This week we discuss hearing loss. A person who is not able to hear as well as someone with normal hearing – hearing thresholds of 20 dB or better in both ears – is said to have hearing loss. Hearing loss may be mild, moderate, severe or profound. It can affect one ear or both ears and leads to difficulty in hearing conversational speech or loud sounds. Hard of hearing refers to people with hearing loss ranging from mild to severe. People who are hard of hearing usually communicate through spoken language and can benefit from hearing aids, cochlear implants, and other assistive devices as well as captioning. Hearing loss that comes on little by little as you age, also known as presbycusis, is common. More than half the people in the United States older than age 75 have some age-related hearing loss. There are three types of hearing loss: Conductive, which involves the outer or middle ear. Sensorineural, which involves the inner ear. Mixed, which is a mix of the two. Aging and being around loud noises both can cause hearing loss. Other factors, such as too much earwax, can lower how well ears work for a time. Deaf people mostly have profound hearing loss, which implies very little or no hearing. They often use sign language for communication. We will not cover deafness during this episode

Galileo Mining Ltd (ASX:GAL, OTC:GLMGF) managing director Brad Underwood sits down with Proactive's Jonathan Jackson to discuss a strongly conductive electromagnetic target five kilometres along strike from the Callisto deposit at the Norseman platinum group elements (PGE)-nickel-copper project in Western Australia. This conductor, identified via a downhole electromagnetic survey, measures approximately 400 metres down-dip and 200 metres in strike length, mirroring geophysical anomalies similar to the 17-million-tonne Callisto deposit. The company plans to include this new target in an upcoming drilling program in August, as it could represent a geological contact zone prospective for mineralisation. Underwood said the company continued to develop new drill targets at the Norseman Project as it moves along strike from Callisto deposit. He emphasised the prospectivity of the region and highlighted the minimal previous exploration before the Callisto discovery in 2022. With $13.6 million in cash, Galileo Mining aims to systematically explore Callisto-style mineralisation within the 255-square-kilometre Norseman tenement package. Planning for the next drilling program is in advanced stages and this is scheduled to commence in mid-August. Galileo Mining is focused on generating new drilling targets over 20 kilometres of strike surrounding the Callisto deposit and 12 kilometres of strike at the Mission Sill PGE-nickel-copper prospect. Callisto's resource estimate includes 17.48 million tonnes at 0.82 ppm palladium, 0.15 ppm platinum, 0.045 ppm gold, 0.027 ppm rhodium, 0.20% nickel and 0.16% copper, equating to significant quantities of palladium equivalent, nickel equivalent, and 4E (platinum group elements plus gold). #ProactiveInvestors #GalileoMining #ASX #CallistoDeposit, #ElectromagneticSurvey, #NorsemanProject, #PGENickelCopper, #WesternAustralia, #GeophysicalAnomalies, #Mineralisation, #DrillingProgram, #AugustDrilling, #BradUnderwood, #Exploration, #MiningProspectivity, #ResourceEstimate, #Palladium, #Platinum, #Gold, #Rhodium, #Nickel, #Copper #invest #investing #investment #investor #stockmarket #stocks #stock #stockmarketnews

Matt Smith started his firm TCPoly while he was a researcher at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He parlayed this small business into manufacturing filament that is thermally, but not electrically conductive conductive. With a thermal conductivity of 6 W/m-K, TCPoly filament can be used to create structures with properties that other parts simply cannot have. TCPoly has expanded to manufacturer panels that could help keep large buildings cool. Matt's story is one that really illustrates how tough it is to get something really innovative going in the world of technology. It also demonstrates how, while 3D printing filament might be a good thing in itself, much better heat management for buildings could be even better.

The concept of noodling on a guitar is one we are all familiar with, but how do you noodle on a synth? Conductive Labs took the notion of noodling (or freestyle playing) on synths as the starting point for their NDRL sequencer. Rather than playing with notes, with the NDLR you play high-level concepts - chord progressions, arpeggiators and how they interact with one another. It's like conducting a little quartet rather than playing an individual instrument. And this might sound like playing Ableton, but it's very different than that. With the NDLR you don't mix between pre-recorded samples, but rather mix musical concepts. This way of playing informs the interface directly. There is no way to add individual notes precisely. Instead, you sequence ideas and progressions with a set of pre-defined rules. Putting design aside for a moment, in this conversation we go well beyond design and engineering. We discuss the challenges of fabrication and DFM (design for manufacturing). Producing instruments in China, or from home, and what it actually means to turn a prototype into a product that's produced by the thousands. Our guest for today's podcast is Carey Lai, Founding Member and Managing Director at Conductive Ventures, a venture capital firm that invests in expansion stage companies with a focus on software, hardware, and technology enabled services. In 2016, after a 12 year career in venture capital working for two of the best in the business: Institutional Venture Partners (IVP) and Intel Capital, Carey left his job in pursuing the dream of most venture capitalists, starting his own venture capital firm. After over a year, 150+ investor meetings, and failing to secure enough capital to run their strategy, Carey and his partner concluded starting a fund was not in their cards. In 2017, as Carey began to look for a job, his fortune took a turn for the best and he landed a $100 million seed commitment from an investor to launch his own venture capital firm. How did he do it? Well, you are in the right place to hear his story and the lessons learned during his journey.
I had the honor of interviewing, Brad Ahlm, President of Conductive Containers, Inc. Listen to this, when you rub your feet on the carpet, then touch someone, and give them a “shock”, it took about 5,000 volts of static electricity to generate that “shock”. Now picture this, your company makes something like computer microchips, and if your microchip is exposed to even 10 volts of static electricity, it will ruin your microchip, but you need to ship your microchips across the county… now what? I'll tell you, “what”, you call Conductive Containers Inc because when it comes to protecting products from an electrical charge, they have the answer. They can make a custom container for your microchips or anything else you might need shipped, stored, or displayed. Check them out at www.CorStat.com
