Caleb & Ethan in the secondary studio talking all about Caleb's opening day Ohio buck, a deer we called 7 Card. The hunt was everything we could ever ask out of an opening day bow hunt culminating in Caleb's second biggest archery buck.
Originally aired on October 4th, 2025. On this episode, Doug interviews Wayne Arrington, President of Arride Bikes, to discuss how incredible an e-bike can be for your outdoors experience. Doug also talks about Washington DC challenging a gun-related state law in Hawaii, and much more.
Opening day of bow season is here, and Todd, Justin, & Ben are kicking things off in northern Illinois with temps pushing into the mid-80s. From scouting cut corn and bean fields, to testing new gear and grabbing last-minute tags, it's a classic opener full of ups, downs, and laughs. This hunt is extra special—it's one of Todd's last chances on a farm that has taught him so much over the years. We set up over a rebuilt waterhole, dial in the stands, and wait out the heat in hopes of catching some early-season movement.
In this episode, Kurt shares a quick update on his summer adventures—canoe trips, big fish, and family time—before diving into some serious whitetail prep. Follow along as he builds a DIY mock rub/scrape tree using PVC, Quikrete, and a white pine branch to create the perfect setup in front of one of his favorite stand locations. From digging through rocky soil to hanging a licking branch and setting a trail camera, Kurt shows the full process of how he gets deer in bow range before October arrives. Whether you're looking for early-season prep ideas or just want to see another way to get deer in front of your stand, this is one project you'll want to try.
This week Leigh talks about the future of The Let Off and the big changes that are coming, he also talks about the harsh realities of bowhunting, not getting bogged down by archery season, and reads some more scam emails. The 2024 deer season was anything but easy for Justin. Between balancing family life, long sits in the stand, missed opportunities, and a streak of bad luck, this year tested his patience more than ever. From helping his son Joey chase his first deer with a bow, to countless sits without seeing a shooter, Justin's season was full of ups, downs, and plenty of laughs along the way. Follow along as Justin battles through a tough fall in Illinois, encounters his target buck more than once, and reminds us that sometimes the real story of hunting isn't about the kill—it's about the grind, the memories, and the time spent in the woods.

In this episode of Becoming a Bowhunter, Matty is joined by Jamie Macintosh and Hayden Reylewski. These two recently conducted a sound test on arrows, and what they found is pretty incredible. Inside this episode, we go into all of the elements they tested and break down exactly what makes your arrows loud or quiet while they're soaring through the air. The boys then help to draw the lines between their data and what that means for us bowhunters. Pretty much the sound of your arrow in flight could be the difference between an animal ducking the shot or not. Podcast Topics: Testing Methods: How they measure bow and arrow noise with chronographs, microphones, and a backyard DIY setup that actually worksChallenges in Testing: The impact of changing humidity, shifting light, and what it takes to get results that hold up in the fieldArrow Flight & Noise: How fletching, helical twist, and nock setup all change the sound of your shotBroadhead Comparisons: Two blades versus three, long and pointy versus wide and stubby, vented versus solid, and what that means for noiseReal-World Impacts: Stories of animals jumping the string and how small sound changes can make a big differenceFuture Gear & Testing Plans: What the boys have planned for further tests, plus where you can see the data and use this information for your arrow setup. Whether you're a gear tinkerer or just want to make your setup as silent as possible, this is one of the most practical deep dives we've ever done. This week on Driftwood Outdoors, Brandon Butler and Nathan McLeod welcome guest Keith Hannaman to talk all things bear hunting across the country and here in Missouri. What should've been a smooth conversation turned into one of the wildest recordings yet — Brandon's iMac Pro took a nosedive, Missouri weather kept knocking Keith offline, and the whole thing quickly spiraled into a comical disaster.Still, amidst the chaos, the crew managed to cover bear hunting, Keith's days playing football at Penn State, the kickoff of archery season, and of course, the Mystery Bait Bucket. It might be our most technically cursed episode yet, but it's packed with good laughs and a little bit of outdoor wisdom.Special thanks to:Living The Dream Outdoor PropertiesSuperior Foam Insulation LLCDoolittle TrailersScenic Rivers TaxidermyConnect with Driftwood Outdoors:FacebookInstagramYouTubeEmail:info@driftwoodoutdoors.com

