Born in 1985 in East Chicago, Indiana, Peggy Hooper is a versatile artist whose creativity knows no bounds. Known in the art world by her moniker, Gigi Hooper, she's a child of the 90s, drawing early inspiration from iconic pop culture. Simultaneously, Gigi was deeply influenced by the enchanting worlds of books in young adult, children's books, and comic books which have fostered a love for sweet, fantastical, and mind-bending literature. While her path took her through diverse careers as a United States Marine and a personal trainer, Gigi eventually returned to her true calling. She completed her degree in Illustration from George Fox University and graduated with a B.A. in the field. Currently residing in Newberg, Oregon, with her husband, Gigi specializes in digital art, collage, and pencil work, although her artistic palette embraces various mediums. On the east end of downtown Indianapolis, there was a community (or "barrio") of Mexican families during the 1940s and '50s. During the 1960s and '70s, camps in the farm fields of Grant County and Howard County were set up for migrant workers, most of them of Mexican or other Latino heritage. So there were urban as well as rural residents of Latino heritage in the Hoosier state during the mid and late 1900s. In our rotating series about ethnic heritage in Indiana that has focused on heritage groups ranging from Germans and Irish to Ukrainians and Koreans, Hoosier History Live will follow up a show in 2018 about the Mexican communities in northwest Indiana during the 1920s. The guests on that show included Nicole Martinez-LeGrand of the Indiana Historical Society, who will return to share insights about the subsequent evolution of Latinos during the mid and late 1900s. Nicole is the co-author of "Hoosier Latinos: A Century of Struggle, Service and Success" (Indiana Historical Society Press); her ancestors came from Mexico to the Indiana Harbor area of Lake County as early as 1918. Steel companies in northwest Indiana recruited Mexican immigrants as workers, with a barrio established in the Indiana Harbor area of East Chicago.

Show notes are available at QueenofPeaches.com. Today on I'll Follow You, I'm in conversation with two of the most influential people in my musical life, Ed Bialon and Don Graves. Ed and Don were members of my dad's band, the Terry Felus Trio, for about ten years, from the early 1970s through the early 1980s. The Terry Felus Trio was known and loved around Northwest Indiana as a great party band, getting hired to play for wedding receptions, milestone anniversary celebrations, and New Year's Eve shows, though they were also frequently booked at local venues like Mama Puntillo's in Highland, Indiana, and Sarti's Restaurant and Lounge in East Chicago. I wanted to sit down with them and get the scoop on how exactly they did what they did. I wanted to dig into the history of how they all knew each other, where and how they all trained as musicians, and get a glimpse into this now mostly bygone era of live bands who didn't try to sound like anyone but themselves.

May 15, 1981. East Chicago, Indiana. Jay Given, a 51-year old attorney and political operative, attends a political fundraiser at the local Elks Club, but is fatally shot through the back of the head while exiting through the building's front doors. While a shell casing and a slug are collected from the crime scene and placed in an evidence drawer at the police station, it is later discovered that the items have been tampered with. The investigation turns towards the town's deputy police chief, John Cardona, who attended the fundraiser, owned a similar firearm to the murder weapon, and had a motive to kill Jay. While a grand jury investigation takes place, the authorities ultimately believe that the evidence against Cardona is not strong enough to file charges. Was John Cardona actually responsible for the murder of Jay Given? Was a cover-up orchestrated to ensure the perpetrator would never be prosecuted? On this week's episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we explore an unsolved case from a town where corruption and political maneuvering were rampant. If you have any information about this case, please contact the East Chicago Police Department at (219) 391-8400. The Fox and the Bantam Hen by Delos Dale FidlerMany of the events described in this book (except for the murder and subsequent investigation) have their parallels in this life. The writing of this book is something of a catharsis in dealing with this pain. This is a fictional account of dishonesty, malfeasance of duty by trusted public officials, hardships placed on honest people by dishonest officials and subsequent consequences suffered not by those officials but by the people they serve. Although this is a fictional account, the reader will recognize the traits illustrated in this story by officials foreign and domestic. This is not a book to give legal advice, accounting procedures, business decisions nor how to run a hotel. The opinions expressed in this work of fiction are solely those of the characters expressing them.Mr. Fidler was born in the quiet farming community of Rensselaer, Indiana, Jasper County, 70 miles south, southeast of Chicago, IL on August 8, 1938. He was raised in the bustling metropolis (of the time) of the steel mills and oil refineries of Gary, Hammond, and East Chicago, Indiana. Mr. Fidler graduated from Hammond Technical Vocational High School, proceeding on and graduating from Purdue University. This is the education that qualified him for a 51 plus year career as an outstanding engineer. Why this story of the (Grey Foxes) (The Fox and the Bantam Hen)? Mr. and Mrs. Fidler are the parents of a very successful daughter in a career of sales where men dominate. We also had a mentally ill son of whom we are very proud. He was very much like Jason in the story. He championed other mentally ill patients in support groups.https://www.amazon.com/Fox-Bantam-Delos-Dale-Fidler/dp/166554340X/ref=sr_1_40?Adv-Srch-Books-Submit.x=0&Adv-Srch-Books-Submit.y=0&field-dateop=During&field-dateyear=2021&qid=1654715576&refinements=p_30:authorhouse&s=books&sr=1-40&unfiltered=1www.dfidlerbooks.comhttps://www.urlinkpublishing.com/serviceshttp://www.bluefunkbroadcasting.com/root/twia/42023furl.mp3
