Imagine you're at a noisy party. People are everywhere: overlapping conversations, clinking glasses, a constant buzz of sound. And yet, in the middle of all that noise, you suddenly hear your name being called. Instantly, your attention shifts to that one voice. This ability to pick out a specific sound among many others shows how our ears, and especially our brains, can isolate meaningful information in a sea of noise. Scientists call this phenomenon the cocktail party effect. How was this effect discovered? But how is that possible? And does this “superpower” have limits? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions! To listen to the latest episodes, click here: Why are young people in Berlin being paid to party? Dave does a bunch of research and Sarge derails it with jokes. Its a good time.Today's episode is about The Black Flash Of Provincetown (The Devil of the Dunes), where Dave & Sarge cover the high jumping, flame spitting, cloaked entity that terrorized Provincetown, MA during the late 1930s/early 1940s.Follow Cryptid Cocktail Party!Want to hear your story on Susto? We're picking up a strange signal...This week, the Station is experiencing a little interdimensional interference, and the transmission comes from a podcast I LOVE: Cryptid Cocktail Party.Hosts Dave and Sarge blend hilarious real-time reaction with deep-dive cryptid research, and today's episode is all about the eerie legend of the Black Flash of Provincetown - a flame spitting, panic-inducing figure sighted in a Massachusetts town in the late 1930's/early 1940s.Tune in, enjoy the chaos, and if you like what you hear, check out Cryptid Cocktail Party here.

Kandi and Todd Tucker have announced their divorce. But Cocktailers knew. We have posted tea dating back to last year and even earlier that we had heard their marriage was on the rocks. We do have some tea on what may have caused this...and we have opinions, of course, about the prenup. Secret Lives of Mormon Wives has popped off on social media this week. Oh my hell. We break down the background and the details on why Fruity Pebbles now has a whole other meaning. And yet again, content we posted in Cocktail Party has come to the light. This time, it's with Monique Samuels. She has been seen in public with her co-host who she allegedly had an affair with. Cocktailers always know first!
In this special Terrified Together collaboration with our friends Dave and Sarge from Cryptid Cocktail Party, we share two intense listener-submitted encounters that blur the line between tragedy and the paranormal. Our first story involves Levi's harrowing story from Wales, where a routine Costco trip turned into a real-life Final Destination moment when scaffolding from an unsecured truck pierced through their windshield on Junction 28. The pole sliced between Levi and their sister, leaving Levi with a gashed arm but somehow sparing both their lives in what felt like an impossible near-miss. Then, we jump into Jeanette's unsettling experience from Connecticut in 2016, when she stayed late after soccer practice and made the mistake of walking back to the practice field alone in the dark to retrieve her forgotten phone and purse. What started as an eerie feeling of being watched escalated when a young boy came running toward her in the empty parking lot, eventually asking "can I come with you?" in a way that left Jeanette deeply uncomfortable. Though she mumbled agreement while considering the "good karma" for an upcoming game, the unremarkable boy vanished the instant she turned toward her car—and that's when things got worse at home. What sparked the creation of the FBI's Ten Most Wanted list—and why did one fugitive stay on it for 32 years without ever being caught? In this episode of Kent Hance: The Best Storyteller in Texas, Kent dives into the fascinating origins and evolution of one of America's most iconic crime-fighting tools. From a casual conversation at a cocktail party with J. Edgar Hoover to the dramatic capture of Whitey Bulger after 16 years on the run, this episode is packed with jaw-dropping stories and historical insights. You'll hear about: The birth of the Ten Most Wanted list and how a simple idea changed law enforcement forever. Victor Garena's mysterious disappearance after a $7 million armored truck heist—and why he may have been killed over the loot. Whitey Bulger's shocking hideout and the TV tip that finally brought him down. How crime trends—from bank robberies to hijackings to cybercrime—have reshaped the list over decades. Colorful anecdotes about country music legends like Waylon Jennings and Roy Clark that remind us why Kent is the ultimate Texas storyteller. Memorable quote: "If the general public sees that someone, they'll be watching for that face." — Bill Hudson, on why the list works. We hit record right after leaving Jacksonville and heading down I-4 toward Disney World to celebrate another Georgia win—five straight over Florida! This episode is as raw as it gets: no notes, no replays, just our real reactions from the car after the Dawgs pulled off a 24-20 victory. We reflect on the bittersweet end of the Jacksonville era, share stories from Amelia Island, talk about the gameday chaos, and dive into what we saw from Georgia's offense and defense. C.J. Allen's big night, Gunner Stockton's ups and downs, and Chauncey Bowen's clutch run—plus a few laughs along the way. Georgia may not have played perfect, but the Dawgs just keep finding ways to win. Reach out to Cody and Buhler to tell them what's up!It is a good day to be a Dawg!On today's episode of False Start, John Buhler (Lead Writer, FanSided) and Cody Williams (Content Director, FanSided.com) reacted to an incredible Week 10 slate.Buhler's beloved Georgia Bulldogs had an awesome weekend with a big win in The Cocktail Party over Florida, as well as seeing other rival teams such as Auburn, Georgia Tech and Tennessee all lose.Let's not overlook how things are going down in South Beach...Cody is living his best life off a Friday night North Carolina victory over Syracuse, but was along for the ride as well. With Miami unraveling, the Hurricanes are out of the playoff picture. As for teams like Georgia Tech, Oklahoma, Texas, USC and Vanderbilt, they are still very much in this thing.Be sure you know how to clap correctly, or you will be given a False Start!
We send our love to Jamaica and other islands in the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa. We shared links in the newsletter with some resources on how we can all help. Some tea we shared back in August in our Cocktail Party subscription content has come back to light. We're hearing that Danielle from Summer House has been seen filming a reality show...and we have a feeling we know why. You'll hear the exclusive post on the pod. We are very disappointed in Giselle's behavior on RHOP. Making everyone else personalized robes and bags and handwritten cards, but not Stacy? That's not shady. That's just plain mean. And don't get us started on the gang up on Angel about editing her pictures when every single one of those women have edited photos as well. Once again, mean, not shady. We break down the RHOSLC/Below Deck crossover episode ... and there are a few things that went unsaid that we're still talking about. And last but not least, an ICON is slated to film with the Next Gen NYC cast and we are pumped. This week's episode is brought to you in part by our sponsor, Caraway. After a nice weekend off, the Dawgs are back to take on a flailing Florida Gator team. Regardless of their record, this one's always a fight. Reach out to Cody and Buhler to tell them what's up!There has never been a better time to be Joey Freshwater. On today's extra spooky Halloween episode of False Start, John "Richie Tenenbaum" Buhler (Lead Writer, FanSided) and Cody "The Roamin' Gnome" Williams (Content Director, FanSided.com) got ready to get ready for a robust Week 10 slate. It may be Cocktail Party week, but the guys wanted to make sure The Starters knew all about the type of run Lane Kiffin is on, as well as if the Virginia rebuilding plan is transferrable to other bad teams. From there, the guys went on their merry way with the regular segments you have come to love and respect on a Thursday show.Whether you are living in a simulation, stuck in one of Admiral Akbar's traps, riding along with Antonio, or running one of six plays for Coach Herman Boone, just like novocaine, False Start will be there for you.So stop living in your own private Idaho and subscribe to the science of selling yourself short!