Send us a textWant to see more mature bucks during daylight hours this season? Clifton Denny from On Your Own Outdoors reveals game-changing tactics that fly in the face of conventional deer hunting wisdom. The most eye-opening revelation? Mature bucks aren't actually "going nocturnal" - they're simply responding to patterns hunters unknowingly establish. Clifton explains how the common practice of filling feeders after work at 5-6pm is precisely why your target buck only appears on camera at night. By shifting your feeding schedule to 10pm and changing your bait type right before hunting, you create the perfect scenario for daylight encounters. The conversation unveils the power of "fat lines" - those mysterious thicker contour lines on topographical maps that consistently mark high deer activity zones. What started as a theory has been field-tested with remarkable success, with hunters reporting mature buck sightings exactly where these terrain features appear on maps. Clifton's comprehensive breakdown of this approach gives listeners a significant advantage for early season success.Beyond technical strategies, the episode dives into fascinating observations about deer behavior during velvet-shedding period, bachelor group dispersal, and critical early-season food sources like persimmon and honey locust trees. The discussion even addresses regional hunting differences, with practical advice for Arkansas hunters looking to adapt their skills to different terrains.Whether you're a weekend warrior or a dedicated trophy hunter, these practical, field-tested approaches will transform your early season strategy. After implementing these tactics, you'll never look at your hunting property - or your trail camera results - the same way again.GUEST WEBSITE: https://www.onyourownoutdoors.comGUEST YOUTUBE: https://www.youtube.com/c/cliftondenneyonyourownoutdoorsOUR WEBSITE/OTC MERCH: https://offtheclockwithbscott.comHAVOC GEAR SHOP: https://havocnation.comHAVOC BOATS WEBSITE: https://havocboats.comHAVOC DEALERS: https://havocboats.com/dealers/WREAKIN' HAVOC CREW WEBSITE: https://wreakinhavoccrew.comSOCIAL LINKSTruth Social: https://truthsocial.com/@OffTheClockwithBScottFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/people/Off-The-Clock-With-B-Scott/61557737220814/Twitter (X): https://twitter.com/OTCwithBScottInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/offtheclockwithbscott/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwu6_wWcXDoBzhpHv4YgZGQRumble: https://rumble.com/c/c-5644782Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/2g76hRDp9d609LETevSH2U?si=0ba23ae282c94e88&nd=1&dlsi=d9f84d7699b84724Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/off-the-clock-with-b-scott/id1734265760

What if the secret to hitting your business goals was the same as hitting a target in the wild with a bow? In this episode of The Happy Hustle Podcast, I break down what I call The Five P's of Bow Hunting and Business—a framework that helps you not only hunt smarter but also build and run your business with more alignment, patience, and resilience. These aren't just hunting stories (though I've got a few wild ones). They're lessons you can actually apply to your entrepreneurial journey so you can keep crushing it without burning out. Here are a few key takeaways from this episode:Preparation is everything. Success—whether it's a clean shot or a business launch—starts way before game day. Get your systems, strategy, and mindset locked in.Performance is what counts. When the opportunity shows up, you have to execute. No second-guessing. No freezing. Just full presence and precision.Patience is a practice. Both hunting and business require waiting, adjusting, and playing the long game. Success rarely happens overnight.Perseverance is non-negotiable. Setbacks are part of the process. The entrepreneurs (and hunters) who win are the ones who keep showing up, day after day.Payoff makes it worth it. That big win—whether it's putting organic meat on the table or closing a huge client deal—tastes sweeter because of the grind it took to get there. This conversation is about more than elk hunting. Send us a textHave you ever wondered why you can hit a bullseye one day and miss the target entirely the next? In this eye-opening conversation with Neil Hignight of 501 Archery in Hot Springs, we dive deep into the psychological aspects of archery that even experienced shooters struggle to master.Neil's journey from barbershop owner to professional bow technician began after a neck injury forced him to reconsider his career path. What started as casual help at a local bow shop evolved into a full-time passion