The BiG Scuba Duo, Gemma and Ian chat to Lisa Blair.  Lisa is an Australian Adventurer, Climate Activist, Author, Speaker and Multi-World Record holding sailor.    On May 25th, 2022, Lisa achieved her latest milestone by becoming the fastest person to sail solo, non-stop, and unassisted around Antarctica, shaving 10 days off the previous record. During this record-setting journey, Lisa seized the opportunity to amplify her message of Climate Action Now and collaborated with a number of scientific organizations such as the Bureau of Meteorology, the Australian Institute of Marine Science, and the Seabed 2030 project.  Lisa's commitment to ocean health was evident as she deployed eight weather drifter buoys, one A.R.G.O research float, collected round-the-clock ocean health readings, and gathered over 180 microplastic samples, all while braving the perils of the world's most treacherous ocean for an astounding 92 days. Through her partnership with Ocean Ops, Lisa's expedition earned recognition as a United Nations Decade of Ocean Science initiative.   Social media and website links.   Find out more about Climate Action Now and Lisa's journey at   https://lisablairsailstheworld.com/ Follow Lisa on Instagram    https://www.instagram.com/lisablairsailstheworld/   The BiG Scuba Podcast is brought to you by Narked at 90.   “Beyond Technical”   Narked at 90    If you are thinking of moving across to tech diving or completely new to diving, Narked at 90 can advise and guide on the best equipment and set up for your personal or commercial requirements  https://www.narkedat90.com/.   This episode is sponsored by Sports Financial Services  https://sports-fs.co.uk/   They are specialists in arranging life insurance for active sports and hazardous occupations.  Contact them for a free quoteation.   We hope you have enjoyed this episode of The BiG Scuba Podcast.  Please give us ★★★★★ review, and tell your friends and share and like, it all makes a difference.   Contact Gemma and Ian with your messages, ideas and feedback via The BiG Scuba Bat Phone    +44 7810 005924   or use our social media platforms.   To keep up to date with the latest news, follow us:   We are on Instagram                     @thebigscuba   We are on Facebook                      @thebigscuba   We are in LinkedIn                          https://www.linkedin.com/in/ian%F0%9F%A6%88-last-325b101b7/ The BiG Scuba Website                  www.thebigscuba.com Amazon Store :                                https://www.amazon.co.uk/shop/thebigscuba   Visit   https://www.patreon.com/thebigscubapodcast and subscribe - Super quick and easy to do and it makes a massive difference. When Lisa Blair was 25, she fell in love with sailing while she was working as a hostess on a sailboat. Fast forward only seven years later and she became the first woman to sail solo around Antarctica with one stop. But it wasn't without complications, having a near-death experience where her yacht dismasted at sea. Still she kept sailing, quickly becoming the fastest woman to sail solo around Australia and then Antartica as she crazily attempted her record again, and beat it by ten days. All these adventures took place onboard her yacht, Climate Action Now, which she hopes will inspire others to take action towards sustainability. Now she's gearing up to break another record by travelling the Artic solo. The Female Athlete Project is excited to announce the 2024 TFAP Awards. The Eden Monaro By election in July, polarised people into the old blame game about hazzard reduction. Some blamed greenies for not wanting any, others blamed loggers for creating hazzards with the debris and flammable new growth they leave behind.  At the Emergy Leaders for Climate Action Summit, Greg Mullins said "We need to stop being such control freaks and develop trust. Climate change is drying out the land and making everything worse." We need to put resources behind the  traditional knowledge holders without trying to control them. We hear from Dan Morgan who explains how cultural burns start slowly so the birds and insects can smell the smoke. He says they have had an existential shock and although many voted for the old solutions, many more are seeking something new. He was influenced by an Australian Philosopher Val Plumwood who wrote "Feminism and the mastery of nature"Peter Haggar sees pluralism as the way forward. So even for city people, any stand for the plurality  of gender, race or class is part of the same battle for the diversity of  nature. Eva Bishop is mother of two young children, as well as being a long-term a climate activist and current communications director for the Beaver Trust.  She is dedicated to finding ways that we can all create emotional and practical resilience in the face of the climate emergency - but in particular, how parents and care-givers can help young people develop the skills they will need to navigate a world that is undergoing total transformation - while at the same time, helping to be part of the change we need to see. In this broad-ranging, deep, challenging conversation, we explore the ways we can all be part of the solution, touching on: emotional resilience strategies; growing food and exploring the whole food system; education: what it is for, how it functions, and what it needs to become.  