What Happened To The Couch? - Party 4 Tuesday by Pop Tab Podcast
How (specifically) to get aliens to beam thoughts directly into your brain. Lots about Ralph Waldo Emerson. Also, great great music. (All podcasts and reviews are on www.hlycrp.com, and you can also follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, and Spotify, and Apple Podcasts.)
Feeling contemplative (and more than a little inebriated), Jake and Tom sit down with their old chums Matt & HAB (formerly of the dearly departed podcast "Couch Party") to look back and talk about all of the technological changes they've experienced in their lifetimes. What follows is a fun and often times frustrating look back at the tech of their youths, in which the guys begin to wonder whether or not old school arcade games were nothing more than a scam designed to snatch as many quarters from little kids as possible, and how the cell phone was replaced by the Bluetooth as the douchebag weapon of choice. Along the way, the guys ask themselves what may have been lost by acquiring this new tech. Have we somehow managed to get dumber as a result of having all of the world's information at our fingertips? Should we be worried about our phones "spying" on us? And what are we gonna have to deal with when "deep fakes" become more commonplace? Somewhere in all of this, Jake and Tom get into an argument about one region of Michigan's dialect versus another, the guys look back fondly on the skills of "bar kids", and HAB regales us with the legend of Potato-Top Thompson. Be sure to help Jake and Tom in their quest for global domination by rating them highly on Apple Podcasts! Don't forget to follow them on Twitter or to join in on the conversation over at their Facebook page, "Jake and Tom Conquer the Group"! And when you've finished this episode, you can find more like it by checking out Tom's guest spots over on "Someone's Favorite Podcast" (hosted by friend of the show, Randy Perkins), as well as all of the other great shows brought to you via the guys' partners in internet radio, Geeks Worldwide! Here at the Couch Party, you never know where the conversation is going to go. Which is why our guest this week is perfect to take his turn on the Couch. The good doctor Mr. Penrose Eames joins TRB this week to delve into all kinds of topics, ranging from Robert "Don't look me in the eyes during a handy" Kraft to the disgusting (alleged) human being R. Kelly. Our train derails into other discussions such as indentured servitude, Thunderdome, as well as Penrose's story about a cheap furloughed customer. So do yourself a favor and subscribe to The Couch Party, plug in those headphones, and enjoy the wild ride that is the Ranty and Rosé reunion! You thought they were gone forever... But after months of anticipation, Jake and Tom have returned with an all-new episode! More importantly, they've brought along some friends: From the amazing "Faces and Aces: Las Vegas" and the dearly departed "Couch Party", the guys are joined by The Green Korean & HAB! The topic for today's conversation is one that Jake and Tom have always been fascinated with - Time Travel. Listen in as the guys ask their guests what they would do if they could change the course of history, and more interestingly, how would they abuse that power? Jake is away this week so he can celebrate his 40th birthday. So Tom decided to break out the big guns: Joining him once again for this episode is Matt from the dearly departed "Couch Party" podcast, as well as the legendary Ranty Bastard, former host of the greatly missed "Retail Rant". Today, the guys are delving deep into the internet and are settling the stupidest debates the can find. "How stupid?", you ask? They're stupid enough to wonder if a hot dog is a sandwich. They ponder the idea of cereal being a soup. They even try to figure out whether a baby can be considered a vegan if they're fed breast milk. Y'see...? It really does get that stupid. But it was also a helluva lotta fun. So hit the play button & get ready to laugh at three supposedly grown men as they argue the merits of proper toilet paper etiquette. Jake is outta town this week, so Tom has recruited his good friends from the dearly departed Couch Party Podcast to help him out! Listen in as Tom, Matt & HAB recount the hedonistic days of their youth, before diving into the latest geek headlines. Topics covered include whether or not the "Star Wars" franchise is in crisis mode and if Kathleen Kennedy should removed as the head of Lucasfilm, who the hell thinks a Morbius movie is a good idea and can Sony's "Spider-Verse" be saved at this point, and is DC's streaming service gonna be another letdown, and can these old men deal with today's comic book stores? And, of course, since this is a full blown Couch Party reunion, the show just wouldn't be complete without a look into America's own Thunderdome, as the guys go over bizarre headlines from HAB's adopted homeland of Florida! He's here to help the guys interview their guest, comic book writer Zack Kaplan! Be sure to listen to Dexter every week on his podcast, and pick up your copy of Eclipse at either your local comic book store, Amazon, directly from Top Cow Comics or wherever finer books are sold! Returning to the show is Jake & Tom's good friend, Roejen Razorwire! Not only is Roe a fellow podcaster & Couch Party alumnus, but he is also a massive Start Wars fan. So it goes without saying that the guys would have him on to talk about the release of Disney's first Star Wars Anthology film, Rogue One! Two of the guys loved it, one of them merely liked it, but they can all agree that they're excited for the future of the franchise. Afterwards, they discuss the release of a teaser trailer to the long gestating sequel to the film classic, Blade Runner, and whether or not a sequel is even needed for that story. Thank you once again to Roejen for stepping in for the show. If you like what you hear from him here, be sure to check out his main show, Project Archivist.
