of nutrients which is why variety matters and will serve you better than downing a special “super food”. The role of exercise is also important. Doing exercise is always a good thing, but what many of us miss is resistance training or other activities that help with muscle maintenance and muscle growth. I regularly do exercises that don't require equipment so they can be done anywhere. Make sure you hear Stephen's breakdown of a “typical” day. He gives multiple examples so you can pick foods that you enjoy and that are easy for you to work into your meal plan. Does the body reset work? Hear how the AARP 12-week Whole Body Resent program worked. Many participants saw significant results including weight loss, reduced blood pressure, and more. What you do now will predict your vitality ten years from now. Heidi shares how this helps her keep on track for her healthy future self. That's something we can all do! Welcome to the Keto Kamp Podcast Episode 42 with Clint Ober!   Today, I am lucky to have here with me the CEO of EarthFX Inc. author, and someone who is continually working to spread awareness about grounding, Clint Ober.   Clinton Ober is CEO of EarthFX Inc., a research and development company located in Palm Springs. He first learned of grounding when marketing and installing Cable TV systems in Billings, Montana, in the early 1960s. A decade later, he formed Telecrafter Corporation and built it into the largest provider of cable installation services in the United States. This company specialized in the proper grounding of cable installations for safety and signal stability.   Following a health challenge in 1995, he retired and embarked on a personal journey looking for a higher purpose in life. During his travels, he noticed people wearing plastic and rubber-soled shoes that insulate the body from Earth. He wondered if no longer being naturally grounded could affect us.   The question led to an experiment that suggested grounding reduced pain and improved sleep. He developed a working hypothesis: Grounding normalizes the functioning of all body systems (Corollary: The body utilizes the Earth's electrical potential to maintain its internal electrical stability for the normal functioning of all self-regulating and self-healing systems).   Over the past twenty years, he has supported a host of research studies that collectively demonstrate that grounding reduces inflammation and promotes the normal functioning of all body systems.   In this episode, Clint and I talk about how grounding works and what the benefits are. First, Clint reveals his past health problems and what inspired him to start grounding. Plus, Clint talks about all the research and studies he has conducted over the past twenty years. He also describes the effects grounding can have on blood, sleep, and inflammation. Tune in!   This episode is sponsored by the world's healthiest coffee beans; Purity Coffee. When you connect anything to the Earth, it holds it at Earth’s potential; it reduces noise, fire, and charge. One day, Clint was having static problems. Intuitively, he wondered if the loss of contact with the Earth could be affecting his body. Everything in the body is electrical.   [12:45] Plastic Sole Shoes Clint says plastic sole shoes make us insulate ourselves from Earth. Insolating ourselves from the Earth is like not having enough oxygen. It became apparent that grounding people will make the pain go away.   [16:00] Electrical Surface Charge on Red Blood Cells When you touch the Earth, your body equalizes with the Earth. The red blood cells increase by a factor of 2.7 – an increase of 300%. Like little negative magnets, the cells repel each other – they can’t stick together. It prevents inflammation. As soon as you ground the body, inflammation disappears.   [18:00] Inflammation in the Body You can’t have pain unless you have inflammation first. Pain is a signal to the body and the brain that you have inflammation, and your body is on fire. Inflammation presents differently in various people based on their genetics and lifestyle. How does inflammation begin? If you have no access to electrons, your immune system will encapsulate the damage.   [22:20] Grounding with Nike Clint did work with Nike; whether it is true or not, Nike didn’t want to touch it. Nike said when people come into their stores and want a grounded shoe, they will start making a grounded shoe.   [23:00] Clint’s Health Problems Clint’s doctors revealed that he had an abscess in his liver. They said there wasn’t much they could do; he was young enough to get a new liver, but he didn’t have much time. When Clint woke up, he had no energy whatsoever because they cut out a majority of his liver. Clint could hardly get out of bed; it took him a week to walk to the kitchen and six months to make it one mile. It took less than one year for Clint’s liver to regenerate in size.   [26:00] The Definition of Grounding Grounding means returned to norma. In electrical terms, grounding means to be at Earth’s potential. The easiest thing to do is to take your shoes off and stand barefoot on the Earth. You can’t have inflammation on a grounded body. The hands and feet are equal; you can also put your hands on the Earth.   [29:00] Grounding Benefits While Wearing Leather Shoes If you are wearing moccasins, they can ground you almost instantly. Wearing shoes made from conventional leather will have no plastic in them whatsoever. The more you wear them means you will build up more salts and moisture in the shoes.   [30:10] The Most Surprising Benefit of Grounding The blood dramatically shifts; it changes. It’s hard to be upset or mad when your bare feet are on the ground.   [37:20] Grounding Effects on Cortisol During a study, everybody’s cortisol was way high in the morning and at night. The subjects would be fatigued during the day. After Clint grounded them, their cortisol levels evened out. At 4:00 am, your cortisol skyrockets – it’s what allows you to get out of bed in the morning. If you normalize cortisol, you will be able to sleep through the night. If your cortisol is elevated, you will not be able to sleep. Reducing cortisol means your sleep will improve. If you are living on the east coast timeframe, and you go to the west coast, your cortisol will be out of whack. By grounding, your jet lag will completely synchronize.   [42:00] Grounding After a Thunderstorm During a thunderstorm, there are electron imbalances. If you go to the top of a mountain and you’re grounded, then the atmosphere is positive, and the Earth is negative. The atmosphere is pulling electrons through your body like an antenna.   [44:35] Pets Benefit From Grounding Animals don’t have modern health disorders. All of the animals who live indoors with their owners have diseases like their owners. Once people began keeping horses in their barns, the horses started getting modern health disorders. People were no longer able to keep horses because of health issues.   [48:45] Earthing: The Most Important Health Discovery Ever! The book is published in 24 languages and digital format. It has never really been promoted; it’s just one of those books people share. This is the most important health discovery ever; the effects are so profound on our blood. If you have a health disorder, something is interfering with your immune system.   [52:45] How Long Should You Be Grounding The average person should be doing 30 minutes twice a day. Women need more grounding. If you have a health problem, you may need to ground for 16 hours a day.   [55:50] Grounding During Sleep You can put people on any program, but compliance is the toughest thing in the world. Grounding while asleep will make you a different person. Plus, you can put your sheets on over your grounding mat.     AND MUCH MORE!   Resources from this episode: Visit Earthing Institute The benefits of Earthing Watch The Earthing Movie Get your Grounding Products Designed Earthing: The Most Important Health Discovery Ever! by Clint Ober This podcast is for information purposes only.