Eva shares her 'Collective Human' strategies and 'MyActionMatters'.  If anyone feels moved to help with these, there is room for a team, to bring funding together to expand them. We are all part of the solution. We just need to find what we're best at.  Go for it. Hello beautiful people On today's podcast we have the phenomenal Lisa Blair. At the age of 25, Lisa discovered sailing. Impressively, a mere 7 years later Lisa made history by becoming the first woman to sail around Antarctica with one stop. Lisa then went on to lead the first all-female team to compete in the 2017 Rolex Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race in 16 years, before setting two more world records in December 2018 when she sailed solo non-stop and unassisted around Australia; spending 58 days at sea. Lisa is a keynote speaker, an advocate for awareness of climate change through her project ‘Climate Action Now'  and an author of the book, ‘Facing Fear'.What I personally love about this conversation is Lisa's strength and determination. She is a proud Australian adventurer, and it's genuinely awe-inspiring to hear of her story from being a girl from the outback to becoming a woman of the ocean. When Lisa made history by becoming the first woman to sail around Antarctica with one stop, this one stop was due to her boat dismasting. In this conversation she shares the truly terrifying and dramatic experience of what this means and after not seeing another human being for 72 days, the trauma that is heightened when you are in complete isolation now facing a very real life and death situation. It's certainly one of those stories that gets your heart racing. And now, coming into the final end of 2021, Lisa is heading out to attempt Antarctica 2.0, now attempting to not only achieve this incredible feat non-stop and unassisted, but become the fastest person to do so.If you are enjoying this podcast, please rate, review, subscribe, share with friends and family, become part of the To Be Human Collective, and enjoy this conversation with the beautiful Lisa Blair.Connect with MeMindset Coaching | https://www.jennahlouise.com.auInstagram Personal | https://www.instagram.com/jennah_louiseConnect with LisaInstagram | https://www.instagram.com/lisablairsailstheworld Facebook | https://www.facebook.com/LisaBlairSailstheWorld Website | https://lisablairsailstheworld.com

A  well organised, new project bringing beautifully designed, inexpensive Climate Action Now Signs to the people promises to help wake Australia up to the need for urgent climate action now. This project came out of the disastrous fires of Black Summer 2019 on the NSW South Coast. As the fires raged Jed Johnson noticed people were putting up homemade Climate Action Now signs on farm gates....but some didn't look great and all were different. He thought uniform signs would have more impact as they are easily recognised, creating a mass effect showing that many, many of us want to pull our weight as a nation in cutting CO2 emissions and are not content with the lack of adequate climate policy.Find out how to get Climate Action Now signs for yourself and your group. We join families from Nth Rosedale,  who lived through the horrific fires that burnt some of their homes to the ground as they ran for shelter on the beach. They are waiting for a truck from the Australian National Museum to arrive to pick up relics of Black Sumer: a melted aluminum fishing tinny boat and melted water pump from the destroyed home of Jack Egan and Cath Bowden. On the unmelted half of the boat is a  large yellow and black painted sign that says Climate Action Now. Links:Climate Action Now signs  [CAN]    cansign.org.auWith Our Own Eyes Eurobodalla | FacebookMusic: Emerging Canberra composer  Dom Novakovic:     Earth Matters #1282 was produced by Bec Horridge

The HSP boys are glad to be back after episode 36, with this week being dominated by the Bill Barr testimony. We're now on week 4 of back-to-back slow news weeks. As always though, there's still plenty to talk about. We begin this episode with a run-down and discussion the AG Bill Barr congressional testimony. Russ delivers a stellar analysis of the testimony. Afterward, he and Luke discuss the merits of the testimony. Moving on, we discuss the Climate Action Now bill, which just passed the house this week. While this bill is dead on arrival because it'll never pass the Senate, we focus most of our attention on the right's reaction. After a break, we move on updates and corrections. We didn't have many of either this week, so we quickly move on to the latest social purge of right-wing "extremists". While most of the right-wing are concerned about regulating social media companies, Luke and Russ stay grounded in principles.