for helping others improve their archery skills. "I love to serve people," Neil explains. "I want to see somebody needing help because I want to help them—and it's not for my own gratification."The conversation takes a fascinating turn when Neil reveals the concept of "target panic"—a psychological phenomenon affecting virtually all archers. With remarkable clarity, he explains how modern technology has paradoxically made some aspects of archery more challenging by disconnecting shooters from fundamental techniques. "We've forgotten the fundamentals," Neil says. "Technology's got so advanced... everybody's shooting their bow instead of letting their bow shoot."Beyond equipment talk, Neil shares invaluable insights about the mental discipline required for archery success. His passion for teaching through the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) demonstrates how archery builds confidence and self-reliance in young people—qualities increasingly important in our technology-dominated world.Whether you're a seasoned bow hunter or just curious about the sport, Neil's practical wisdom will transform how you think about archery. His memorable advice to "let your bow shoot instead of trying to shoot your bow" might just be the key to breaking through your performance plateau. Ready to overcome your target panic? Listen now and discover the mental game that separates good archers from great ones.GUEST WEBSITE: https://www.facebook.com/p/501-ARchery-61572293309863/OUR WEBSITE/OTC MERCH: https://offtheclockwithbscott.comHAVOC GEAR SHOP: https://havocnation.comHAVOC BOATS WEBSITE: https://havocboats.comHAVOC DEALERS: https://havocboats.com/dealers/WREAKIN' HAVOC CREW WEBSITE: https://wreakinhavoccrew.comSOCIAL LINKSTruth Social: https://truthsocial.com/@OffTheClockwithBScottFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/people/Off-The-Clock-With-B-Scott/61557737220814/Twitter (X): https://twitter.com/OTCwithBScottInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/offtheclockwithbscott/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwu6_wWcXDoBzhpHv4YgZGQRumble: https://rumble.com/c/c-5644782Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/2g76hRDp9d609LETevSH2U?si=0ba23ae282c94e88&nd=1&dlsi=d9f84d7699b84724Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/off-the-clock-with-b-scott/id1734265760

Send us a textThe moment Christina Rafalco describes will resonate with any hunter—that magical time when the sun begins to set, the woods are bathed in golden light, and an extraordinary stillness descends. "Unless you're in that moment experiencing the quiet and how everything just settles down," she explains, "you can't understand it. I could do that every single day of my life."Christina brings refreshing energy to this episode as she shares her journey into bowhunting as a 48-year-old single mom. Her story begins just four years ago when a relationship introduced her to archery, quickly sparking a passion that transcended target shooting. With candid humor, she describes overcoming a severe fear of heights—starting with a modest 10-foot ladder stand before conquering her anxiety to climb 30 feet up. "Now I'm fine with it," she laughs, detailing her evolution from nervous novice to confident hunter. The conversation takes listeners through Christina's hunting adventures across New Jersey's public and private lands. She doesn't shy away from the challenges, from tracking her first deer to having her birthday-gift ladder stand stolen by another hunter. These experiences taught her resilience and the importance of community. When describing the hunting brotherhood that welcomed her, Christina notes how fellow hunters looked out for her on public land: "Nobody would leave until they knew I was back to my vehicle and safe."Her most captivating story recounts harvesting her first buck—a seven-pointer she ultimately commemorated with a tattoo. Listeners will feel the tension as she describes drawing her bow while her heart raced, watching through her peep sight as the buck gradually emerged from behind a tree. The emotional aftermath of that successful heart shot captures why hunting means so much to so many: "I'm standing over him with tears coming down my face because it's just such a moment."Whether you're a seasoned hunter or curious about getting started, Christina's perspective offers valuable insights into hunting strategies, gear choices, and the unique considerations women face in the field. Her advice to other women interested in hunting resonates with authenticity: "Don't be shy. Ask questions. You're not going to learn by not asking."Follow Christina on Instagram @cjr.76 and join our community where we celebrate the challenges, triumphs, and peaceful moments that make hunting such a transformative experience.