It is a bye week for the Alabama Crimson Tide as they try to get ready for the LSU Tigers in two weeks. Alabama Football is in the “Top 4 Byes” in almost everyone's College Football Playoff projections. Has Alabama developed a winning DNA? A surprisingly huge game will be played in Austin Saturday as the Texas Longhorns host the Vanderbilt Commodores. Texas Football must win to stay alive in the Playoffs race, Vanderbilt Football may still be able to absorb a loss but a win positions them well down the stretch. The World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party has the Georgia Bulldogs trying to stay alive in the Playoff hunt facing an interim coach for the Florida Gators. Georgia Football still only has the Alabama loss on their resume. Florida Football looks to rally behind their interim coach. Why should Georgia worry about the Cocktail Party? Speaking of Playoff implications, The Oklahoma Sooners and Tennessee Volunteers meet in Knoxville in a must win game for the two. Both have two losses and a third would be a fatal blow for either Tennessee Football or Oklahoma Football. PLUS, LT's Trash presented by Bud Light! “The Film Guy” Brooks Austin joins The Next Round to break down everything happening across SEC football! We dive deep into the film to answer the big questions around the league — is Ty Simpson the best quarterback in college football right now? What's going on with Alabama's running game, and how much of their success comes from Ryan Grubb's creative playcalling? Brooks also weighs in on Auburn's QB situation as they prepare to face Kentucky, whether Texas can survive their matchup with Vanderbilt (potentially without Arch Manning), and what to expect from Florida in the Cocktail Party against Georgia after firing Billy Napier. Plus, we take a look at Oklahoma's struggling offense. If you love SEC football, this conversation is for you.

After that game, we wouldn't be surprised to hear some folks have put money on #14 to win the Heisman. What an incredible performance by our QB and offense as a whole last weekend between the hedges. The defense.... well they left much to be desired. There is plenty to fix before the Dawgs begin the November stretch of the schedule. But we're going to enjoy this one until next week. The UK's 2025 Carrier Strike Group has sailed to the other side of the world, and is halfway through that 8 month mission. But what's it all for? Sitrep explains what the military drills along the way will have given the 4,000 servicemen and women taking part, and why the aircraft carrier's role hosting defence and trade talks in Japan still matters. The Royal Navy can't do big global deployments without the support from the Royal Fleet Auxilliary. But with yet another RFA ship forced out of service, former Royal Navy Commander Tom Sharpe tells us why he thinks that logistic capability is at crisis point. And in our ongoing exploration of transformative technologies, Sitrep explains directed energy weapons including lasers and radio beams could soon be in service with Britain's Armed Forces.
